PAST!GRUS and PAST!ACUBENS PAST RP REFERENCE OVER AIM!

Acubens was alone on the white shores of her home. The air smelt of salt and of damp forest and Acubens relished it. She closed her golden eyes and inhaled deeply. greedily. She was afraid that she would never again lay eyes on her beautiful coastal home. Afraid that all of this, the green sea, the baying of the sea Swimmers and the calling of the Flyers and the chirping of the small Walkers would be lost to her.
Last week Acubens had exhibited a strange power. She was laying with her friends when, suddenly, she began to run fast, futher, and was far more agile than the other children. The next thing the child knew, her parents were speaking with the village elder and Acubens was sitting, wondering what it all meant. Why did she have to go to the central city? What was she turning into?
She turned the strange egg around in her hands, given to her by the elder her parents had spoke to. You are a soldier, she had grunted. And each soldier must have a Runner. But what am I fighting for? For your home, silly girl.
And to do that, Acubens had to leave. She pulled her knees up to her chest and threw the egg from her, not bothering to watch it roll around in the warm sand before she burried her face in her knees and wept. She did not want to leave home.

The world was so interesting! The young senshi, dressed in flexible tan pants and a bright red tunic, stared from beneath the umbrella her translator held. Her shoes were soft leather, and the entire outfit was adorned with beads, ranging from the deep crimson that matched her hair streaks to a pale peach along the neckline. Feathers were placed in her hair among the twin bun style, and the hung from the shoes. The planet was wonderful. It was green and lively, just like home! Her green eyes were flickering back and forth, unable to focus on anything in particular. Her translator smiled, tilting the umbrella so the sun his the youngster's olive colored face. "This is Acubens." She said, indicating the planet they were on. "I figured you would like it here." Grus agreed, reaching out to poke a very large leaf. It wiggled, and a small lizard stuck it's head out. She squealed, watching it flit away. They arrived at what had to be the village elder's hut, and Miss Saynard Translator began to speak with the elder in strange grunts. After a few minutes, Grus grew bored. She stared at the two speaking, and then quietly snuck out into the open air. She inhaled, filling tiny lungs with foreign air. Her brown hair bounced as she ran around, inspecting everything. She dearly wished her friends could have come with. Oh how Dayton Farmer would have loved this place! Her wandering found her near the ocean, or a very large lake. The water was cool to teh touch, and she almost didn't hear the weeping over the waves. But hear it she did, and upon closer inspection, she found a girl crying on the sea shore. "Excuse me." She said, stopping a few feet away. "Why are you crying?" The beads on the sleeves of her shirt clicked gently as she reached a hand toward the girl's shoulder.

No one came to visit Acubens. At least, not very often. And when they did, they visited the central cities, where there was more to see and do. The bigger Walkers and even some wild Runners were there. Egg Stealers ran rampant and Spinebacks lumbered freely. The homes were more ornate and the people, sometimes, spoke other languages and could communicate. Out on the coast, however, there were only Squeakers, Nippers, and Swimmers. And no one spoke anything but thier own language. The idea of anyone coming out there was unheard of.
So it wasn't out of the question that Acubens was naturally afraid of the strangley speaking girl. She shrieked, matted and dreaded hair flying everywhere is a fireworks display of crimson. The egg. She rolled nimbly, tought to fight frmo an early age, and grabbed it, standing again in one fluid motion as she turned to face the girl. She wanted ot fight, then she'd fight.
Acubens hunched over, egg tucked under her arm, and extended her arms in the typical challenge and grunted loudly. Next to the refined dress of the other girl, Acubens in her uncut animal skins, held together with dried sinew, and dirty, matted hair looked primative. And she was. The whole planet was primative. They had no technology, no language, no anything.
To be honest, the girl looked rediculous to Acubens. Where are your skins, she grunted mockingly, straightening up and easing her grip on her egg. Her bare feet made no sound on the sand as she circled the girl. Only whores show thier bodies as you do. She poked Grus' back with a bony finger and cackled. Are you a whore? Acubens danced, wiggling ehr middle in what she saw to be a provacative manner before laughing again. This girl was no threat. She was a joke.

