OFFENSE: 61/100 DEFENSE: 64/100 SUPPLIES: 58/100
gaia_crown[ DISTRICT 3: CLEARVIEW APARTMENTS]:
- Location: Clearview Apartments, located downtown - Faction Leaders:
- Apartment Manager: Zelda Collins (Smerdle) - Head of Security: October Flynn (kuropeco)
- Motif: An umbrella with four culinary knives. All members of this faction carry an umbrella or have an umbrella symbol somewhere on them. Members used to carry culinary kitchen knives, however after Frank from Apartment 160 slipped and fell on his while running from whatever was going on, the community reluctantly agreed that maybe knives were better off left in the kitchen.
- Facilities:
- Private bathrooms, including shower/bath units and toilets. - No official medical facilities; survivors are left to fend for themselves. - Private kitchens, however no electricity means cold meals unless you pay a visit to... - Mysterious Chef on the Third Floor; apparently before the virus hit a famous TV Chef lived in the apartments. They've barricaded themselves in their apartment and refuse to come out. The only time the apartment door opens is if someone leaves food outside. Even then it's not open long; the mysterious chef snatches the food and retreats back into their apartment. Just wait a bit and the door will open again, this time to drop a plate of delicious smelling (and tasting) food outside their door.
- This doesn't have any additional benefit, but at least Downtownies 1) don't have to cook themselves and 2) have the luxury of eating something delicious. Said food is also hot. How did they manage to cook it? The survivors will never know. - This is an NPC for flavor only. Any attempts to forcibly enter the apartment will result in the Mysterious Chef shouting colorful expletives at you. And refusing to feed you. And revoking your delicious food privileges.
- Benefits:
- Running water, however the water is not safe to drink. - Privacy; there are enough rooms for all faction members to have their own apartment. Said apartments also come with an amazing view of the city -- just don't mind all the shambling undead bodies. - Secure; a key card is required to access the building. A security team is also on high alert 24/7.
- Draw backs:
- No electricity; survivors must use the dark fire escape to go up/down the fire escape stairs. Said stairs are not lit. Did we mention the apartment complex is 22 stories tall? - Undrinkable water. Due to no information about the current virus, the only safe water to drink is bottled water. Clearly the government put something in the water. - Keycard required; in order to enter/exit the building, all faction members must use their keycard. This is an IC item only. They must also ICly have an umbrella. This will not be reflected as a minisite item unless they also obtain one in-game.

IC Rules:
Keep your umbrella with you at all times.
No one will be permitted to leave the apartments after sundown unless they are in a group.
Memorize the Clearview Salute weekly. You will not be allowed to reenter the building without it.
We have it on good authority that the key card system will continue to operate indefinitely. Please do not attempt to alter its power source for use with other items as it is 1) deep underground, 2) too weak to provide electricity for your TV, fridge, coffee maker, etc. and 3) our first line of defense against raiders.
Bites and scratches do not spread the infection. Do not believe the lies.
Use the pool at your own risk.
OOC Rules:
It has been a month since the outbreak began. If your character is here it means they have accepted their key card and umbrella and at one point they knew the Clearview Salute. Whether or not they know the current incarnation is up to you, but if they don't they probably shouldn't go outside.
You may only complete two quests every OOC day and those quests must be different for that day. Otherwise there is no restriction on how many times you may choose to do the same quest.
Do not erase posts. If you mess up a roll, edit it with a brief explanation ('I messed up a roll!' is fine) and move on. We are watching. If there are erased posts in your quest threads, you will not be able to claim umbrellas for those threads.
This is not really a rule, but if you want to claim apartments, there are nine on each floor. They are numbered in multiples of 10, preceded by the number of the floor they're on. (i.e. 110, 120, 130 ... 2170, 2180, 2190.) The entirety of the 22nd floor is the penthouse. There are no working elevators, so if you're 60 years old and not an athlete, you're probably not making your home past floor five.
HAVE FUN OR I WILL FIND YOU AND MAKE YOU HAVE FUN
If you have any questions, please contact Smerdle or kuropeco!
Mere days after The Frank Incident, October found a case of those miniature cocktail umbrellas in the hall outside the Mysterious Chef's apartment. In an effort to maintain order and harmony, Zelda and October swiftly introduced a tiered system of authority based around rewarding hard work with those very umbrellas. A high umbrella count nets you better accommodations, warmer clothing, tastier food, and most importantly, bragging rights.
These rewards are largely for flavor, so play them up! The ranks are there to make RP more entertaining as well, though as time goes on and characters advance, those who have earned greater numbers of umbrellas may be eligible for greater IC rewards as well.
