You know, they see me like a jokester, as nothing but a palui with my head in the clouds.. which does befit my markings doesn't it? That's a bit off topic now isn't it, I'm afraid that can happen sometimes. I suppose it adds to my appearance, eh? Simple thoughts in my head, no real ideas besides a foolhardy trail here, maybe a simple prank there to keep someone on their toes there. But really, I'm more than that. Would you laugh if I told you so? I'm sure of it, but that doesn't bother me at all, no. Best to be taken lightly than have suspicious glances thrown your way because you are older than they. I was there for the rise of our new leader, but what he has in strength, I feel he lacks in presence of mind. And that poor young one, to lose a father and not be given the ranking he was born into, but you can't help what the wind blows your way. Nope, the wind has her own mind you know, giving a fate you don't expect, bringing the smoke and smell of those two-legged beings called humans closer, blowing it away another day. She is far more a trickster than I will ever be. Now don't look at me like that, you can't see the wind for what she is? A pity.
You know I could have been the leader if I tried? Haha, I don't much look the part now do I. No, no I don't.. an old cheery palui who could be past his prime? I play the part well, don't you think so? They look to me for my cheerful attitude and don't care to look past my exterior and see the sharp mind I have within. This leader we have could go far, if only he opened his mind and let it run, but he seems like the type who takes power for granted. A sad thing, really. His consort is crafty and if she shared some of that mind with him, but no. You see, this is why I don't strive to lead. Strength isn't my forte, but my mind's as sharp as any talon. But they'd see the lack of strength as a way in, and our little family here can't have that. We need a strong leader. A leader who can support us with his might against those that try to take our home, and that is far from me.
So, I will live in my own little bubble, be the cheerful spirit they need me to be and let the leader lead as he will. Whoever our leader will end up being. I wouldn't be a leader anyway, I can't help but repeat this, I'm not really cut from that stone. No, I'm the thinker with many a way to cheer my family's minds and keep them from worrying. It's a task fit for a king, isn't it? King of the cool vibes, perhaps I should go with that title for a while. That should bring some laughs from them don't you think? Ah now my mind wonders just what a vibe is to look like. Perhaps someone will know, or they shall look at me with that same tiny frown and flick of the ear that tells me that I'm a fool in their eyes. Aha, little do they know, eh? Such a pretty flower over there isn't it, perhaps I should remember this spot, or pick it to bring with me. But then it would be a while before another one like this grows again. I'll leave it, and come back to muse to myself, to you my good friend, the flower. You always listen to me, when they would turn away, or see my mind as a threat with how much I can think for them. You will never turn me away from our talks will you? Ah good, I was hoping you'd say that. I can always count on you to be my confidant.
