Gamma Clutch Hatching!

The Theme is Tropical Reef!

The egg spiral will start from the bottom left and move inward

Flamingo Tongue Snail Egg Green Danath to Talisan
Perhaps not the most stunning of all shells and personalities, there's something about the patience and politeness that exudes from this egg that makes others want to gather around it, even if the egg itself doesn't seem too pleased. Rambunctious action around this egg will results in an unhappy feeling when the shell is touched, though quiet and calm feelings are greeted politely in turn. Size indicates a green.

Eel Egg Green Merenth to Matuathan
There is hardly anything to this egg except for a feeling of extreme possessiveness, as though it is laying claim to all hands that touch it. Repeat touches may change depending on how long one dwells on the shell, rendering feelings such as happiness and even delight at being re-visited. Outright ignoring this egg results in a hostile situation should a hand not come back more than twice, but otherwise the dragon inside seems rather mellow if devotions are paid. Size indicates a green or blue.

Clownfish Egg Blue Ninaeth to Kadayon
Settled in neatly amongst the others, this egg seems to enjoy its position with four others somehow leaning against it. Anyone who touches this egg is greeted with a feeling of contentment, as if the dragon within knows exactly where it wants to be, though there seems to be a little bit of awkwardness too lurking beneath the shell. The size of this egg roughly indicates a green or blue.

Green Sea Turtle Egg Green Halifanth to Eliaza
This egg is a little hard to see since it's half buried in the sand regardless of how often it's dug up. Touching this egg gives off a feeling of, well, silliness - as though the dragonet inside isn't taking things seriously. A second or third touch will yield the same results, though probably a bit more extreme and perhaps even a bit chatty. Size indicates a green.

Majestic Angelfish Egg Crimson Saazeyth - Aislin Pride emanates from this egg like light does from the sun. Whatever the dragon inside is, they've got a strong sense of self and, perhaps, sit on a very high horse. When touched, it's almost as if this egg appraises them and then categorizes them. Size indicates either a large green or a small blue.

Emperor Angelfish Egg Bronze Acricruleth - Antigonos Situated directly in the center of the clutch, as if it pushed itself to be there somehow, this egg is large and vividly marked. Other eggs give it a wide berth, as though they know something, but touching the egg itself gives nothing more than feelings of ambition and power. There are no angry feelings here, but the overwhelming desire from this egg may turn a few hands away. Most certainly a large brown or bronze based on the size.

Nembrotha Kubaryana Egg Green Yanath - Tia
Leaning heavily on the one next to it, this huge egg completely dwarfs its companion in size, though certainly not in attitude. Curious hands will be met with the sensation of domination, though anyone willing to look further may be startled to find a small well of gentleness and shyness that could either be considered a figment of the imagination or a momentary lapse in character. Size indicates either a blue or brown.

Nembrotha Cristata Egg Green Tatath - CanoakeThis egg seems to be standing more upright than its leaning companion, demanding all the attention that can be offered to it as though it is aware of how downright tiny it is. Feelings of superiority as well as pride mix well from beneath this shell, though it would be hard to ignore the sheer amount of vanity this egg possesses. This egg is most certainly a green based on its size, though whatever is inside certainly doesn't seem to think so.

Reef Triggerfish Egg Brown ??? - ???
This egg rests far away from the other eggs in the clutch, enough that it looks completely unnatural. Any attempts by the Queen to roll it back into place result in the egg somehow returning to its former location within a day, as though the dragon inside simply refuses to be around others. Touching the egg gives off an impression of extreme unease, as if some form of judgement is being passed, and further touches yield the same result until finally something akin to calculating emerges. Likely a brown or a bronze, this egg is rather large.

Gold Yirath was sound asleep when her eggs finally decided to move and crack with surprising speed. Startled awake by the sound of scuffing shell on sand, she bugled her discovery loudly even though some of the more sensitive dragons were already humming. Her own summoning roar sent the rest into anxious thrumming.