TOP RANK: Apartment Manager SECOND TOP RANK: Head of Security
With everyone's injuries taken care of as thoroughly as they could be, Zelda decided it was time to break out the box she had received just before all of this Harbinger nonsense had begun. It would have been nice for there to have been more survival supplies in the delivery, but the boosts in morale that these items would provide would help a lot too.
Quote:
Zelda has received some items that she will trade with Clearview residents for their tiny umbrellas. There is only one of each item (excluding the pencils and Toad head erasers of which there seem to be an infinite number >>), so first come, first served. They cost one cocktail umbrella each, which will be subtracted from your total, though this subtraction will not cause a drop in rank.
If you would like to buy anything, post the form below in this thread and write a very short RP (one or two sentences) in which your character stops by the main office to pick up an item.

Character Name: Zelda Collins Age: 46 Gender: Female Employment: Apartment Manager/Superintendent Faction: District 3: Apartments Weapon: A black umbrella with an interior dome that resembles a bright blue sky dotted with soft, puffy clouds. Its rain-shielding functionality has been severely compromised by the shovel that now runs through it, but it can be held open and used as it was originally intended if absolutely necessary.
Character description: 5'10", respectably muscular, black hair, brown skin, brown eyes, goes out of her way to keep her clothes clean and regularly scavenges for new and gently used garments in her size so that she might change when a mess is unavoidable.
+ motherly + handy - loud - know-it-all
Past: Called in on a routine construction job at Clearview fifteen years ago, Zelda met and befriended Connie Hamilton, the former super. Within the year, she had moved out of the large, suburban house she lived in with her parents, sister, brother, and pair of grandfathers and began working up the ranks until she took on Connie's title herself. Over time she picked up a great number of plumbing and repair skills that helped her keep the apartment complex in good working order. With October's help, she was able to run the business side of things more smoothly as well. The kid's degrees in neurowhatsit and engineering might not actually be useful for business, but Zelda is sure they mean he's smarter than she is. It's a little intimidating, though she would never admit it.
DAY ZERO ENTRY PROMPT:
One good thing about living on the ground floor was that the laundry room was just down the hall. Zelda was back in apartment 140 by 9:45, only an hour after she had started an emergency load of shirts, and she was just about to sign onto Netflix while she folded when the lights flickered and died.
There was a blood-curdling scream in the hall seconds later. Gillian Ng. She screamed if it was Wednesday.
"It's just a fuse!" Zelda shouted, her voice easily carrying out of her apartment as she knew it would. No response. That was... odd considering this was Gillian. It also wasn't Wednesday.
Zelda dropped the shirt she was folding on the counter in front of her, marveling at the perfect darkness around her. Even when Clearview's power was on the fritz, the streetlights outside stayed on. Now they were dark too. She felt her way to the front door, stepping out of her apartment only to be shoved back in by a wild-eyed man she didn't recognize. The beam of his flashlight bounced down the hall with him, illuminating a shambling pack of bloodied people, led by Ms. Ng herself. Zelda backed up, unable to see where she was going but certain she remembered where she'd left her bat. By the time she got back to the door, someone had blocked her in.

Character Name: October Flynn - yes that's his real name, look he didn't pick it okay Age: 26 Gender: Male Employment: Clearview Apartments Head of Security Faction: District 3: Apartments Weapon: An umbrella that gives the impression of being a sword but is really...just an umbrella...
Character description: 6'2", trim and fit, shoulder-length straight black hair with one side buzzed, tanned skin, brown eyes + blue rimmed glasses, perpetual expression of mild annoyance and weariness on his face.
+ sharply intelligent + clever - lazy - very lazy - like supremely lazy - pessimistic - did I mention lazy
Past: The son of two very independent people, October has spent most of his life fending for himself. His mother was a famous actress-turned-state-prosecutor, while his father was a peace loving hippie who spent a great deal of time advocating for Nudity Thursdays at the local bar and passing out All Natural Remedies for everything. The two of them shouldn't have worked, but somehow they did, and it was never really explained just how they fell in love in the first place. October loved his parents, however, in spite of their rather unorthodox ways, and he grew up feeling quite good about himself. His mother taught him to respect women and be strong, while his father taught him to be independent and carefree (the latter of which October sort of took to mean lazy).
When October was eighteen, his mother quit her job as a high powered lawyer and took off with his father, the two of them embarking on a find-yourself-again journey across the world. It's been eight years since then, and they're still on their journey, but October's pretty okay with this, seeing as how they love each other and are having an amazing time.
