It was Throth, the Weyrlingmaster's blue, who had woken the newly Impressed riders the morning after the Hatching. Beside his rider's booming voice, the blue seemed entirely too softly spoken, but he made sure that the message got delivered to each and every dragon. They were to arrive in the Weyrling classroom early. Breakfast would be provided for everyone. Try not to be late, but lateness for the first class would be acceptable.
J'ev had gotten up in the wee hours of the morning to make sure his newest batch of Weyrlings was well provided for. He'd rearranged the classroom so that the desks formed a semi-circle, leaving himself a chair in front of his 'audience.' Along the left wall he'd had the kitchen staff set up a long table, which now held steaming plates of foods, from freshly baked bread and jam to a small plate of meat rolls. J'ev had found that nothing got a Weyrling out of bed faster than the mention of food, and it was just one of the ways he'd learned to keep his charges coming to lessons.
Thankfully for those who had weak stomachs, the two wherry carcasses he'd asked Throth to kill were covered and just outside the classroom door. A stack of wooden buckets not unlike the ones at the feast were stacked near the covered table and the handles of several knives were visible beneath the covering. They would be brought in when that lesson began. Inside the classroom in the front corner sat a large jug – presumably full of oil – and another collection of smaller buckets.
The room was sparsely decorated, but those with a keen eye may have noticed a line of dragon figurines the size of a hardcover book on a long shelf along the back wall. Had anyone looked closer, they would have seen the Turn date written on the front, and the names of all the riders in that year's graduating class carved into the dragon. Only one dragon was left untouched, presumably for their group. The front of the classroom had a slate chalkboard which had the worlds "WELCOME WEYRLINGS!" written in white chalk. In front of the chalkboard sat a rickety looking desk, with a few hides unrolled on it.
The Weyrlingmaster himself was waiting for them at the entrance of the classroom, a bright grin on his face.
"Come on in and take a seat! I promise I don't bite!"
~
OOC NOTES: - This takes place the day after the Hatching Feast. The Weyrlings had the day off after they Impressed, and would have spent the night in their assigned bunks. - The room is big enough to support young dragons and their riders. It has one door only, and can be accessed from the ground floor so to speak – that is to say, it's on the same level as the Weyrbowl. - If you start something that is going to cause a disruption in the lesson/make trouble/get your character in trouble/basically anything that would require J'ev's intervention you get 2 posts and then you have to wait. For example:
L'ulz sticks out his foot and trips R'ofl. (Post 1 for player 1) R'ofl responds by calling L'ulz a dimglow. (Post 1 for player 2) L'ulz responds by going off on R'ofl. (Post 2 for player 1) <- PLAYER ONE MUST STOP POSTING NOW Player two then has one more post for R'ofl before they too must stop posting. Other people may join in. Players 3, 4, and 5 can definitely get involved with this fight, but Player 1 and 2 are prevented from posting again because they've used their two posts.
If player 1 were to, for example, keep posting until it eventually turned into a classroom brawl before I get a chance to post with J'ev then I will retcon until the second post by player 1 and just delete everybody's posts from there. I do not want to have to do this, but we had this problem last lesson so please remember that J'ev is not going to sit there and let things spiral out of hand for 15 posts. You will get one freebie because this is a new system and I'm not going to nail you the first time. If you have any questions please, please ask. Asking is better than just doing. Once J'ev has reacted, you are free to post again as normal.

