Nin Post 1 Nin was out adventuring her father as usual slinking along behind her but giving her her space. He was such a good dad, and she enjoyed spending time with him and enjoying her new freedom. She would never get to explore properly at the orphanage, they barely let the kids get near the beach and never in the forest. The dense tropical rainforest was amazing, besides the bugs.
A strange noise attracted her and she wandered to a clearing where many earthlings looked to be training snaptrotters. There were seven trotters and five people out there. How curious! Could she volunteer?
She wandered over to a girl training a white snaptrotter. "What are you doing?"

Ruulu looked up from trying to tempt the white snaptrotter she had affectionately named Angel to the young waterling that just appeared right out of the jungle. "I am teaching him to eat from the hand instead of from a bucket but it requires a lot of trust and there is just so much going on in this clearing that he can't concentrate at all on the task at hand. She winced comically at the girl and waved the ferret in front of the snaptrotter which watched her, his head moving with the meat but made no move to catch it when she threw it.
"See. It will take time."

She did see. "Hmmm, maybe wait a while too, if hes not eating yet he might just not be that hungry, or you could try to make the creature look alive.. look at the pond over there if you tie the ferret with a string, pull it across take the rope off wiggle it around and then throw it, he might eat it."
She wandered to the pool and poked it with a stick to make sure there wasn't anything else already in there, unlikely with all the scary snaptrotters just standing around.

Ruulu tilted her head and decided to humor the young one, after all she had grown up in the same places snaptrotters had, no doubt she spent time watching them. It was true that predators liked to eat living things, herbivores being a bit more boring in their forage.
She tied the ferret to a rope and dragged the reluctant snaptrotter over, it did move better once it realized they were going towaryd the water. It settled into the water as she pulled the ferret across. She heard the beast sigh in joy and guessed that it had been too warm to eat. She wiggled the now soggy ferret and tossed it at the nearly submerged head.
The jaws snapped in a most satifying way and the ferret disappeared by magic.

Nin felt so good that she had helped the strange looking girl. "Um do you mid if I ask what you are, I can see alkidike in there but I don't know about the rest of it. I'm a pure waterling but my adoptive father is a shifter." She detailed her lineage in the hope that explaining her own family would help her learn more about this strange woman. In the distance she could see another shifter but the rest of the people were a little confusing, one looked like a leafling but had awfully red hair. He could have dyed it.
"He looks much happier in there, how close is he to being trained?" She asked curiously. Maybe she could help them for a while?

She quirked a brow at the youngling. Something had told her that this one would not be as shy as she would have thought at first, she saw some of herself in her. "My father is an alkidike iceling and my mother is a leafling. Both great warriors. That strange looking man over there is my brother Arron. Tsallin is a leaf and fire hybrid, where Rydan the silver haired over there is and ice alk shifter." Seze was self explanatory because she had nothing else but shifter in her.
Ruulu had no doubt the girls father was invisible in the trees watching the goings on in the snaptrotter camp. She wondered what he thought about the gathering.

"That is so cool! I kind of wish I had some hybrid blood, but alas I am just me and being me is pretty fun anyway." She fiddled with a chunk of her hair, it was greenish in color and she loved it dearly. "My name is Ninaeleth, what is yours?"
She looked at the submerged snaptrotter again as it moaning happily. "He really likes that water apparently. I usually see them in the wild not captivity. How long does it take to train one?"
Maybe her dad would let her get one one day.

"My name is Ruulu, and our head beast charmer says that it varies by creature sometimes as little as three months sometime a year depending on the animal. We saved this bunch from mean merchants who were not taking proper care of them. Some of them are partially trained but that red and black one over there is not trained at all and is still quite wild. We are not sure if we are going to just release his cranky butt or keep him on, if we do keep him like we keep the others for resale to fund our rescue missions it will take an awfully long time to train him."
She shrugged unsure of what they would do in the near future with their giant group of trotters. Some were coming along nicely though.

"A merchant train? Where?" This was just fascinating. She wondered what her Daddy would think when she told him. Maybe he could go beat up his own merchant train or only support the good ones. She nearly vibrated with excitement. "You guys are so awesome!"
"May I help feed him?" She eyed the ferret supply doubtfully but she did so ever want to help.
Maybe that could be her job. "Do you folks need a volunteer to help look after them I could shovel poop and help feed them. Make sure they have water as long as you guys are around."

"I don't see why you can't help with that, as long as I or Sezarra are around, bring your father around too if you like." She wouldn't have this little girl in the hands of any of the boys, boys were so forgetful. Nope not on her watch!
"They eat all kinds of small to medium animals, and we could butcher a big one. Its taking all our time to look after them and our three kinfa...do you like kinfa we could set you up to babysit some of them too. They are kind of ticked with us for devoting most of our attention to the trotters.

"I'll ask Dad then, hold on." She scurried into the trees and asked her father, after getting his permission she returned to Ruulu. "He said I am to be very careful and ALWAYS come here with him. But I may help and feed yes. He also says that if I do a really good job he might be interested in buying one of them if they are very well trained." She grinned brightly as Ruulu smiled at her evident delight in both of their faces.
She took the proffered ferret and wiggled it in front of the snaptrotter before tossing it at him. It landed in the water by his head and he snapped it up with a self satisfied purr.
"I do like kinfa...I think I've never been close to one before."

"Well then today is your lucky day, I will call one over for you. She will be grateful for the attention anyway." Ruulu whistled shrilly into the sun soaked air and a blue swirled young kinfa rose from a great tree nearby to come and land on Ruulu's shoulder.
"This is my kinfa Salukis, she will be my mount one day but we have some growing to do before then of course." She stroked the soft feathers, reveling in her birds beauty. They had one up on the Scorra's that was for sure. Graceful in flight and darn cute as babies.
"She likes those yellow beetles that no one ever eats for some reason. They must be able to deal with that kind of poison. As she had never had a problem with them and will hunt them for HOURS. I don't know where she gets her patience from."

Nin gasped at the gorgeous creature. "I've never seen anything so beautiful in my life!" She exclaimed, and then giggled as the bird very obviously preened. "Yellow beetles huh? If I see any on the way back I'll be sure to collect some for her."
She was so glad she had heard those noises in the bush today had been the most exciting day since the day she was adopted.
The white snaptrotter came out of the water to nuzzle Ruulu looking for more ferret. And attention he liked attention too.

"Evidentally someone just needed to cool down to come around, I will have to tell the others ...eventually. Before that I'll give you a bit of a tour." She started to walk and her kinfa took off to fly alongside them. She noticed that Nin spent half the time watching her fly. The white snaptrotter followed after them idly. He wasn't going anywhere but maybe he would get a ferret out of the trek.
Ruulu thought Angel was being awfully cute now. Either the little girl had a special touch with snaptrotters OR he had finally started to come around to her. She knew which one she hoped it was. Angel would bring a lot of money when he was sold to a good family. But she would miss him. She knew there was a chance that she would get attatched to the animals she looked after. But a snaptrotter wasn't all that condusive to her life.

Ruulu showed her the area where they kept the food stored for the snaptrotters, the cage was moderately full, it must be exhausting to keep it full everyday to feed this many snaptrotters plus the janarim, radaku and kinfa she saw. Really it was like a wildlife convention.
So many different creatures and colors everwhere. Kinfa flew around catching airborn bugs, the people worked with the snaptrotters teaching them ground manners and how not to eat their rider, how to bear pack saddles and how to defend their rider in combat. It all looked so incredibly interesting.
"Can I stay forever?" She asked her guide reverently.
