“Hey Tsu?” Zave floated into the living room from the hallway, “Can I ask you something?” It was quite apparent that Zave would continue to block the TV set until he was satisfied with the answer.

“Sure.” Tsu switched off the set and turned to look at the young raevan. It was hard to believe one year had already passed since Zave had been ‘born’. “Nothing good on anyway. What’s up?”

Zave took a deep breath before dropping the bombshell. “What is it like to die? Does it hurt?”

“Huh?! W- Why this sort of question all of a sudden??” Tsu spluttered, choking on the lukewarm coffee that he had been drinking, “Did something happen?”

“Not to Kai or myself anyway.” Zave reassured the doctor, “What about Meli or Roux though? Was Roux in that ice thing? Does that mean he died? What about Chloe?!? And Meli? She looked so sad. I have seen her since we went singing as well. What happened?”

“Whoa, whoa. Calm down. You know I can’t keep up with you when your brain is running crazy like that. First off, Roux is made of an essence of Ice that never melts. To be closed in that Ice chunk would actually be better for him to feed himself… to some extent anyway. Next, I don’t know what happened to Chloe. I’m sure she’s fine and something will come of that situation. Finally, with Meli… well… it’s going to take some time for her to get better. The medicine should help, but it doesn’t work miracles.” Tsu explained calmly.

“Well what about death? What’s it like to die?”

“Death is… just a natural part of life. We’re born, we live for some period of time, and then at some point, we pass on. I don’t know if it’s the same or not for Raevans. That is something I hope to find out by watching you grow up.”

“You explained to Aki something about souls? What was that?”

“Ummmm…. You heard that? Well, the thing is that even I don’t think we can recover a raevan’s soul if they lose their life. There aren’t enough fel essences for ‘Do-over’s at this point. Besides, there is a chance you’d have no memories of your previous life.”

“So I was once something else? Do you know what it was?”

“Nnnn… That’s something I really can’t tell you right now. I know we promised not to keep secrets from each other, but this is something I need time to work out. I’m sorry. What’s been bugging you about this anyway? You’ve been so gloomy lately.”

“It’s nothing really.” Zave said brushing off the question, “Just lately a lot of strange things have been happening. I don’t have a good feeling about it is all.”

"Before I go... I do have one more question. How do you feel about everything lately? About seeing Meli like that and Chloe going missing." Zave turned and looked at Tsu curiously.

"How do I feel?" Tsu laughed "I guess I don't like it... but in another way, it's my job to look after people that are sick or have other problems. There really is no feeling to it."

Tsu watched as Zave retreated back into his room. Checking to make sure Zave was not spying on him, Tsu went and pulled out a notebook from his desk drawer.

Zave is acting odd about a lot of different things. I wonder if he suspects something from me. Perhaps I should tell him all I know, and all that’s happened. He’ll probably hate me for a while. Especially after everything I’ve done, but I’d rather he’d hate me now. It would be much worse to find out the truth from another source after all.

========== ==========

That night Zave was writing in the journal that Tsu gave him. The first few pages were just full of scribbles and lines, as he had been trying to learn how to write. His characters were still like mere scribbles, but at least he could make out things now.

Tsu scares me. How can he see hurt and sick people like that? He doesn’t even blink. I don’t like that at all. Meli… is hurt. I think Riv hurt her. Riv is my friend… but he hurt someone else I like? I know he has his reasons, but I can’t forgive him for that. Not yet.

Tsu is also hiding something. Even though it’s about me, he won’t talk about it. Sometimes I know he’s writing in a book like mine, but whenever I go to look, he hides the book once again. I think I'll stay home tomorrow and try to find out what he writes in that notebook. I want to know. I need to know… After all I couldn’t talk about my weird dreams until I know what they are about.

Zavier closed his journal and began to float about restlessly again. He knows he doesn't really need to sleep... just get energy from the storms. However there was something nagging at him... something he just couldn't quite make out... when he closed his eyes. Finally making up his mind, Zave floated over to a place where the bed should be and closed his eyes.

