Character background Name: Folen/F'len Age: 16 Birthing day: Oct 06 (so I know when he ages each turn) Gender: male Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual Craft: Harper - ex-apprentice Rank: weyrling History: Folen is the son of two harpers, Maki and Rianna. His parents gave him a loving, music, filled childhood as he grew up in the harperhall alongside the other harper children where he was fully expected to become an apprentice as soon as he was old enough. There was just one little problem. He has very little musical talent. In fact his singing has been compared to a wounded watchweyr. Some of his peers would laugh and make fun of him because of this but it never dampened his spirit. Folen has a strong sense of self and doesn't care what others think of him. Folen is naturally honest sometimes to the point of bluntness. This makes certain aspects of harper work difficult for him. Being able to lie convincingly is sometimes required in the harper's profession. When he must prevaricate he prefers to withhold information rather than say something that isn't true. Or say part of the truth and let the other person jump to the wrong conclusion. Though he really isn't a fan of deception at all. He can play some instruments, his favorite is a little hand made reed flute. But he is not skilled enough to be more than mundane compared to the many talented apprentices that inhabit the hall. Still he can manage well enough to entertain himself and his friends. Because he comes from a long line of harpers he has no where but the harperhall to go. Every family member he has is part of Harperhall. So in deference to his parents who dearly love him and want him to excel despite his lack of aptitude, the masters of the hall have done their level best by Folen, but its of no use. You can't change a rock into a queen's egg just by wishing or the world would be packed full of flitters. Mostly Folen has done whatever chores or duties are needed around the hall. He is very good at cooking cleaning and mending as a result and can scribe some as well. He also acted as an aid and runner for those masters that do not have a chosen apprentice at the moment. He was happy enough with his life at the hall. His cheerfulness and willingness to do whatever he can to help out has earned him the affection of almost everyone he encounters. He has made many friends in and out of the hall including the blue rider Tethis and Jadamirei a fellow harper apprentice who also spent some time at harper hall. He has never been afraid of hard work. And he realized at a very early age that every little bit of work helps the Harpers do what they need to do no matter how menial it may be. Even so there were times when he yearned to find something that he is truly good at. Something that would inspire and compel him the way music does his parents and their friends. Appearance: Folen is tall and lean with spiky brown hair that always seems mussed, brown eyes and a smattering of freckles on lightly complected face. Personality: Easy going and hard working Folen tends to listen more than he talks. His quietness is born of a yearning to understand the world around him and not of shyness. That makes him a pretty good observer and he has been taught to observe, remember, and make use of what he sees. He is happy to have mastered at least one trick of the trade. Folen is a genuinely happy person that tends to take trouble in his stride. If he has a fault it is perhaps that he tends to take others at their word. He is honest and forthright in his thinking and gives others the benefit of the doubt unless they have proven themselves untrustworthy. Because of this he can sometimes be taken advantage of. He is aware that by taking people at face value he is opening himself up to be hurt. But he would rather be vulnerable and open, than to hide himself away in a shell never to be hurt, but never to experience real happiness either. Also while he tends to keep his opinions to himself the more hidebound at Telgar Weyr might find his attitude towards female riders shocking as Folen is used to having strong and powerful women around him and is very open minded about what a woman can or cannot do. Being as watchful as he is, he is aware of the attitude at Telgar weyr and has no intention of butting heads with long standing tradition. Instead he chooses to support his friends with his actions by behaving the way he feels one should to those around him whatever their sex might be. Folen has a strong sense of responsibility. He tends to be quite serious and when he finds his passion will be very driven. He has a work now, play later attitude. He enjoys himself when he can but not at the cost of getting his work done. This attitude also carries over into his romantic life, which is currently non existent. Folen would rather concentrate on learning all he can to better himself. And it's difficult to do that amid emotional distractions so he tends to stay away from courting any sort of romantic relationship. He is perfectly happy waiting for that sort of companionship until such a time when he has more time to dedicate to it, for he does nothing by halves. If he were to impress he is forward thinking enough to realize that most of his time as a weyrling will be taken up by his dragon and he will have little energy for anything else for some time to come. Dragon Background BLUE SKANANTH Skananth was coloured by Chibi Sheepcat
Personality
Unlike gentle giant Morgath, Skananth doesn't seem to realize just how big he is. Though he'll only grow up to be about an average sized blue, he hatched large, and because of this his rider can expect quite a lot of clumsiness. He just can't seem to keep track of all of his limbs at once, resulting in many stepped on wings and knocked over furniture. Until he learns to keep himself and his tail in check, it would be best to keep all valuables away from him. He doesn't mean to be so clumsy, he really doesn't!
Much like the big dog who grows up thinking he's a lap dog, Skananth wants to be close to his rider no matter how big he gets. For the first few months of his life he'll expect his rider to sleep on his shelf with him, not wanting to be too far away from him/her. Even for a blue, he is a very devoted dragon, both to His and to his Weyr. Family is important to him, which is why he will value the opinion of His and his clutchmates above all others. You want him to work harder in the wing? Skananth can do that! You want him to spend less time bathing? Skananth can do that too! (Though he would be very sad, since he enjoys his time in the water).
Though for the most part he seems to lack any sort of goals or ambitions of his own, when he does find something he wants he refuses to let it go until he has it. He frequently goes overboard or too far with things, often not realizing he's done something wrong or hurtful until it's all over. One of his favourite targets is Erath, who he pesters with an almost childlike glee. He can frequently be found seeing how many times he can poke her with his snout before she turns around and snaps at him. Though he means well – and Erath can certainly stand up for herself - His rider should be careful not to let him get too involved before someone gets hurt.
As far as Flights go, Skananth will chase whenever it suits him. His rider can easily convince him to back down should he/she not wish to participate in a Flight.
Views on Clutchmates: We are family! I got all my sisters and me! Okay, maybe a few brothers in there too, but to Skananth his clutchmates are like his family. He listens to them, he teases them (especially Erath), and he works hard for them whenever they ask it of him. Because of this, he will be perhaps one of the hardest hit when they stop having lessons together and have to be broken up into wings. He likes when they're all together in one little group of weyrlings. - - Why Me?It's lucky that Folen takes trouble in stride, because he's certainly got quite the troublemaker on his hands now! Skananth is a large, wiggly ball of young dragonet that needs a calm hand and a calm mind to keep him under control. Easy-going Folen may have his work cut out for him, but Skananth will always reward his patience and hard work with affection and devotion. The blue chose Folen because of his strong sense of responsibility, a feeling that Skananth shares, especially towards his clutch mates. Both are willing to work hard for what they want, especially if others ask it of them.
Like Folen he is willing to listen to others, especially those close to him, and Skananth will have no trouble accepting his rider's views on all things, especially female riders. He is also willing to stand behind anyone or anything his rider chooses, and as such will be a valuable ally and companion. Both Folen and Skananth must be careful to watch each other, lest one half of the whole dedicate themselves too much to one thing. While Folen may not cause too much trouble, his blue certainly can get himself into some sticky messes (especially with clutchmate Erath) and Folen would be wise to use his own ambitions to curb his dragon's.