He attended the local university, graduated with a degree in neuroscience and engineering, and now spent most of his time under the direction of his boss, Zelda Collins, whom October finds pretty chill.
October's favorite pasttime is playing Tomodachi Life. He's very interested in the lives of his Miis okay.

GATHERING NECESSITIES A group of survivors this size needs a lot of food and supplies to... survive. There are any number of places you can scavenge for necessities around the apartment complex during daylight hours if you're by yourself, but to find supplies at night, you're going to need a group. No matter what time you head out, be careful, and remember your umbrella.
Quote:
During the day, your character may search any apartments in the Clearview complex that have been abandoned, nearby bodegas and houses, cars, supermarkets, et cetera, by themselves. At night, they must search in a group, unless they are deliberately disobeying the apartment rules. If they are, they might very well get away with it. Or there might be consequences.
Step One - Grab a Bag
Zelda and October have amassed a decent supply of cloth bags, perfect for holding on to the things you find around the city when being quiet is a priority. Some of them are kind of small, but all of them are more convenient than making do with your arms.
To grab a bag, roll 1d4 and RP stopping by the main office to take one. If you want to skip this step, you will only be able to carry 1 item.
Your bag carries 2 items! Your bag carries 4 items! Your bag carries 2 items! Your bag carries 3 items!
Step Two - Fill That Bag
If you are completing this quest by yourself, you may roll multiple 10-sided dice in each of your posts until you have filled your current bag. If you are completing it with others, roll 1d10 per post.
Please note that you may not ICly keep these items! Whether your character gives them up because they're nice or the security team beats them up daily and takes the items, they will not be translated into personal loot and are only for RP flavor.

GATHERING UMBRELLAS Before the outbreak, people really only used umbrellas when it rained. These days, they are highly sought after, at least if you're looking to make your home at Clearview. Every resident must carry three things with them at all times: a key card, knowledge of the current Clearview Salute, and an umbrella. Sometimes umbrellas are lost. It is up to the community to keep their numbers up.
Quote:
While completing this quest, each roll you make spans one hour. You may only gather umbrellas for five hours at a time (so that's five rolls). Don't ask why; it's something about losing the ability to spot them over time that Zelda probably made up.
You may roll as many 8-sided dice per post as you like, as long as you don't exceed five. One per post might be nice if you're completing this task with others so you can alternate, but that's your call. Place and time are up to you, as long as it's not to far from the building, but be aware that venturing out at night by yourself might get you in trouble. Also up to you: the color and style of the umbrellas you find. Ooo.
You find an umbrella! Sorry, no umbrella for you. You find an umbrella! Sorry, no umbrella for you. You find an umbrella! You find an umbrella! Sorry, no umbrella for you. You find an umbrella! If you find three or more regular-sized umbrellas in a single trip and post over 100 words in this quest, Zelda will reward you with two cocktail umbrellas back at the apartments! (The umbrellas you roll for here do not count as ones you can collect!) Please claim them in this thread using the faction quest point claim form locatedhere.
SECURITY SCREENING Once upon a time, the Clearview Apartments had an airy, spacious lobby. It has since been transformed into a security hub and is the first line of defense against undesirable human survivors. Capable individuals, such as yourself, can volunteer to assist those who maintain the building's security full time.
Quote:
To consider this quest complete, you must clear or deny entry to three people. It doesn't matter if all three fail to make it inside during the first step; as long as you have attempted to clear three individuals, you may go for the umbrella reward.
If you are taking on this quest in a group, one person may do the rolling as long as everyone RPs the results.
Step One - The Key Card
Each resident has a key card that they must carry on their person at all times. The key card readers are the only things that have a working source of power in the building, and as long as they are active, no one without a card should even be able to get through the glass doors without resorting to violence. Ideally, you should be able to just stand there while they let themselves in.
Roll 1d4.
The person approaching has no key card. They beg you to let them in, but you stand firm. Eventually they give up. (It is up to you how much they fight before they go/are chased away.) The person approaching has no key card, but you swear you recognize them. You let them inside when the main guards aren't looking. Move on to Step Two. The person approaching produces their key card and passes through the front doors without incident. Move on to Step Two. The person outside has spent the last twenty minutes searching for their key card and... oh, look! They finally found it! How did it even get in there? Move on to Step Two.
Step Two - The Umbrella
This is a simple umbrella check. Ask to see the resident's equipment.
Roll 1d20.