I wonder if I'll see that same scene tonight Zave thought passively as he fell into his fitful slumber.

The clouds already started gathering around the apartment as Tsu made his way to the office. Zave had claimed he wasn't feeling that well and wanted to sleep in, so Tsu didn't press the matter any. Zave was mature enough to take care of himself... besides this storm coming might give Zave back some energy. He hadn't seen Zave feed in a long while after all.... so maybe he was just malnourished?

"In any case, I better hurry..." Tsu muttered, "I'm already late, but I don't really feel like being caught out in the rain today. Odd how this storm is coming out of nowhere though.... gives off a bad feeling." Pushing the thoughts of bad omens and forgetting something very important, Tsu rushed off to the beach shack hoping it wouldn't blow away in the wind or anything.

========== ==========

Zave had his own reasons for staying home that day. He finally had narrowed down where Tsu hid the journal that he kept writing things in. As he had been sulking around the kitchen, Zave also noticed that in his rushing, Tsu forgot to keep the key he normally wears around his neck. If he could find that as well, then the journal and its contents were within reach.

Going out on the balcony, Zave gazed up at the growing mass of clouds. He felt some of his energy start to flow into his body. Sure signs that a new storm was coming. However, he also felt oddly anxious with this storm. As if he was close to something that he had lost long ago. "Well, I better get to finding that journal. I can't think of anything else right now..." Zave said aloud to no one in particular. Maybe the wind would listen to him though.

========== ==========

Step one was rather simple ever since Kai had found some weird websites. Particularly the ones on picking locks were proving to be very useful for exploring areas that Tsu didn't want the kids to wander into. Primarily the porn and alcohol stashes... but those weren't any of the goals for today. The key to the journal had to be somewhere in Tsu's bedroom.

Carefully using the thin blade that Kai had convinced him to buy, Zave moved around the tumbler. After a few minutes of sweaty cursing, Zave heard the first pin shift in the tumbler. Only four more to go and the door would be unlocked. "This seems so much easier in movies. I kind of forgot that it's a complete pain in the a**."

Finally after 45 minutes of work, the door to Tsu's room stood open. Zave floated around cautiously, looking out for anything out of the ordinary. Tsu could be hiding any possible way to know someone entered his room. Zave thought to himself Although with this mess, it's hard to tell if it's just genius or poor housekeeping...

Hanging on the night stand right next to the bed was the key. After gingerly lifting the key and chain off the hook, Zave jumped back expecting the worst. Nothing. No flares, no warning bells, no strange odors, nothing but a relieved sigh from the raevan. "Now time to move onto the study where the journal is." Zave said, making sure that the door locked properly behind him. Last thing he needed was to destroy Tsu's lock to his room.

========== ==========

I actually kinda feel like some tomb raider this way Zave thought, giving some odd story to help keep the excitement going. The study was always unlocked so the kids could use the computer to play games or watch movies. The journal was always right there, just out of reach. But not today... he'd find out what Tsu was writing all those times. "It seems stupid to try and find out all his dirty thoughts. After all... there's no helping that pervert."

With a shaking hand, Zave unlocked the drawer that kept the journal. Lifting out the leather bound book. Zave opened and flipped through the last pages that had writing on them.

Confused, Zave flipped a few more pages, skimming here and there for any information about what he was seeing in his dreams. "I just want to know what's happening to me." Reaching the first few pages that had writing, Zave nearly dropped the book. First the page about how he was killed by Tsu before. Then the fact that he was just part of Tsu's plot to be an experiment. The rage built up inside him until everything was turned upside down.

He betrayed me... he betrayed me... he betrayed me he betrayed me he betrayed me... HE BETRAYED ME!!!!!

Zave's roaring could not be heard over the raging of the storm outside.