Cass sat bolt upright in bed as J'ev's voice echoed through the barracks, and looked around in confusion for a few moments before she remembered what was going on. It was the day after the hatching feast, she was in the Weyrling Barracks, and Vespereth was just stirring to wakefulness, yawning widely. The little blond woman stared for a long moment at her lovely little green, and then pinched herself, wincing at the sharp pain. Nope! She definitely wasn't dreaming!
A broad, almost obscenely cheerful smile on her face considering the hour, Cass jumped readily from bed, shoving her feet into her petite wherhide boots and turning on heel to straighten out her sleeping furs. She had always been a light sleeper, and getting up at early hours had never been hard for her, even after a late night like the one she had had last night. It was a useful habit she had built up over the years of working as a baker in the kitchens.
'Come along dear one, didn't you hear? We have classes!' She called to her lifemate as she twitched the last fur into place and grabbed up her clothes for the day and ran to the changing room, giving Vespereth a pat as she passed.
'Will there be food?' Vespereth asked plaintively as she rose from her bed of straw and stretched, yawning again.
'Yes, so lets make sure we're first there to give you the best bits, hm?' Cass said as she stripped off her sleeping clothes and pulled on her day clothes. She had been about to grab one of her cute skirts, but had decided to go for breeches instead. After all, if she remembered correctly, they'd be learning how to cut meat for Their's themselves today, and it wouldn't do to get any of her nice clothes all bloody. She sighed as she tugged on the rather boring looking pants and a nice tunic over that. Even if they were going to be cutting up meat today, she still wanted to look nice for her first class. A few finishing touches and she was ready to go, and the others had barely stirred from their bunks!
'Come on, Cassmine!' Vespereth said, prancing eagerly in place, eyes whirling blue with a tinge of red of hunger. Cass felt her own stomach cramp slightly at the overwhelming sensation, and she wondered if it was all Vespereth's, or some of her own hunger as well. probably.
'Alright, lets go!' Cass said to hers as she grabbed up her knife and stuck it on her belt. No doubt she'd be needing that too. She smiled at hers, and the green butted her lightly with affection, but also to hurry her along. Cass stifled a giggle and hurried out the door and into the early morning sunshine.
It was a chilly morning, but she hurried across the bowl and into the weyrling classroom before she was too cold. Her dark eyes were wide as she paused in the doorway, and was greeted by J'ev.
"Good morning, J'ev sir!" she said with a chipper grin and a slight bow as she entered.
Vespereth bobbed her head to the rider as well and said 'Good morning, Throth! Tell yours I say good morning to him too! Now when is it time to eat?'

K'lar woke to the sound of the Weyr waking and he stretched under his furs, moaning at the thought of getting up. But then he felt the presence of his dragon as she woke, and he slid from his bed, peering up at her whirling blue eyes.
"I'm itchy," she told him, her hind foot scratching idly at her flank as she stretched as well, wings spreading wide for being so small. "And hungry, mine. Can we eat? Throth says we have to get up anyway."
He dressed quickly, scratching under her chin before pulling on his tunic. "Yes, love. Food will be soon. Especially if Throth is calling us to lessons." He ran a hand through his sleep mussed hair, but as always, it looked pretty much the same as it always did; handsomely tousled. Still sleep-eyed, K'lar led his dragon to the classroom, Tatleth wide-eyed and bushy, and he knew that he would have to start becoming a morning person.
"G'mornin, Master J'ev," K'lar mumbled, dipping his head slightly as he walked past the other man, the scent of food tantalizing him. He called to his suddenly chirping Tatleth, for she had caught the scent of the wherry carcasses, and motioned her back to his side.
"K'larmine, that smells so good. Do we get that??"

Wake up, Mine! It is time for our first lesson, and we must be there first! And in case that hadn't been enough to get him awake, Pipith had shoved him halfway off his bed. He'd been trying to roust his rider even a little before Throth had told them to get up, but Set'al had refused to budge. He really had some work to do with this one!
Set'al had grumbled and stalled a little in retaliation, but before too long - still not fast enough for Pipith! - the bronze and his rider entered the Weyrling classroom just behind the two greens. Pipith was disappointed that they weren't first, but at least they'd beaten his male clutchmates! Set'al would have been in for a real lecture if they hadn't gotten there before Morgath and Akerth.
Next time, he declared, We will be the very first. I don't want to be behind anyone again!
Yeah, sure, whatever, Set'al responded with a sigh. He didn't like being rushed, especially out of bed! Still, as they shuffled into the room, he managed a relatively cheerful, "Good morning!" to the Weyrlingmaster and two greenriders.
At least there was food.

