Abrasive: Predominantly she is only a collosal pest to her brother but beware the soul who pisses her off. Ruulu has a long memory a hunter's patience and a somewhat devious mind when it comes down to it. She will be right up in your face or invisible with a blow dart but whatever it is you will not like it.
Leadership: Ruulu is a leader, she looks after those under her care, be they earthling, alk or animal. She believes in a close kinship form of group where bonds are formed tight and secure. She can be brutal when it comes to breaking the few rules she enforces.
Vision: Ruulu has a vision for her future and the future of those around her. A kinfa mounted war unit that coasts along the skies and rains misery down on the enemies of the person with the fattest purse or the best morals. Its dealers pick which one she will choose.
History: Ruulu was born to Iroia and Votzhem after Vosh's return to civilization and what seemed like life. She has a special bond with her father who looks a lot like her besides his big fluffy beard. Ruulu and her eldest brother Arron however are like oil and water with a lit match nearby. She has had an unexplanable jealousy of the older male from the moment she was born. Someday she will be able to explain it perhaps and hopefully work it out.
Ruulu got a kinfa at a young age and began forming a group who also had these valuable birds in the hopes of one day building a versatile, extremely mobile war unit. Her group spends a lot of time together.
Sometimes when he needs her she even helps out the brother that annoys her the most. A job is a job and hes not really that bad. She does resent his greater authority however when its an Arron run operation.
Ruulu fiddled with the cord holding the food pen for the animals closed. She made sure it was tight. The day had been long and she was doing her nightly checks finding that organized responsibility somewhat suited her. Much progress had been made in the past two weeks and the camp had fallen into a familiar routine. The ebb and flow not unlike the ocean which slept a half day away from their camp. The youngling however had been a surprise and a boon. She came every day to help everyone out with little chores so they could focus on having lives and working on behavioural problems with the snaptrotters. The girls father trailed along and his surprising strength and cheerful attitude was great for overall group moral.
There was little time for anything in camp besides care of the trotters. It would be a great relief when one or two were sold. They had one of the juveniles almost ready. Seze would do a personality test in the morning to assess the beast and then if all went well they would take it to the market as a fully trained mount. They had each taken a turn riding it and were all pleased with its gentle nature. He was dark blue in color a medium size and a pleasure to work with. Arron and Seze had outdone themselves.
His sale would fill the coffers and decrease the workload in camp. In order for things to calm down properly she felt that they needed to reduce the heard by at least three. Plus the triad needed time to train their kinfa's as well. It was so important not to forget them. The whole point of their hard work here was to support the kinfa program so that when the 'trotters were gone they would be able to devote themselves to their familiars with financial stability.

The heart feels what the heart feels. Ruulu had to admit to herself that she had gained feelings for Tsallin over time. He had been her best friend from the start, her champion. He always supported her dreams and had wormed his way into her heart. He was her shadow and she was unsure what to do next. She was unsure if he felt the same way. How could one tell? He had been working so hard with the snaptrotters of late that she had started to miss his companionship.
She began seeking him out to talk. Feeling that he left a gap in her life when he wasn't around. She was drawn to him, knew him well enough that she could tell where he was usually or could guess. No so with Rydan or any of the others in the group. Just Tsallin, and he was usually where she thought he would be too. It came in handy when she needed his help or attention. But if she was being true to herself she needed so much more from him.
If he left she was unsure how to continue with her life goals. She needed him at her side, supporting her as she supported him. It was hard for a girl like her to admit that she needed anyone. She was at her heart a strange mix of pack mammal and independant spirit.
She took a deep breath and curved her fingers gently through Salikis's feathers. It was so calming to her. But Salukis would not have answers to her current problem...what to do about her man crush? Should she tell him? Kiss him? Oh how had Mom and Dad gone about this..Votz was so glacial that Iroia had to stir the pot herself and tell him she was interested..would that be what happened with them? She knew that Tsalllin liked to be around her, knew that he was loyal to her to the core. But it was just so hard dealing with these feelings..normally she would go to a sister for help but her own sister was well Volka...more like a frozen version of Dad. No help there. Well she would just see what happened.

Ruulu Class Choice
Ruulu had some major thinking to do. The kinfa training was going well. They had sold off a few of the snaptrotters, now they just had four left, including angel and that black and red Monster they started to call Demon. She shook her head, go figure to have one of each in the group. Soon though they could focus on their birds and not naughty snaptrotters. It would be such a relief to her and to her crew. Soon though their kinfa would be growing just as they were and then they could start flying lessons.
