It was late afternoon, getting close to dusk. It would be a quiet evening in tonight, and while Maya seemed to enjoy doing nothing more than watching old videos, it was Amy who was feeling as if they needed something new to watch. So after ordering some takeout from a restaurant, they had just crossed the street into a video store to pick up something to watch in the afternoon.
"Something to do with dragons?" Maya looked up from where she was sitting on the ground thoughtfully chewing on a giraffe chew toy, her ruby eyes glimmering with amusement. "No, you don't mind what we watch do you?" Amy was talking to herself, mostly.
Maya was still a toddler, but she had picked up enough words to be proficient. To be understandable. But so far the child seemed to enjoy nothing more than listening to others talk.
"Dragons, that sounds like a good idea." Amy continued, picking up the slim DVD case with a nod. "We'll take it home, pick up our takeout... and then we'll see where it goes."
A quiet night. Thats all that she expected.

"Daddy, can we get this movie, plleeeeease?" Katia asked, fluttering her long lashes up at her father. He looked down from the shelf he was peering at, into the face of... Barbie. And her unicorn. Or was it a pegasus? He wasn't sure. One would have thought he would be, having seen it upwards of fifty times, but he had blocked it from his mind entirely.
"Ugh! I am not watching that stupid movie again! Dad!! I want to pick. It's supposed to be my turn." Why yes. Dimitri was whining. And he was not ashamed. "Katia always gets to pick the movie, and if I have to watch Barbie make that stupid magic stick one more time I'm going to barf!"
"Well we don't want that." Viktor chuckled, looking down at Katia. Her eyes widened and she gasped at Dimitri, hugging the movie to her chest. "You wouldn't know a good movie if it bit you on your big ole nose!" She stuck her tongue out at Dimitri, whose face turned as red as his hair. "My nose is NOT big! And I know that's a stupid movie!" He snapped, pointing an angry finger at his sister. "It is NOT stupid! Daddy...Dimitri's c-calling my movie stupid." Katia cast her father a teary glance, and Viktor's hard heart jerked.
"You can both pick a movie." He told them. "But neither of you will watch anything if you keep acting like spoiled brats." He whispered in a low voice. Both kids looked at each other, and ceased bickering immediately.
Kali was across the store, fingering through the animated films. Luka hovered over her shoulder, staring in wide eyed wonder at all of the colorful covers. They were so...pretty! Looking around, he made sure nobody would see, and as Kali turned her back to him, he sucked one inside his mouth. Smacking his lips, he turned, searching for another pretty one. Four more fell victim to his mouth, before he spotted one that was positively beautiful. In someone else's hands, but hey, Luka had never been one to understand the concept of theft. Drifting higher, he flew along the ceiling until he hovered over the woman's head, looking down and wondering how he was supposed to get that pretty case.
Quickly, he decided, readying himself to dive. Quickly would be best. Mustering up his face, and his speed, Luka darted down, opening his mouth wide and headed straight for the woman's hands. Before he hit her, however, he sucked the movie into his mouth, veered away, and slammed into the toddler's shadow, disappearing.
Yup. They'd never find him here!!

Amy paused, blinking. Something... something had just happened right here and she wasn't quite sure what had. Staring at her empty hands, she frowned as she looked at the ground, and then at Maya. Had she dropped the DVD? Something... something had definitely happened, and she still wasn't quite sure what had.
"Maya, have you seen the DVD?" she asked her daughter, although not thinking that her toddler would have the answer. Maya looked up from where she had been examining the pretty covers of some of the other DVDs closer to her eye level, and blinked. Where had the dragon DVD gone?
"Dragon?" was Maya's only question as she echoed her guardian's movements and looked at the ground. Had her guardian dropped it by some accident?
"I had it in my hands right now, but it disappeared... I think I might have dropped it. No." she stopped. "I must have dropped it." she corrected herself. Or maybe she was going crazy now and had instead put it back on the shelf. Well, there was another copy... maybe she was imagining things after all. "I must be going a little bit crazy." she muttered to herself quietly. "Come on, I'll just get this copy." yeah, no one needed to know that Amy was going crazy and misplacing DVDs already.

