Super Sailor Ymir

Ymir’s pride hurt worse than the bruise on his arm, but he let Surtur look at it for a moment so Surtur wouldn’t fret too much. It was barely sore. Considering he’d only just fallen, the bruise was probably from something else.

“I’m fine,” he mumbled.

He spared a brief glance for Beira, then cleared his throat and continued on. They were almost done, if he wasn’t mistaken. More rope for the next obstacle, it seemed, but the purpose was different. Ymir took to this part easily and reached the end without taking any more tumbles.

Super Sailor Perdita

“It probably helps that I’ve spent half my life in ice skates,” Perdita said. “Theoretically, getting across the ropes should be easier than moving around on the ice on a four millimeter blade, right? Ice is solid, though, so maybe not.

“Are you okay, Connie?” she asked once Connie finally got across. “Not too banged up, are you? This last part doesn’t look too bad.

And yet, Perdita didn’t make the best show of it on the zip-line. She didn’t get enough speed starting out and went a bit slow. All in all, she could have done the whole course better, but she’d had fun and that was what mattered!

Connie, Squire of Chronos

“Perdita is amazing!” Connie gushed as she tried not to let her wet clothes weigh her down. “Her magic can make a whole lot of things appear! It was really cool to see. Oh, but having to fight people who want to hurt us isn’t cool. I wish we could all figure out a way to live together,” she sighed, but looked like she was doing her best to psych herself up for the next challenge.

“I’m okay!” she promised, offering Perdita a warm smile for her concern. She glanced around at herself as if checking for cracks in pottery, but when nothing was out of place or, well, blood anywhere, she gave both Perdita and Belmont a thumbs up.

The zipline looked interesting though! Surely it would be fine!

Probably because her friends were there to help her, Connie managed to get the rope untied and let out a squeal of delight when she zipped to the end. Maybe it was because of the weight of her clothes, too.

"Your turn, Belmont! You can do it!" she called to him as she went to clock her time with Perdita.

Reims, Page of Ganymede

Reims wouldn’t say that he was really good at rope courses or anything like that. He just happened to be falling in the correct way to get across or something.

It turned out everyone seemed to have some trouble on the course, anyway. He winced when Ganymede fell, but eyed her warily as he helped Dering up and onto solid ground again.

“Are you okay?” he asked Dering first, his voice lower so he knew he was legitimately concerned about him and not just throwing out a blanket statement.

Oh… he should probably let go of his hand at some point. He did, and rubbed his now sweaty palms on his pants, before turning to check on Ganymede and Eupheme too.

“Thanks,” he said in response to her praise, although he didn’t think they’d done anything to deserve it. He didn’t want to cause too much discourse when he wasn’t sure how he felt about all of this. And he didn’t want to stress Dering out more than he probably already was.

Next was the zipline.

“I’ll go first and be there to stop you at the end,” he nodded to the other three. He was the tallest of the four of them, anyway.

Naturally, he had all the trouble in the world with the rope. Eventually he got it loose and slowly inched his way down the line. Maybe he was too heavy for it? Whatever the case, he finally got off at the end and waited for the others.

Sailor Chibi Eupheme
“Are you okay?” Eupheme frowned up at Ganymede once she made it across the ropes. She wanted to give her a hug, but she didn’t want to get in trouble for being too familiar with her mom. Who she wasn’t supposed to be letting others know was her mom.

Thankfully, it didn’t look like Ganymede was hurt at all, so with a sigh of relief she went to wait for the Ganymede knight to make it down the zipline. And then it was her turn.

Maybe she was too light for the zipline. Whatever the case was, she wiggled her way down the line but hopped off before the Ganymede knight could help her. She didn't need help! She got this!

Super Sailor Surtur

Surtur looked from Ymir to Beira and back and huffed as he placed a hand on his hip to observe them both. Ymir was already racing to the end, and Beira looked like he was worn down.

“We should plan a time to meet up that is not in the middle of obstacles,” he suggested to Beira with a bright smile. “I fear we did not have much time to talk during this excitement.”

Well, he was enjoying himself. He wasn’t sure about the others.

“No matter! We will simply gather around good food and relish in good company!”

He made a dramatic bowing gesture to Beira, and then turned to take his turn on the zipline. He released the rope with ease and zipped down to land gracefully beside Ymir.

Belmont, Squire of Jupiter
Total: 8

Belmont couldn’t deny that Perdita was doing amazingly in this course. He had balance, sometimes. Not quite here, but if he was on a bike? Sure. Maybe he just worked better when he had more at stake and a steady flow of adrenaline.