========== ==========

Tsu closed the offices down early that day. With a storm like this, no one in their right minds would come to the clinic anyway. To be honest, storm was too light of a word. It was more like a maelstrom the way the winds were carrying on. Besides, something might be wrong with Zavier. He wasn't feeling too well earlier today. I didn't get a chance to check up on him since then.

Getting closer to the apartments, Tsu noticed that the winds and rain was even stronger there. Almost as if the power was focused somewhere near that point. It COULDN'T be....Zave wouldn't be out in this weather, would he?!? Sprinting the final blocks to the apartment complex, Tsu hurried up the steps and to the elevator.

Unlocking the door and stepping into the apartment, it suddenly hit Tsu what he forgot. The other key he was supposed to have, to keep his journal locked away from Zave seeing before the time was right.

"Zave? Zave? Are you here? We need to talk."

"Talk? That time has long passed. You had so many chances, and yet you said nothing. You betrayed me."

"I'm sorry I kept a lot from you--"

"You're sorry?!? That's it? Did you not think I deserved to know about my past and what was going on?!?"

"I was worried about how you'd take it...."

"I would have taken it better than finding out for myself!!!!" Zave screamed throwing the journal at Tsu. "Do me a favor and don't stop me from finding out more about this. I can't trust you anymore."

Before Tsu could say anything more Zave stormed out towards the beach for some time alone.

I've really screwed things up this time.... Hopefully he'll come around, but I don't know how much time that will take.

If Tsu had only realized these were the first steps for Zavier planning on summoning a storm himself. Maybe then Zave would understand finally what it was like to have a place to belong. Or a family that wouldn't lie to him.

Halloween Spectacular

During the ride back to the apartment, the atmosphere was cold and oppressing. Neither Tsu nor Zave were speaking to each other for the moment, as the guardian was having a hard time finding a good topic to talk about, and his charge was not making it any easier. The sound of water dripping off his nose was the only thing breaking the dead silence.

Zave couldn't help but bust out laughing thinking about how Tsu belly flopped into the water so disgracefully. It's a shame that we didn't put jello into the pool to make him that much messier. Zave thought to himself, suppressing a mischievous grin. That would be a trick to play another year perhaps...

Tsu stole another glance over at his charge and finally built up the courage to speak. "So did you have fun at the party? I noticed you were hanging around Lazarus a lot. It's good to see you and Laz have been getting along well together as of late, seeing how you live under the same roof for the time being... but what about meeting some of the other raevans?"

Zave looked out the window and pretending not to notice all of Tsu's looks, as well as the attempts to be like a father all of a sudden. "Well... It's easy to talk to Laz. All the other raevans seemed pretty occupied with other people at the time. You know I'm not one for being the center of attention intentionally. Besides... All the raevans will have to come in for a check up at some point. I can always just meet them then."

There was certainly logic to what Zave was saying, but he also put it in such an icy way, Tsu had a hard time not firing back some sort of insult. Instead he just hurrumphed. The silent storm raged between the two all the way back to the apartment. Not a lot could be said now to undo all that was found out these past few weeks anyway.

The dreams had been coming for a few months now. Every time more and more vivid. Zave found himself in a large open room, confused about where he was and where his friends and family were. A feeling of rage and being lost swept over him as he stared down at something - Tsu? - standing with his back to him. In the corner there were signs that someone had been sleeping over there.

Beneath his feet was a crudely drawn summoning circle. Panic finally sinking in, he couldn't help but go wild. The creature dodged, and circled around, was he going to attack? He couldn't tell. Without meaning to, he reacted. An explosion of paper and noise. Suddenly things were different, the other came faster, pain was shooting through his body. He felt heavy... slowly he fell. After that, everything went black.

Zave was tired of trying to figure out what they meant. He'd spend so much time wandering the streets alone, trying to puzzle them out. In his times of slumber the dreams would come flooding in. In his waking moments, they would linger and his mind felt numb and heavy. He just wanted answers for who he was. Tsu had left behind more questions than anything else either. Even though months had passed since the incident, proud rage riled up every time he thought about how Tsu lied. They talked finally, but things were definitely not the same as they were before.