Killer Whale

The Killer Whale (Orcinus orca), commonly referred to as the orca and, less commonly, blackfish, is the largest species of the dolphin family. They are found in all of the world's oceans, from the frigid Arctic and Antarctic regions to tropical seas. Killer Whales as a species have a diverse diet, although populations often specialize in particular types of prey. Some feed exclusively on fish, particularly salmon, and other populations hunt marine mammals such as sea lions, seals, walruses and even large whales. As they are known to be predators of large sharks, Killer Whales are regarded as the ocean's apex predator.
There are up to five distinct Killer Whale types distinguished by geographical range, preferred prey items and physical appearance. Some of these may be separate races, subspecies or even species. Killer Whales are highly social; some populations are composed of matrilineal family groups which are the most stable of any animal species. The sophisticated social and vocal behaviour of Killer Whales have been described as manifestations of culture.

Fire Lizards Stripes Stripes is a calm quiet blue who Burnish seems to think is terribly boring. He is gentle and sweet of disposition and seems to like just about everyone he meets. Burnish Burnish hatched from an egg given to Folen by Jadamirei when he was a candidate. Burnish is a vain little bronze who knows just how lovely he is. Because he is self centered he and Stripes do not get along very well. While F'len is very strict with him he is always testing the boundaries. He finds himself being scolded by the two blue's in F'len's life. A fact that aggravates him greatly. He's a bronze why should he have to listen to a blue? However he has not forgotten the time Skananth reminded him that the blue dragon is more than big enough to flatten him should he so chose. He would really rather not be flattened, thank you all the same.

