Dr. Tsu ~ Zavier
Aki Ana ~ Melisande

~

The wind was steady, pushing with the eager promise of a young storm. No matter how many times Melisande tucked her curls behind her ears, the breeze drove them forward again…whipping them against her cheek, and plastering her pale jacket against the small of her back. Petals tugged free from Pasha’s nodding blossoms and tumbled along wild, invisible currents until they vanished from sight.

The trees from the little orchard nearby clacked and whispered, branches bare but for a few shivering leaves. The orchard surrounded a small manor, which seemed almost peacefully ignorant of the storm that stirred its gardens. Melisande waited outside the gate, fingers laced into the cold iron scrollwork for support against the wind. Despite the weather, she smiled…a tiny, hard to see smile hidden behind dancing curls. The manor would wait.

First, she wanted to see her friend.

Zavier was rushing headlong into the wind. The gates of the manor should be coming up shortly. However, it was hard to see as the strong gusts made the young raevan shield his eyes from the onslaught.

I wonder what that call was all about? he mused to himself, although, to be honest, I wouldn't mind having an excuse to see Meli again. Thoughts of the raevan sprung forth into his mind again, and despite the coolness of the day, he felt warm all over. Now if only he could build up the nerve to talk to her alone. Something about the way she was, made him lose his words.

The scent of petals was carried on the wind. Before Zave was a set of solid iron gates, and before them a young raevan. More similar to Lazarus, but not his "older brother." Something was familiar, and yet somehow different. Tentatively, Zave called out, hoping not to have the wrong person...

"... Meli...?" even when he was shouting at the top of his voice, it felt like the on coming storm was whipping his words out and washing over them. He hoped his excitement to see her would be passed along.

"Zavier." Despite the wind that snatched at his words, Melisande's voice somehow seemed to carry, and his name was warmly spoken. She waited until the distance between them shortened to continue.

"I wanted...to say thank you." The breeze slacked for a moment, letting her curls settle and frame her face as she smiled. "Thank you for coming, and...thank you for trying." The wind kicked back up a heartbeat later, pushing Pasha closer to Zavier. She rested one hand against his chest absently, curls drifting forward as she met his eyes. It made her feel lightheaded, to be so close to him. It made her feel safe.

"So...thank you."

It wouldn't matter if it were a snowstorm that the two were caught in. That moment, Zave felt a warmth spread through his body that he had never felt before. He hoped that it wasn't bringing forth that much red to his face. How would he explain why he lit up like a ripe tomato after all? Still, when his eyes met with Pasha's, he felt like he was just frozen there. Oddly it wasn't fear or anything of that like. He was just awestruck.

"I wish I could have been there more for you back then." he said, but realized that he probably could have made matters worse. "But I'm truly glad you called me to come today. Thank you."

Finally breaking his gaze a little regretfully from Meli and up to the iron wrought gates that led to the manor. Moving to hold her hand slightly before hesistating, Zave looked back at Meli with a smile on his face and said "Shall we see what's inside? while offering his hand to her.

The oracle had been right. Maybe there would be answers in the wildest of storms yet to come. Even the promises of the storm through the day made Zave's spirit start to soar a little higher.

Melisande smiled to see his wind kissed cheeks, the slightest pink behind white whipping hair. When she watched Zavier, Meli felt as though she could see the rhythm behind the storm...she could see the deep strength of it catch and fill his wings, and the darting high notes that toyed with his ribbon and hair. As she took his hand, gently lacing her fingers with his, the rhythm seemed to cycle, and she tucked away the wild notes into her memory before they were forgotten.

If she were ever lonely, Melisande was sure she could hum them, and they would remind her of Zae.

"I'd like that." His smile was so warm, Pasha almost forgot what she was agreeing too. Oh yes, what was inside! The growing storm pushed and pulled, making her jacket gather a bit at her waist, but Meli smoothed it...running her free hand down along her side. The iron bars were generously spaced...if they turned sideways, maybe they could fit right through!

"Up a bit...there. See it?" Pasha lifted one finger to point, through the trees to the second story of the manor. The shutters of a single window stood open, curtains fluttering as the window itself was raised a few scant inches. If they could just get that high up, the window would be the easiest way in.

"Aki said..to 'let it be.' But...there are things I'd like to see, and things I'd like to show you."

She gave Zae's hand a gentle squeeze, and twisted to meet his eyes again. Curiosity was written clearly across her face, and affection crinkled at the corners of Melisande's blue eyes. "If you think we shouldn't, though...I'll trust you."