She breathed in the new morning air and sighed in contentment. Her life was going exactly as she wanted it to. She could hear the Kinfa call in their morning chorus. It was the most beautiful sound and through it filtered the calls of the other birds of the forest. She could listen to that for forever but unfortunately her stomach had other ideas. It was breakfast time.
If there was one thing she had learned from the whole snaptrotter endeavor it was that she had been right to go as a rider class and not a beast charmer. It just felt better to devote a large amount of time to one or two animals as opposed to training new ones every month. What Sezarra did was exhausting and it took a lot of strength. She would definitely respect Beast Charmers more if she met them in her travels. She went outside and fed the kinfa around. All three of them were peering curiously at the sleeping area for the people wondering which of their people would emerge first.
It had been her, the boys were still abed, exhausted and sore from riding that black devil. Angel was much more fun to work with. Even more fun then both the scary looking snaptrotters was her personal angel Salukis. She was unsure what she would do without the plucky bird who had twice as much personality as some of the people she had met. She was so grateful for the bird. Her partner in crime, her shadow, her savior.
Soon she would have to design an exercise for the band to go through so that they could earn their spears. It was only fitting that she be the first to go through the test but what should it entail?
She thought that perhaps it should be a personal quest probably held in Tale if at all possible to honor the kinfa themselves. Maybe they would have to face an adult together with their kinfa and prove to the world that they deserved each other. Mayhap it would be that they had to touch or steal an egg. Maybe something else she was not sure. But it should be very ceremonial and a bit spiritual. Hmmm. She was formulating a plan but it would take a little more time to think through then she would have to pitch it to her crew.
After the kinfa were fed she went out to tend to the snaptrotters too, once they were fed the rest of the people had gotten out of bed, she could see Arron in the distance caring for the janarim. The morning chores were progressing well. When she and her brother arrived back in camp she ate the breakfast the rest of the crew had provided then took her kinfa off into the bush to discuss future plans..with herself.
They should get a token as a flyer, earned when they earned their spear, a reminder to stick to their totem as they moved with their kinfa though life, what their totem was would be decided by the most senior member of the group. As Ruulu was the oldest she would ask Sezarra to choose a totem for her and commission her brother to carve it, he was better with wood than she was. Yes that would work. What else now? A journey that started with meditation and took them to the fields of Tale to have some sort of encounter with an adult kinfa. She decided that they wouldn't need to take eggs unless there was a prospective new member that needed it, and once that egg was taken for that member it would be the duty of the older rider to keep an eye on the younger one until they too went through the initiation. Yes this seemed right to her.
After the initiation that member would be considered a full adult ready to take up duties in battle along with finding new members and sitting in on meetings. She sighed contentedly. She was building herself her own world and it was terribly satisfying. In order for all of this to start, Salukis must be in the best health possible. Ruulu plucked a rogue feather or two to her birds complaints. One feather she selected because of its perfection, she would add this to her outfit when she finished the task she was engineering for herself.
It would symbolize along with a tattoo and her totem the bond she shared with her kinfa and the goals that they wished to work towards in their long partnership together. Salukis was in top shape and after this next molt would again be able to fly. It was then that Ruulu would head for Tale with her bird. For now she had to get a hold of Seze and get Arron to start on the totem that Sezarra selected for her. It was all so very exciting but now she had everything sort of hashed out she felt confident enough to pitch it to the group!

Class Quest
It was time, Salukis's new feathers were fully fledged and it was time for the initiation. One shouldn't be nervous for an initiation that one created but she just couldn't help it. What if she failed her own test? What if she got a shitty totem animal and had to incorporate some goofy thing into her life? Deep breaths Ruu, deep breaths. She calmed herself down then dropped into the meditative state that she had prescribed..she now saw for good reason. Once calm and centered, she rose from the floor and went to the rest of them. They put some war paint on her face, Salukis had already been fed, and they had prepared a bag for her, now she was ready to set out to Tale.
The four people who meant so much to her waved her and her kinfa off. She munched on the breakfast provided to her; bread and cheese, perfect for travel. Salukis flew easily beside her, she was getting so big, Ruulu was very proud. She was now the same size as Ruulu herself, growing fast and fierce just like her hybrid mama. She was Ruu's pride and joy.
She felt important, she was leader of her group..when Seze and Arron were not around anyway but that was besides the point. She had been training, bringing her body up to strength. She was getting curvier than her mother but really that was not all that hard considering how fine boned Iroia was. She was developing into a find young lady if she did say so herself and she sort of wished she could crash some fancy nobles party and show them herself but alas the royal life was more to be jealous over because of all the fine dresses but to her understanding they had no freedom there. So she was much better off here.
She sent off a prayer to Aisha in case she was watching. She didn't have much Alkidike in her but she believed that Aisha cared for all her children, grandchildren or not. She shook her head and focused on the travel, the feel of the ground disappearing beneath her feet.
