Cassidy rolled into the cafeteria with her nose buried in a book, surfacing only long enough to grab a few things to eat--a plate of smallish, warm, rare bits of meat.
Of course, she had the strangest craving for something that still had fur on it, or perhaps feathers, but that was so disturbing she was really not prepared to face it.
She hesitated by the door; of course, she had to get to a good spot in the book to put the bookmark in.

Chana was rather pleased that nothing ill had come of her meeting Father Young. She'd decided to stop by the cafeteria and grab something on her way back to her duplex. Her head was so high in the clouds that she didn't notice the wheelchair until she banged into it.
CLUNK!
"Ow!" Chana yelped, rubbing her knee. "I'm so sorry about that," she began apologizing to the other woman...without really looking at her.

"Oh no, I'm sorry!" Cassidy grimaced. "I think I parked in a bad spot. You're not hurt, are you?"
Reflexively, her tongue flickered, and the scent confirmed what she had been fairly certain already--she didn't know this person. With any luck, there wouldn't be any ohnoholyshit going on. Her feathers ruffled.
"I've banged my knees on it plenty myself... I think I gotta get bumpers."

"No no...I should watch where I'm going. I really need to work...on...that..." Chana had raised her eyes to smile at the woman in the wheelchair. Her face had frozen halfway there as she saw Cassidy.
She stumbled backward a couple steps, back outside. "Dear Lord..." she whispered, too stunned to complete the thought.

Cassidy sighed. For a moment, she felt rather annoyed--it wasn't her fault she looked like this, after all, and it wasn't fair that--
--oh, geez.
Honestly, girl, you were better than this. It wasn't this girl's fault, either. Don't be putting your frustrations onto her.
"Um." Unfortunately, she couldn't think of what to say, either. "Sorry. I guess I do look... um." Cass tucked her placeholder into the book, and tucked it down beside her.

Chana wasn't sure what was going on. The woman...looked...no, she couldn't focus on that. She already felt a bit dizzy and lightheaded.
Anyway, the woman was apologizing. Why?
"Um..uh...why are you apologizing?" Chana asked, wincing away from the blunt question and from the woman's appearance. Hopefully she could stay conscious...

"I... er... I didn't mean to startle you." Cass tapped her fingers together. "I know I'm a bit of a shock right now. Are you feeling all right? Should we get you a drink? I... um, I don't really have anything with me but..." She gestured into the cafeteria behind them.
Despite herself, her tongue flickered out; she couldn't help it, but it did anyway with the urge to know if Chana was feeling okay, and she would certainly not forgive herself if Chana passed out here.

"I uh...a drink sounds nice," Chana finished lamely. She leaned against the wall for support and closed her eyes.
"It's...er...really nice of you to be so concerned about me," she rambled. Anything to not think and not collapse.

She must be new. Oh, oh dear.
"Okay. Just stay there." With one hand on her own plate to keep it from toppling off the arm of her chair, Cassidy rolled off towards the line. Fortunately, it was empty at the moment, so it didn't take her long to grab a plastic cup full of cold water.
This new girl must not know anything yet. Why me?
Cassidy came wheeling back, her own plate on her lap, the cup in her left hand, and her right hand on the controls. "Here. It's nice and cold. Do you need to sit down?"

Chana bit her lip. "I'm not sure if I should sit down...but I think I'm supposed to put my head between my knees." She slid down the wall and accepted the water, drinking half the glass.
"Thank you...ah..." Oooh. She didn't even know the woman's name. Nor the other...woman...she'd seen.

"Yeah. Yeah, do that." Cassidy tilted her head, her tail twitching through the hole in the back of the chair. "You, um, must be pretty new, huh? My name is Cassidy."

Chana carefully set the glass down on the floor and dropped her head between her knees. Her voice came out muffled.
"Yeah...I got here a bit more than a week ago? My name's Chana. It's...uh...nice to meet you, Cassidy." In fact, Cassidy seemed like a nice enough person. It was whatever curse was upon her body that wasn't so nice. Again the passage where Miriam was punished with leprosy came to mind.

"A week. Um." Cassidy hesitated, not really sure how to phrase this delicately. "I suppose I'm one of the first people... like this, that you've met?"
Maybe Chana'd had the grace to meet someone with a relatively mild first transformation. Or only other fully human people. Oh, did she ever hate this.

"Well...um," Chana grabbed the glass and took a sip of water. "There was another woman...or girl? She was...I think...scarier than you...but similar?"
Chana shook her head slightly, though she was sure Cassidy couldn't see it. "I'm sorry...I fainted and she left. Though I have to admit, it's kind of weird to sit here, talking calmly to someone who looks like the one who tempted Eve." If she was going crazy, why not just say whatever came to mind?

"The only other one I know with scales is Amaya... but..." She shook her head. "I think you've been unlucky to run into both us reptiles."
Cassidy would have ground her teeth if she had teeth that were grindable. She popped a cooling piece of meat into her mouth, and swallowed it whole behind her hand, more to postpone the inevitable than anything else.
The one who tempted Eve. Ha. Cass was rather glad she was more-or-less atheistic; she had enough issues with the whole mess without that side of things. "Green tree python, they told me. With just a little bit," she flicked the feathers on her elbow, "of scarlet macaw. That's what I'm turning into. I can't help it. None of us can. But I suppose I am essentially half a snake. I don't think I have anything to tempt you with, though."
She was pretty rusty on her Bible study, though.