Everyone knew that no gold awaited them, and with such a small clutch, they could really only hope for browns and bronzes. So as Kestril strode out, pulled from the midst of pouring over reports and reviewing snatched samples, she cast an ambivalent look over the clutch. Neither she nor Yirath were particularly proud of it... and neither, still, felt any need to glance the Weyrleader's way. Sure he was puffed up and proud like a father to be at his wife's delivery but this was new to him... it was hardly new to Kestril who measured the worth of a bronze in the clutch her gold produced. Never mind that their fertility was suffering. It was never Yirath's fault her suitors were flawed.

On the edges of the Sands, attendants were shoving Candidates into their white robes and lining them up, ready to go out. There was no time to be wasted and no mistakes would be brooked - every last one of them could feel the Weyrwoman's gaze upon them.

A decidedly loud pop sounded on the Sands as the first green leg poked through an egg. Yirath rumbled, eyes whirling yellow as she fretted the Candidates would fail to be in place in one time. And if a child of hers failed to impress because of some stupid humans.... another, angrier growl sounded as the yellow gave way to orange.

Kestril set a hand on her dragon's shoulder and silently agreed even as she advised patience - action could be taken swiftly and easily if needed.

"Get going!" The Candidatemaster howled as he finished his usual speech, hearing that pop too. "Go! Hup to it!" The first of the Candidates half jogged out in haste and the ranks were formed quickly after that.

The hatching had begun with a green already trying to pry itself from the apparently stubborn shell, bugling with the effort to right herself. The poor dear had hatched upside down and was halfway stuck in her egg like a kid stuffed in a garbage pail. Cracks were beginning to show on the rest of the egg so it would not be long before this silly green was properly free.

Sileny didn't remember there being this much of a hurry at the last hatching. But, again, she hadn't attended the last hatching as a candidate. She'd only been there to help her foster father deliver wine for the feast to follow. As she rushed to the sands with the other candidates and pulled her white robes on quickly, Sileny reflected briefly on that last hatching, and how offensively pleased her foster father had been to allow her to stay at the Weyr. Had she really been such an awful daughter? She had never thought of herself that way. Maybe the dragons in the eggs would be similarly...repelled? Lukah didn't seem to mind her, but he was something different. The uncharacteristic self-doubt vanished quickly. There would either be a dragon for her or she would return to the Hall and complete her training. She could be content brewing and distilling, though after being around dragons for as long as she had been, it would be a little dull, but at least she wouldn't be required to perform drudge work anymore. Either way, her future wasn't bad.

Beneath her feet the sands were warm, which was both annoying and comforting to the vintner girl. She was able to focus on that, rather than on the annoying cluster of girls forming in her immediate vicinity. She had no patience for most of the other female candidates. The other girl from the hall, Eliaza, annoyed Sil with her presence. She looked resolutely toward the egg which was hatching presently, only belatedly remembering that her green firelizard, Accident, would probably be distressed by all this. She firmly told her to stay in the dormitory.

He'd almost jumped out of his skin when the roar reverberated around the Weyr. The eggs were beginning to crack! As Antigonos hurried down the corridors towards the sands, the humming picked up. It wasn't long before he saw other candidates ahead of him, and the tall harper jogged to catch up with the little knot of excited youngsters. On the edge of the sands, he kicked off his boots and tossed aside his shirt before pulling on the traditional candidate robes, and wriggling out of his trousers. Caught by surprise or no, he wasn't about to go out onto the sands improperly dressed.

By the time he had smoothed himself down and taken a deep breath to steady himself, he could see a green already trying to break free of her shell. Time to move. Without another moment of hesitation, Antigonos strode out onto the sands to take his place among the other male candidates... Humm, where to stand? Not at the back. Not in the middle but... no, not right at the front. Once he was positioned to his satisfaction, he turned to watch the green struggle. Quite an undignified enterance to the world, he hoped this one didn't decide it wanted him.

Tia clenched her teeth and willed herself to deal with the chaos as steadily as possible, though there was an uncomfortable flicker in the pit of her stomach, thinking of stories about maulings on the sands, which concerned her more than the small clutch. The white robes and the heat of the sands made her feel both hot, uncomfortable, and very conspicuous as she followed the candidates onto the sands.

The little upside down green, though, she had to admit, was sort of curiously charming, like any other baby animal, it looked deceptively harmless in it's moment of clumsiness and disorientation, you could almost, almost overlook the claws and teeth.

