3 Base Traits:

Honorable– Reillan comes from an ancient warrior family, while not noble they are very well respected and well off. Most of their family have been warriors of spear, sword or hammer. And it is expected that children will choose one of these weapons as a youngling. Reillan holds honor close to his heart and will put himself in danger if it means coming through on a promise or saving his family’s face. This can put him in some stressed and difficult situations.

Independant – He is a stoic survivor and he feels he doesn’t need others at all. He can work individually or with a group. His one weakness is his twin brother, whom does not fit the family tradition. Reillan has no problem with striking out on his own, he doesn’t mind the company of others but he does not need them to function. He feels awkward when people ask him if he wants help and if he needs it will be surprised at their generosity and very grateful.

Dominant – Reillan is used to getting his way in the world, part due to determination and part due to this family. This has formed a confident air that he is where he is supposed to be, confident and near the top of the ladder. His families oldest members are at the top of that ladder. He is not sure whether nobles are placed above or below, he expects to figure that out with time.

Personality:
Reillan dislikes frivulous things if it doesn't have a purpose why bother. He has been taught to be stoic and quiet, to observe, protect and fight. His family has guarded royals for generations and they are appreciated in battle. He strives to make his family proud to take the disaproving eyes off of his brother. He can be very protective of those few who penetrate his shell of stoic calm. He expects respect from everyone and refuses to bow to those he sees as lesser then himself. They are proven lesser by merit of their behavior.

He likes routine and calmness and radiates calm authority at all times except under stress. He has a hard stare that may make people squirm when they displease him. His very calmness may be disconcerting to some. He is hard to rile, but certain things get a much swifter and larger stress response from him. Insulting his family, himself and his brother are almost guaranteed to get some sort of reaction.

Description: The darkest shade of skin that fire people are available in with large crystals down his back and a few medium sized on his upper chest that get smaller as you get closer to his center line, they are placed just under his collarbone. Bright red eyes heavily saturated. He has a well balanced, handsome face with a somewhat less flattened nose. Light stubble on the cheeks. Lots of long black hair loose down his back non dreadlocked and wavy/loose curls. His hair is tied with a bright red band. Reillan is built to last with a body well muscled all over, he is above average height but not hugely so. He has bright intelligent eyes.

Clothing: Deep red pants with black bands around his ankles and a black belt. No shirt But black fabric arm bracers on his forearms. Leather sandals.

Accessories: Jeweled forehead chain with a gem which is a deep blood red that dangles in the middle of his forehead, the sides are hidden in the hair. This is a symbol of his family and they all wear them.

History: Reillan belongs to a somewhat strict, static family. There are things one simply does not do when part of the Rentrad family. His twin brother does most of those things, and Reillan is always in a rush to protect him. He tries to do his very best to keep his families attention on his stellar behaviour to spare his poor brother. In this family one is expected to chose a weapon and path at the youngling stage. Reillan chose the way of the broadsword...his brother chose to be a dancer. Reillan loves his twin, Keelthy, and feels his pain acutely when his family doesn’t accept him and indeed pick on him. Their bond is very strong and he is the thing that catalyzes Reillan to break rules, all in the name of protection. He thinks his brother has a beautiful soul and does not deserve the ratting he gets from the family. The cousins are not so bad it is those members in the generations above that cause all the trouble. Honor is everything and male Rentrads DO NOT DANCE.

Reillan has grown into a strong young man who is very solid and hard to sway. He was able to join the Oban’s on their attempt to take over Tendaji. He was privileged to see battle and had a good time trying out his borrowed weapon. He secretly rejoiced when the treaty was made. He was sure his brother would be sent to Jahaur and that would mean that Keelthy would be safe from the pestering of his family. Reillan could visit when he wanted his brother could grow into the man that Reillan knew he was on the inside. He hadn’t thought that this meant that he himself would be able to go where he wanted with less family influence until his brother brought it up. With both of them safe Reillan could explore and do new things too. It was an unexpected temptation, but habits change hard and Reillan finds himself sticking to the old ways for now. He has returned to Oba to see what will happen with the new order of things. Rentrads were expected to do their own work so he was neither here nor there on the release of the Matori peoples.