A brown haired young man looking around twenty followed a hyperactive ragdoll and her shadow Herion. Damin had been struck with watching Eve and of course where Eve was, Herion was definitely there. The shadow acted like a bodyguard although the male vampire knew the little girl was slowly learning protection spells from him.
The reason why they were at a video store was because Romero had smashed Eve's favorite movie and now to keep her busy, Damin needed to get a copy of the movie for her to watch.
Eve glanced around, seeing several shadows like her own, but she thought perhaps making new friends was in order. Herion on the other hand eyed even the adults as if they would steal his host away. Eve was still a little girl though her arm did come once in a while.
Herion flew around her head as she walked over to the animated films, accidentally bumping into Kali.

"Luka, honestly, watch where you're fly-oh!" She blinked as she turned and saw a Shadow that was most definitely not Luka. Which begged the question, where was Luka?
"Well, hello there little guy. What's your name?" She didn't know if this Shadow could speak as well as others she had met, but it was worth a shot. "Maybe you can help me. There's another Shadow running around here somewhere. Did you see him?"
"You LOST Luka?!" Katia's indignant cry made Kali wince and Viktor drop the movies he was holding. Luka? Lost? Alone?
Son of a biscuit box, that was bad. Not only because Katia would throw a fit to rival the sun exploding if he got hurt, but because that Shadow was a hellion in disguise. Wherever he was, whatever he was doing, you could rest assured that it was not good.
Luka didn't hear this commotion as he hid in Maya's shadow, covering his little mouth and giggling quietly. He wasn't in trouble! And, he thought with wide eyes, that woman had another one of the pretty cases. He already had one, but...wasn't two always better than one? He looked around, his green eyes bright from within Maya's shadow, and decided that yes, two were better than one. And so, he very tentatively rose, peeked over at Amy... and zipped closer, chirupping, and trying to swallow this one as well.
Dimitri hadn't spoken since realizing that Luka was gone, because he was gone too. He figured that it was probably best if they found him before he hurt someone, or did something horrible. Actually, it kind of felt like something was happening right now. Like...someone was going to need him. As chance, or his ability, would have it, he turned around the corner just to see Luka zipping up at some woman, mouth wide like he was going to eat her face.
He didn't yell, or speak as he broke into a run, leaping over the toddler girl on the floor. Mid air, he wrapped his arms around Luka and pulled him away from the woman, and whatever he was doing to her, ducking into a roll as they hit the ground. It wasn't as graceful as he imagined it. As opposed to landing, suave and epically on his knees, he tumbled out of control into the rack of movies. There was a crash, a clatter, and suddenly Dimitri found himself covered in fallen movies.
"....ow." That had worked out so much better for, like...Indiana Jones, or James Bond. He'd probably have to practice that one.
"Lu!" The little shadow was quite indignant as he wiggled away from Dimitri, pouting and glaring at Dimitri. What had he done that for?! It was so not fair! He- A DVD case with a holographic cover caught his eye, and Luka forgot all about it as he opened his mouth, and swallowed it up. Look at all these pretty cases! Oh, he just had to have them all.

Herion stared at the woman, wondering why he was being called Luka. His name was Herion, so he told the woman it. "Her, heri, ion!" A moment later, he flew to Eve and used her head as a perch. He didn't trust the woman with his host alone.
"Herion?" She looked at Kali and smiled slightly, "Hello." The ragdoll had picked up several movies that caught her eye, but she hoped Herion hadn't tried to push the woman away from where Eve. He had gotten into the habit of making people go away from Eve, which got on the toddler's nerves.
"Heri?" There were other shadows around? Herion looked at the woman, tiliting his head to the side. "Ion?" He glanced around and pointed towards another flyng shadow. Perhaps that was Luka?

