With a good bit of time between the (infamous) Black Tie event and now (as well as the recovery time from the concussion), Lia had done her thinking. Her dynamic with the man had definitely shifted because of that night, and when it all boiled down to it, she didn't think it was a bad thing. While she could still put a distinct difference between this life and the one implanted in her head, she could also start to see where it was bleeding over into this one as well...and, well, she'd ride it out. She didn't overthink it, or worry about it, or get too ahead of herself.

One of the refreshing things about being friends (most definitely friends at this point, at the least) with Dimitri was that he was brutally honest, and if at any point this shift in their dynamic bothered him, he'd let her know.

So, in light of accepting the shift, Lia thought it'd be fun to surprise him at work today. That's when the amazon came strolling into the dentist's clinic, arms full with some bags that clearly contained fried food and a tray of milkshakes. The woman had some aviator shades on, and didn't bother taking them off (no hands free anyways) as she approached the receptionist desk, grinning widely at the people there.

"Yo, ladies!" She greeted. "Would one of you be a dear and please grab Dr. Avruch---" Here she couldn't help the way her voice hitched in amusement. Dr. Avruch. "For me? It's lunch time!"

The women at the desk immediately stopped whatever they were chattering about to gawk openly up at the spiky haired woman who’d suddenly come striding in. Their jaws had literally dropped.

To be fair, they gossiped about the doctor a lot - and no one had ever come striding in for lunch in the entire length of time they’d worked there. Also she was big. HUGE. AMAZON.

Admittedly, Dimitri had never been especially good at friends. Technically speaking he had them, or the facade of them - he went out drinking with a people who shared some common element with him, for example. But they were boring. Dull. Sometimes they outright disgusted him with their utter mediocrity.

Before he’d learned his limits, when he’d been very young, he’d shoved one of his friends into a pool. Bitten another. What he wouldn’t give to live in a world where he could do that again with no consequence. Bless the clown.

In all reality, yes - this was probably the first time in Dimitri’s life he had legitimately had a friend. More than one, even. It had been somewhat forced upon him, but the intial shock aside, while he didn’t entirely know how to act at times - as the knifethrower or as the clown - at least it was Mason and Lia.

Also admittedly, this was especially true for Lia.

Which was why when he happened to stride up front to pass a file along to one of his office ladies and saw her standing there, he was surprised - but behind his surgical mask, still in place from a filling he’d just wrapped up, the typical flat stare of Dimitri’s eyes gave way to a hint of surprise. “Lia.” There was a crinkle at the edges of his eyes that betrayed a smile. It was not forced. “What’s going on?”

In response to the man just suddenly appearing, Lia's grin turned face splitting. "Cancel that, ladies." She said to them cheerfully. "Found my query!"

She came closer to the desk, leaning over it a bit to shake a bag of food that had some grease stains. "Yo, Di!" Since the doctor was here in person, she could discard that Dr. title---so funny. "I know you're about to hit lunch---" She'd asked about his work day schedule once, during their patrols. "So I figured I'd join you! Just in case the treat of my company wasn't good enough---I got double bacon cheeseburgers, too." She winked. There was no question of if he wanted to. It simply was.

Also, she just couldn't get over seeing him like that. Scrubs. Mask. Hair down---it was novel and it was weird. She found it fascinating when she had come in to get her cleaning, and she still found it just as fascinating now. Different.

The ladies were ******** shaken, nudging each other and exchanging almost frantic gestures and glances - and frankly it was ******** hilarious. It took everything Dimitri had to maintain his composure.

"Oh, right; I did tell you my schedule, didn't I?" he remarked casually, tugging down his mask and tapping thoughtfully at his chin, deliberately playing this in the most neutral way he could. "Thanks. Girls, let her back - come on, Lia, follow me, " and he turned his back deliberately, walking back towards small break room they had.

The ladies kind of tried to smile, but really you could tell they were dying to ask a million questions and maybe shout a little - one of them was definitely very red in the face - and just pushed a button to unlock the door and permit Lia entry. Neither of them had been there the last time she'd come in.

"Much obliged!" Lia thanks the ladies and nodded her head, still just grinning ear to ear. She pushed the door open using her back, turning on her heel once it was open to follow after the man. Longer legs closed the distance between them down the hall, though she stayed behind him to follow, just in case someone else popped up in the hall as well. Once she thought she was far enough out of ear shot, Lia let out a booming peal of laughter. It probably echoed down the hall but---oh well.