He loved his family, especially his mother who had chosen a hammer as her weapon, she had married into the family and had covered up most of her personality, only showing it to their small immediate family. When others were around she was the perfect wife, when they were not she tossed her hammer at her husband to get at fresh cookies first. Reillan saw a lot of his mother in his brother and they truly had a deep secret connection that hardly ever saw the light of day. Reillan looked and moved and seemed more like his father then even he knew, he had used his father as a role model to survive this long, he was adapted to this life. His brother never had been. Reillan greatly admires Keelthy and hopes to one day feel that free. Even in the face of adversity Keelthy smiles and secretly insults those who are pestering him. Reillan in contrast would bend and bend under the pressure to honorable and accountable for his actions to brush things off.

his family shamed his brother publicly because of his life choice and who he is attracted to. Now he is defecting to Jahaur. They impinged on his brother's honor in a contradiction to the family values that they seem so concerned about. This confuses Reillan terribly and he starts to wonder about the values and mentality of his family. Is pride and honor worth attempting to destroy the spirit of a son of your family no matter his inclinations? Do his choices make him not family, not blood, not important? Do they not realize he is a living breathing being with feelings and thoughts? Most of these only Reillan has been privy to due to the subduction of his brother. This makes Reillan angry and he choses his brother over his family.

Really the biggest problem are the coalition of uncles and grandparents, they are getting to old for battle and have nothing better to do then manage their families reputation. They had attempted to sequester Keelthy away but eventually it leaked out to the public that he liked either gender and wanted to break tradition and become a dancer. This is something that the old men of the family are afraid of. They worry that it will besmirch the family name. Reillan doesn't understand that as he grew up so close to his brother. He thinks he should be able to love whomever he choses and chose whichever path fits him best. He is incensed that his family would treat his brother this way. This sets him against them as a whole, though he still has individual feelings for his mother and father who will be hit hard when he splits himself off from them as well. He will still write letters but never with his or his brother's exact locations.

Solo 001
Reillan packed his bag in a hury, everything around him seemed clouded by a veil of rage. This home once commonplace, everyday now felt strange. His brother was no longer welcome in Oba, and seeing as Reillan was closest to his brother Keelthy, he no longer wanted to stay here to hear about how "different" and "wrong" his brother was. It was wrong to be so narrow minded, his uncles had been retired too long, they had become so set in their dumb ways that they wanted all children to grow up to be just like them. His brother was not just like them. His brother was not like them, he had his own path to walk and because he dedicated himself to that path and had continued believing in his path, the three uncles in their family had called him out in public and stripped him of their support, acceptance and understanding. Reillan had stood with his mouth wide open amoung the crowded streets of Oba jarred out of his reality. His family had been hard on Keelthy, but mother nad father had been a sheltering harth. HIs father was still in active duty, and as such was protecting the nobles of Oba. Hence he was not present for the shaming of his son. As far as Reillan was concerned his brother was made of rainbows and his uncles were made of fragrant dung. His lips curled over his teeth as he tossed the last thing into his pack and made his way out of the house. Keelthy had already left the area. Reillan would meet up with him, he did not deserve rejection or shame, there was nothing for him to be ashamed of. So he wanted to dance instead of wield one of the three approved weapons of the family. So what if he appreciated all company not just the female sort.

As far as Reillan was concerned gender preference did not matter. Family should be stronger then prejudice and he could no longer tolerate being around people who did not understand such a basic thing.

He stormed out the front door and dove back into the hustle and bustle of bodies that was Oba. The street thronged with people, as per usual but now the push and shove of daily life just served to piss him off. He growled once or twice until he reached the main thoroughfare where it was easy for a single person to weave in and out. He stopped at a shop and loaded up on food. This would be a big move on his part. He had not been shamed by his family, he had done his best to fit into their mold. He had trained hard, was stoic and quiet, he had chosen to pursue the single sword. He had been a model nephew and yet his devotion had not been enough to protect his brother, his best friend, the person whom he was closest to; he had failed. Now his heart burned for Keelthy who was full of happiness and joy and enjoyed life in a way that Reillan hadn't mastered yet. His world seemed dull in comparison which was odd because they had lived in the same place together. Or they had been, now they would still be together but in what would feel like an entirely new world separated from Oba for now. It would take time for Reillan to work through all of this and he felt it was better if he stayed out of Oba while he figured it out. His first priority was to ensure his brother's safety. His biggest concern was a place to stay for that night. They would not make it all the way out of Oba tonight. But first he would have to find his brother.

He prowled through the dense streets of Oba, the press of people making his stomach almost heave as it never had before. His soul burned and his world had been flipped upside down. Home, not home, what determined that now? Would he and his brother find peace and acceptance among the people that his people had tried to shove out of their home? He greatly doubted this, if Obans were not that forgiving he doubted any of the others of which he had not seen were. Were they primitive savages? He had not heard much except the odd snippet on the streets he could no longer tolerate.

He snarled as he was bumped rather hard, miscreant. He had a right to walk here too. Perhaps leaving would lessen the population crush a little what would it be like to breathe clean air not scarred by the stench of too many Obans stuffed so close together. He both raged and pitied his people, perhaps he wasn't the only one who had noticed that now the people had an escape...which Obans would flee to tendaji? Would any of his friends go? The few that he had, well aquaintences, were also from guardian families and one merchant family. He groaned...and all the pretty girls too. Would some of them come to Jahaur? Even the name sounded odd, who had known there was a different world sitting like right on top of them. He hadn't even gotten out of Oba to visit Matori yet.

