~:Silent Confessions:~
Xiu floated uncertainly before his guardian’s room. Despite Hazeline’s insistence that he should rest the instant that they had arrived home, the white Sigel felt that…he owed his guardian an explanation. Clutching tightly to the notepad and pen he had, the raevan took a deep breath, knocked and entered.
Hazeline glanced up from the paper she had been reading with a surprised look on her face. “Xiu? What are you doing here? You should be resting, do you need something?” came his guardian’s concerned questions.
Xiu merely shook his head before closing the door quietly behind him. Approaching his guardian, the Raevan held up the notepad. On it were written the words :
I think I owe you an explanation
“I think you most certainly do,” said Hazeline gravely as she turned to face her ward. Of course the guardian had been brought up to speed by Dr. Kyou and Lazarus earlier but the young woman was interested to hear the tale as told by her own Raevan. “Do you feel up for it though?”
Yes wrote the Sigel in reply.
Hazeline closed her eyes for a moment while she gathered her thoughts. “And you will not hide anything from me, will you?”
For a moment the Sigel hesitated but soon scribbled out No, you will be told all that you wish to know
“That’s good,” said Hazeline. “So let’s start from the beginning … ,”
It was close to two hours later by the time his guardian was through with her questions. Already several pages of the notepad the raevan had been holding had been filled with the Sigel’s neat script.
Xiu watched his guardian warily, uncertain of what was to come.
Hazeline sighed. “Xiu, have you ever once considered about…asking others for help?”
Xiu felt himself wince at those words. He had been told ever since his first bloodlust that there were others who could and were willing to help him and yet…and yet…
“Do you think you are smart Xiu? If so, how can you be so foolish at times?” demanded Hazeline as she stared directly into her raevan’s blue eyes. Beneath her stern reprimand, there was no hiding the concern that the guardian had for her raevan. “What if you were killed? What then? Does your own life mean...nothing to you?”
Xiu flinched at the admonishment and hung his head down.
Hazeline shook her head. It was hard to stay angry at her Raevan. Not when he was looking the way he did now. Besides, what Xiu had done, what he had gone through…
“Thank you, Xiu,” said Hazeline softly.
Surprised, Xiu stared at his guardian. Her features had softened considerably and the Sigel found himself marvelling at his guardian’s gentle features. Hazeline rarely ever…
“What you did for us, for Joshua; thank you,” said Hazeline.
The raevan nodded awkwardly. What he had done, anyone would have done the same for their family would they not? Family supported one another, looked out for one another…
What Hazeline did next was unexpected. Getting off her seat, Hazeline walked over to her Raevan and gave Xiu a tight hug. “And this might be belated but congratulations on your growth. You have turned out to be a fine Sigel,”
The white Raevan blushed. Really…all of this had not been planned…
“When you are feeling better, perhaps we should celebrate,” said Hazeline with a smile as she pulled back and took in the sight of her grown raevan. “What do you say to that?”
I would like that very much came the written reply.
