Oh GOD she was bored!

Super Sailor Grus lay on the edge guard of a rooftop, staring up at the sky while on the verge of death. One arm dangled off the rooftop into space, the other was carelessly draped across her chest. The wind coming off the building was cold but nothing her feather filled fuku couldn't handle. The feathers gave her a nice under layer of down that kept the heat close to her body. The only place she felt the cold was her legs, but it didn't bother her in the slightest tonight.

It was practically silent out in Destiny City. Try as she might, she couldn't find a youma or Nega anywhere. Maybe it was because it was getting cold, or because schools were starting to head into finals week. Maybe it was because there weren't as many people out late anymore, choosing to stay home and watch claymation Christmas movies instead of visit bars. For whatever reason, it was dull out here and Grus was about to head home to her bed.

She bent forward, rearranging her skirts to a suitable sitting position. Her feet now dangled off the rooftop, and her boots clicked on the bricks of the side of the building. A tickle on her hand caught her attention, and she saw a red feather had plucked loose of her fuku. She picked it up and blew on it, watching it turn golden in the street light. She began humming a tune, head in her hands with her elbows on her knees.

For a hunter, the most important skill was perhaps that to move silently, prowling along streets and rooftops [or, more commonly, among low-hanging branches and berry-laden bushes] unseen, so that they could leap out and surprise their prey. This was why Laoise always sniffed scornfully at those cats with the jingle of a bell at their collar, with dangling metal that clanked and clicked against itself as it walked, with bright flashes of hats or hanging cloth that threatened to tangle in paws.

This was why her adornments were feathers from those birds she'd taken down.

No sound marked her approach across the roof, lean body pressed against the lip of the building, belly almost scraping along the ground as she worked her way from the corner toward the humming girl, her path covered by the sound, by the glitter of light on the feather.

She hit pouncing distance, leapt -- and missed.

The girls would get a glimpse of gold fur, green feathers fluttering in the night air, a woosh of blue beads, as Laoise shot out in front her nose and landed on the other side of her. There, the cat paused, drawing in a breath, her spine raised and her eyes wide for about ten seconds. Surprised, or annoyed, claws dug against the earth --

And then she set to licking one paw. Nope. She hadn't done that at all. She hadn't leapt. She hadn't missed. She'd just been right there, the whole time, grooming that paw. Important business.

The world was silent to her, except for her own humming of course. She examined the ground below, and then a flash of movement across her face scared the living hell out of her. She yelped, falling backwards off the roof edge and onto the rooftop proper holding her arms up in a defensive position. Then she rolled and got to her feet, staring at the now chill cat with a paw to its mouth. She practically gasped for air when she noticed the gold star on its head, signifying that the cat was a White Moon Cat.

Grus felt a flash of anger at being caught unawares, but the flash went away as soon as it had come. It was her own dang fault for being surprised. She had been the one zoning out. But it was like being surprised by a lamp that you thought was a burglar. You felt quite foolish afterwards.

"Are you tryin to kill me?" She asked, clutching at her heart. "Or yourself? If you'd missed your landing you would be a kitty pancake right now." Grus stopped to admire the adornments that cat had..all over. They seemed to be feathers. Was the cat a kleptomaniac?

Lick, lick -- she looked up slowly, her expression feigning confusion, as if she had no idea why the girl was freaking out so thoroughly. Laoise had done nothing. She'd been sitting there the whole time. Her tail thrashed and twisted in around her hind feet as she squinted at Grus.

"Why are you sitting alone on a roof and playing with feathers?" Perhaps not the same kind of cat Grus was familiar with. Despite her own love of feathers, despite her almost compulsive need to pounce the one Grus had had in her hands, despite the fact that even now her eyes tracked the ones around the hem of the senshi's skirt...

"Shouldn't you be on the move? Patrolling?" Slowly, she lowered her paw. Her tail twitched again, eyes narrowed.

Grus blinked at the cat for a moment. Did she really expect Grus to just..ignore the attempt on her life? Her hands went to her hips, and she bent down toward the cat, saying "I was sitting here because I don't feel as much as a tingle of a youma anywhere near here. And sometimes it's nice to just..relax." Granted she could relax at home, but she felt like she was wearing a costume. In her senshi form, she felt...complete. It fit her like a good broken in pair of jeans.

"I'll move on when I darn well please." She finished, sitting down for emphasis. "I see your covered in feathers. That's pretty funny, because I'm the Senshi of Feathers."

Laoise wasn't a tamed cat, not the sort to lean into pettings and purr or beg for scraps. She also didn't do well with young girls leaning down and thrusting their faces into hers. Her ears went back and one paw shot up in warning, sharp claws extended -- not quite trying to actually catch the girl, but instead just to drive her back, to get Grus out of her personal space. She hissed, a quick and sharp hiss, pointed teeth flashed as she did.

"This generation. You're all so mouthy! All of you! When did 'duty' become a meaningless word?" Her paw curled, and Lee struggled desperately to focus on the girl's face instead of the distracting, tantalizing feathers along the hem of her skirt, and the beads that hung and swung temptingly in the night breeze.

Grus's face deepened from a rosy pink to red and she swallowed the angry retort that was threatening to come out. Who did this cat think she was?! She attacked Grus, and then threatens her with claws and harps on her about duty? How many youma did this cat have under her metaphorical belt?