He sniffed, then bit his tongue hard. NOT the time to be a wimp he didn't even know where that blatant show of weakness had come from, Keelthy had had his heart ripped out today and HE hadn;t sniffed, what was wrong with him? No he was a self respecting Oban and he demanded that others treat him with the same respect he gave himself and his brother. He would stand tall, he would get himself and Keelthy through this because Keelthy had no one else with the exception of his mother who was staying behind and his absentee father who as the youngest of the brothers was still working upholding the family name while his brothers shredded his family like cabbage. One would think they would love their brother as much as he loved his but no, they were cold hearted scum and he hated their guts. That rage would get them to somewhere safe where they could put their lives back together, because rage and righteousness was all he had at the moment.

Solo 002
Reillan had finally reached the border after staying with the Oban family who had been so kind to shelter them while they prepared for this crazy trip. Yes there would be other Obans settling i n the are so they would not be completely alone but there would also be those people called shifters and the tall feelered females...alkidikies he thought they were called. He wondered what they would think of the people settling on land that had previously belonged to them, they would not likely be looked upon favorably. he wondered if they shouldn't have headed to Matori instead but they would probably not welcome them either, and he would not stay in Oba, nope. He gazed up at the shadowy, heavy boughed trees and tried to squish the creepy feeling he was having. keelthy was making camp at the edge of the forest at this moment so it was Reillan's duty to go hunting and forage as Keelthy was busy and not interested in any violence for the moment. It was close to sundown and he had decided not to push too far forward into an area that was normally darker anyway. He was not the best at climbing trees either so there was no way he was going in there with any maleable disadvantage. That was how one got eaten, so he would stay near the edge to hunt, no use getting lost in that tangle of vines, then Keelthy would have to rescue him. Now that was a funny thought, he smiled. he had never thought of his brother as the rescuing type just as he was not really the damsel in distress type.

Reillan brushed aside the dense green foliage disdainfully. This area was rife with the stuff. No control, no order just a mass of large trees and undergrowth seemingly designed to impede any progress whatsoever. No wonder Oba had called a truce if they had had to fight in this ilk. The great cities were clogged with other things and didn't have this vegetation problem. How would he sleep at night knowing that this mess was so close? He hissed grouchily into the dark and nearly crawled out of his own skin when something hissed back at him.

He yelped and tried ungracefully to scramble up a tree but slid depressingly back to the ground face to bark. He turned his head and came into eye contact with something seemingly made out of shadows and bad breath. It hissed again, opening huge jaws with impressive canines. In times like these only indecent words came to mind so Reil didn't utter any of them even though he really really wanted to. Since there was no escape, no way to over power whatever this shadowy thing was and no hope of any help; Reil decided he would just have to befriend it or resign himself to a career as indigestion. Regretting his earlier show of startlement he would not admit that it had been fear to himself or the creature, he puffed himself up as big as he could get, stuck out his chest and stared the beast in the eye once more, wrapping himself in an air of authority as best he could. Now or never, he bared his own teeth, hoping it would not eat his arrogant self on principle due to his show of bravado.

The creature stared back then looked at him sideways, idly Reillan noticed that like himself the creature had red eyes. Reillan was just about to celebrate his success when the creature swatted him, the impact sent him flying ungracefully into a heap on the dark forest floor. He reflected as he spat out leaf litter that perhaps challenging the creature had not been one of his brightest moves. Ow, that had hurt, but he didn't feel any bleeding, that had to be a perk right? Uncrumpling himself he turned to face the beast, which, he saw now was actually a janarim thanks to the bright beam of moonlight that had snuck through the trees to by chance illuminate the creature who was tormenting him.

This janarim was so dark that it blended incredibly well into the trees. The coloration explained its presence in the forest at least. A predator that dark would bake in the hot Oban sun. Thus it would make sense to hunt in the desert at night while using the forest as dense cover during the day. He would be more impressed by its intelligence if it hadn't have batted him around like a rodent. Reillan stood again, gave a blood curdling whoop and rushed at the creature who's eyes widened in surprise. The Janarim backed off a step and Reillan stopped his charge. That step back had been what he wanted. Now they were on equal footing as far as status went, animals were not so far off from humans in this way.

Deciding that friendship was a lost cause Reil walked away at a ninety degree angle from the fanged one. They would just have to live off of supplies from the city until tomorrow . Hunting tonight was a lost cause as he could see no point in going back into that warren of dangerous creatures when he couldn't even see what was trying to eat him. Reil stomped back to the camp already having had enough of the jungle and he hadn't even got that far in either, how sad.