1-13: An umbrella is successfully produced for inspection. Examine it. Hold it. Comment on it. Move on to Step Three. 14-20: The faker tries to explain that they just misplaced their umbrella, but even if you believe them, they can't come any farther. You may assist security in kicking the person out, or stand back and watch.
Step Three - The Salute
Every Clearview resident must know the Clearview Salute. It changes weekly, so if you have a poor memory, stay inside. In order to make sure the person trying to enter knows the salute, you must take them behind one of several cloth screens and watch them perform it.
Roll 1d6.
They obviously know nothing of the salute. Halfway through their attempt they give up, muttering to themself as they are escorted out. Upon noticing that entry requires a salute, they scream in terror and run back outside. They execute the Clearview Salute flawlessly! You feel confident welcoming them with open arms. You almost approve this person for entry, but something about them gives you pause. You ask to see their umbrella again, and while you're examining it, it falls apart in your hands! INTRUDER! They confidently perform a salute, but it's not the right one. They're going to have to go. After hesitating a little, they stiffly run through the entirety of the salute, only missing one or two gestures. It's good enough, even for the proper security guard peering over your shoulder.
If you complete this quest and post over 100 words, October will reward you with two cocktail umbrellas the next time he sees you! Please claim them in this thread using the faction quest point claim form locatedhere.
CLEARVIEW MAID SERVICE Early on, cleanup was of the utmost importance. There were undying intruders to be dealt with, former residents to bury, and chaos to bring under control through cleanliness.
These days, most of the messes that need to be dealt with are the everyday sort. Food spills, bathroom... mishaps, and general dust are the first things people lose interest in cleaning up, which makes them vital to keep on top of. If you've decided to take on some cleaning duties or have been assigned to do so, here's how you'll accomplish that.
Quote:
Step One - Which Floor?
Generate a random number between 1 and 22. This is the floor that the apartment you'll be cleaning is on. You may choose which specific apartment to clean OOCly. As stated in the rules, there are nine apartments on each floor. They are numbered in multiples of 10, preceded by the number of the floor they're on. (i.e. 110, 120, 130 ... 2170, 2180, 2190.) The entirety of the 22nd floor is the penthouse.
If you're in a group, only one person has to roll for the floor you're on.
Step Two - Clean!
Roll 1d4. The higher the number, the dirtier the apartment. After you roll, you must make one additional RP post for each "degree of filth" in order to clean it. (Roll a 3, make three more RP posts, etc.) When you've made these posts, you're done! The space is clean.
If you're in a group, each member must roll for their own degree of filth.
If you complete this quest and write over 200 words, Zelda will reward you with two cocktail umbrellas the next time she sees you! Please claim them in this thread using the faction quest point claim form locatedhere.
BEYOND THE BARRICADES At Clearview it is customary to keep the doors and windows of unused apartments barricaded against outside threats. Sometimes these barricades fall, sometimes they just get... moved. Either way, they need to be checked on and strengthened regularly.
Quote:
Step One - Choose a Material
There are all sorts of scavenged bits of metal and wood strewn around the complex. Your first job is to gather them up and bring them where they need to be.
Roll 1d8 to see which material you will be using.
sheet metal bed frames random wood mysterious chests full of documents plastic laundry bins desks chairs bookcases If completing this quest in a group, each person should roll for their own material.
Step Two - Barricade!
Once you have chosen a material, it's time to get barricading! Roll 1d20 per post until you have rolled a cumulative 30 in Barricade Effectiveness Points(tm).
If you are completing this quest in a group, you may add all of your rolls together for Step Two.
If you complete this quest and write over 200 words, Zelda will reward you with two cocktail umbrellas the next time she sees you! Please claim them in this thread using the faction quest point claim form locatedhere.
MAKE 'EM LAUGH Living in one of the most secure locales in the city means that the time you would be spending running from the infected is likely spent wallowing in boredom instead. Clearview residents need entertainment. Will you find it in your heart to provide some?
Step One - Decide What to Do
Roll 1d6 to decide how you're going to entertain your audience. If you are completing this quest in a group, you only need one person to roll for step one.
singing hallway parkour plate spinning dancing storytelling your choice of 1-5
Step Two - Perform!
Roll 1d100. The higher you roll, the better your act is received by your audience.
If you are completing this quest in a group, you may count the first roll of step two as the roll for the group, if you so choose. Obviously this is only beneficial if they roll an 85 or higher (see below), but the offer stands for lower rolls as well. If the first person does not roll a number you are satisfied with, everyone else must roll separately. To reiterate, roll sharing only counts for the first person who rolls for step two in a group. Once the second person rolls, you may no longer count any step two roll as the group's roll. There's an example in the spoiler below, but if you have any questions, please PM Smerdle.