Cass turned as she heard one of her fellow weyrlings enter and smiled when she recognized who it was "Morning K'lar!" She said with a bright smile. She'd only talked to him briefly the previous day at the hatching feast, but she was glad to see someone she recognized. She hadn't had a chance to go around and meet all of her fellow weyrlings yet, though she'd managed to have conversations with a few of them. She could recognize all of them by sight since they'd had candidate classes together, but she hadn't connected names to all the faces yet. "Did you and Tatleth sleep well?" she asked.
Vespereth turned as two more of he clutchmates entered the room, and called out to her fellow green 'Morning Tatleth!' she crooned cheerfully, though her tummy was still rumbling. She was rather decidedly ignoring Pipith though, and did not bother to greet him. She butted the other green fondly 'Are you hungry too? I'm staaaarved!' she complained, turning her increasingly red eyes to the covered wherry carcases.
Cass turned and saw another weyrling enter, and surprisngly, didn't recognize this one at all. She remembered the dragonet though, the bronze that had gone into the stands and hurt that woman...oh, of course! He was the one stands impression! The eager, petite blond woman waved the new boy over, smiling in a welcoming fashion.
"Good morning! I don't think we've met. I'm Cass, rider of green Vespereth." she said with a proud smile.

Y'ul probably would have been the last one to the Weyrling lessons if she had let Erath have her way, the Green outright refusing to move from the ledge she had settled on to sleep. Her mind was hazy even with the prompt from the Weyrlingmaster's Blue and Y'ul pushing her heavily, the only response she gave was a huff and a motion to roll back over and simply ignore everything. She would have gotten away with it too if Y'ul hadn't grabbed her by the tail and gave a massive tug, nearly yanking her from where she lay, and the Green's eyes roared open and red as she spun her head towards her Rider.
"If you don't like it, then learn to get up. If you were hoping I'd carry you the lesson then you're sadly mistaken, as I told you yesterday how I felt about it all. I am not your mother, I am your partner, and I am not going to do things for you when you are more than capable."
Y'ul was getting dressed as she spoke, the familiar yards of cloth being wrapped tightly about her torso. She was pulling them extra snug today, to be sure nothing happened while working, and her face looked more somber than usual. At the head of her bed Song dozed without waking, and the woman let her stay that way.
You seem agitated. I'm up, aren't I?
"It's not that, just hurry and stay at my side. We need to get moving, we're behind everyone else and I know they won't start without us, but it looks poor in my way to be a female rider who comes in late. Makes it seem like I don't care."
Do you care?
Erath's question was honest and it caught Y'ul slightly off guard, causing her to grin once she came to understand just what her dragon meant. Erath didn't care, she'd picked her after all, so Y'ul would just have to continue living now in the Weyr the same way she always had. She gave a last tug to the wraps about her chest and pulled her shirt over her head, heading out towards the classroom. Erath trotted beside her, clearly still wanting to go back to sleep, yet she kept up with no problem as the pair finally arrived where the others were.
Neither dragon nor rider many any effort to greet the others, instead they simply took a spot away from where the others had gathered in the circle of desks. Erath sat on her haunches to Y'ul's right, her head on the girl's lap.

