A woman with dark, close cropped hair sat at the front of the sunlit classroom, her feet propped up on the desk as she took a long drag from a cigarette. "Take a seat, piglets. I'm gunna get all informative on your asses, so sit up, clench your little tushies, and take notes." Smoke unfurled from her nostrils as she gave the gathering a dryly amused look. "I'm Miranda, I head up the ballistics labs and basically act as the big D in R&D. I've heard a lot of you precious treasures are having a hard time without easy charges on your runics or not being able to play Candy Crush and s**t on your phones. And that's sad."
She didn't look particularly sad.
"So we at the Research and Development labs would officially like to say we understand and commiserate with your hardships in this time of need, and fully appreciate your patience and cooperation. That said, we're busy, deal with it." She shrugged, and spun her chair around as she stood up, flicking more ash in the class's general direction as she gestured. "Big surprise, yeah? Some of you more experienced piggles probably saw that coming a mile away." She waggled her eyebrows at them, "But, there is a thing you can do for yourself. Enough to give you some runic charges and a keep your phone powered, at least."
Turning to the board she drew a large symbol in chalk.
"This is Uruz. Also known as Ur, Uraz, Urs, Urur, Urus. It's the most basic, simple rune we use. All it really does is collect and store energy when properly carved. For the most part we use it in conjunction with runes that allow us to direct that power. But I'm not here to teach pigpigs more than how to keep their s**t charged, so if you're interested in that, join the ******** Life Division. Now watch."
Turning back to the board, Miranda traced her chalk over the rune over and over again in a steady, focused motion. The cigarette in her mouth slowly turned into just a cylinder of ash, finally dropping to the floor as she abruptly steeped back and spat the filter out. On the board, the symbol briefly glowed a bright, searing blue before dimming back into chalk one again. "Focus and precise repetition draws the energy, for the most part FEAR, into the rune. A drawing can't hold it for long, which is why we carve our symbols. Most regular material can't hold the carved rune for long either, which is why we use runestone. You see where I'm going with this? Even adorable pig-ignorants such as yourself can make one of these if you have the material, time, and concentration."
Pulling something out of her pocket, Miranda held up a stone for the class to see, Uruz glowing steadily at it's center. "This can't power the island, but it can charge a runic once or your phone for a good week or so. But you'll have to carve it yourself, and get the runestone yourself as well, because, yet again, we're busy. Usually we pick up runestone from Halloween itself, they got s**t tons and hardly ever use it except as a ******** fashion statement. Lucky for you, there's a source on the island that also has plenty enough to last you. You'll have to do some swimming and put your little bacon bits at risk, but hey, getting your Bejeweled score up is totally worth it, right?"
The Life hunter lit up another cigarette and gave them all a small wave as she walked to the door, "That's the limit of my willingness to socialize with pork. There's some pamphlets on the desk with more info if you're gunna go through with it. Ciao."