A Good Example of Group Rolling
Alberto rolls an 87!
No one else in the group rolls for Step Two. Everyone RPs the group's well-received act in a separate post (or posts). Everyone may claim umbrellas when they meet word count.
A Bad Example of Group Rolling
Alberto rolls a 22. Mindy rolls a 3. Helga rolls a 91! Bob rolls a 67. Yelvis rolls a 81.
Helga's roll may not be considered a group success because she did not roll first. Alberto, Mindy, Bob, and Yelvis must RP their acting/dancing/storytelling failures, while Helga RPs her blazing success. Helga is eligible for three umbrellas, everyone else gets two.
Another Good Example of Group Rolling
Alberto rolls a 22. Mindy rolls a 99! Helga rolls a 4. Bob rolls a 56. Yelvis rolls a 88!
Mindy and Yelvis's rolls may not be considered group successes because they did not roll first. Alberto, Helga, and Bob must RP their acting/dancing/storytelling failures, while Mindy and Yelvis RP their wonderful two man Hamlet. Mindy and Yelvis are eligible for three umbrellas, everyone else gets two.
If you roll an 85 or higher and post over 200 words in the quest, Zelda will reward you with three cocktail umbrellas the next time she sees you! If you roll below 85 and post over 100 words, she still recognizes your effort. You get a smiley face sticker and two umbrellas. Please claim your umbrellas in this thread using the faction quest point claim form locatedhere.

Whether a faction likes it or not, the undying AND infected will consistently be attempting to weaken the defenses of the faction. It is the duty of each faction participant to reinforce their faction walls and keep the swarms at bay. They will achieve this by participating in special GM events that award bonus district stats.
A [ Bonus District Stat ] is an additional award you get for participating in the 48 hour events, also known as the major storyline-based [ GM ORPS ]. Additional ones MAY be gained through smaller GM rps. It is your responsibility as a player to pitch in and help your district! This is a group effort!
When you obtain a [ Bonus District Stat ], you may apply the stat to your district's OFFENSE, DEFENSE, or SUPPLIES HP bar. If any of these bars go to zero it is GAME OVER.
[ Offensive Stat ] The more offense your district has, the better natural attacks it has against swarms of the undying and infected. The best defense is a great offense after all!
[ Defensive Stat ] The more defense your district has, the better protected your shelter is against potential natural disasters and wear and tear. Being exposed to the elements of nature is no laughing matter, especially when the vines around you seem to be rather alive.
[ Supplies Stat ] Without supplies, your faction would no longer be able to function at all. While food and water is up to each player, base supplies such as weapons, and shared faction supplies would all be lost, and the result would of course be, mass panic.
At the end of EVERY 24 hours, a "debuff" will be applied to your faction. It could happen to any of the three stats(or some, or all!) of any randomly generated number. Once again, any of these three stats above is at ZERO, your faction will collapse and it is GAME OVER for that faction! To view how your faction is doing, simply look at the first post of this thread in the faction stats quote!!
Posted: Mon Sep 14, 2015 2:16 am
It is GAME OVER for a faction if your faction's offense, defense, OR supplies stat reaches ZERO. A random event will be rolled daily once every 24 hours, applying a debuff to one or several of them. Remember that by participating in GM ORPS and collecting [ BONUS DISTRICT STATS ], and dropping them off using the form below, you may actually UP any stat that you think is looking weak for your faction to prevent collapse! Their fate is in your hands!
If a faction disbands (GAME OVER), it no longer has a "Safe" hub. All RPs must be done in the zones
If a faction disbands, players cannot align themselves to another faction, BUT they can still wander the zones. Their HP is now halved for the rest of the event
If a faction disbands, ALL items all players own in that faction will be DELETED
If a faction disbands, two RANDOM players from that faction will be rolled for instant death.

Make sure you have the CORRECT FORM when redeeming!
[ FACTION QUEST POINTS ] Are for the point system you gain within your own faction. These are usually obtained via your faction quests, though it can also be rewarded by your faction leaders for exemplary work.

[ BONUS DISTRICT STATS ] Are the bread and butter of keeping your base "alive". Remember that you can spread them out into three stats: offensive, defensive, and supplies. Think carefully, and take a look at the current stats of your faction before making a choice. If ANY of these stats hits 0, it is game over for your faction. Once again, these are obtained via the main storyline GM ORPS.