========== ==========

One day, Zave was in his habit of wandering the back alleys and streets with no real purpose. Suddenly a voice rang out "You seem lost young one, perhaps I can help guide you along your way..."

Having been snapped out of his reverie, Zave looked around bewildered. He was in an alleyway he had never seen before and wondered a little bit about how he got there. The only other person was some mysterious figure covered up in a shawl. One of those people you can't but help feel is being phony for something they really want. I'll just go on... nothing they can help me with...

"I see... a muddle of images. An open room, an abandoned building. Fear and pain. A man, a summoning ring."

The words creepily hit home with Zave, and he slowed down. "Then what exactly am I supposed to do?" He asked incredulously. "...and how much is this going to cost me? I'm afraid I don't have many bills on me."

"Money is a small matter. Your payment will be much more than just something so... material. In order to find the answers you seek, you must search the old gods. Go beyond the storm to the heart of the maelstrom. Back... back to where it all started."

"....that's vague..." Zave muttered. He only hoped in time that it would be made clearer to him. Where did it all begin? Didn't Tsu mention a location in the journal? Zave didn't want to face that again though. Thinking darkly about how to handle everything, Zave made his way home.

========== ==========

By time Zave got back to the apartment, dusk had already fallen. He was tired and confused and wanted someone to talk to... but who? Maybe Laz? He'd have to think about it.

"I'm home." Zavier called listlessly through the house out of habit.

"Welcome back." Tsu called back. "You had a call while you were out. Who was it again? Oh... right... Meli called."

"Ah... alright." Zave repeated automatically, the reality of the words not quite sinking in. "Wait... WHO?!?"

"Melisande. She said she wanted to meet you. Tomorrow. Here's the address and time." Slipping Zave a piece of paper, Tsu made his way down the hallway to his room. "Try not to keep her waiting too much, huh? They say another storm is on it's way."

"I don't need you to tell me what to do!" Zave huffed as he looked down at the sheet, blushing.

That night, Zave had the same dream again... but he didn't seem to care as much. Maybe Meli would have some insight into a good path to take. That is, if he had the courage to ask her.

[OP] Summer Beach Blowout!

Ah, summer! A time for young raevans to meet old and new faces, while their owners wash responsibility away with the help of alcohol. Events include a pie eating contest, a limbo, paintball, all the way up to a bonfire with story telling. It's a shame that Zave had to leave early and miss spending time with Meli under the stars.

"Tsu!! What do you think you're doing narrating like that?!?" Zave chided his owner with a reproachful glare, floating weakly in the doorway.

"I'm just writing some memories down before we forget them all.... and shouldn't you be resting?" Tsu looked at his charge with a bit of concern. "I went ahead and let Lazarus know you'll be in tomorrow to start a check up. You're most familiar with the drill... so maybe bring any questions you want answered."

With that Tsu turned out the lights to his office and went to bed himself. The alcohol had worked out of his system for the most part, and he was tired more than anything else.

That night, Zave had the most vivid dream to date of his 'death'. In it... his old name, "Sleipnir" could be heard ringing through the halls. However, Zavier was too tired to be woken up by this, as he slept fitfully through the summer heat.

[PRP - CHECKUP] Before the Rains

Now that Zavier has been noted for having some mild symptoms of exhaustion from not only the fitful sleeping, but not being able to eat as much... he really needs to be more careful. Hopefully finding out some of the answers behind his dreams, and who he really was will help out. His friend, Lazarus comes to the rescue with some books that might give a little more insight, including an answer for the oracle's mysterious words of how to weather a storm. Hopefully the maelstrom won't sweep him away. The journey has just begun.