Important Events/memories: [7 turns old] During a gather Folen was asked to play the non singing part of a Lady Holder in a gather pageant because many of the female apprentices had become ill with seasonal ills. He gamely took the part even though he really wasn't what one could call feminine. The Pageant was a success though far more of a comedy than the harpers had first hoped as Folen wasn't the only male to have to take the place of a female apprentice.
[8 turns old] During a gather where Tethis was present visiting her mother Folen was asked to play the non singing part of a Lady Holder in a gather pageant because many of the female apprentices had become ill with seasonal ills. He gamely took the part even though he really wasn't what one could call feminine. The Pageant was a success though far more of a comedy than the harpers had first hoped as Folen wasn't the only male to have to take the place of a female apprentice.
[13 turns old] A green fire lizard lays a clutch in the Harper hall's stew pot and the resulting eggs are presented at dinner since the cooks didn't realize they weren't part of the meal. The eggs were fine though and quite a few of them actually managed to hatch properly.
[14 turns old] Jada, one of Folen's friends buys bubbly pies for all the masters at Harper hall with extra marks she has revived from her parents who often give her much more than she needs. Tethis, Folen and the other apprentices sneak the pies to the masters without the master's noticing. But the fire lizards catch on that there is free pie to be had and eat the feast before the master's get a chance to have even one bite.
[16 turns old] Folen was found on search and brought to Telgar Weyr to stand for impression. Though he missed being searched the first time riders came to search at Harper hall due to the fact that he was busy running an errand for one of the Master harpers at the time.
[One seven day after arriving at Telgar Weyr] Folen meets up with his old friend Jadamirei and offers to help her get some work gloves to save her hands which have become rough due to candidate training.
[Shortly after meeting Jadamirei] Folen takes Jada to see Talior Kita who lives and works at Telgar Weyr in order to procure her new gloves.
[Three days after meeting Jadamirei] Folen manages to get some sewing supplies from the drudges and starts a sewing a regular sewing lesson for those candidates who are interested in learning to sew or merely want to hone their mending skills.
[About a seven day after he met Jadamirei] Jada gave Folen a flitter egg that she had been given by their mutual friend Tethis. Folen begins to incubate the egg.
[A seven day after Jadamirei gave Folen the Fire Lizard egg] The egg hatched revealing a somewhat vain and self important bronze flitter that Folen adores.
[16 turns- Malkai's gold Kaveth's first Telgar clutch] Folen joins the other candidates in the egg touching.
[16 turns- Malkai's gold Kaveth's first Telgar clutch hatches] F'len impresses to blue Skananth.
Real Life dates:
Folen is searched to Telgar Weyr: October 9th 2009 Folen impresses blue Skananth: February 14th 2010Note: I received a flitter from a game and play with him IC but I am not sure where to put him in the time line or how to work him in. He's a blue and Folen would have received him before he got his bronze flitter but after he came to the weyr from Harper Hall.

RP Notes From Infi: The way I'd had Jada and Tethis figured....
Jada visits rarely before she is 11 turns. Maybe once every other turn or so, when her father is at the hall. At 11 turns, she goes to the Hall full time, and apprentices when she's 12.
For Tethis' part, she is there until she's almost 9. She's a bit aways from that when she gets in the fight that "breaks the camel's back" so to speak, and is sent away. After that she visits about once a turn for a sevenday, since she isn't -too- far away, but she's far enough to not be able to easily visit more than that. When she's 14, she's apprenticed to Seacraft Hall, and when she's 15, she's Searched and Impresses Feylith. Feylith is about 3 turns right