The sudden movement frightened Grus. One second, the girl was crying. The next, she was rolling for an egg and looked ready to kill the other girl. What in the world had she done to offend or make the girl angry? She held out her hands, hoping this too wasn't a show of aggression. If only Miss Translator were here! Then just as suddenly, the other girl was poking her in the back. Grus twisted, and laughed at the swaying motion Acuben's was making. "Is that dancing?" She asked, trying to imitate the movement. Her's were not so fluid, and she laughed again. "My name is Grus. Well.." she paused, putting a finger to her cin. "I guess taht's not my REAL name. My real name is Svelte. Svelte Singer. What's your name?" She held out her hand, expecting a return shake.

As Grus began to imitate her motions, her cackles grew louder and longer. She stopped and fell backward into the sand, kicking her filthy bare feet in the air. What was this other girl doing? Didn't she know what sort of women moved thier hips like that?! Acubens sat up and listened to the girls strange language as she dried her eyes. oh, gods, this girl was too much! Acubens clicked her fingers against the shell of her egg, occasionally rubbing the rough surface with her fingertips.
And then the girl moved again. What was she doing now? Acubens cocked her head at the other girl, brows in a thin line across her brows. What did that mean? Acubens leaned forward carefully, watching Grus as she did so. She sniffed at the girls fingers, wondering, perhaps, if she was offering food of some sort. Acubens smelled none, and sat back on her heels, feet curled under her if she needed to sprint away. She balanced her weight on her hands, which were splayed out in the sand before her as she watched the other girl curiously.

Hmmm, this didn't seem to be working. Apparently, language..or at least, her language...wasn't spoken here. She pulled her hand back after it was inspected, drumming her fingers on her chin in the same way Acubens did on the eggshell. That was certainly strange. What was in the egg? Too bad she couldn't ask. How do you communicate with someone that didn't speak any sort of language? Svelte pointed to herself, saying "Svelte", careful to enunciate each syllable. "Se-vel-te." She repeated the motion a couple of times, then pointed to Acubens, expecting something similar to come from the girl. She seemed to scared! Svelte didn't think she was that frightening. Where she came from, everyone was giving her grief about being so little. But here, it was like she was covered in spines and roaring at the girl.

Acubens cocked her head again as the girl spoke. What was she saying now? "See... veel... tea...?" Her voice was rough, too deep to be a womans now that it was acutally being used for more than grunting and roaring. Acubens brushed a dread lock from her eyes and straightened as she was pointed at. Was that supposed to describe her? Acubens pointed to herself and repeated the word witht he same careful pronunciation. "See... veel... tea...?" What did that even mean? She grunted again and pulled her little egg in close. "Seeveeltea," she said faster. She inched closer to the girl and repeated the word again. "Seeveeltea?"

Svelte laughed, getting down on her hands and knees and sitting on her feet. She shook her head, brown and red hair following suit. "Name." She said, pointing to herself. "Svelte. I am Svelte." She poked herself gently in the chest, and said again "Name is Svelte. You?" she pointed to Acubens, patient. This muct be the first time that the girl had spoken another language. Was that common here? Everywhere that the new senshi had visted, there had always beena language spoken. It may have varied in dialect and even wrods, but she could always get the gist of it. Here though, it was a whole new world and even if it looked similar to her own planet, it was very different. Her eyes landed on the egg again. She wantedto know what the heck it was for! Was it a pet? Or maybe a treasure?

Acubens pointed to herself again. "Yoooooooooo." She dragged out the word. Were Seeveeltea and yooooooo similar in some way? Neem. What was that? What was this girl saying? She wasn't making any sense. Acubens huffed and turned away in irritation. This was stupid. Acubens had bigger problems to deal with right now, she couldn't be dealing with this. She whipped her head around to watch the other girl, lips set into a thin line. She followed the line of her eyes and traced it to her egg. Acubens growled and curled the egg into her chest protectivley. Mine, she grunted, trying to hide the egg with her body. "Seeveeltea..." she said angrily, sticking her tongueout at her. She thrust ehr chin out at the girl and grunted again. Go away and leave me to my business.

Oh dear. The attempt to communicate seemed to have upset her. Svelte's face dropped into a frown for just a moment the habit of chewing her lip coming out now. How to get her to nderstand that she didn't want to egg, she just wanted to know what it was for.....An idea popped into her head. She stood slowly, looking on the ground for something. Ah! A shell! She picked it up, pointing to it. Maybe this would work. Behind her, in a stand of trees, something moved. Large eyes stared out from behind branches at the two girls, watching. Waiting.

