Rustling the reeds not too far off from the beach, a vivid red tail sticks up above the tall grass before ducking down out of sight again and striking up more rustling headed for a patch of trees. The tail sticks up above the grass again and twitches a little bit as its owner focuses intently on her prey, a small grasshopper just inches from her paws.

Siats had wandered away lemongrass and was currently on his back rolling around and playing Peek-A-Boo with the Sun. In his peripheral vision he spied a splash of red. A Cardinal thought Siats, jumping to conclusion. With a quick tuck and roll he squirrled away in a pudgy butterball around the tall grass to attack from behind. He jumped into the air in hopes of catching the "Cardinal."

Khepri flicks her tail once and edges closer to her "prey" just a paw's length. Just a little closer and... the grasshopper wisely moves just out of reach yet again.
Scowling just a bit she starts edging after her quarry again, red tail tucked low between her hind legs as she tries to keep herself invisible. Well.. as invisible as a crimson palui surrounded by green and yellow grass can be.

Criminal. A crick in his back! A snap, ominous and crisp.
Mid-jump, Siats' body swapped one too many degrees. His silent ninja attack went horribly wrong. He couldn't even flip into a ball to break his fall. As inelegant as ever, he fell on his back onto the dusty ground.
Turning his head slightly, his eyelashes kissed a green grasshopper.
"Cricket?"

Khepri's ears p***k up at something and she sits up quickly to look around for what broke her concentration before the ungraceful thud of the male lands next to her grasshopper.
"My cricket." Tail flicking again she studies the other palui for a moment before her eyes land on the collar. "Jewelry? You wear it too? Only Anuk wears stuff like that."

Cranking his head back, Siats noticed his "cardinal" was closer, except it was a little long, and the elongated tail was attached to an a**. A red a**, cute though. That a** was connected to a torso and head. Red and gold.
Oh.
Another Palui, this one looked a little pissy.
But at the mentioning of jewelry, Siats was a little happy. "Who's Anuk? Yes, this colllar is my pride and joy. I jingle like windchimes."
Rubbing his eyes a little he rolled to his side to perch upright.
"Yo"

Khepri flicks her tail absently, waiting for him to answer. There, finally. Maybe he hit his head and had to wait for it to fall back together?
"Anuk's my big brother. He wears jewelry too, but not there. his is in his ears, and on his paw. His paw jingles if he shakes it." A red ear flicks in time with the word 'shake' absently.
"Yo? Is that your name? Hi Yo I'm Khepri."

The left eye and right ear twitched simultaneously. "Nooo, Kelpie, my name is Siats."
His head ticked back and forth, right to left. This Anuk seemed interesting, a real bling blinger. Perhaps they could all hang out if the red palui and him could get along. Three's company or something. He got that phrase out of his subconscious.
In a sing-song voice he crooned, "I apologize if you were hunting that green cricket thing. Shall we rejoin the hunt or look for fun elsewhere?"

"Kelpie? I said Khepri!" Yellow gold eyes narrow for only a second as her tail flicks the mispronunciation away. "Siats. Then what's Yo?"
Watching him, and that collar for a moment her attention drifts away until her grasshopper is brought to the topic again. "What else is there besides hunting grasshoppers and crickets? They squeak when you jump on them!"

Siats cringed when his own folly was brought to attention. He had a terrible time paying attention especially since the other Palui had golden fur that shined in the sun. Like really shiny gold, sun or urine on snow he thought. Moving onto lighter topics he answered:
"Yo is a form of greeting. Salutations, Hey DAWG or WHAZZZZUP can be viewed as appropriate." Really, he was babbling but the gold fur was just so distracting. He almost forgot about the jewelry wearing Anuk. Tragic, really.
Feigning horror he started, "Do you actually eat them? I'm a strict virgin. That means I don't eat meat"

There he went again taking a while to answer. Maybe he just thinks slower? Another flick of the tail and she decides that this must be the answer.
Another flick of the ear and she stares at him for a good while. "Dawg?" Her tail thumps the ground loudly. "No I don't EAT them! i play with them! They're fun."

"Fun?" He had a hard time imagining what other things Khepri thought was entertaining. "So, I bet you enjoy tearing wings off of butterflies?"
Not that he was curious. He just wanted to know how mentally sound and safe she was. Ultimately, it came down to whether or not Siats could turn his back on her. He was a much more relaxed, chilled out Palui. It wasn't so much that he was lazy, perhaps unmotivated. This firecracker Khepri seemed lively. Hell in a handbasket! Her eyes twinkled the most when she mentioned the squeaking.

"Butterflies??" That made her pause for a moment. "I don't touch those. Anuk says they have powder on their wings that doesn't come off and tastes bad if you try licking it off your fur. But they're fun watching!"
Khepri watches him a little more closely to figure out just why he'd changed from talking about grasshoppers to butterflies anyway.

Siats yawned. He was a palui of auction. Yes, he met some other Palui today but conversation was getting stilted and contrived. He was itching to get his joints arolling with all this talk of catching some bug or eating powder. He would give flying a chance, too.
Bringing his otherwise upbeat, perky tail with a noticeable thud he suggested, "Let's DO something. This island is prime real estate. We can go eat bugs if you like" to demonstrate, Siats used both paws in the air to squeeze air "or we can go HUNT" a wild look shone in his eyes.
Really, this carefree Palui just wanted to get moving to hear his own jingle.

Khepri watches his teeth for a few seconds when Siats yawns, flicking her tail a bit. He couldn't be tired it was warm and sunny!
"Do something... Oh hunting sounds fun! But what do you want to hunt? There's butterflies that live where all those trees are, or grasshoppers or.. or.. something else."