OK baby, you've got an pretty good selection out here today... please don't maul anyone. She thought, though she didn't expect the dragon to actually hear her, making it more of a vague prayer to whatever vague power might control the sands.

Winderick rushed in a little later than the other candidates. The young silver flit had thrown a temper tantrum when he ran out so quickly after changing into his robes. Squall could be quite demanding when he wanted attention and mistook Winderick's robes for a game of tug-a-war. He needed to be gentle getting them away from the baby flit, which delayed him a bit. Squall made such a noise when he tried to leave alone that it almost broke his heart, but he had to leave him behind. He hoped Squall would stay put. That little flit had a knack for getting into trouble.

He filed in with the other candidates. There were familiar faces everywhere but Winderick's eyes were glued to the clutch and especially the green that was now crawling out of her shell. He remembered the huge green Yvoth, the first dragon he ever saw close up, the one who Searched him, and marveled that something so huge could start out so comparatively small. Even the massive gold had once been an egg. Winderick's heart skipped a beat. Everything was happening so fast, he couldn't remember what to do. Gale mentioned something about attracting the hatchlings with warm, welcoming thoughts. Winderick was too excited to manage.

She wasn't ready. She wasn't nearly ready. Eliaza had just been washing up after oiling up a pair of much-worn and clearly well-loved boots. She'd missed the first shouts of surprised and the initial bustle when people started scrambling for their robes and the sands. She hadn't even had time to braid her hair!

She ran, sandals in hand and the belt for her robe clutched in the other as she tugged it out from under foot so she wouldn't trip and make a fool of herself. She tugged her sandals on, belted her robe more securely -- no point in flapping all around the Hatching, now was there? -- and followed the other candidates out into public sight and onto the heat of the sandy floor.

She managed not to elbow anyone as she put a few quick twists into her hair and at least got it back and out of her face. It'd be a bear to comb later, but she'd manage. She didn't have time to think about it now. Her attention had been stolen by the poor, upside down green. Surely, when she Impressed, her new Weyrling would help her up. Wouldn't they?

Tsubari was adjusting his vest when he heard the humming. SHARDS! He wasn't expecting the hatching right now. He dug through his room for the sandals that should have been right there. He kept digging, finally grabbing them and his white robe and raced out of his room down to the grounds. As he rounded the corner he seen the others and threw his robe over his vest.

As he got to the line with the other males, he noticed that a green was already working its way out. Tsubari jumped from foot to foot as he attempted to put his sandals on. "Sorry, don't mean to bump into anybody." He muttered just in case he did.

Erie woke to a thrumming in her head, bleary eyed for a moment, it took her a minute to register that it wasn't just in her head, it was throughout the Weyr, The eggs were hatching. Rolling over she put her head under her pillow but a hissing from Erisk forced her awake, She yawned widely and stretched "Erisk, it's not like i'm going to miss much, be quiet or i'll leave you chained outside" she threatened when the Wher tried to 'help' idle threats that she'd never dream of and Erisk knew it, the wher liked Tsubari and He was going to stand today.

Dragging herself out of bed and into some (almost) clean clothes, sh made her way to the stands, pushing past some people who were stood in the aisle chatting, or taking bets.. whatever she didn't care she just wanted to sit. "There he is" she grumped watching the lad from her seat, she slumped down just in case he looked over, maybe he wouldn't spot her.

Winderick nearly jumped out of his skin when the clumsy candidate bumped into him. He gawked at Tsubari for an instant and quickly turned back to the sands. That green was still struggling out of her shell. He swallowed dryly and tried not to fidget.

He hated being put through situations where the outcome was completely out of his hands. When he first came to the weyr, he thought that if he worked hard and impressed the Candidatemaster he might improve his odds of getting an egg. That illusion was quickly dispelled. Touching made it all the more clear that the dragonets would judge him based on his intrinsic, unalterable self. At least then he felt like he was doing something productive by exposing himself to the eggs. Winderick liked himself and believed the dragonets liked him, too. But Impression must be more than that. Now there was nothing left to do except wait. It was like watching something you put your heart and soul into fall toward the ground stretched out to infinity. You know you can't catch it in time, all you can do is watch it fall and hope that luck will smile upon you when it hits the ground.