Things suddenly seemed sharper when Meli held Zave's hand. The scent of the blossoms in her hair, the sounds of the wind seemed to take on their own tones. It was almost as if a haze had been lifted from around his head and he was seeing things clearer than ever before. Was this how Meli saw things all the time...?

Zave looked again in Meli's eyes and a true smile radiated from him. It touched him that she would consider what he wanted to mind, but he wanted nothing more than this opportunity to spend time with her after all. His heart had nearly skipped a beat when she interlocked her fingers with his.

"Oh, I see it! I think we'll just need to find a secure path to get up to that window." the frei said while glancing at the window that Meli had pointed out. "You said there are things you'd like to see? Then I think we should go see them." Zave continued, puzzled at the look of curiosity. "Just please don't force yourself to do something you won't want to. I promise I'll stand by your side no matter which you choose."

As if to reaffirm, he returned a gentle squeeze into Meli's hand. He had no desire to pull her eyes away from hers, but the iron gate itself was going to force them to turn sideways. If he remained greedy constantly, they'd never get anywhere. Having cleared the first obstacle together the two were on their way toward the mansion hand in hand. Proof that he wasn't going to leave her alone.

"I want to." Melisande's voice was soft, quiet determination adding just a hint of strength. She glanced up sidelong at the window as Zavier edged through the gate. Pasha met his gaze again once they were through, under the rustling canopy of dry orchard branches. "I think, if we're together...we could do anything!"

Pasha's sentiment brought pink to her cheeks, but she didn't drop her eyes. She truly meant the words she spoke, and her faith seemed almost a tangible thing between them. The first breath of inspiration Melisande had ever offered settled gently on Zavier, invigorating and encouraging. With a smile, she brought their joined hands to her face, and pressed the back of his hand against her cheek for just a moment before turning to the storm tossed trees. One of her delicate wings spread and angled, trying to find balance against the wind.

"I'm ready!"

"I think, if we're together...we could do anything!"

If Meli's pinks were tinged with pink after saying something like that, Zave could only imagine how red he was getting. Meli was the first person to tell him anything like that, after all, but something in the way she said it, Zave felt like he could put faith in that too.

Smiling at her, Zave agreed wholeheartedly with the sentiment. "Yes, I think as long as we're together, nothing will stand in our way!" Even though he felt a little self conscious doing so, he met her eyes. As Meli's cheek touched the back of his hand, a strange sensation filled Zave's body from deep within his chest. It was almost like a warm breeze was settling in and quiet was setting before a much more powerful storm. However, in the quiet, he could hear the patterns of the wind more clearly.

Before the craziness would be able to set in, Zave decided to tell Meli everything he had figured out about his dreams, and what the oracle had told him. He wanted her opinion, he needed it almost. He wasn't if it was just respect for her, or something more; but deep down he knew that he wanted to confide this in her. "When we get inside, there's something I'd like to share with you too." he said. Hopefully she'd agree. It's not like he's really put himself on the line before this.

As he spread his wings for the first time, a random image popped into his mind - one of a waltz. Following the whim, Zave turned to face Meli. He ever so cautiously bowed to Meli before saying, "May I have this dance?"

Something he’d like to share? Melisande tilted her head, one curl sliding coyly across her cheek as she considered him with a little smile. She had no idea what his secret was, but in truth, it did not matter what it turned out to be. His quiet words stirred a sweet contentment within her, something she almost wanted to bask in, like a cat in a sunbeam. ”I would like that, Zavier.” A tiny, pale bud furled almost imperceptibly behind her ear, delicate petals stirring in the wind.

She had spent so long in a gray world that Pasha was almost dizzy with the comfort of Zavier’s bright company. This was a perfect day, storm and all, and no sooner had that thought crossed her mind when Zavier carefully bowed. Wide eyed, pink resting high on her cheeks, Melisande listened to his lovely, unexpected offer. Dance? An entirely new feeling settled deep within her, and though she’d never heard the expression, it made her feel as though she was full of tumbling butterflies. Folding one hand over her slender stomach, pressing just for a moment, Melisande tried to find her voice.

”I…yes. Yes!” She watched his pale wings spread with almost helpless admiration, taken with the grace with which he held himself so effortlessly on the wind. Borrowing some of that grace as her own, Melisande dipped in a tiny curtsy before she pulled herself straight…the small of her back arching as she drifted forward to close the distance between them. As soon as they were close, the nervousness faded. Even though she had never danced before, she trusted in Zavier to lead, and he was warm and close and smelled like sweet rain. She settled one hand gently, a little nervously, on Zavier’s shoulder, and tightened her other hand in his.