[PRP] Something in the Air

It has been a long, cold autumn and winter, but it seems as though the promises of an early spring have started to bloom. For Meli and Zave the winds might have more in store for them than anything they first imagined. The songbirds have started their melodies for one of the Labs cutest (biased opinion) couples. Sometimes unexpected visits lead to the greatest treasures.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:53 pm

Ever since meeting Melisande, Zave had started to realize that there was a lot of things about himself that he wanted to change. He wasn't ready to just drift through life carelessly, and somehow the female had set a motivation to grow, not just physically... but also mentally. Realizing this, Zave began to notice how little of the world he knew about. Sure he heard stories about the four corners of the world from the winds, but that was about it.

The gentle Eastern winds had used to tell him of tales of far off lands where mythical creatures had once lived: of elves and dragons, kings and kingdoms long forgotten. These tales of adventure always had ruins to explore, new fragrances carried on the wind, and the rest was left up to his imagination.

The playful Southern winds would sing of their golden kissed beaches, scantily clad women, and all the temptations of the tropical lands. Quite frankly, whenever the southern winds visited, Zave was left wondering why Tsu had never bothered to move down there. Tsu just made a comment about how the tropical storms were nothing to sneeze at, but that just made Zave more curious. If there were storms, Tsu should find it great for feeding his raevan. Of course, commuting to work would be a chore.

The stern northern winds would lecture about the dangers of the world. The lands of ice, snow, and jagged peaks of a sky riddled with the stone spires of the mountains. Although the lands to the north sounded interesting, they also came across as rather lonely... since there were not many adventurers willing to wander into the lands. If they did, they were almost always unprepared for the challenges that met them there. Although Zave wanted to see a land that he had never been to before, the talks about the worst that could happen seemed a little daunting, and not fit for a first adventure.

The western winds had actually seemed the most promising. Carrying along words of war and adventure, magic and science. There was a balance of everything that the mind could imagine and hope for. In most cases, the lands were far across seas, and not accessible to a youth; but there were stories of a cave in the mountains where a great wind mage used to live alone from the stresses of the surrounding villages and wars.

“I’d really love to see those caves for myself. Zave mused to himself. Although it was doubtful the mage was still alive, maybe there would be something there for learning magicks or even any other sort of relics of the wars. It would always be interesting to see at the very least.

However, every time he asked about the cave, the winds would change. The normally gentle Western wind would grow distant and cold. Only small words could be made out, and there was an edge in the air warning Zave not to press on too far. Even with all the warnings from the western wind, Zave was still curious and wanted to see what the cave was like, but the other winds would not talk. Grudgingly, and with guarded words, the Northern winds told about the location of the cave, and that it was a place that no one should dare travel. Those that were foolish enough to try and enter had never been heard of again. Yet the words of caution fell on deaf ears. Once he knew the location, Zave wanted to go more than ever.

“C’mon, Tsu!!!” Zave pleaded, “I’m one of the few raevans left that hasn’t been able to use my powers for anything. Going to this cave would be a good way to find out about how to manipulate wind at the very least.”

Tsu crossed his arms and blew out a stream of smoke thoughtfully. “I don’t really feel comfortable with you going alone on this. I realize you’re mature and quick witted, but the fact that you don’t have something like magic to back you up in this case is more than a little worrying. If anything were to happen to you out there…”

“This is the one time I’m going to ask you a favor. I really want to do this. It’s not some simple plan to steal riches or break the rules. It’s a chance for me possibly make myself better than before, someone that could overcome other obstacles. Besides, you said it yourself. I’m quick witted. Even in a pinch, I could find a way to get myself out of sticky situations, as long as I use reason and look at the larger picture.”

With Zave’s arguments, Tsu could do nothing but sigh in agreement. It was obvious that the raevan was going to keep pressing until he got his way, or in a worst-case scenario, Zave might even go off on his own and not let anyone know where he was. Sometimes a guardian has to let his charges go off and make mistakes for themselves.

