Pirke Avot 2.1
'Rabbi': Which is the right path to choose? One that is honorable in itself and also wins honor from others.
About Chana
Chana is, at first glance, a giant beaver. She's quite chubby and unable to stand up completely straight anymore. She's usually smiling and cheerful, though when she gets depressed, the melancholic mood lasts for days. Her hair is distinguishable from her fur only by the curls and she has brown eyes. Her hands still possess many motor skills, allowing her to read and write easily.
Chana thought she was coming to the island for a job, but was decieved. She did not take to the idea at all well, fainted when she saw Cassidy, and was not convinced about the labs until her first change.
Since then she has come to the conclusion that they're all trapped on the island and there's nothing they can do about it. She misses her family dearly, especially those members with whom she'd exchanged harsh words last. However, Chana does not allow herself to dwell on such dreary facts. If she does, she becomes severely depressed. She knows this is what will happen, and so takes steps to avoid it. This is not to say that she won't lose her temper with people (she will), but she does her best to stay cheerful and look on the bright side of life. She's given up on hating the labs because firstly, it's useless and secondly, she found Stewart on the island.
Chana is Jewish. She is one of the more religious islanders, and is proud of her religion. In the past she was a youth advisor for a synagouge's youth group, and was involved in her own youth group when she was younger.
Romantically, Chana is quite in love with Stewart. There is irony in their religion, Stewart being a Catholic priest. They are sweet together and to each other, though they don't get nearly as much interaction as they'd like. They live separately for the moment.

Pirke Avot 2.18
Rabbi Shimon: When you pray, let not your prayer become routine, but let it be a sincere supplication for God's mercy, as it says: "For Adonai is gracious and merciful, endlessly patient, overflowing in love, and eager to forgive." And never condemn yourself as totally wicked.
Friends/Acquaintances Joliette - A nice person and very good conversationalist. Jamal - Um...good conversationalist. Grade A pathfinder! Kind of scary and violent though... Father Stewart - Intelligent, courteous, religious. And kind. A little naive though...but very loveable. I hope. MY MATE. <3 Cassidy - Very nice, wheelchair-bound. Ambrose - Nice guy. Seems sensitive. Greer - Smart and kind. Bug person. Kim - Quiet-ish. Diabetic. Antony - ******** HER! Lily - Nice. Nervy? Might just be me. Poor girl who needs a friend. Also needs to be more honest. Ian - Sir Deerboy is most definitely off his rocker. Awen - Nice, a bit rash. Avery - Nice and caring of friends. Moreau - Overly cruel. Zach - New and jumps to conclusions. OH MY G-D, GET HIM AWAY FROM ME! Blonde Woman [Valentine] - Opinionated but honest. Wolf-Man [Pyroth] - Scary and a bit reclusive, I think. Lauren - Nice, has some common sense, a bit naive. Nita - Poor girl. Very nice and smart, but I wish she wasn't here. Billy - Annyoying, ugly, and obnoxious. Possibly a speck of good in there somewhere in the muck. Possibly. Madison - A very nice woman and fun to hang out with! Bobby - A kind, motherly person, but not so much older that she's beyond needing support. Tommy - Interesting fellow. Nearly died in coming here, and seems determined to escape Moreau's grip. I'm afraid for him. Emerwyn - Nice, quiet, the lack of contractions is scary. Richard - Nice-ish, can be a naive b*****d. A GIRL!? Shenzi - Nice girl. Cody - Very nice and perceptive kid. Marshall - Another Jew! But an ignorant one. Nice guy though. I'll enjoy teaching him. Brian - Nice dog-man with a dog. Jordan - A nice, sweet dog-man.

So long as still within the inmost heart of a Jewish spirit sings, so long as the eye looks eastward, gazing toward Zion, our hope is not lost -- that hope of two millennia, to be a free people in our land, the land of Zion and Jerusalem.

Chana's Duplex
When entering this duplex, an observant guest notices the mezuzzah on the door frame, marking a Jewish home. Once inside there is a musky sort of smell that goes with long periods of occupancy with closed windows. On a desk/table lies a Torah (Plaut edition), two prayer books (Gates of Prayer and Gates of Repentance), a dreidel with carefully painted letters, a beautiful photo of the ocean, a painted rock and a hannukeah. On the bed are rumpled sheets and blankets that should probably be changed. The room and floor are relatively clean, with no clothes lying around. In a corner by the door is some fishing line and tackle, but there is a layer of dust on it.

Pirke Avot 4.21
Rabbi Jacob: This world is like an anteroom before the world-to-come; prepare yourself in the anteroom that you may enter into the banquet hall.
North American Beaver Castor canadensis
The North American beaver is the second-largest rodent in the world. Beavers are 35-46 inches long, including about 16 inches of flat, scaly tail. They weigh 35-75 pounds and have large heads, as compared to their bodies and those of other animals. They have small ears and beady eyes. The front feet are splayed, and the back feet are twice as long and webbed on top of that.
Beavers will hiss at intruders and slap their tails to ward off danger. Babies whine.
Beavers are herbivores, eating trees, grasses, and water plants. They also eat the bark off of branches, which can be cut and stored in the lodge during the winter. They're mostly active at night, to avoid predators.
Beavers mate for life, and look for those partners in January or February, when they are three years old.
Beavers have poor sight and hearing, but a very keen sense of smell. They can, though, see underwater due to clear eyelids. Special valves in the nostrils and ears keep water out, and the fur-lined lips behind its teeth will seal the mouth while it carries a branch underwater. Beavers can swim up to 6 miles an hour and hold their breath for up to 15 minutes.
Their incisors will grow continuously, so beavers chew wood to keep them short. They are active year-round. A thick layer of fat keeps heat in, along with short, dense underfur. Coarse guard hairs cover the underfur, and beavers comb water-repellent oil from a**l glands into them.