He sulked by the fire, ate precious resources that were hard to come by and feel asleep grumpy. Something heavy thumped into him in the middle of the night, he had assumed that it was his brother. But the next morning when he woke up he saw exactly who had decided to share his bed. The Janarim was less mysterious in daylight but no less of a menace. Reil stuck his tongue out at the beast as. It rolled in its sleep an inadvertently crushed his foot in the process.

It looked like at least now they would have an escort, who knew how long it would stay. He had thought about having a "pet" if this creature could indeed be called that, but he had thought at the time that he would be the one choosing jis own not the other way around. As his foot went numb he kind of hoped it wold get bored and leave them alone eventually.

The next day went better, they delved back into the forest despite Reil's misgivings, and his limp. They made it to the settlement of Neued their "guest" in tow.

Solo 003
Arriving at the camp late in the day Reill was glad to see the mostly bare patch of land he was assigned. It had been a disturbingly long and arduous day; his body complained, his feet complained and his eyes were scratchy from inadequate sleep. His bedroll could not unroll fast enough. As he crawled inside he likened the sensation of the fabric against his bug bitten skin as divine. He had just settled in when a resounding thump startled him out of his reverie. The janarim that had followed them all day had again taken up residence right beside him. Grumbling Reil rolled over and fell asleep promptly.

As dawn broke it brought with it pale white light which filtered through light cloud cover. The brightness bestirred Reill who had been too lazy to bother with setting up the tent. Bleary eyed he went through the usual morning motions before setting out to explore the camp and its novel wonders. His mood had finally broke and he was glad that they had arrived at their destination in such a timely fashion. After finding some breakfast he followed the familiar shouts and yells of battle training. These finally led him to a place set up for practice in the arts of battle. There were a variety of weapons in use including hammers, spears, paired swords and a trident which he watched curiously for a while.

Eventually a leaf man with a hammer who didn’t have a sparring partner called him over. “Why don’t you join me Oban? I need a sparring partner.” Reill got a good look at his new opponent and flinched as he saw the size of his shoulders..he was a prentice right? Well no need to tell the man of his inexperience yet, the fight would tell him all he needed to know anyway. Reil nodded at the man and scurried over to the spare weapon bin. He fished out a wooden training sword and hope that it would stand up to that hammer he would have to keep on his toes in order to preserve his weapon long enough to hopefully get in a few good whacks in on his opponent. Hopefully all that shoulder muscle weighed him down. Reil being so young and untrained was more sinewy then anything and he was sure the Leaf man outweighed him as well.

Reill hopped over the short fence and approached where the two exchanged names. The Leaf man said his name was Dreaven. He had been raised in Jahaur from a young age. Reil exchanged a short version of his own history and then the two began to close. The blows from the heavy hammer jarred his arm and seemed to vibrate up to his shoulder joint, but once he warmed up a little he started to dance about the slower man. Feinting and poking soon both were grunting with the effort and sweating in the thick Jahaur air. Of course his hand hold started to get slippery, the sweat not evaporating like it should. This wasn’t ever much of a problem with the place he came from and the wood kept trying to slither out of his hand. Finally he called a halt and wrapped the bare handle with some cloth so he could continue without the risk of dropping it and embarrassing himself.

Wielding the sword felt right, he had picked about in the bin thinking that now that he was not overseen by his family he could choose any weapon he wanted but decided to stick with the weapon he had chosen so long ago as a youngling. Practicing now with no other influence then the wind and his opponent he knew he had chosen properly. It would be the single sword for him. He could only hope that his decision to leave Oba was also as good as this one. His distraction ended up costing him his wooden blade; the hammer came down and he heard a wooden crack right before it slipped past his defense and landed a glancing blow on himself. Panting the pair stopped fighting. Reil waved the other man off that he had won the round.

The leaf man grinned at patted him on the shoulder he had not bruised and walked off to go wash some of the sweat off in a trough nearby. Reillan crawled back over the fence and leaned himself against a post, his legs spread out in front of him. That had been a good work out, if he could say one thing for the people of tendaji it was that they had stamina, no wonder they had done so well the second round of fighting once they figured out what they were up against. Of course quite a bit of that could have been no little amount of desperation.

Bemused he rested his body and watched as a group gathered around his janarim, a creature which he decided needed a name since it appeared it was sticking around him for some unfathomable reason. He decided to call him Xarthin after a great Oban warrior who had specialized with the single sword. Xarthin swatted at his admirers with his tail in a move that Reil rather thought was more do to curiousity and boredom them annoyance at his admirers. He certainly was a character and finally released of the accompanying stress of moving Reil thought he might just learn to enjoy his janarim’s sense of humor..once he understood it a little better that was.