Baby steps: An introductory rp "There is just so much to take in." Folen thought as he walked through the winding caverns on his way to find the kitchen memorizing the lay of the weyr. He had never been in a weyr proper, though he had heard many tales and songs of the weyr. Living in the Harper Hall as he did it was unavoidable. Even so he had never really contemplated being here in person. Those few times he had thought of coming to the weyr it was as a traveling Harper and not as a candidate. It just goes to show life could surprise you sometimes. "Well even if I am the hall's worst singer, I will be able to come home with a story to tell this time." Folen smiled to himself. The weyr was every bit as impressive as his parents had promised him it would be. He had of course seen dragons before, but not this close nor in this number. He was very curious about the weyr and how the weyr folk lived. Stories were well and good but seeing things first hand was much more interesting. Reaching the dining hall he stepped inside scanning silently for the candidate's table as he made note of the people there in. Smiling warmly he accepted some food from a druge and giving them a those around him a nod he found a place among the other new arrivals at Telgar Weyr. Content to listen to the low murmur of his fellow candidate's voices Folen proceeded to tuck into his meal.

Folen's portion of the Egg Touching RP Folen approached the Golden Stag egg slowly. Laying a hand on the smooth surface he suddenly found himself smiling though he couldn't have said why. Giving the egg a little nod born of reverence and respect he shifted his attention to the next egg. Touching the Spicy Red egg's bright mottled shell he took a deep breath to still his thoughts and focus only on the egg before him. Opening his eyes he gazed down at the backs of his hands where they were perched on the shell . There was a brusque feeling about this egg, perhaps even irascible though until the dragonett emerged no one would know for certain. Whatever the reason for the emotion, the dragon inside would likely be one to approach with caution. Giving the egg the same bow of recognition he had given the gold stag egg Folen moved on to the third egg. If the second egg had caused some tension within Folen this Three spotted egg drained it right away. There was something quite appealing about this lazy egg that Folen wasn't able to name, but existed all the same. Smiling once more he gave the egg a pat and the bow that had by now become a familiar routine. The pink charcoal egg was next and Folen gently stroked the smooth shell. This egg held an eagerness that was similar to the Spicy Red egg though it seemed to be born more from excitement and anticipation than impatience. Well, he could certainly understand that sort of a feeling. "We can't wait for your hatching day either." he murmured laughingly to the egg. After bowing to the fourth egg Folen nearly passed the Streaked Sky egg up such was the negative emanation from the egg. Bowing to the egg he touched it gingerly they were to touch all the eggs, but he didn't like feeling as if he were forcing his attention on an egg and so swiftly moved on to the next. They Grey Speckled egg was a welcome relief after the adverse reaction of the previous egg and Folen let himself relax into a deeper sense of calm before offering the egg a tender rub and a bow. Strangely Folen found himself at ease despite the overly strong sense of self assurance the Orange Stripe Egg was giving off. He had been judged unworthy before, though he wasn't sure he was being judged so now. Either way, He would deal with this hatching the same way he dealt with previous misjudgments, by moving forward secure in the knowledge that he had is own unique worth even if others sometimes could not see it. He was sure that at some point he would find the one thing he was meant to do and an imperious dragon wasn't going to frighten him away from seeking out every possibility. The new grass egg almost gives off the sense of timidness and Folen whispers soothing nonsense to it before moving on to the next and last egg. The Blue Earth egg wiggles slightly as Folen touches it and he smiles glad he could finish on such a positive note. For he can tell the little one within is quite pleased with itself and the candidates currently gathered around to touch it. All in all it has been a brilliant day. One he won't likely forget. Looking back over the eggs he commits to memory those that seemed negative or hostile. From the stories he's heard of past hatching at Harper Hall it would be a good idea to be watchful.