When the remainder of the Green Sea Turtle egg cracked open and the little dragonet managed to get its bearings at last, a boldly patterned green turned big blue eyes on those assembled, regarding them for a moment. Then, with a deliberate step and a pleasant bob of her head, the green plodded towards the girls.

About halfway to their group, she stopped, whuffed and without further ado began digging. No simple scratching at the dirt was this, but a whole-hearted effort as she moved and flicked sand to the sides.

And while she worked, another of the eggs began to wobble and crack, spilling pale and mottled sister out on the the sands. Another green, it seemed! Shaking off pieces of the Flamingo Tongue Snail egg, she tossed her head and lifted her gaze to scan the assembled group. She seemed unconcerned with her sister's digging efforts as her sweeping looks settled on the boys.

Lifting her head high, she began towards them.

Winderick bit his lip as the first green finally broke free from her egg. When she made her way toward the girls he let out a small sigh of relief. He remembered her egg being the ditsy one during Touching and felt a little glad to see her moving away from him. Her digging puzzled him at first but he soon found himself smiling a little at her cute antics. She wasn't a bad little dragon.

His attention turned to the Flamingo Tongue Snail egg as it started to crack. He remembered her from Touching as well and thought she would make a good partner. Winderick held his breath. As she came closer to the boy's group he clenched his fists. Would she choose him?

One for the girls and one for the boys then? That was a definitely interesting start for the Hatching, and the greens looked sort of... cheerful and placid, bobbing along as they searched the candidates, she could almost be tempted to really forget that they could be dangerous as she picked absently at the end of her long braid.

There was a trend she hoped continued. Let there not be any bloodshed in this little clutch.
PostPosted: Fri Oct 01, 2010 5:08 pm

Eliaza's breath caught when the dragonet started toward her side of the arc of candidates, toward the girls in general. Catching a few stares from those around her, she clapped a hand over her mouth and fought down a blush. It was her first time Standing and she'd hoped she wouldn't embarrass herself, but it was all so ... real.

And strange. She lowered her hand when the green started digging, and tilted her head a little. What was she looking for? What could be under the sands that she needed so badly?

Then the second egg cracked open and another dragonet was stumbling toward the boys. She looked for familiar faces, spotted Antigonos, and bit back a wider smile. Not a green for him, she thought.

Kadayon was jerked awake by the gold's loud bellow, almost feeling it more than he heard it. It was frightening, to be woken so suddenly, and the candidate feared that something had gone wrong with the eggs. That changed quickly, however, when he set his feet on the floor and felt it. Humming! There was humming! The dragons were hatching! Scrambling out of his bed, the boy dressed faster than he'd ever dressed before in his life, swiftly yanking his white candidate robes over his head. Of course his speed didn't last very long; Kadayon was distracted by his reflection and the utterly ghastly state of his hair. That got him off the dragon bandwagon faster than he'd hopped on. Muttering curses under his breath he scrambled for his comb, eager to right the wrongs that had been done. Even the Candidatemaster's calls to hurry up couldn't quite pry him away from the mirror. If he dared show his face in front of all of those people he had to look his best.

Finally, finally when he couldn't put it off any longer the boy fixed his robes and left the candidate dorms. He had to run to catch up to the group but it had been worth it. Now he was certain he looked his best and while there had never been any proof that dragons chose candidates for their appearance K'la was enough proof for Kadayon. If his mother could look fabulous and Impress then he was going to do the same. Though he squared his shoulders and kept his chin high, inside the same nerves he'd felt at the Touching wrecked havoc. This wasn't just dragons in eggs anymore; this was real life, small dragons, sending out their little... well, whatever they did to find the mind of a candidate they wanted for a lifemate. It was a do or die situation, and one that Kadayon had absolutely no control over. It was enough to make him feel ill.

In an effort to distract himself from the stumbling greens on the Sands – don't think of Yvoth, don't think of Yvoth – Kadayon made his way over to Winderick, recognizing the boy from the candidate lessons. It took some work but eventually he managed to get in beside the other boy, eyeing him out of the corner of his eye. "Stand taller. You won't attract anything looking like that," the boy hissed under his breath as he folded his arms over his chest. Trust Kadayon to redirect his nerves into snooty comments.
