The sun shone luxuriously through the gently wavering leaves overhead. Things had been peaceful for a few Suns, but Kaa'lan knew it was unlikely to stay like this for any amount of time. He was say apart from his Nahele kin, paws busy preening dust and twigs from his long flowing silver tail and from his deep, darkly coloured body. He cared for his appearance as much as he cared for his position as the strongest in the clan, and it mattered greatly to him. The females were hardly likely to look at him if he looked like a scruffy scowndrel!!
Taking a break, gazing lovingly on the mushrooms that sproated from the base of his tail, lending him extraordinary strength, Kaa'lan chanced a glance to the sky. The sky above was palest blue, bleached to perfection by the warm sun. He wondered whether things would stay so quiet for long. After all, he saw the pale male who's title had been stolen from him. Kaa'lan couldn't sit by idly as a weaker male took control of the Coalition, after all, he had no bond with the mushrooms!! He surely had to have those before he could call himself Leader! Kaa'laa had a fine array of mushrooms, all neatly kept and growing successfully. He prided himself on his array, and cared for them daily. His horns were fully developed, which had been an advantage when fighting his way to the top. And his body! His muscles were pure power.
They had certainly got him some attention! That pretty pink female thought she had him in her paws, and she did, when she flashed her eyes to him, waggled her tail... But her soul was not the same as her appearance. Pink innocence was not reflected on her soul, and the hardened metallic edge of her eyes told him she had something up her sleeve. He was amused by her, no doubt, but he knew she was dangerous, craving power. He craved the power of Leader, no doubt to it, and he couldn't deny it, but he didn't want it like she wanted it... Or at least, how it could be viewed from outside that she wanted it.
Kaa'lan sighed and shook his head. He wouldn't think of her now. He wanted to enjoy the silence, spend some quality time in the sun. Glorious!