This, though. This looked fun.

He watched as Perdita made her way down but he was in part wondering if he should give ice skating a go. He hadn’t really had a need for it yet but if they were ever out somewhere that required delicate and precise balance? He could probably benefit from a little extra practice. Maybe Connie, too.

His lip twitched into a smile when Connie flashed them a thumbs up. And she’d gone fast, and had fun!

She deserved it after that wet dress of hers bogged her down so much.

“All right,” he called back. He didn’t want Connie’s faith to be misplaced and he rolled his shoulders a bit to make sure he wasn’t going to overexert himself.

The rope came loose easily for him and when he grabbed the zipline he was careful to put most of his weight on his good side.

He was a little reckless about it. He could have taken more time to be careful and precise, but he took a bit of a running start and held on and made the best of it.

For a few seconds, he got the rush he was looking for, and when his feet hit solid ground he was having a good laugh about it.

“I think the whole course should have been zip lining. Destiny City has to have some adventure courses or something. I want to try that when we go back.” Well, when his arm was a little better. “Rock climbing, zip lining. You two are impressive, you’ll have to let me convince you to come with me.”

Dering, Squire of Lysithea
Total: 7

When Dering saw Ganymede fall, he partly wondered if she’d done it to make them more comfortable. Maybe it was a silly thought, but she’d glided so effortlessly before, and she’d seemed so unflustered afterwards. He might have been overthinking it, he knew he could have just been assuming things, but…

He didn’t know her very well at all, but she seemed like she was being kind, and patient. She was encouraging them.

And, whether it was deliberate or accidental, he felt a bit better about it.

Dering smiled when Reims asked if he was okay because he was okay. His face was warm but he was unhurt. He wished he could think of this just as some fun game but the reality was that if this were a life or death situation he would have completely failed, several times over.

He wanted to think that the third time was the charm, but seeing how Reims had struggled didn’t give him much home.

Dering would do his best.

He didn’t think he’d done as well as Ganymede claimed, and on the zipline it really just reaffirmed that thought. Another thing to add to the list–learn to undo knots better, probably. He’d tugged at the rope and struggled for a good few seconds before it came undone, and while that was more difficult than he wanted to admit he still found that he greatly enjoyed the wind rushing past his face as he glided down. He landed in a partial run so he didn’t crash and couldn’t help but laugh once he was on solid ground again.

Beira, Super Senshi of Loneliness
Total: 12

Surtur had so much energy, Beira couldn’t help but smile at his enthusiasm. It made him wonder even more how he and Ymir might have met, or gotten to know each other well enough that Surtur could extend such care for him.

He didn’t have to tell Surtur that it sounded like a good idea, or that he might like that. He was sure Surtur had already made his mind up about it, and Beira had no drive to protest or attempt to dissuade him.

Beira cared more about testing his own skills now than he did about actually racing to the finish line.

He was unhurried when it came to loosening the rope; it put up a great resistance but he took it all in stride before zipping down to the bottom.

He wasn’t much a fan of the dropping sensation but he thought he might be able to see how others could enjoy it. Beira certainly liked things a little quieter.

The end was in sight, though.

Emain Ablach, Squire of Earth

Roll 1: 3
———————————
\You slip off a rock, but towards the edge of the water where you’re able to dig your heels into the creek bed and not get carried off. You’re still wet, but at least you didn’t lose too much time.\
———————————

Emain Ablach took the course at a light jog, not wanting to tire himself out too early in the competition. He wasn’t terribly athletic, and he knew it. So when he got to the first challenge and saw he had to jump rocks across a river, he came to a stop first. He paced up and down a short distance, seeing if there was a way across that didn’t require him to jump across the rocks.

No, unfortunately.

So he went back to the rocks and squinted to see if he could get a better vantage point on what it was going to take to cross the river. He was aware he wasn’t the only person at the riverside, but he was trying not to be obvious about it. Taking a deep breath, he took a couple steps back, then ran forward and leapt onto the first rock.

…He made it!

He leapt onto the second rock.

…He made it again!

Emain Ablach leapt onto the third and fourth rocks, and continued on until he was almost, almost, at the end. It must have been the slipperiness of the rocks, or maybe he just got overconfident. Either way, he was nearly there, and then he felt his feet slip out from under him and dump him unceremoniously into the water. For a second, he coughed and sputtered and fought to get his head above water as fast as possible. But once he was back where breathing was possible, he resolved to trudge across the rest of the river and drag himself onto the shore.