"Preeetty sure I just gave the receptionists something new to buzz about---sorry but not really." She said with another laugh to Dimitri's back.

Alone, somewhat, with Lia’s laughter booming around him, infectious, Dimitri bought a hand to his mouth to try and stifle it - but his shoulders were shaking, and even if he was trying hard to keep it quiet, an undeniable flash of the clown slipped out as he cackled lowly, trailing a little so Lia could catch up. “Their faces, “ was about as far as he could get out, straining to reign himself back in before he lost it completely. That would be bad. “You practically murdered them! Hah!”

“Ah, “ he finally cooled down enough to start, pushing the door open and holding it for her. “So you got me lunch today - how much?” because of course he was going to try and pay her back; money was more important to her than it had ever been to him.

Seeing his shoulders shake was reward enough for the woman, even if it wasn't the outright peal of laughter he usually did out on patrol. "Man, if they're wondering about me, I'm wondering about what you do to them to warrant such a reaction." Lia teased. "Hey, thanks!" She moved into the room when he opened the door, and the woman dropped the bags and the tray of milkshakes onto the end of the table.

Lia turned back to him as she pulled out a chair, and shook her head, hair flying this way and that. "Nadda." She grinned. "It's my treat. I was bummed when we went to get burgers and shakes after leaving the ER and I wasn't hungry---so I'm making up for it now." The woman let her tall frame flop into the chair, and reached across the table surface to pat the spot across from her.

"How's your day been, Di?"

While waiting for a reply, she fished out the food, napkins, and straws.

Dimitri shot her a sideways glance. “I’m professional. I don’t have many visitors here, and basically that’s the closest thing to a glance into my personal affairs than they’ve had for years.” He gave a roll of his eyes and sighed like he’d been asked to deal with something arduous as he admitted, “The blond one, Judy, she’s been trying to get friendly for the past several months. - that annoying, giggly friendly, you know. Unprofessional.” He allowed the door to shut and shrugged it off. If the clown had five minutes with her...

It was easy and comfortable to sit across from her. “So essentially I am reaping the benefits of your missed craving - I can’t say I’m complaining.” He hadn’t really realized how hungry he was until now, honestly. It was very like him, though. He took good care of himself, but he tended to lose track of time when he was working. Dimitri grabbed for a burger the first chance he got, thanking her again before he started in on it.

“Three root canals. One implant. Too many cavities. One kid bit me.” After pausing for another bite, he added, “I feel like in those cases it should be socially acceptable to bite back. Don’t you agree?”

Lia had inhaled a few fries, which she immediately choked on as Dimitri shot her that glance and that sass. Lia choked, and it immediately shifted into coughing laughter as she thumped her chest a few times before swallowing the fries. "Woah." She cackled. "That sass, Dimitri. Are you saying I'm unprofessional?" Lia teased, and the fact she was so amused was the clearest indicator that she was not at all offended. "Ha! You poor thing." She grinned. "Dealing with people and their feelings."

She plucked at some more fries, munching on them for a moment before replying, "Reaping the benefits of my missed craving and friendship." Her eyes creased at the corners. "I mean, if it was just my missed craving I'd be eating these five cartons of fries, three double bacon cheeseburgers and two milkshakes all by myself, duh."

Lia whistled. "Man, that sounds like a busy morning and yeah you should have bitten back!" The woman agreed. "It's the golden rule! Treat others the way you wanna be treated---and that would have definitely taught a lesson." She shook her head a bit. "My parents were all about that---do something stupid and rude and my siblings and I got something stupid and rude done to us in return. We learned fast."

There was a ghost of a smile on Dimitri's face. "Different work environment, " he clarified with a low, resounding chuckle, tapping her lightly on the arm with his knuckles before he took his seat. "You say that like it's funny, but indeed, poor me. You don't know how tedious it gets." Then again, his mind didn't quite work like most people's, a fact he was well aware of. "Maybe I should have been a coroner, " he remarked idly, sighing and wrinkling his nose. "No, then you've got to deal with families and a lower wage."

Dimitri paused, then gave a low laugh, reaching out and deliberately plucking a fry from Lia's hand. "Right - friends, " he repeated, tilting it at her before popping it into his mouth.

After listening to her whole talk about the 'golden rule', it kind of occurred to him that Lia asked him a lot, as a friend - and as a friend, he honestly - hadn't asked as many things, had he? He knew where she worked, what she did, and he knew all about her family life in the circus, but here - "You have siblings?" It seemed like as good a place as any to start. "How many?"