Amy only had a second to see something bright and green peek at her from Maya's shadow before something with a big mouth came towards her. Dimitri tackling the figure happened too quickly for the woman to react, and for a moment, staring at the DVD cases falling around the two figures, she didn't know how to react.
Maya was faster. Quicker in thinking, she walked over on unsteady legs and picked up one of the movies, moving it out of the way. Crouching in front of the blond boy and moving another one, she frowned. The strange little shadow sucking up all the DVD cases didn't bother her: she liked to put things in her mouth too, although with her it was more about chewing and mangling them than doing what that boy did.
"Ouch?" she repeated, wondering what that had all been about. He had literally flown across the room! And landed quite gracefully in her eyes (it was the stupid movies Amy liked so much that had interfered, rather than poor planning on the boy's fault.)
"Are you okay?" Amy's question was slightly bewildered as she looked up, and giggling as she saw the strange little shadow swallow up one more of the DVD cases.
Well, at least she wasn't going crazy.

Dimitri rubbed his head and looked up at the toddler crouching over him, pushing DVD's off of him. "Er...yeah. Ouch." He winced, pushing himself up into a sitting position. He looked up at Amy and flushed, dusting off his shoulders.
"'Course I'm okay. It's just a tumble. Are you okay? Is he bothering you?" He looked over at Luka, and gaped. What /was/ that shadow doing NOW?! "Luka, you little thief, spit those out!"
Luka paused, halfway through swallowing the Lion King when Dimitri snapped at him. Shifting his eyes back and forth, he considered the merit of obeying him. Was this pretty case worth being in trouble? Well....
"Luka, I said drop it!" Dimitri tried again. The only person Luka really obeyed was Katia, and she...well, he didn't know WHERE she was.
Luka cocked his head to the side, DVD still hanging out of his mouth. He regarded Dimitri for a moment...and promptly swallowed the case. Tittering, he zipped away with what could only be a triumphant cackle, off to find Katia for protection.
Kali grinned at Eve, waving a bit. She recognized her from...somewhere. It only took a few moments for her to figure it out. "You're Eve, aren't you? You're one of Howl's apprentices?" She wasn't entirely sure, but she was pretty positive that this was who this girl was.
Viktor turned as Herion pointed, spotting Luka fluttering over to them. He frowned, suspicious. He definitely looked guilty. When was he not? Luka balked at the sight of Viktor, quickly darting into Katia's shadow. He didn't want to deal with the large and scary man right now. He just hoped Dimitri would keep his mouth shut and not tattle on him...!

Exile rubbed his temples and did his best not to strangle himself with his own ponytail. Though he loved his children dearly, sometimes he just didn't know how to handle them. Kait would, but she had gone to see her older brother. Which was why he had come here in the first place. In search of their favorite movie, which had gone mysteriously missing from the house. A nice bottle of wine, a quiet dinner of chicken penne pasta and a movie waiting for his mate. It sounded just so nice. Of course he needed to find some movies for the children to take with them while they spent the night with their godmother.
"How about this one daddy? Mommy likes this one. Is this it?" Riina held up a DVD. He cringed as he noticed the cover was coated in pink glitter. He could almost his mate's horrified screams at the mere sight of the cover. "Thank you Riina, darling, but its not the one I was wanting." He did his best not to hurt her feelings. Hunter held a DVD close to his chest as he scanned through the rack. There were alot that looked interesting, but he preferred it when mommy read books to him. He was about to reach out and pick up a movie for a better look when the rack toppled over.
He threw his arms over his head and tried to protect himself from the hail of DVDs. When the barrage stopped Riina moved closer and helped the other girl to move the DVD's. Messiness was a pet peeve of hers. "You okay?"