Morgath had heard Throth's announcement and stretched his wings out to their full length as he rose to his feet, shaking himself once he was completely up. ' Va'enMine, we are being called to class. J'ev's Throth called out to us. There will be food, yes? I'm rather hungry.'
Va'en twitched awake at Morgath's rousing him. He sniffed and rolled over onto his feet, giving a big stretch. It took but a moment for the fog of sleepiness to snap away leaving the weyrling awake and aware. "Ah, class today," he chimed brightly, already pulling on his clothes and gathering what he would be needing. He never had trouble getting up early, even as a young boy. Once dressed, he straightened up his bed before sitting on it to pull on his boots. Finishing up with his short morning routine, he hopped up from his bed, double checked he had everything, then looked to his life mate with a smile. 'Yes. There will be plenty of food. Let's be sure to get there soon so we can get a good seat and get you fed. Hm?' He swept a hand in the direction of out and smiled. "Come on. Let's go." He was met with blue swirling eyes, an occasional flash of hungry red fleetingly mixing with his usual blue. The bronze strode up to His and nudged him in return, feeling excited and hungry. Va'en stomach growled which caused him to chuckle. "Okay. I get it, I get it. Food soon." He turned and headed out, jogging to the weyrling classroom. He didn't mind the cold morning air. That wasn't the main reason why he was jogging. He was excited to get started.
Morgath trotted along side His, wondering who would be there when they arrive.
The pair entered the classroom, giving a quick look around as for who had arrived before greeting the Weyrlingmaster and Throth. "Hello and good morning, sir," Va'en said with a smile and a dip of his head. Turning into the class, he took a deep breath and sighed. His stomach growled again at Morgath's sniffing.
The bronze offered Throth a polite, short greeting before moving along side His, sniffing the air, causing his eyes to swirl red and blue in almost even measure. 'Good morning, everyone,' He called to those who had arrived before him, making a general beeline for Vespereth and Tatleth, giving a bit of a look to Pipeth on his way. Nothing overtly threatening or anything, just a subtle warning.
Va'en waved to his fellow weyrlings, or at least the ones there currently. "Mornin', everybody. Raring to go?" He clapped his hands together and rubbed his palms against each other, offering a smile. His hair still had that slept-in look, but he other wise looked presentable. Va'en was still getting used to his somewhat shaggier hair, being accustomed to having his hair normally cut close to his head and it not needing more than a brushing over with his hand. His hair was, at present, stuck out in all directions from his rolling, tossing, and turning while he slept.

Set'al was glad to be welcomed by Vespereth's, and approached with a smile when beckoned. "I'm Set'al," he responded, hesitating slightly over the introduction but following her lead, "Rider of bronze Pipith."
Pipith, meanwhile, was busy pretending to ignore Morgath, and chided Set'al when he returned Va'en's wave. Don't pay attention to Morgath or His. They are not important!
That would be rude! Just because he's bigger and you don't like it doesn't mean I can't be civil. And you ought to say hi to one of the greens, at least.
There is no one here I wish to greet, he responded. We are not here to be social, Mine. We are here to learn, and you are already behind everyone else!
Yeah, but the lesson hasn't started yet, Pipith.
You must be ready, though. We will do everything he asks, and we will do it better than everyone else, do you understand? We can't let Morgath and His be the best. Although they did have a head start, so far - they'd gotten here before the other bronze! Now they had to keep their lead.
Oh, come on! It's just lessons. Can't we just sit and learn?
No. Unless that is all he wants, then we will do that best.

Were the decision Akerth's alone, T'rus would have been the last weyrling to arrive. The Brown woke promptly when Throth called, but refused to rush as his rider was inclined to do. T'rus dressed quickly, not quite throwing things on, but focusing more on function than form for the time being. For simply getting ready, he was one of the first weyrlings prepared.
But Akerth, Akerth refused to budge.
"You don't want to be late to lessons. We need to show that we're dependable." T'rus urged, giving the dragon a rough insistent push that the large Brown successfully ignored.
I must make sure that my clutchmates do not shirk their lessons.
T'rus hesitated at that, considering the logic of what the dragon was saying. It made sense, but warred with his own knowledge that the needed to make a good impression on J'ev. They had not pleased him with their actions on their hatchings.
He knelt, then, looking his lifemate in the eye. Listen to me. You're right. We should wait to make sure that no one is late. But we-- we can't lead simply by right. Morgath is larger than you, and a bronze. There was regret there, but not so much as he had thought he'd feel.
Morgath cares more for his greens than he does for leading. Akerth's response when he spoke of the Bronze was the same mixture of affectionate disgust that often colored his tone when he referenced his clutchmates.
You know that. J'ev does not. Throth does not. The others do not. What you want, we must earn. And J'ev's regard comes first. He will not be pleased if we are late. He stroked the dragon's headknobs as he explained, his words full of quiet urgency.
Akerth's rumble was not a happy one, but he rose to his feet and followed T'rus to where the others were gathering. They picked a seat in the middle of the semi-circle, so that the others would be divided on either side of them.
"Good morning, Weyrlingmaster." T'rus gave a respectful bow before sitting, then turned his usual slightly lazy grin on the larger group of weyrlings. "Good morning, everyone." And turning to Y'ul who sat apart, "Y'ul."

