Oh No You Didn't
Kait was on the verge of pulling her hair out. Between the upset screaming of Hunter, Riina’s constant pleas for her attention and trying to prepare for a trip to the store she was fighting a losing battle trying to hear herself think. Taking a few steadying deep breaths she smiled down at Riina as she picked Hunter up, settling him on her hip and reaching for his cup of juice. ”Yes Riina?” The little witchling danced around her mother happily. ”Can we get mor’ shuwgar?” Kait sighed and shook her head to herself. Ever since Riina had discovered her talent, it had been impossible to keep sugar in the house.
Kait sat helping her daughter make small gifts for her friends. The young woman had to admit that Riina was creative. Each piece was different, made specifically for each child with as much tenderness and love as the witchling could give. Each piece was spun in delicate and intricate patterns, looking much better than the sugar curtains that had been Riina’s first attempt. Still, as a reminder to watch her children more carefully Kait kept them hanging in the den.
Sally. Eli. Jack. Abby. Riina counted them off in her head as she delivered each Halloween gift. All that was left was to deliver her best friends gift. She had worked extra hard on it, putting all of her energy into making it perfect. With a secretive and excited smile she handed it to Chrissy. ”Happy Hawoween Cwissy. I made you gift special!” The girl smiled and opened the gift. Inside was a beautiful dress, complete with matching gloves. ”Is pwetty. Tank you Riina!”
Riina pranced down the hallway her eyes alight with excitement. Today was Halloween and mommy had promised to take her trick or treating after dinner. But first…preschool. A lot of her friends were wearing the gifts that she had made, which thrilled her. She had put lot of time and thought into each gift and she was happy they all liked them. As she rounded the corner she saw Chrissy. Her voice floated down the hall and what Riina heard made her stop dead in her tracks. “….stupidest gifts ever. Riina is so siwwy. She even believe I like her dumb dwess. I seen bettew dwesses in the twash!” Feiriina Xunaere was a very proud witchling. That simple admission rocked her straight to her core. Well, she’d show that little twit who was silly. If she didn’t like it, why was she wearing the dress? Riina slowly smiled. She didn’t like the dress eh? Well, what Riina had made, she could easily unmake. The threads of sugar began to unwind and crawl across Chrissy’s flesh, expanding to bind her body to one spot. The sugar entwined itself into her hair and became sticky and then solid, like a huge wad of gum. Riina giggled and walked over peering into the girls eyes. ”Is okay! You can keep the dwess anyway. I no like it either!” With a light tap she knocked the sugar entombed girl over and skipped away down the hall.
Kait would have a whole lot of explaining to do on Monday.

Riina was furious. She couldn't believe that her stupid little brother had been allowed to go with Exile while she had to stay home sick. Sure she got mommy's full and undivided attention, but it still wasn't fair! Who wanted to see some stinky little baby when they could see the beautiful and talented Faeriina Xuneare?
She pouted and stared in disgust at the ugly little red spots that had popped up all over her body. They reminded her of dirt. Nasty, germ-infested, filthy dirt. She wanted a bath. As if she could read minds, which Riina was pretty sure that she could, Kait drifted into the room and smiled sympathetically at her daughter. "How does a bath sound honey? I promise it'll make you feel better." Faeriina smiled up and nodded. "Yes please." Maybe if she was lucky the dirty, itchy little spots might wash away.
She looked from the bathtub and back up to her mother, trying to see the little smile that signified that this was just a very un-funny joke. "Momma. Wa's that? That is not a bath." Kait sighed, she had been afraid that her daughter might have that reaction. "It is a bath. It's a very special bath that will help you get rid of the chickenpox. It has oatmeal in it to make the spots stop itching." Riina stomped her foot and shook her head. She looked the part of an upset princess. "No! Bath's are clean. With clear warm water. Not dirty. Tha' looks like Hunter's face at bweakfast." Kait knelt down and pushed the hair from the girls face. Her expression was that of a desperate and exhausted parent. "I know it looks icky honey. But it will make you feel better I promise." She sighed and tried to think of a bargaining chip. "How does this sound? If you be a good girl and take your bath, afterwords I'll help you make something nice to give to daddy when he comes home? Neh?" She really hoped that the witchling would be agreeable just this once.
Riina watched her mother's face carefully before slowly nodding. "Okay. Promise?!" She knew that her mother would never lie and the spots were starting to itch again. "I promise baby." With one final suspicious look over at the woman, Riina stripped down and climbed into the oozy mixture. It felt.....well....there was only one word the little witchling could think of
Heaven.

Dearest Riina,
Baby, I knew at once you were meant for me. Deep in my soul, I know you're my destiny. Though you may be unsure, don't fight the tide. Don't think so much, and let your heart decide. My cousin Miles has seen your future, and it starts with mine. He's an oracle you see, he can do things like that. Are you searching for a sign that you will soon be mine? I will give you the signs, my love. My heart beats faster when you come into any scene. The heavens part when you are near; and the trumpet sounds. They shower you with my love, instead of the rain.
If you're true to your heart, it'll lead you straight to me. Can you feel the love that's calling to us? The love that wants to carry us to a place of calm surrender? Can you feel the love tonight? Because that is where we are. Where we will be. It's enough for me that we've gotten this far.
It won't be long before our hearts atune themselves, and mine is beating in time with yours. There are so many things people don't understand, Riina, magic and love are just two of those things. We know both; magic and love go hand and hand, you see. Love's a magic, you see. I'm not going to be cheesy and say that it's the most powerful magic there is. (Even though it is true, since love can break curses powerful wizards such as I, cannot). How the average human found that out and wrote it down is beyond me. Believe in love always, Riina.
Love exists. Never doubt it for a moment--but I'm afraid I must confess that I am not in love with you. I love Sophie Hatter, see. Fear not, however! I have great news for you. There is a boy for you, little witch. A boy I know, in fact; but I won't give you his name. You'll have to discover it for yourself. Miles, my cousin who happens to be an oracle, made me to promise not to tell you who it is. I think he's younger than you, though. He'll make you feel special. You'll be his one and lonely--forever.
I wanted you to know that you are loved this Valentines, which was the purpose of this letter. I sent it to your mailbox, rather than invading your privacy.
Your friend,
Howl
