Character Name: Kadevla (K’la)
Created: July 20, 2010
Age: 33 (32 at creation, updated 6/28/11)
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Greenrider
Family:
Cousin: Hinalle
Children: Kadayon
History: Kadeya was born in Lemus Hold. Part of the old, established Ladrear family that ran the hold, she had a comfortable childhood. She was raised as a cousin of the son next in line to rule, but she was hardly the only relative. The Ladrear family was always known for its… prolific bloodline, as well as its long history. The family was especially prevalent in old Lemus Hold, where resources didn’t well support such a top-heavy family. The solution was to send many of the younger and more distant family to other holds and weyrs, or else assign them a profession and oust them entirely. Kadeya, fifteen turns at the time, did not find being sent to Benden Weyr as luck. She wept prettily and pleaded to her family in public to pull heartstrings, and alone bawled and trembled at the thought of being sent away. The emotional display gave her no advantage over her extended family, and she was sent along some male relative she had little interest in. Sent by caravan (the indignity of be shuffled off in a wagon stiffened her reserve like smelling salts), she arrived at the weyr with what dignity she could muster.

Two turns passed. Life at the weyr was not the dramatic sacrifice of noble blood and morals on an unscrupulous alter she had imagined from Lemus. Although Benden was known as a conservative weyr, it an exotic and enticing home to the hold-born girl. The dragons, presence of female riders, different clothing styles, and gentle jibes of the werefolk all goaded her into adopting their lifestyle – to some extent anyway. At least she attended hatchings, altered the hems of her clothes, and flirted openly with boys, but she did all this in a sassy, brazen manner, as if it were some game. In private though, she still quietly demurred to her old ways. The only ‘game’ she played at and fulfilled was flirting, and then only for one certain weyrbrat Candidate of charm and good looks. Two turns of weyr life brought two equal events to her fortuitous life. The first was a stands Impression where Yevth sought her out. The second were her first signed of pregnancy a fortnight after the hatching. Though the babe was less surprising than the dragon, it caused more turbulence when K’la decided against much advice to keep it. Raising a young dragon while pregnant was a trial to the delicate-willed woman, but daft determination saw her through and only resulted in putting her and Yvoth behind in learning to go between. At raising her newborn son though, her will gave in and she only lightly applied herself as a mother. She tended to indulge her son, as it was the simplest course of handling things, and while she never treated him harshly, whenever problems exasperated their relationship she sent him to an older female friend for guidance. Now that Kadayon has begun training as a Candidate, she has breathed a sigh of relief. Surely parenthood must get easier now.
Physical: Most striking about K’la is her clothes. Being a dragonrider has not lessened her love of finery. Her riding gear is studied and embroidered with decoration that is truly somewhat unseemly for thread battle, and the clothes she wears about the weyr on a daily basis are dyed delicate colors and often garner amused looks or giggles from Candidates. Despite this, she bears herself with feminine pomp and ties her auburn, curly hair back with stiff, colorful ribbons when she cannot wear it down.
Although not a youth, she is taking care of her fine figure and ages very well. She might have been a bit tall for a truly graceful Hold lady, but it’s excusable as a rider. Her eyes, a dark brown, are large and doe-like (or wherry-like depending on your judgment of the woman), and her arms a traced with a bit of muscles despite her distaste of grueling work.
Personality: K’la isn’t a stupid woman, nor is she malicious. But neither is she witty or full of deep emotions. Perhaps it’s most accurate to say she is very little of anything. Her vanity is an enormous thing, but seems mostly learned. Clothes are to be tended to simply because they ought to be. Hair is simply meant to be treated in a certain way and while she takes pleasure in her looks, she feels little about them, the way one might like good food but not live for it. Many of her other opinions seemed learned as well. She believes women should defer to men outside of feminine subjects, that weyrs deserve the first fruit of the Holds they protect, that children are innocent and forgivable, and that atypical dragons are weak of body and mind. But if intellectually asked why she thinks these things, she could not deliver a detailed answer. She attaches little importance to these vague questions when she believes in the world she sees and immediately understands. She is more concerned with social status and being pleasant toward others. For instance, she was terrified of the mysterious life weyrfolks lived until she came to Benden, and then her opinion shifted toward liking. Her susceptibility to other’s opinions became her strength in that situation, but she is a woman easily led astray.