Impression Dragonriders of Pern Shop
Meanwhile, the Blue Earth Egg began to shake, not quite as energetically as its brother but with a definite rhythm. A wiggle and a jiggle later and the egg cracked, spidery veins running down the side until a blue tail forced its way through. There was a pause there the dragonet seemed to realize he was hatching the wrong way out and the tail disappeared. Moments later, after much shuffling and several squeaks, a nose peeked out of the hole, nostrils flared.
Creeee? said the baby dragon, taking several deep breaths through his nose. Then, he wiggled his face and scrabbled around until the egg broke, leaving him with several pieces still stuck to him. A blue, and a large on at that, staggered to his feet, clearly very excited to be out of his shell. He made to bound enthusiastically towards the male candidates, however his foot caught on his wing and he went tumbling down the sands, barreling straight into the first row of male candidates.
Oops. Foalen Jumping back to avoid the bronze dragonet Folen having assumed the blue being of a gentler disposition than his brother would be less of a danger found himself flying through the air to land firmly on his rear. Not wanting to linger on the sands with an angry dragonet prowling about he quickly scampered up and back into place dusting himself off and flushing slightly in embarrassment. He would not be so quick to discount any dragon in the future weather even tempered or not. Dragonriders of Pern Shop The blue creeled and flailed, desperately trying to roll himself over so he could stand. His size seemed to be proving to be quite the challenge, however. Wings, tail, and limbs all got in his way and it took him several tries before he finally got himself up into a sitting position. Even then, his trials were not over. One wing was still caught underneath his hind leg and he turned to give it a dark look.
Momentarily distracted from his earlier pursuits, his eyes became slightly tinged with yellow as he gave his wing several more tugs but to no avail. He just couldn't get it loose! The blue turned his whirling eyes on the crowd of boys, before they landed on his slightly flushed rider. He had embarrassed his? Oh but he hadn't meant to!
FolenMine I am sorry! I did not mean to knock you over! A teal-y blue dominated the dragonet's eyes as he gazed fondly at His. Could you help your Skananth, please? I cannot seem to get up... Foalen Blinking over at the large blue Folen found himself moving to help the dragonet before he even realized he was moving. "You certainly have gotten yourself into a muddle. But don't worry," Bending down Folen carefully shifted the tangled limbs. "none of the candidates were harmed at all. and we'll soon have you righted. There that must feel better." "It does! Oh thank you folenmine thank you." Freed from his entrapment the blue bounced up nearly knocking his rider over once more. Foalen was ready this time however and managed to compensate for the sudden chest rubbing he received. "Come on you lets get you fed and clear the sands for your siblings." "Food! Yes. You are ever so clever. I think I would like food right now." Skananth swung his head around looking for the food tables nearly taking out several candidates as he did so. "Gently does it Skananth. Now follow me." Folen admonished leading the blue over to where the meat was being offered.

A bronze arrives!: A flitter hatching Folen sat near the edge of the fire with the pot of warming sand next to him. Stripes looked on the scene from his perch upon the young man's shoulder crooning softly to the egg in the pot. It seemed to take forever for the crack to form on the surface of the egg. Slowly it widened itself as if the fire lizard inside could not be bothered to move any faster.
It was frustrating waiting but Folen knew he had to wait for the flitter to emerge on his own. Fire lizards weren't that different from dragons and he wanted this one to start off on the right foot.
After so much silence suddenly there was sound and the egg rocked violently as a wing popped out of the crack followed shortly by a dark wet brownish gold head. Bronze maybe? Folen wondered as he tried to puzzle out the color of the hatching flitter.
The newborn creeled not liking the position he was in and shoved against the egg causing himself to spill out into Folen's waiting hands.
Stripes hopped down to give the newcomer a welcome. The hatching ignored the blue as the small chunks of meat the boy was offering were much more interesting. He ate them as fast as Folen could feed them to him but annoyingly Folen was only giving them to him one small piece at a time. It was not enough. He was hungry! His eyes whirled slightly orangeish as he sent his hunger to the boy, but it was of no use.
The boy only shook his head. "You need to eat slowly or you will choke"
'hummmph' The flitter sniffed turning away from the boy. Just by chance his eyes happened over the lovely full bowl of meat next to the boy. 'Mine" he thought to himself and dove at the bowl head first.
Folen was understandably surprised by the hatchling's reaction. Stripes had been far more mellow as a hatchling than this fellow was. But perhaps that was because it was a bronze. Still he managed to pull the bowl away before the flitter had a chance to gorge itself. "Now we will have none of that." He admonished putting the bowl between his legs where the hatchling couldn't get to it and taking one piece of meat he offering it to the bronze. "One piece at a time."
Sniffing again the bronze looked at where the bowl had been and then up at the meat. He did not want to eat slowly as this creature wanted him too. But eventually his hunger won out and he took the meat from the boy even if it seemed to take a long time.
Stripes having been completely ignored by the bronze during this exchange decided to resume his place on Folen's shoulder and watch the little one's antics. He didn't like that way the hatching was behaving. The blue nodded to himself deciding the bronze would bear watching.