Y'ul looked over from where she sat in her silence, her eyes unfocused on anything until they fell on T'rus and his dragon, her lips moving from their neutral frown to a flicker of a smirk. It was the most of a greeting he'd get out of her for now, as she was starting to feel the waves of emotion from the dragon at her side. Erath was acting like a miniature broadcast system tuned only to Y'ul's channel, making sure specific ideas hit home.
Erath was tired, and she was hungry. She'd prefer to sleep if she could, right as soon as her belly was full and the minor itch she was feeling right between her shoulder blades went away. Other then that there wasn't much else she wanted, she was pretty content to keep her head on Y'ul's leg and not chat away with her clutchmates. Y'ul wanted to smack the Green's jaw off her leg and tell her to back off, but she supposed hitting a dragon - even one's own - would probably not be the best thing to do. Ever.
She settled for looking down and laying a hand atop her dragon's head, focusing her disapproving thoughts of whining the best she could at the little beast. She was well aware of all of that, her body having sympathy symptoms to the point her back itched in nearly the same spot, but there wasn't much she could do it about. They would have to wait for everyone else to get started, or else nothing would move on. J'ev had to take the lead.
Then make him start talking. I'm starting to feel hunger and soon I may be reduced to acting like the rest of them over there, despite how much energy that takes and how little I have to spare without my nap.
". . . just shut up."

K'lar blinked in Cass' direction, surprised how someone could be so......cheerful.....this early in the morning. Stifling a yawn, he waved at her, and realized he'd have to 'wake up' fully pretty quickly. "Mornin, Cass. Sleep well? Like a rock, pretty much. How about you?"
Plopping into a seat, he watched Tatleth headbutt Vespereth's shoulder fondly in return, before she started scratching the same itchy flank as earlier. K'lar thought she looked rather adorable standing on three feet as she mind-spoke her clutchmate.
"Me too!!!" she said with a loud grumble before her vocal cords went back to emitting her excited chirps as more and more of her clutchmates arrived. "I'm starving. And itchy. Are you itchy, Vespereth? It's only this...." and she scratched it again for good measure with her hind foot, "spot, but it's very annoying. Morgath! And Akerth! Erath and Pipith too! Morning, my siblings!!!" she yelled out to them all, and K'lar was pretty sure the whole Weyr heard his beloved. She intercepted Morgath's beeline, headbutting him affectionately as well.
Wincing, but with a fond smile for his beautiful dragon, he greeted each new rider as they entered. "Mornin, Set'al, Va'en, Y'ul, and T'rus. Hope you all slept well."
Now that he had been moving and talking, his cheerful demeanor had returned and he offered them all a wide grin, turquoise eyes sparkling merrily.

'Morrrning!'Skananth chirped as he leaped up from his side of the couch to land full force on his unsuspecting and still drowsy rider forcing young man's breath out of his lungs in a great wooh. The rather noisy inhalation that resulted from the blue's wake up call set the little dragon's eyes spinning with worry. 'Oh mine! Are you all right? Have I hurt you?' He asked anxiously pressing his head against F'len's.
F'len would have laughed if he had any air to laugh with, instead he gently but firmly removed the dragon from his chest so he could breath properly again. 'I'm fine,' He thought at his lifemate, "just a little winded. Your heavier than you look."
Calming visibly Skananth warbled happily. 'Good, I am glad you are all right. We have to go. Throth says it's time for class now. There is to be much food and the others will be there too.' The young dragon bounced enthusiastically on the dragon couch as he watched his rider dress quickly.
F'len turned to the blue running a final hand though his hair. He could hear the other weyrling bustling and it was time to be on their way. The look was all Skananth needed. He jumped off the edge of the couch in a quick burst of energy. F'len held out a hand uselessly as he called for the dragon to wait and take the ledge more slowly.
Even so the handsome blue looked quite graceful for the few seconds he was in the air wings held close to his body as he held his head proudly. It was when he reached the ground that there were problems. He hadn't been able to gather himself in the air properly and so was not able to balance properly when he came down heavily on his front legs. They buckled beneath him and he found himself rolling onto his back wings all akimbo.
F'len shook his head as he checked Skananth for any visible hurts knowing he wouldn't find any as he could feel the blue was more embarrassed about his fall than anything else. "All right Skan, up on your feet again." he smiled warmly as he helped the dragon up. "The others will be waiting for us. We shouldn't keep them."
Skananth brightened his fall all but forgotten. 'The others! Yes lets go!' He replied turning toward the door gathering himself for another bound when F'len's hand came to rest on the apex of his neck.
"Slowly. We will get there, but I'd rather we were in one piece when we arrive." F'len chuckled rubbing the soft hide of Skananth's neck.
'But we are in at least two pieces.' Skananth wondered to himself.
"It's just a figure of speech. It means we want to get to lessons without getting hurt first."
'Ohhh, that's a good idea!' The young dragon agreed before warbling a greeting to his cluchmates as the entered they classroom.
F'len nodded respectfully to J'ev and his dragon as he and Skananth moved to join the others.