“All right… you can go. But I want you to bring a cell phone to contact me in case of emergency. I don’t care if the cave is near or far from here. The rules are that you call if you get over your head. Break this and I’ll have a hard time trusting you.”

“Thanks. I’ll make sure to be safe, so you won’t have to worry.”

“I’ll worry, even if I don’t have to.”

“Stop it… this is really unlike you. Normally you’d be pushing a porno magazine on me or something by now.”

“You really are growing up. You’ve finally come to recognize the joys of a beautiful woman and her bountiful breasts? Or is that only with Mel…”

“….... Don’t. Make. Me. Hit. You.”

How Zave was able to make every tone sound the same through gritted teeth, no one would really quite be sure. Still, it was perfectly effective for keeping even a pervert like Tsu in line.

By the second week of travel, Zave was starting to feel the wear and tear of travel. Although the winds had told him he was getting closer to the cave, and just a bit further along in the mountains, Zave had completely underestimated the travel sense of the winds, and the spirits of the winds had no idea how far they really traveled. Sure enough, the weather at the bases of the mountains had become much harsher than the peaceful slumber that fell over the valleys below, and a far difference from the warm grays of the beaches that Zave and Tsu lived near. The difference in weather, coupled with the distance covered succeeded in cementing how small Zave’s world really had been.
The bag that Tsu had forced him to take along had ended being a lifesaver. Although Tsu had times of being pigheaded, selfish, and perverted, he did have some redeeming qualities that came across like an older brother, or parent. Still, there was no changing the fact that Tsu was perverted. Zave had even had to check there weren’t any dirty magazines in the bag before he had left early in the morning. Instead, Zave had found a lantern, sleeping bag, a warm coat, bottled water, a map, a compass and a cell phone packed away, all the things that Tsu usually took with him when he went out to gather herbs that can’t be found close to the city limits.

”Who knew that Tsu would come in handy at times like these?” Zave pondered aloud, really wishing there was some traveling companion there to keep him from feeling completely alone. The nights could sometimes be the worst, but the sleeping bag and jacket provided helped to cut down on the chill. Not to mention that the stars made up for how cold it got at night. It was almost as though one could be swallowed up by the sky, the way the stars stretched across the horizon forever. During these times, Zave would like to relax by just staring up at the sky, or else writing in his journal about the things he saw that day.

It took three long weeks for Zave to finally locate the cave that the northern wind had told him about, nestled into one of the most jagged mountain peaks in the range. The only telltale signs of the cave were the abnormally strong winds surrounding the area. These were unlike any that Zave had ever come across yet. There was something familiar about it, but at the same time, a feeling of loss and anger washed over him. There was little that Zave could do but suck in his breath and the sheer pressure emitted from the cave.

Steeling his nerve, Zave pressed on to enter the cave. He barely made it a few meters before a strong gust that chilled him to the core forced him back again. The winds howled and raged, ”Go back!!! Get out!!! Leave him be!” but Zave had no idea why they acted that way. Pressing into the cave once again, Zave was turned back once more, this time receiving some cuts to the backs of his hands and face. The small streams of blood that trickled down tickled and Zave tried to brush the feeling away with one of the sleeves of the jacket.

Finding a stone near the entrance, Zave threw it as hard as he could, but the wind shattered the stone before it could get a few inches in. Quickly covering his face, he felt a few more shards graze past his cheekbones, and new fresh traces of warmth running down the left side of his face. Sighing, Zave gave up on that idea of using other objects to help him get into the cavern. It was just too frustrating though. He had come all this way, only to be turned away at the door.

Biting back his frustration and anger a bit, Zave called aloud, ”Why do you fight back so much? What in there that you’re trying to protect?”

”Leave us alone! Murderer! Backstabber!!” The western winds shrieked through the cavern.

Pushing against the wind with his mind, Zave fought back, ”I’ve done nothing to you! You keep on pulling these one sided accusations against me. I just came to see where the famous wind mage lived!!”