Maya watched the way the little shadow didn't seem keen on listening to the boy in front of her, and found it a little bit funny. Disobedience! What a rare and intoxicating sight. Giggling at the cackle and watching it fly away, her gaze was amused as she looked back to catch Amy's eyes.
No matter what that had just been, it was definitely curious. It was cute as well, and while she still didn't see the merit in swallowing the cases whole (nor did she see the merit on chewing on these... for some reasons she had a feeling it would be painful when they splintered in her mouth) she wanted one of those dark flying things too.
Now wouldn't that be a delight for the house.
Smiling as the other girl helped her move the DVDs, she shook her head as a belated answer. "No. Luka cute."
Well, he was.
And it wasn't if she would be paying for the DVDs.
This was proving to be a lot more exciting than a ordinary trip to the store.
"I'm Maya."

As he detangled himself from the mess of DVD's, Dimitri wondered how it happened that every time he helped someone, he ended up in a crowd of girls. Really. They flocked like seagulls to a leftover fry container or something!
"Really, I'm alright." He said, tossing an unintentionally charming grin at the second girl that had come to help. "It was just a tumble. And," he turned and looked at Maya, grinning. "You might think he's cute now, but just be glad you don't live with him. He's not nice at all. Thank you, though, Maya." She didn't seem able to talk, but she seemed as if she would understand, if not the whole sentence than at least the thank you.
"My name's Dimitri, and I should probably go find my Dad..." He trailed off, looking around. Viktor hadn't been far when he left him. Where was he now?

Eve nodded at the mention of Howl. He might not have taught her anything just yet and she was sure he would teach her one spell at least. "He is my teacher." No wonder Howl flirted with the woman in front of her then again, he seemed to flirt alot with other girls.
Herion got off his host's head, bored already with the chat between the young woman and his host. He flew near Viktor, curious about him and thinking he was the biggest threat in the room. "He heri?"

Herion was right in thinking that Viktor was the biggest threat in the room, though he certainly wasn't about to hurt Eve, or anyone else for that matter. He was simply the most dangerous, potentially. He turned his crystalline gaze onto the little Shadow with a small frown, though he had no true reason to dislike him. It was just habit; Luka and Cain didn't do much to liken him to their species. Katia poked her head around the corner of the aisle in time for Luka to attach himself to it quite firmly, trilling and chattering and giggling. Katia giggled and hugged him, turning back to her father.
"Daddy, I found Luka!" She said cheerily, pointing at the Shadow that cuddled her head. "Great..." Viktor drawled, shooting Luka a look. The shadow ignored it pointedly, snuggling Katia and looking over at Herion. Who was that shadow? And didn't he know that Viktor was a meanie poo?
"I thought so." Kali said, smiling at Eve. "He's mentioned you, before. Your shadow, he's pretty cute. His name's Herion, yeah?"

Slowly Exile relaxed and leaned down to check Hunter over. The little wolfling brushed his father away before moving closer to his sister. Although he was the younger of the two he was very protective of her around other boys. Riina gave him an irratated look from the corner of her eyes before she answered Maya and Dimitri. "I'm Riina. This is Hunter."
Hunter resisted the urge to stick his tongue out at her. He wasn't a baby anymore. He could introduce himself. With a disinterested twitch of his tail he occupied himself with watching the little shadow creatures around the store. They were neat looking, but he didn't think he wanted one. After all, Faeriina was bad enough on her own.
Riina pulled her hat on tighter and moved away from her brother's tail. One day she was determined to tape it down. It moved around with a mind of its own that seemed intent on destroying her precious hat. Standing up she set the pile of movies on a nearby shelf and dusted her dress off. She looked up at Dimitri with a curious look. "Why don't you put him in time out? That's what momma does to me when I'm mean."

"Well." Dimitri said, spreading his hands and shrugging. "He can go through walls. And fly. He's a little hard to keep IN time out. I mean, we can put him there, but he doesn't stay there. My cousin Kali has to use a spell to keep him there, so it's too much of a hassle." He shook his head.
"We're trying to teach him how to behave...but he's not very interested. If it's not brightly colored, Kali's fingers, or someone else's stuff, he's never interested." He shrugged again, looking around. He could hear Kali's voice nearby, and Katia's shrill giggle. Ugh. Sisters. It would be better to just sell them all and use the money for candy, or something.