Though she could not explain it and probably wouldn’t even admit to being aware of it, K’la does have some innate moral code. She’s never been drawn into truly mischievous acts. When uncomfortable with an order or request, her social skills come into play and she can neatly duck out of difficult situations by playing a delicate female or being simple. She disapproves of people with strong wills that disrupt social patterns, but generally wishing others well, she tends to show them a chiding sort of affection.
Dragon: Green Yvoth
RP Opportunities:
~~~ If K'la is good at nothing else, it is at manipulating social situations. She can be expected to arrive fashionably late, lovely, and charm whoever needs it the most.
~~~ Although it's widely said that K'la hasn't a bit of common sense in her head, fiscally, she is as crafty as a tunnel snake. Her color clothes and well-decorated weyr all suggest she is rather well-funded for a greenrider.

Personality: With a personality to match the brightness of her hide, Green Yvoth is a dragon with a sunny disposition. So much so she's often considered a bit of a ditz. Earnest and keen, she'll do her best at whatever's asked of her and is prone to distraction by 'nice guys'. Perhaps a little gullible even, this green is the sort of person even the hard-hearted would feel bad wronging.

Energetic and playful, she's quite fascinated by the goings on of this different Weyr and has been known to get in the way as she investigates things. Yvoth is friendly, though, so her presence isn't really discouraged, just the kind people remark 'can only handle a dose of' about.

+++ Canoake
Under construction

+++ Hinalle
Under construction

+++ Kadayon
Kayadon is K'la's only offspring. Against advise she insisted on having the child - her Hold raising made her believe it her duty to pass on at least one heir. Her duties as a rider (and her social addiction to parties) leave her little time to play her role as a mother, but she does dote on the boy affectionately when she finds herself with time for him. Yvoth playfully considers the boy a sort of half-sibling they both were 'born' to K'la near the same time. The dragon likes him as she does most people, but she has the feeling that the boy is sometimes put off with her and tends to avoid him.

+++ F'itz (Brown Brumath)
K'la finds F'itz a bit old and stuffy for her tastes personally, but thinks him a pleasant enough man in general. Yvoth is indifferent toward F'itz, but finds His Brumanth rather confusing. She usually doesn't speak with the brown unless spoken to, and then her answers are usually hesitant as she tried to understand his riddling speech.

+++ D'vas (Blue Jivith)
K'la enjoys flirting with D'vas in a distant way. She likes his suave, charming attitude, but ever since a woman from the lower caverns began voicing his parentage at the top of her lungs no less her flirting has grown a bit cooler. Yvoth enthusiastically likes both rider and dragon, and if Jivith seems to think little of her because of her sex, she's yet to notice it. She might take it into her head to let the blue fly her one day.

+++ B'tar (Green Primath)
K'la likes B'tar. He seems a good sort of man and admirable. However, K'la and her dragon both disprove of the man's dragon. K'la, because Primath is unfeminine in her ambition, and Yvoth because the she has the worried suspicion that Primath might look down on her for her lack of ambition.

+++ S'raid (Bronze Galvanth)
K'la alternates between being wary of S'raid and trusting him. He is, after all, a bronzerider and she defers to his rank, especially with the situation at Trine, but sometimes she is unsure what goals the determined man really has in mind. Yvoth is indifferent toward S'raid, but rather likes Galvanth when he's in a good mood.

+++ R'vik (Blue Xalth)
K'la sees the young blue rider as something of a child. She admires his fashion sense and likes to discuss hair dyes and clothing styles with the young man, but his work ethic and wild spirit makes her think of him as something of a lackey. Yvoth generally likes both rider and dragon, as she does most everyone.

+++ Gamma Hatching Feast
Most of Benden

. : Abandoned : .

+++ No-man's Land
T'vek (Faranth)
After the accident that stole Alumanth's life, K'la is sent to Trine to pick up enough supplies for the Benden group to stay isolated outside the weyr. While nervous Yvoth is being loaded down with supplies, she meets a black rider...