Acubens turned halfway to Grus and frowned as she pointed to the shell. Yes, very good. Acubens snatched the shell from it and bonked her in the forehead with it. Do you think I'm stupid, she grunted. She waved the shell around, grunting furiously on her tirade. What do you take me for?! What, so because I wear animal skins and don't speak your language I'm an idiot who doesn't know what a shell is? Who do you think you are? You come to my home, in a very turbulent time in my life, I might add, and insult me like this! The girl broke down into a fit of tear and turned, chucking the shell out to sea. That's what I think of your shell, she grunted, turning back to Grus with glistening eyes.

Double dear. Apparently that wasn't right either! How did Miss Translator do this!? The shell really made her mad, and Grus winced as she was bonked on teh head. "Hey now!" She said, but was interrupted by what seemed to be a very emotional rant from the other girl, ending in her teaching tool being thrown back out to sea. Grus sighed, flopping down on the ground, only to rise again when she saw how distressed the other was. The green eyed girl pointed to Acuben's tears, tilting her head in a way to show confusion. The creature from the trees growled, not liking the action of throwing the shell. The movement drew it closer however, and slowly it creapt from the stand of trees, leaving large footprints in the sand behind it.

Acubens glared at Grus as she pointed at her. Oh now what. Crying, she grunted. Crying, do you understand that? I'm crying! She cuffed roughly at her tears with the fur bracers meant to keep her arms warm on cold nights. God, this girl was so dense.
What was that?
Acubens' head snapped up at the sound of footfalls crunching in the sand. A Walker... but the big ones were supposed to stay inland! This one must have gotten lost and ended up on the coast.
The girl was stupid, but she was innocent. Acubens could not let her get hurt. Not on her watch. She roughly grabbed the girl by the arm and pulled her behind her. Stay there, she hissed without turning around. She'd dealt with these animal before but... always Screechers and Egg Stealers. Never big Walkers like this one. She hunched over and growled at the thing, bearing her teeth at it and snapping her jaws.

Grus was not helping. She wanted to throw her arms in the air and walk away from teh strange girl, but her duty as a senshi made her pause. If this was proving too much for her, how was battling enemies and meeting even stranger people going to go? Maybe she could try to imitate the grunts instead of making her imitate the sounds of her language. So she picked the one that sounded the easiest, which just happened to be crying. She tried her hand and makign the noises, inwardly flinching. Then she was abrupty pulled forward. Her body fell, and she landed in the sand, coughing up grains and about to give the girl a good talkign to when she turned around and saw the Walker. It was HUGE and scary! And had sharp teeth! She let out a shout, scrambling to get a few more feet behind Acubens. They needed help!

Acubens roared in time with the Walker, puffing herself up to look bigger. It wasn't the biggest she'd seen. In fact it only stood about a head taller than she. Still, even the smallest Walkers were deadly if not handled properly. As it's tail thrased, Acubens swung her arms and tossed her hair. She shrieked at the Walker as it roared at her. When it tried to come closer to them, Acubens threw sand in it's face. The Walker wailed, shaking it's great head, and lunged at Acubens again. The girl let out an even greater roar and dug her fist into the eye of the Walker. It wailed and backed away, deciding his dinner should not fight him so hard. As he left, Acubens shook with the adrenaline as sweat trickled down her back. That was close...

Grus blinked and watched in awe as Acubens fought and chased away the Walker. She hand was clutched to her chest above her pounding heart. The Walker dragged itself away, but Grus remained on the ground, though she rose to a sitting poistion. "That was amazing!" She said, forgetting that she wouldn't be understood. Tears threatened at the corners of her eyes. "Thank you."

That much Acubens did understand. Be it from the tone of her voice or some universal understanding of graditude, Acubens turned, golden eyes wide. Still, she grinned her usual, cocky grin and tweaked her nose with her thumb. Nah, it was nothin', she grunted, matted hair bouncing as she beamed with confidence. She grinned and held out her hand to Grun and grunted, someone needs to teach you how to fight, silly girl. But there was affection in her voice now. Something... almost filial. Silly girl, she repeated.