"Glad to meet you, Set'al." Cass said, cheerful and welcoming as she brushed a few stray strands of her blond hair from her large dark eyes. Turning back to K'lar she grinned and said "I slept like a rock myself." she said with a laugh "Keeping up with this little one is hard work." Cass scratched at Vespereth's eye ridge as the small green butted at her hand, crooning fondly at her rider before turning her attention back to her clutch sibs.
'I'm itchy too!' Vespereth admitted to Tatleth with a mental grimace 'Cassmine says not to scratch though or it will make my hide flakier.' she rumbled unhappily, clearly fighting the urge to sit down and go to town with he claws on the dry patches of skin. Luckily, she was distracted when morgath came in and made a bee-line for her and Tatleth. 'Morgath!' she said brightly as she bounded to meet him, butting him affectionately and nipped at him in a playful manner. 'You must have yours sit by Mine!' she said 'That way we can sit together!'
Cass turned when she saw the large bronze enter and smiled as Va'en approached her and the other weyrlings standing around the room, waiting for things to start. "Morning Va'en. Slept well I hope?"

Va'en offered a friendly smile to Set'al and a nod before folding his arms around his waist. "How are you doing? Ready to get started? I know I am." He asked the other bronze rider with a deep, sighing breath as he looked around the classroom at the semi-circle of desks.
'Good morning, Tatleth.' Morgath had no words for Pipith at present, so he gave gave him a pointed stare before turning his attention to her came to meet him. He flapped his wings and returned her affectionate headbutt. 'How are you, my sister? Ready for today?'
He turned his attention at those gathered. "Hey and good morning, folks. I definitely slept well. Like a log. Heh. Did y'all? How is everyone?" He unfolded his arms and stretched, then drop one of his arms, the other drifting to attempt to smooth his rumpled bed head. He turned his head at seeing F'len and Skananth on their way over. "Hey there, F'len." Va'en called to him with a bit of a wave of his hand. Now fully awake, his mossy green gray eyes lit up at the prospect of lessons and from being around the other weyrlings.
Morgath then looked to Vespereth as she came over to him too. He gave a deep hoot at her headbutt and playful n**. He nosed both of his sisters fondly, playfully puffing a breath at Vespereth. 'Hello to you too, Vespereth. Are you well?' The bronze gave a bit of a chirp. 'I'll be sure to tell him so. Let's pick our places that way they have to come sit with us. Or we could ask, I suppose.' He rumbled thoughtfully.
Before he got a chance to offer the suggestion of His, Va'en had spoken to him first. 'While it is good you are getting along so well with your clutchsisters there, do be sure to greet your brothers too. At least a good morning and how are you. Y'all will be growing and working together, okay, Morgath?'
'Alright, Va'enMine, I'll say hello. Could we sit next to Vespereth and HerCass? I'd like to.'
'So long as you don't get too distracted, sure.'
The bronze beat his wings again, his eyes swirling blue. The hungry red disappearing for the time being. 'Thank you, Mine! I'll work as hard as you, paying attention and learning. Don't you worry.' Morgath tuned to Vespereth. 'Mine says its okay. We can sit together.' He looked to Tatleth, his tail swishing behind him. 'You and Yours can sit next to me and Mine on the other side, if you'd like too, Tatleth. You'd be welcome.' Morgath gave a short moment to do as His asked and greeted his brothers.
'G'morning, Skananth.' He began relatively brightly. 'Did you and Yours sleep well? I bet this will be a nice class, don't you?' His somewhat bright tone diminished a degree to something more formal and relatively polite when addressing Akerth and Pipith. 'Good morning, Akerth. How are you and Yours? I am looking forward to seeing what there is to be learned today. How about you?' He cast a glance over to Pipith. 'And hello to you as well, Pipith. I trust you and Yours are doing well? I look forward to the lesson today, don't you? I'm sure it will be interesting.'
With that taken care of he looked to Va'en standing with the other riders. 'There. I have greeted those brothers of mine who are presently here. Better?'
Va'en glanced to where Morgath was, a sister to each side. He smiled and nodded. 'Yes. That's all I was asking. Thank you, Morgath.'