With those words, an extra strong blast pushed through Zave and sent him reeling back against a wall. ”Stay away from him! Only I loved him! You can’t understand what it’s like to lose someone you love!!”

The words brushed against the back of Zave’s mind and called up old memories of the night he started his fight with Tsu in the first place. It was true… he didn’t know what it was like to lose someone he loved in that way, but he didn’t know what he lost in the process. Somehow that seemed to be more saddening than at least getting to spend time with the one he loved. If he lost Meli…? Well… he didn’t even want to finish that thought, but as the thoughts swelled up in his head one by one, Zave slowly began to lose more and more patience with the wind. His own anger seemed to make his head throb.

How Tsu had managed to stay so calm when he threw that tantrum was beyond Zave. As much as he hated to admit it, he was impressed. However, this wind was doing nothing logical but moaning and causing destruction. Clenching his fist, Zave pressed on. The swelling anger in him pushed him forward. His forehead throbbed more and more as he pressed against the wind with all of his mind.

”I may not understand what it was like when you lost the one you loved,” Zave admitted through gritted teeth, ”but that still does not change the fact that I have lost ones I’ve held dear, too! Don’t you dare go about making accusations assuming you know what the other person.”

”I loved him and they took him! No one ever loved him more than me!” The winds tried to push harder against Zave, tearing at the jacket, but he managed to press on further.

”At least you got to spend time with the one you love!” Zave spat back at the winds, his voice growing hoarse from all the screaming. ”By the time I was ‘born’ I didn’t know where I came from or anything. I only found out because my guardian had left notes in a journal. Do you know what that feels like? Not knowing where you belong? It’d be easier to part with the person if you never met them in the first place, sure… but you don’t even get to know if you loved them or they loved you back.” Wiping tears from his eyes, Zave pushed further into the cave. Only a few meters left and he’d be into the main cavern.

”I swore that I’d protect Santhon until the end, and if that means ripping apart those that would desecrate his grave, then so be it.” As if the wind was settled on what she had to do, she released all her energies at once towards Zave.

”Would you even listen to yourself?!” Zave’s anger reached a peak. He roared over the wind ”If you loved Santhon so much, you wouldn’t want to make him sad, even in the afterlife…. And if he loved you, he would never ask you to dirty your hands for him! Stop letting yourself get blinded by your emotions!!” The words rang out like rolling thunder through the caverns. With one final push, he silenced the wind and made his way through to where the mage had pulled his last dying breath.

”So this is Santhon,” Zave murmured softly, looking at the skeleton that remained on the ground. There were a few scraps of clothing still left scattered about, but the most noticeable was the silver glint of a spearhead still lodged into the backbone of the famed mage.

”He was betrayed by the one he thought of as a student. The young apprentice wanted all the power of the winds… so he snuck out to the battle grounds, and finding a spear, he snuck back in… and like a coward, stabbed Santhon in the back.” The western wind seemed to lose all of her former power and just give into the fact that she couldn’t protect her loved one any more.

Feeling sorry for the western wind that resided in the cave, Zave straightened himself weakly and made his way over to the side of Santhon. ”Let’s bury him, so he can at least remain in peace,” he finally offered. Gingerly pulling the spear out of the backbone, Zave noticed the blade glimmered a bright blue, casting a soft glow over everything.

”Take the blade,” the wind sighed, ”it causes too much pain for me to look at it.”

”Thank you,” Zave bowed, ”Is there a place you’d like to let the body rest?”

”Santhon was always fond of the view across the mountains… I wish there was a way to let him look out there forever.”

Thinking about it, Zave moved the body towards the front of the cavern, and finding a suitable place that wasn’t covered in snow, he began to dig at the hardened ground. It was hard work, but after a few days time, the hole was finally deep enough to place the body in. Once all was said and done, Zave made his way back into the cave, and for the first time since he could remember, he closed his eyes and slept.