It was probably stupid, but him reciprocating small affectionate gestures thrilled her. She was a physically affectionate person by nature, and up until the Black Tie event, she hadn't done much out of respect for the fact that the man clearly wasn't the kind who cared about it. Not until now, anyways.

"I mean, it is funny and it sucks, yeah." She smiled. "It's funny because I'm sure she's not the first one to get annoyingly friendly with you, and she won't be the last." Lia grinned a bit. "I mean, you look like a doctor from Grey's Anatomy---albeit looking bored most of the time, but still---ha! If you wanted to cut out people, maybe you should have been an accountant or a taxidermist."

Lia have a mock gasp as he plucked a fry from her. "Woah now, you're toeing the line here---I take fries very seriously---that's why there's three cartons for me and two for you." She went back to grinning though, stuffing more fries into her mouth and nodding. "Mhm!" She hummed with her mouth full. "Two brothers. Both older! The middle one is about your age, actually, and the eldest is a few years older than that."

The look on Dimitri's face literally said in ways words couldn't how right she was. Even worse because speaking in basic societal standards, there was no way to easily tell them to go ******** off and die rather than drag him into their mundane mockery of a life. "I never watched Grey's Anatomy, " he quipped back shortly, unsure if that was supposed to be praise or not. "That's a TV show, right? - I'm not much for TV."

He might have snorted a little of his milkshake when she threw 'accountant' out there though.

"You should know by now how I feel about the line, " was his simple retort as he made a grab for another one, chuckling to himself. Two brothers. It didn't line up with the circus, clearly, but in real world terms, it seemed fitting. "What are they like?" He could imagine two male Lias, sounding about the same but a few octaves lower. Must be an interesting family. He half-wondered if it was possible that Lia saw her brother in him, if that's why she'd taken to him like she had. They'd been close enough to be siblings in the circus - something like that, anyway.

"Yeah, it is and oh, you're not missing much." Lia laughed, both at the expression on his face and about Grey's Anatomy. "Just bunch of doctors who are too hot to be doctors dealing with their interpersonal and work drama on top of banging each other in supply closets. Actually, to use what you said earlier, it's very unprofessional." Her grin was wide as she finished off her three cartons of fries.

"Yeah, yeah, I do." She replied, and reached for one of the burgers and unwrapped it. "Short!" Lia suddenly exclaimed, looking more than pleased as punch she could say it. "They're shorter than me." Her grin was nothing short face splitting, as it was clear this was a source of contention she was proud of that ran in the family. "They're good guys tho---don't tell them I said that. The oldest is a financial manager---boring--- and the middle is an electrician. Have you ever heard about the psychology of birth order before? They pretty much fall into that---in a good way."

The woman chewed on her burger for a moment, and would have turned the family questioning back on who she was conversing with, except, well...he usually never seemed quite thrilled to talk about them.

“Oh, so you’re saying I’m hot, “ Dimitri responded shortly in a complete deadpan, although there was a dark humor in his eyes when he said it - if he’d been the clown, he would’ve been howling.

His composure didn’t totally cover him, though, when she shouted SHORT, and he tucked his index finger against his lips as he leaned against the table, clearing his throat to subdue what really wanted to be much louder laughter. “Got it, so if I ever did encounter them, promptly tell them they’re short and their sister thinks the world of them.” He took a long sip of his drink. “I have, actually - you make sense.”

He bit his straw and grinned before leaning back. “I suppose I do too - only child, “ he clarified, gesturing to himself.

Lia just grinned widely as he dead panned at her, not one bit shy about admitting it. "You're so hot Di, you confuse mood rings." And really he did just be having that placid expression more often than not but violent thoughts underneath.

She was utterly delighted though to see him fight to laugh, and Lia couldn't help but lean in as well. She leaned over the table, resting her weight on one arm as she looked at the man, her voice dropping low. "What's the matter, Avruch?" She started. "Afraid to let those gaggle of geese hear you laugh? You should be---they'd be on you like white on rice."

Lia rested her head on her hand and took a bite of her bacon cheeseburger, staying stretched out across the table for now. "Nah man, you can't give away my secrets like that." She teased, and then nodded. "Do you wish you had a sibling?" She asked, noting that him being an only child did make some sense. "...Though I guess it's hard to want what you don't know, eh?"
