The rain has stopped, but the ground was still wet and muddy. Underneath a bench, in the outside area of the Village, Lily is just waking up. Her eyes flutter open, and despite being on the ground she can't help but feel just a little comfortable due the dampness of the ground and her clothes. Then of course, the question hits her about why she's still outside.

With a groan, she pushes herself up- a mistake, for she bumps her head on the bottom of the bench.

"Ouch!" she exclaims, and then crawls out from under the bench. Outside.. she'd gone for a walk in the rain, and never gone back inside? Rubbing where she hit her head on the bench, she gets to her feet carefully- and then sits down on the bench.

It was a beautiful morning, and Chana was out enjoying it. The sodden air was a bit cool still, but the beaver girl's fur more than made up for it, and she knew that it would soon heat up to where she'd either take a dip in the river or stay inside with the A/C.

She was a bit startled to hear someone crying out in sudden pain, and curiously veered over to see who it was.

"Are you okay?" she called out, studying the figure as she drew closer. Green skin...but not Amaya...and red hair? Chana's heart started pounding. She'd only met one redheaded islander who'd changed thus far...and they hadn't spoken since Moreau made a mess of things.

Lily carefully pulls her sticky orange hand from her hair, looking towards a certain duplex- trying to recall her memory of before she passed out.. or before everything went fuzzy. She doesn't get a chance to think before someone is calling out to her, and she turns her bright orange eyes in the direction of the voice.

"I- I'm fin-" she stammers a bit, her voice sounding a bit different than how she used, thanks to the fact that her tongue is now stuck to the front of her mouth and not the back of it.

The person looks familar, even at a distance- a bit fuzzier, but hard to mistake due to the hair. It has to be Chana. Lily bites her lip and then stands up.

"Chana," she greets her, stepping forward a bit. Forget what happened before, concentrate on this for now. You wanted to talk to her, now's your chance..

Chana blinked as she was addressed. It had to be Lily. No mistaking that odd sound her voice had had last time too, as if something was in her mouth.

And she'd changed since then, the beaver realized, conveniently forgetting her own transformation. She looked...well, she still looked like Lily with that hair, but already she looked much less human than before.

"How've you been, Lily?" she asked, trying to make light conversation. Her voice only wavered slightly, betraying her nervousness. Everything she'd wanted to say, about how she'd stuck up for Lily, and even told the new redhead that she had to make her own opinions about people, just washed away.

Lily rubs a green arm nervously, watching Chana quietly for a moment- she did get a lot fuzzier, in her next transformation. She looks to the ground instead of at Chana, not wanting to offend her as the memory of what happened that day comes back- wouldn't want to look interested, even if you can't help but notice the changes in people. Her gaze shifts back to Chana's face to speak to her, rather than to speak to the ground.

"I've been alright," Lily manages, not necessarily sincere, her tongue making an odd clucking noise in the last word, and with slight hesitation, "How have you been?"

"Okay, I guess," she answered. So far...nothing. At least Lily seemed as nervous as she was. That counted for something, right?

The silence seemed to stretch on, and Chana finally broke it. "You could've done better, y'know. You're too good for him to be your boss." There. She'd put it out there. She wouldn't blame Lily for working for Moreau. They were both in the same boat now, and had been since they'd met. What had come before had been before, and had no bearing now.

Lily tries to smile when Chana says she at least OK, but barely manages it. She hesitates her way through the awkward silence, trying to think of what to say- what she wanted to say. Instead, she stays quiet until Chana finally speaks.

"I-" she pauses, deciding it's a nice compliment.

"I guess," Lily says, "It was just a job I could do without going through more school. I didn't expect this.." She gestures to the village, their surroundings.. everything.

"I owe you some explanation... or... an apology," she says finally, looking back at Chana. She doesn't seem upset anymore, maybe she'd accept an apology of some kind now- Lily's concern now is how long it's been since it's been due. She should have gotten the nerve sooner.

She nodded...Lily's reasons made sense. But she waved a hand at the frog girl when she started mentioning an apology.

"The way I see it, that man was just trying to stir up trouble. I wish you'd told me yourself and sooner, but I won't hold a grudge." She paused, trying to think how to say things best. And how to say things without sounding cliche.

Lily looks quite relieved when Chana waves off an apology, and says she won't hold a grudge. She frowns a bit, but nods her agreement with the first statement Chana makes.

"If I cost that much money, and that's his idea of funny, I'm not surprised he did it," she admits, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I didn't know what kind of reaction to expect from the people here if I just told everyone." She looks around, almost nervously- the general angry and threatening reaction she'd gotten by the river still in the back of her mind.

She opens her mouth to try to explain more, but decides excuses are useless. Surely anyone here could understand her wanting to keep it a secret, for certainly most of them don't like the staff.

Chana snorted. "He's a vengeful b*****d and that's it," she growled. "He just wanted to set the rest of us up against you. But you're one of us."

It had gotten mixed up in the delivery, but the beaver hoped her point had made it across. She wanted the two of them to be friends, and ignore the meddling Moreau had meant. She always had stuck up for the kids on the sidelines, why not stand by Lily?

Lily can agree with the first two statements without question, but then she hesitates suddenly, recalling her former paranoia- she'd been so nervous she'd been too relieved when Joliette didn't outright get mad at her. Is she being too trusting again? She looks Chana in the eyes, trying to test the sincerity in the words she spoke.

"Really?" She asks gently, smiling small but hopefully.

There is a sudden strange hum coming from all around them in the village as she loudspeakers turn on. From the speakers comes a loud, recognizable voice. Lily tenses when she hears the voice, listening to it silently.

"Hello my precious subjects,

If you didn't already know, my second-in-command, Dr. Aubrey Lockheart was severly injured recently. She may not survive.

No one but Aubrey has entered the labs since the travesty, and no one else is allowed to, so the guilty party must be on the outside.

Bring me the guilty party, or else you'll all suffer for this. I hope no more than that needs to be said.

If you are the responsible party, know that all eyes will turn to you. You can't escape the eyes of those you might have considered friend, or even lover.

I want the person responsible to be brought to me."

Chana had been about to reassure the frog girl when the loudspeakers cut across the air. The beaver's eyes grew rounder and she froze as the import of the words sunk in. She didn't know who Aubrey Lockheart was, but clearly she was important.

"What the heck is going on?" she whispered, too stunned to grasp at her previous thoughts.

If Lily could noticably pale, she would. Dr. Lockheart had been injured, and badly. The words that she may not survive ring in her ears. Aubrey had been nice to her, she'd been the last person she'd really intereacted with before Colche's party. Someone here was stupid enough to attack the second-in-command?

Not only that, they didn't get caught yet.

"I don't know," Lily says, after a slight pause. Her eyes move from Chana to a nearby duplex, her memory jumping a bit, to somewhere before everything went fuzzy. She looks back at Chana.

"Do you think," she began, before stopping and looking around furtively. Even though she saw no one, Chana moved closer to Lily and whispered. "Do you think it was Jamal? Or Zach?" Both of them were quite feral in Chana's experience...and she could easily see either committing the crime.

Lily joins Chana in looking around, also seeing no one, but understanding the need to be cautious with these kind of hypotheses. She frowns.

"Dr. Lockheart did say that a.. " she pauses, trying to remember who and what Aubrey'd said, "Mr. Reedy was.. dangerous, or something. Something needed to be done before he hurt anyone else.. is he either of those two?"