"Duty isn't a meaningless word to me." She shot back, fiddling with the hem of her skirt. "I'm out here almost every night now, what with the strange stuff that turned us all into cats finally going away." You see mean kitty, I know what it's like to be a foot tall and have no powers. Why did she have to be so grumpy? Grus was out in the cold instead of in bed, risking life and limb to protect a city that wasn't even thankful!

"It's hard to help people when there aren't any youma to fight. And now I have to be careful who I pick my battles with. My power isn't exactly strong and awesome." Picking another feather from her hem she looked at it curiously before blowing it away.

The feather captured Laoise's attention and drew her into its sway, making it hard for he to focus on anything else. As it bobbed in the wind, her head bobbed to match it, yellow-gold eyes not straying -- and, for this moment, she was unable to even come up with a retort. The start of a statement, on the tip of her tongue, was lost until it had worked its way out of reach, floated down beyond even a cat's reach.

Then she looked back to Grus, and her mind came back into focus enough to grasp for words, eyes narrowing as if the girl had done that on purpose to distract her. "What care did you take in picking a battle with me then?"

"You jumped in front of my face first." She said, watching the cat's reaction to the feather with a bit of confusion and amusement. This one seemed to be very much in touch with her cat side, and the feather seemed to catch her attention more than anything else. Grus tapped her chin carefully, putting this information away for now.

"Why did you jump at me if you weren't looking for an argument to begin with?"She pulled another feather from her fuku, and flicked it experimentally from her. The tiny red thing drifted down between cat and senshi, spinning slightly.

"I didn't jump at you -- " It came with a disdainful sniff, but her tone sounded uncertain, Laoise's eyes entranced by the dancing feather. She tried, oh she tried to keep her proud demeanor in place, but the second that feather drifted down within reach, she leapt. It was graceful, at least, long body stretched out to its full length, paws extended to pluck the feather from the air as if it were nothing and slap it to the earth within her grasp.

After that, though, it went less proud, Lee flopping onto her side to kick frantically at the feather with her hind legs while she held it down: making sure that the thing was well and thoroughly dead. If it had been a bird, the creature would certainly have never flown again.

"So you jumped at the feathers all over my fuku!" She said, hiding a laugh behind her hand as the cat jumped. She was graceful; the jump had a certain arch that only a cat could really achieve. Something Grus missed about being a cat. The need to destroy something you caught with hind claws, not so much. She almost expected a growl out of the befeathered cat.

"That's why. Ok well now you are less of a pain than I thought." She shifted her seated position, ending up with her feet tucked under her. The cold of the rooftop was jarring for a moment, but her body temperature quickly adjusted so that it didn't distract her too much. Sitting this way also kept her legs from the chilly air, and her goosebumps soon subsided.

"What's your name?"

Somehow, despite the fury of her attacks, when Laoise finally stopped kicking, the feather wasn't damaged. Or not terribly damaged, at least; a little bent near one end, but still acceptable, still attractive. Sniffing, not amused by the laughter or the amusement in Grus's tone, Lee pushed the feather toward the girl, carefully, and settled down where she was sprawled.

Her pupils were still huge, from the fight. Still ready to hunt down more prey. She blinked a few times to focus.

"I am Laoise. Take this and put it in my necklace." It would look good, red among the green feathers -- at least, until Grus powered down and it faded away. That was fine. Lee would take it for as long as she could.

Grus giggled again, picking up the attacked and thoroughly dead feather. It was an interesting change from distinctly human-like, to full on feline and back again. Carefully tucking Laoise's hard fought prize into her necklace among the other feathers she said "Do you hunt birds a lot then? Or just go scaring the feathers off of them?" Laoise certainly had quite the collection going, and something told Grus that she probably had more stashed away somewhere. A secret prize vault.

"Oh, and I'm Sailor Grus, Senshi of Feathers. I apologize about earlier. You startled me." She scooted back and stood, bowing dramatically to the furry person below her.

"I know who you are." It came with a sniff, Lee twisting her head to check the feather and then settling back on her haunches, eyes taking in Grus. This one wasn't that bad, she decided; not fresh faced, and when the girl bowed, the cat's expression relaxed. Finally, someone treating her with suitable respect. That was nice.

"I hunt, sometimes, yes." She sounded calm now, though, easy going, almost even friendly. This was a rarity, for Laoise. Her tail wound around her legs. "Not pidgeons, pidgeons hardly count. But the brighter birds can be a challenge."

I wasn't sure if you had heard me. We were both a little..upset." She chose the words carefully, not wanting to offend the already testy feline. This one was fast changing her opinion of Guardian Cats. The ones that she had met before were always so nice and amiable. This one had a real person's attitude inside that tiny body.

"When I was a cat I wouldn't hunt pigeons. They're kinda gross and stupid." She remembered looking at them with hungry feline eyes and finding their conquest not worth it. Instead she had run into Harmony, who fed her.

"What kind of birds? Like blue birds? Well maybe not now because I suppose they aren't about right now. Or robins? I imagine they would be difficult to catch seeings how small they were..." Grus was quickly getting hung up on the details involving bird catching. This occupied her speech for a minute or two until another thought crossed her mind.

"Say, can you cats change from cat to human? Like of our own free will?"