It took a day or three but she finally stepped into the Tale, the wind catching her right away as it blustered across the great plains, she wondered why they called the people from here the leaf..besides perhaps all the leaves, but they didn't mention the wind. Sauti must be much worse for them to be called the wind people.
"So this is Tale Salukis, this is where my Mother came from, where your Mother came from, I guess we have that in common. I just hope we don't find your actual mother out here. Maybe an old crotchety bird that is tired and sleepy..we could pet it and leave. Not the most spectacular encounter perhaps but well we are not supposed to travel around with the dretch on the hunt for likely targets right?"
Salukis looked at her with what she construed as bird sarcasm. "I'm not scared for me! I'm scared for you! An adult kinfa could pluck you like bird dinner and you know it. You think your so brave now, HAH wait until you see an adult."
Salukis perched and ruffled her feathers at her mistress. "Don't you ruffle your feathers at me you little turd, your not that much bigger than me yet and I still control the yellow beetle supply. That's right I packed some for your ungrateful butt and this is how you treat me?" She huffed.
They both froze as they thought they heard something. "I hate that hunted feeling," she whispered. She crouched and Salukis stayed perched not wanting to draw attention to themselves. If they met something out here she wanted to do it on their own terms not end up in somethings stomach a pile of antennae and attractive feathers.
When the noise did not come again she sighed deeply. It was then that great wings unfolded. Its back was to them. "Well my dear, its now or never, if she stayed on the ground the bird would likely kill her, if she did what she was thinking about doing who knew what would happen.
She leaped onto the bird and wrapped her arms around its neck. The wild kinfa screamed and rose into the air, thoroughly startled. They had probably just woken it up from a nap. It was drowsy but adrenaline was quickly flooding its system. She didn't want it to get too far off from the ground or she would not be able to jump so she swung forward around its neck, praying to Aisha and any other of the gods that would listen to her at the moment. The kinfa's beak stabbed her in the shoulder and she fell to the ground. But she had flown..for a few seconds. So that was cool. But the bird would likely come and try to kick her a** then perhaps eat it.
Salukis flew at the kinfa's head, keeping it busy while her mistress found a convinient rock to hide under. "Fly Salukis, get away!" She shreiked, before crawling in the opposite direction from where she had made a noise. A good thing too because kinfa talons had just landed where she had been and grabbed nothing. There were perks to all of this ratty grass after all. She crawled under the rock ledge on her stomach and tried to slow her ragged breathing. She could hear the frustrated calls of the kinfa above and silence from her own she took it that things were going well.
Eventually big wing falls began and faded into the distance. She waited for a long time before crawling out from under her rock...she would pay for hiding under a rock later...and there were ants down there to boot and they bit hard.
She looked around desperately for Salukis, she hoped the kinfa wouldn't have gone far but her heart was still in her throat. She dare not call out yet. Just in case the big kinfa was going to come back and finish her off. Salukis would have to find her or she would start calling in the afternoon when the kinfa was likely gone.
A short while later she peeked out of the grass at a pond, she needed water, and it was very exposed out there. She was leery about going out there but she needed to. She had a death grip on her canteen. She stepped out and nothing happened, she took a few more steps, and nothing happened.
Swallowing dryly she walked to the pool checked for any underwater threats, she was unsure if there were any in Tale but was unwilling to take the chance of a wandering snaptrotter who had escaped from a caravan or what not.
She filled her canteen and shrieked when feathers brushed against her. But when she turned it was only Salukis.
They headed home sore and raw from the dangerous experience but satisfied that they had come to do what was expected and had succeeded.
When she returned home there was a feast, and Seze presented her with a carved Xaraan as her totem. She was told it was for her dangerous nature.
Xaraan were quick and smart and deadly, masters of the desert sand. She was to keep these traits in mind as she lead her group, and of course be true to her kinfa, never let that bond wither or fray as it had saved her life once it could do it again. It would take much trust to fly together. But Ruulu felt like now she was ready to try, practice and learn to do it properly.
She sat very still for her kinfa tattoo even though it hurt worse than anything else...well except for those ant bites.
This class quest serves to outline the bond forming between Ruulu and her kinfa Salukis, as Salukis grows, Ruulu continues to make her a focal point of her life along with her life goals of having a small flying legion at her command. In order to create her world she requires prospective riders to go through an initiation, and it wouldn't be fair to ask others to do something she wouldn't do. Using herself as a guinea pig Ruulu sets up and executes her plan to have a individualized coming of age ceremony focused on the kinfa which is the point of their organization. She accomplishes her feat of daring with newfound respect for the partner she will one day ride.
