Character Name: B'tar Age: 32 Sexual Orientation: (Open: bi or straight) Craft/Rank: Apprentice Star-Smith/Wingrider
History: B'tar was born to one of the lower ranking families in one of Benden's holds to a family of beast-crafters, though he seems determined almost to erase any trace of this inglorious past, or at least not let it stand in his way. From boyhood, he was more than a little fascinated with the Weyrs, and with the dragon riders, and everything to do with tracking and fighting Thread and the Red Star.
Although he's ready to accuse them of it, his family wasn't dull, just not driven with the level of ambition that their youngest son was. He pressed to become an apprentice to the Star-Smiths, instead of a beast-crafter, and was accepted for his high intelligence and sharp skill of analysis, and was rapidly enthralled by the study.
Like many born in the holds he was initially thrown by the very different atmosphere toward sexuality in the Weyrs, made a concerted effort to become comfortable with it, as part of his determination to escape what he considers the more 'backward' people of the Holds, and if he has any residual issues with rider relationships, he hides them extremely well. He had slightly arrogant expectations of his own future in the Weyrs, and pictured himself either as a Master-Star-Smith, or as a dragon leader, and will even admit with a chuckle, that he entertained a few fantasies of becoming Weyr-leader, though this is unlikely at best. ((Impossible at worst, depending on his dragon.)) This no longer bothers him though, and he's well pleased with his lot in life, and continues to lightly dabble in, and otherwise annoy Benden Star-Smiths to informally study over their shoulders, just to keep his hand in. Any opportunity he can get to hear about new discoveries in the trade is an fantastic day in his mind.
Description: Thick, wavy brown hair to the back of his neck, and an pleasant enough face with slightly large eyes. ((Which look larger when he looks startled, which is maybe a little more often than he'd like.))
His large dark brown eyes tend to make him look more 'boyish' than the coy, playboy image he likes to think he projects, and his taste for well tailored clothes, albeit in conservative colors, even cut to his slightly shorter size, tend to make him look like a young man wearing his fathers clothes. Although he might be grateful in ten years or so for his tendency to look younger than he actually is, at the moment he's just annoyed to be occasionally mistaken for an much less experienced rider.
Personality: Highly intelligent and calculating, B'tar would do better if he were better at not tripping intermittently over his own sense of self worth. He tends to boast first, act second from time to time, and while he often -can- do what he says he can, it doesn't mean he can do it in the time frame he pictured, or as easily as he's sure it -should- be for a man of his 'clear' mental superiority. He'll learn his lesson for a good month or two, and then with almost dragon like selective memory, charge into another vastly time consuming project with the idea that it should only take an few hours. He's quite confident in his own ability to attract people, and this, combined with his self assurance regarding his intelligence, can make him come across as either conniving, arrogant, or sometimes both, but those who are willing to put up with him will find that in spite of being frequently self serving, he means well, and will back his way into helping others sometimes almost by happy accident.
Other: -B'tar is passably curious about A-types, but isn't truly sure what to make of them, other than finding them high maintenance. The fertility, albeit very low, of the Crimsons, is fascinating to him, though he won't admit it, as his interest reminds him a little too much of his parents Beastcraft. Given that this comparison would insult riders and dragons alike, it's probably just as well that he keeps his mouth shut.

Primath: Green Primath is... an ambitious Green Queen as she's been called. Small and not particularly sleek, this stocky green almost resembles the build of a Gold. It's something that's always bothered her - the what if. And, even with a terrible memory, it's always this nagging feeling at the back of her mind that irritates this uppity green. As such, she's made it her life's goal to be the first green Wingleader. Granted it's such a lofty goal it's likely to never come true but speak such words in her presence and she'll chase you out. The stationing at Trine came as a surprise, both for her and Hers - they'd been ordered to go. Why, they're not sure, but neither could really complain - the New Weyrs were said to be 'different' in their mentality. She's arrived with little opinion of the Atypicals but her nature is quickly turning that neutrality to jealousy. The Runts and Duds have prestige regardless of size... and she's stuck as a little green in a hierarchy of colour she'd much rather dismantle. Prone to making trouble and quick to lash out, she's a handful and a half but has at least proven reliable enough as a transport.

Art: -None yet.
Miscelany:
-None yet.
Relationships/Wingmates/Weyrmates:
Wingleader: S'raid and Bronze Galvanath:
-S'raid is a smooth, cold individual. He knows the right words to say, and how and when to smile and play nice, but when you get right down to it, the man is just a bit sharding scary. Not many people can tell you to have a nice day and make you feel like you might just wake up on the dinner plate of a hungry Wher, covered in sauce. This doesn't unfortunately stop B'tar from occasionally wandering off one one of his nearly patented tangents, or somehow managing to forget that S'raid is just NOT INTERESTED in philosophical debates regarding the impressions of dragons, something that fascinates B'tar given his own partner, the "Green Queen". That being said, S'raid demonstrates a remarkable level of patience when dealing with B'tars tendency to become distracted by the fascinating, and has developed a better skill at yanking his leash than many have.
Wingmate: K'la of Green Yvoth: An very pretty green rider on a perky pretty green, B'tar would no doubt encourgae his to give chase if he rode an blue, but it doesn't stop him from appreciating K'la anyway, though he doesn't spend the kind of (wasted) time trying to have discussions with her that he wastes on S'raid, or at least not the kind of discussion he annoys S'raid with.
Wingmate: D'vas and Blue Jivith
Wingmate: R'vik of Blue Xalth:
Wingmate: F'itz of Brown Brumath:

Who knows? Things have gotten somewhat...ugly since our arrival at Trine with the healers. Still not sure what they're looking for exactly. Apparently we are, in terms of the mission, highly glorified Runner Beasts. Primath finds this annoying and I agree, though some interesting discussion resulted. Note to self: S'raid still not interested in discussing questions.

Gamma Clutch:
These are absolutely fascinating times: In spite of the remaining tension between Benden and the newer weyrs, the revelation that a single plant has caused so much chaos in the breeding structure is colosal. This could change a significant portion of how the weyr will have to operate, with so much hinging on one difficult to transplant piece of greenery. The question also remains: Will it even take root again once transplanted? How long will it take before the stock of it becomes sufficient to raise the fertility of the queens again, without being re-decimated?
Further interesting is the birth of a Crimson at Benden. Out of a clutch of only nine eggs ((Again, due to this highly significant herb)) this represents yet another shock to the already highly stressed structures in Benden. How many shocks can our Weyr take before something fractures from the blows?
Was also interested to see an green born from an egg that most thought would be blue or brown. HUGE green. Compared with Primath, could possibly indicate further unforeseen surprises in the breeding's, much like breeding two lines of animals or plants, it's sometimes hard to predict when a hidden potential, negative or positive, might crop up
The traits of dragons have been relatively stable for so long, it begs the question if there are other factors, hidden like Mistweed, which are playing in out of our sight.
Fascinating from a purely investigative standpoint.
Primath is unfortunately extremely jealous and annoyed by the little Crimson and is clearly not alone in her upset, though harm coming to this particular subject, even unintentionally, could bring more negative attention on Benden.
((B'tar seems to have placed particular emphasis on how the entire affair is interesting by way of study, and not in any way shape or form interesting in any way that might connect to a knowledge of breeding any other kind of animal. The journal also now shows some slight damage and damp marks. Perhaps Primath bit it in jealousy?))

Crimson Fever:
((A hastilly scribbled note is at the top of one of the pages.))
Must see about speaking to S'raid. Seems the best candidate to go to. Doesn't usually approve of theoretical discussions but he's an observant man and can't be missing this.
He can't be missing this... right?