The Weyrlings are arriving. They are on time too. I think it must be a miracle, Throth said idly, the blue watching from outside the classroom as the dragonets and their riders gathered.
"Aye. There's a good feel to this clutch, I just know it." J'ev grinned up at his dragon, before turning his attention to his newest charges. Every Jr. Weyrling received a greeting of their own and the occasional slap to the shoulder whenever the old man was feeling especially chipper. Mentally, he was counting, and placing dragons with faces. Some he knew well, others he'd only seen briefly at the Hatching Feast. He would have to get everyone to introduce themselves, both those he recognized and those he did not, as the majority of the room would have shortened their name.
Glancing up at Throth, who responded with a short nod, the Weyrlingmaster turned to his class and clapped his hands twice. "Alright lads and lasses! Looks like we got just about everybody. We'll just get settled while we wait for the stragglers to come. Grab a plate of breakfast, take a seat and let's get started!" He waited until the room had settled before sitting down on the edge of the desk. "I'm Weyrlingmaster J'ev, rider of blue Throth. Ye've probably seen the boy hanging around outside. Starting with you there-" he pointed towards the closest Weyrling to his right "-let's here yer name and yer dragon's name just so's were all acquainted."
Only once everyone had said their name did he begin the lesson. "Now, we got three things to cover today." Holding up three fingers, he began to tick them off as he went down the list, "Feedin', oilin', and rules. We'll get that last one done first because it's the one nobody likes to listen to, but it's the most important. As we go along, ye can ask me any questions ye like, but I hope to answer most of them in the lesson content. But if ye need extra help or ye don't understand something, just give a shout! I'll do my best to answer any questions ye might have."
J'ev hopped to his feet and headed to the chalkboard, cleaning it off with a spare rag. "Now, many of ye have been to the candidate lessons, but that doesn't mean ye can not pay attention to the rules. First off: yer dragon is yer lifemate. Their needs come before yers. After yesterday, I'm sure many of ye are gettin' used to having someone else in yer head. That's natural, but it won't always be like that. Right now the bond is new and fresh, which means yer pretty much going to be sharing everything between the pair of ye. It's because of this that we get our main rules." He paused to write the words 'no fighting, no drinking, no sex' on the board beside the number 1.
"Imagine sleepin' and suddenly getting this rush of emotion. Anger. Fear. Imagine feelin' like the floor beneath yer feet is disappearing right before yer eyes, or ye can't remember who ye are or where yer supposed to be. Ye'd probably panic or become frightened, yeah? Well that's what ye'd be doing to yer dragon. Ye know what to expect from drinking, and some of ye I'd imagine from sex, but to bombard yer dragon, who has no idea what to do, is just downright cruel. So, until yer dragon is more mature, there'll be no drinking, no fighting, and no sex."
He underlined the words on the board and then turned to the class. "Does anyone have any questions so far?"
