Amy looked down the aisle with a frown, wondering how she had convinced herself that it would be easier to do this without a grocery list, when that was lazy thinking that never worked. Wondering if she had enough flour and sugar (and not knowing if she had actually checked the levels this morning) she hesitated, and decided...well, why not? One could never have too much flour and sugar in the house.
"Honey, can you grab me a jar of honey on the last level?" she called out, looking back to see a bright red mop of hair nod obediently before reaching for a bottle of generic honey. She had to hid a grin: it was adorable having a little helper, and so far Mara seemed enthusiastic enough to see this as a game rather than a chore.
Honestly, she wasn't looking forward to the day her daughter started to go through puberty.
Deciding that THAT was far enough and that the thought was depressing enough to require booze, she circled her trolley towards the wine section when she felt a tug on her skirt.
"Yes honey?" she asked, looking down to see Mara looking pointedly at the candy section.
Honestly.
Candy was the devil when it came to hyperactivity.
"Sure, if you want. But one. One only, alright?" with a grin, she followed her daughter down the aisle, watching as Mara examined the candy at her level with rapt eyes. Were they shining? Maybe just a little bit.

Kait smiled and dropped a third bag of sugar into the basket. Two for Riina and her 'gift' and one for the house. She sighed and rubbed her temples. She hated shopping of any kind. Riina on the other hand adored shopping. It gave her ideas of new things to make and create. "Momma. Can we get some candy?" Kait sighed and shook her head. "Don't you thing we have enough sugary things?" Riina shook her head emphatically. "No! That's for me to make gifts out of. I want candy for me and daddy and Hunter."
The woman smiled despite herself and finally nodded. "Alright. You go ahead. I need to grab one last thing. But only two things apiece. Understood?" The witchling nodded and ran off. Racing into the candy aisle she skidded to a stop in front of the chocolate.

Chocolate! Hard Candy! Gummi Bears? Pausing, Maya looked at the two bags she held in her hand, and then at the chocolate in front of her. Which one... this was... looking up over to where Amy seemed to be choosing some bags of candy herself, she grinned. Well, if Amy didn't see her put them in the trolley, maybe no one would have to know that she had picked more than one. Ooh, she was so smart.
Hearing voices, she looked up and over to recognize a girl her size coming her direction. Oh! DVD store! The one with the brother who had that fluffy swishy tail! Names she couldn't really remember (not yet) but it was enough for her to know that this one was someone she had met. Which meant technically they were friends, right?
"Candy!" she called out triumphantly, waving her bags as a greeting.

Riina looked up at the sound. She beamed as she recognized the girl from the movie store. She ran the rest of the way down the aisle to close the gap between them. "Hi! Your name is Maya right? We met in the movie store!" She snuck a glance at the candy, still trying to decide what she wanted.
Mommy had said she could have two, but that still didn't help her decide what she wanted. She shuffled her feet as she thought.

Maya beamed. There had been three names hurdled into her direction on that day, and try as she might she was getting them all confused in her head. The boys had different names and this girl was called something like Rain, or Na. Ri... ah, well maybe she would say it again and Maya could pretend to have done it all along. Nodding her head, she held out the bags she held in her hands, watching the way the other girl shuffled her feet.
Maybe she was having the same dilemma she was.
"Mom said only one." her gaze was curious. Had this girl mother said the same thing as well? It would make sense, what with the grown ups having all this silly rules.
Candy never hurt anyone.
...
Maybe.

Riina nodded to the girls statement. "Two for me. And I can pick out two for Hunter and my daddy." She sighed and reached for a Milky Way Caramel. She liked the way the caramel pulled away in little strings as she ate it. Picking something for daddy was easy. She picked up two bags of Boston Baked Beans and wrinkled her nose. She didn't know what he liked about them. She thought they were nasty.
Kait turned and walked down the candy aisle. Seeing the girls a smile grew. "Riina? Do you want to put the candy in the cart?" She casually reached down and added a couple of Reese's to the pile.
Riina bounced over and dropped the candy into the basket before looking back to Maya. "Maya this is my mommy. Momma this is my friend Maya!"

Two and two and... well, that was a lot more than the one she was supposed to get for herself. Looking at the two bags that matched, Maya wrinkled her nose. Certainly, these would not have been the bags she would have picked up for herself, although the milky way caramel did make sense.
Good taste, this girl had.
Riina, was it? Right! Maya could almost remember that name being introduced to her. Nodding her head at the lady, she beamed.
"Please ta meet cha." she recited. Long enough to make it complicated, and long enough to hurt her head in memorizing. But Amy liked to say that it was good to welcome guests, and ... well. Guests were people she didn't know, right?
"My mommy's over there." she pointed to where she watched as Amy discretely tucked another bar of chocolate into their trolley.
Sneaky mother.

Kait smiled down at Maya. "Nice to meet you too." She turned in time to see Riina add a bag of gummy bears and a Heath bar to the cart. "For Hunter? Hurry and pick your last one. I'll be waiting in the checkout for you okay?"
Riina smiled up and nodded. She looked shyly to where Maya pointed. "She's pretty." The witchling returned to staring intently at the candy. All of that delicious sugar just begged to be eaten. Which reminded her. She dug into her pocket and emptied a little packet of sugar into the palm of her hand. "Watch this Maya! Do you like bracelets?" Without waiting for an answer she coaxed the sugar into a solid and durable form. It twisted itself into a delicate looking pearl colored bracelet complete with a little clasp. "Its for you!"

Maya gaped. She forgot about the candy completely as she looked down at the cute little bracelet that had just been formed out of sugar. This was magic! Just as cool as the bird that was see through and the ribbon with her name on it. Reaching for it tentatively, she looked up.
"Is it going to break?" she asked, holding her wrist out. She wasn't flexible enough to clasp these things onto her own wrist herself, not with one hand. "It's so pretty, Riina! Thank you so much!"
She looked down, and around and frowned. No, she didn't know any nifty tricks the way this girl did, but...
"I can change things too!"
Eyes brightening with delight at a trick she had partially learnt, she looked two ways first, making sure no one was watching, and scrunched up her nose.
She had done this just twice in her life, so far. Practice makes perfect, right?
With a little slide of silk, a fluffy crimson tail peeked out from underneath Maya's skirt, waving.
"Oh, but... your brother has a tail."

Riina shook her head smiling wide at the display of pleasure. She was glad that Maya liked it. "No. Its very sturdy" She helped to secure it on her wrist. A small blush crept across her nose and she giggled a little. "You're welcome." She moved back and waited with he breath held. She could feel excitement building as she watched Maya make sure no one was looking. Seeing the little tail she squealed happily. "How cute! That's so cool Maya!" She frowned and compared Maya's tail to Hunter's tail. "So? Hunter can't make his go away. And it's not as cool as yours!" She shifted her feet and glanced back at the candy. An Almond Joy. She liked the way that the coconut felt on her tongue. She reached out and picked it up and then turned back to Maya.

Maya beamed at the compliment. Look, and her tail was awesome because she could make it go away! It flicked with pleasure, and she nodded her head. "I been trying to make all turn into a cat." she pointed to her head, and shook her head. She hadn't been so successful yet... maybe it took more practice. "Need to try though, because not working very well yet."
Well, maybe one day. It was bound to work its way through her repertoire sooner or later, right?
Looking at what the other child had picked up, she looked at it. What was it? "Tasty?" she asked, looking at the candy she had picked up in comparison to the one Riina had.
That one looked good...
"How do you do do it?" she liked the bracelet, it was magic!