Taking her hand, Grus met Acuben's smile with one of her own, rising to her feet. She stared for a moment in the direction the Walker went, noticing the footprint in the sand. A familiar voice called out her name, and she twisted her neck to see Miss Translator running down the beach, calling her name. She waved, then turned back to Acubens. Rattling her wrist, she loosened the multiple bracelets from the higher part of her arm and selected one from the bunch. It was made of beads the color of pearl, with one dark red and one dark blue where it tied together. Small black feathers were tied in every few beads, and overall there was a nice pattern to it. She removed the bracelet, and laid it flat in her hand, holding it out to Acubens. "Gift." she said, holding out her hand.

Acubens went tense when the other new woman came into view. It was Grus' voice, however, that calmed her down. She looked down at the bracelet curiously. "Geeft..." she ventured carefully, gently picking up the strange decoration between her thumb and pointer fingers. She sniffed the thing curiously and bit down gently on the beads. Still not food. She hooked the thing around her ear for a moment before she placed it gently on the top of her skull. She didn't quite understand the concept of decoration. The Acuben people were more about function.

Smiling, she carefully plucked the bracelet from Acuben's head, holding it with her thumb and pointer finger. She gave it back to Acuben's , holding out her wrist and taking off another bracelet. "Like this." she said, pushing the bracelet she had taken off onto her wrist, and gesturing for her to do the same. Miss Translator stopped a yard or so away, watching in fascination as Grus tried to communicate.

Acubens watched carefully as Grus moved. "Lah-eek... thees..." She mimiced her motions, pushing the jewlery onto her wrist carefully, so as not to break it. It seemed so much more delicate than the bracers she usually wore. And so very difference in apperence. The glass stood out against the fur, and glittered when she held up her hands to the sun. "Geeft. Lah-eek thees." She grinned brightly at Grus, eyes shut in the enormity of her beam.

Grus wanted to cheer and clap her hands. It had worked! She grinned back, laughing just a little. "Yes!" Miss Translator was impressed. Grus twisted her wrist back and forth, making the bracelet slide around. "Thank you." She said again, and at the careful touch of Miss Translator's hand, she turned and nodded in comprehension. It was time to leave. Grus looked back to Acubens, saying "I have to go now. But I will see you later, ok buddy?" Buddy, such a strong word in Grucian life. A buddy was somene that you knew was going to be close for the rest of your life, almost like family. And this girl had saved her life. Grus would be forever in debt.

"Yees," Acubens echoed happily, twisting her arm with Grus. "Yees!" The other woman, however, dampened her spirits. She hunched back over and growled at the woman. Where was she taking ehr new friend? Her ner sister? While Acuben people were not particularly trusting, and even less loyal, Acubens herself had always been a bit strange in that respect. And now some strange woman was taking her away. What sort of nonsense was this. Touch her and I will cut you where you stand, she grunted, clenching her fists so that her knuckles went white. The brunette is mine. She's my sister. Mine!

Miss Translator backed away, grunting that Grus needed to go because her family would want her back soon. They missed their daughter, and she needed to train more so that she too could fight a Walker. Grus listened to the exchange of grunts, fascinated with the language, as rudimentary was it was. She made it a point ot remember Acuben, because she was going home straight away and finding a book abut their language. She smiled, putting a hand on Acuben's wrist where the bracelet stood "I will come back. Or maybe you can visit me!" Miss Translator grunted out what Grus had said.

The sudden sound of her language shocked Acubens into silence as she listened. What was... this day just got stranger and stranger. Grus's hand made her look over, eyes wide with confusion. The translator was like a blessing, making it easier, no, possible to understand her new sister. "Vee seet. Veeseet." Her eyes darted from the translator to Grus and back again. "Seeveeltea veeseet?" It was hard, harder than she expected to form the words she needed to in order to speak. Had she said anything that made sense?

The brunette nodded, green eyes shining. "Yes, Svelte visit." She nodded, emphisizing the yes with her head. Her translator again came forward and touched Grus's shoudler, saying "We really should be going if we want to make it back before tomorrow night." Grus nodded, and turned back to Acubens. "Goodbye for now buddy!" She waved, taking a step backward back toward the village. Her olive skin glistened with a couple tears of happiness. She turned to Miss Translator and began to talk to her rapidly, trying to arrange another visit to the leafy planet. Or perhaps a visit to Grus for the other girl. Either way, Grus wanted to see her again very soon.