Soaking wet, but at least he was there.

Imhotep, Page of Mercury

Roll 1: 2
——————————
1-2: You slip off a rock into the water and aren’t expecting how strong it is. You end up a good 20 feet downstream and have to fight the current to get back to where you were.
——————————

He and Promethei arrived at very nearly the same time as Emain Ablach, but not on purpose. Imhotep frowned slightly, pausing to watch Emain Ablach cross the river, fall into the river, and keep going across the river. He wouldn’t admit it, but he’d been worried for a moment when Emain Ablach had first fallen, and he was relieved that he was able to find his footing.

“I’ll go next.” Imhotep moved for the shore line and took his first and second leaps. Like Emain Ablach, he enjoyed success on those preliminary jumps. Unlike Emain Ablach, that was all he enjoyed success on. He knew he’d skinned his knee on the way down when he finally slipped and fell, judging by the way it stung in the water, but stubbornness propelled him onward regardless.

Even when he surfaced and realized he’d been washed a couple dozen feet downstream. Frustration was what propelled him onwards this time as he fought back to where he’d been washed from. If Promethei said anything, he swore to god—

Once back at his origin point, he gave it a try to climb back up onto the rocks, but that wasn’t going to work, and he was wasting precious time. So Imhotep grit his teeth and forced himself oh-so-slowly across the river, struggling not to let his feet get washed out from under him the whole way.

Promethei, Squire of Mercury

How did they keep pacing Emain Ablach? They weren't trying to keep pace with him or anything like that, it just kept happening.

Perhaps Tobias would make some cheesy commentary about how it was a sign that they should have been together anyway, but Promethei pushed it out of his mind to watch the least athletic of them with a quirked brow. Did Emain Ablach get better at this stuff with Negaverse training?

Well, no. But at least he got up.

"Good luck," he murmured to Imhotep, letting him go ahead and staying back with his arms crossed. Considering what this was, not like he could follow. Promethei nearly lept to do so anyway, though, when he saw Imhotep fall from the rocks into the water. "********!" Thankfully, Imhotep, though soaked, showed back up before Promethei decided this s**t didn't matter and all that mattered was making sure Imhotep didn't drown.

Promethei took a deep breath.

"Well, just gotta tap back into scout days."

He made his way across the stones with relative ease until the very end, where he overbalanced and careened off to the left. Thankfully, unlike his husband, he caught himself and finished.

Careful not to tease Imhotep, Promethei cautiously asked, "You good?" before they kept going.

Emain Ablach, Squire of Earth

Roll 1: 3
Roll 2: 4
————————————
3-4: You jump, and grab the top of the wall just by your fingertips. You pull yourself slowly up. You did it!
————————————

And it was soaking wet that he arrived at the next challenge. The wall loomed in front of him, with the boards attached to it, and he took a second to take it all in and plan his next move. There was no ladder, just the boards and wall. He could climb easily on the bottom but not much higher than that. It wasn’t going to do him any good just to rely on climbing to get past it.

He could try jumping for it, and Emain Ablach backed up and gave a hop to see how high he could reach. Not high enough on any of the four tries he attempted. So he backed up a few more steps, braced himself, and ran for it. He was, again, not very athletic, but being a squire had to be worth something, right?

It was enough to get him high enough to just barely hook his fingertips over the top of the obstacle. He almost let himself hang there for a second, but his hands were immediately beginning to ache, and so he put everything he had into hauling himself up and over the top of the wall and its wood embellishments.

He was a little out of breath when he landed on the other side, but the important part was that he was on the other side.

Imhotep, Page of Mercury

Roll 1: 2
Roll 2: 4
———————
3-4: You jump, and grab the top of the wall just by your fingertips. You pull yourself slowly up. You did it!
———————
Imhotep managed to get to the wall just in time to see Emain Ablach disappear over it. For some reason, this irritated him. It irritated him enough to immediately try and follow him. It unfortunately did not translate to ability to swiftly follow him. Much to Imhotep’s further irritation, he did manage to snag the top of the obstacle on the first try, but very nearly fell back off, and that cost him some time as he scrambled himself gracelessly over the wooden additions to the stone wall.

He didn’t know what he’d do if he managed to catch up to Emain Ablach. He wasn’t terribly keen to talk to him at the moment. But something about him being ahead of them rankled Imhotep. So once he was on the other side, he immediately first looked to see where Promethei was, but nearly as immediately looked to find Emain Ablach.
