Nathan was waiting at the Paintball course. he had gotten there first. Who knew that running over roof tops as a senshi was faster than a bus? Nate did, now, but he hadn't before. Or maybe she had gotten lost looking for it.

Either way.

He had gotten her gear for her, mostly because he was known at the course so he had no trouble getting what he needed when he wanted it, and he knew what was good and what was shitty. He did not settle for shitty unless he was aiming to sabotage someone.

He wasn't aiming to sabotage Castille, thinking he'd probably be just fine without trying it. He got her what he thought would suit her best, and brought his own gear for himself.

Though he would have liked to just power up to play. His senshi armor was tops.

he as sitting on a bench near the entrance, tending to his paintball gun, which he took expert care of anyway.

Castille had arrived at the paintball course a little late. When navigating, she could picture in her mind the paintball course, but not exactly how to get there. So a couple wrong turns later found her..well not there. But she had backtracked and found the place. She approached it with a slight nervousness in her stomach. She had never done this before.

She saw Nate and gave him a wave, jogging over to where he sat with a formidable looking gun. There was a pile of gear next to him, and she eyed it saying "Is that mine?" A finger ran down the plastic, and the nerves in her stomach gave a little jump. She picked up the helmet and looked into it. She placed it back on the bench and lifted her hands to her hair, deftly pulling free the hair bands and a couple bobby pins that held her hair in place. The blonde and red locks tumbled free in a wavy length that ended halfway to her shoulders. She picked up another piece of the armor and turned it over, looking it over carefully.

"So I just gotta put this stuff on?"

"That is yours," he said, skipping a sarcastic response if only because he really wanted to shoot her with his paintball gun of her own free will, and didn't want to blow it.

He would behave, as close to it as he was able to, anyway, until the round started. Then she was on her own.

"Yeah, it's all pretty easy. Just pull on, do the straps up, make sure it doesn't fall off. Your probably going to want the chest piece and the goggles, if nothing else. Maybe a helmet," he grinned at her. Really, they were all supposed to play with full protective gear. He had a chest piece on, a familiar look for anyone that knew him really well, and goggles sitting on the top of his head. He had no wrist or elbow pads, but he did wear some on his knees. And a cup, though that wasn't immediately visible.

When one played like he did, ones most sensitive spots often became the most targeted. He had to take precautions.

"I'll show you how to shoot if you want. They've got practice hay bales you can shoot at. Or you can just jump in, which I think is a lot more fun." Easy for him to say, considering he had done this before. He grinned at her knowingly.

"Not scared yet, are ya?"

The gear was quite bulky. Since she had never done this before, she decided that more gear was better. She she strapped the chest plate into place, she couldn't help but notice that he had on less gear than she was gong to have. Was he really that confidant that she wasn't going to hit him? Or was he simply immune to pain. Castille had heard that getting hit with a paintball on bare skin was quite painful.

As the goggles went around her head to sit just above her eyebrows, she looked down and laughed. "I look like you when your powered up." Her fist knocked on the chestplate experimentally. She hardly felt a thing.

After all of the gear was on except for the helmet, so spread her arms out and did a twirl. "How do I look?"

"I think jumping in sounds much more fun than shooting at hay bales." She said, eyeing the gun with excitement running through her. She was probably crazy. No, chances are she was super crazy. "It's just a point and shoot type thing? No fancy buttons to press or things to load, other than the paintballs?" Hopefully she wouldn't get too many bruises. Volleyball was long over, so it was more difficult to explain to Dad where they were coming from.

And as for being scared... "Nah, I'm not scared.!" She flashed a wide grin, pulling the goggles on over her eyes for emphasis.

Nate was many things. Confident and stupid were both among that list. He was sure he would do just fine against her, of course, and he did know very well how painful paint pellets could be.

But he didn't really care.

As with training and fighting. Pain was just part of the job. It came with the territory and if one was going to get better at what they were doing, they had to suffer some pain. At least, that was the way of most of the things Nate did went. And they did usually involve a good deal of pain.

He grinned and shook his head.

"You wish you looked as cool as I do," he scoffed. He nodded his head though, looking her over. "You look like someone who is about to get shot a lot of times."

He nodded his head, lifting her gun and pretending to show her how to shoot it, then firing a paint ball right at her chest plate. It splattered at the short distance, and Nate grinned at her as he handed her the gun.

"Point and shoot," he confirmed.

Grabbing his gun, he took off into the area set up for fights, indicating that the game had begun. There weren't too many other people there, and they mostly stuck to their own games. There was enough room to accommodate them all.

Castille shook her head at his response, hands on her hips. So confident! How was he this cocky all the time? Especially when she was going to destroy him at this! Inwardly she laughed. He was much more familiar with paint balling, and wouldn't go easy on her. But maybe beginners luck would help her out...

She was shocked when the pellet hit her chest plate. She opened her mouth to say something, but he gave her the gun and ran off into the place full of things to hide behind, so she narrowed her eyes and ran in after him, hiding behind the first thing she could. It was a large barrel. Her heart was racing. She just had to not get hit.

Then it was a simple matter of finding him, and hitting him with a pellet. Couldn't be that hard right? She peeked out form behind her hiding place, looking for him. Castille kept low to the ground, running to another hiding place. The paint had dried on the chest plate.

Oh he was going to pay for that.

Nate ducked behind a free standing wall with a window, absolutely covered in various colors of paint as it was. It was a good place for him to hide, though, since he could peer through the window and not have to stick his head out too far around the edge of it.

He grinned, already having fun.

There was always a thrill in games like this. Maybe it was why he much rather train newbie senshi than train himself. It was competition, and it was a challenge. There was fun to be had, be it straight up in winning or personal, never to be shared, in seeing one of his friends flourish.

That last part was a little wussy for him though.

Paint began to splatter against the barrel she was hiding behind as Nate saw her peeking around her hiding place. He had a sniping set up from the window, shooting at the barrel and ducking down. It knocked off his aim when he wasn't watching but that was fine by him.

He poked his own head out to look at where she was, see what he was hitting.
PostPosted: Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:29 pm

She yelled when the paint exploded against the barrel, looking to see where it was coming from. But everything looked so innocent and paint splattered, it was hard to tell where the shots had come from. Castille decided now was a good time to practice her skills, so she froze, listening. They were coming from the other side of the barrel, and she peeked her head out from the top of it. Seeing a very messy window she waited. Was that where he was?

Nate poked his head out, and immediately Castille began firing, not really paying attention to aiming as much as she probably should. After four or five shots Castille took off for another hiding place, hoping to get up and around him. Her next refuge was a wall with a few holes of various sizes cut out of it, much like his window only a little more home made. She stuck her gun through one of them, peeking through another. The adrenaline was pounding, and she found herself grinning. It was like a James Bond movie or something!

Nate had to duck back behind the wall when the first pellet hit the side of the window. A second actually missed the construct and whizzed by the front of his nose. That had been close, but he was sure it had been an accident.

By the time he felt safe with the lack of shots and poked out to look for her again he could see she had moved from the barrel.

The hunt was on.

He ran from the free standing wall and window, heading for a pile of hay bales. He ran as fast as his legs could take him, which was rather fast considering all his training as a senshi. He leaped and rolled, mostly just for effect, though it would have been cooler with paint exploding at his heels.

Skidding to safety behind the hay, he peeked out over the lowest bale and set his gun on top of it, looking around to try and spot Castille. He couldn't see her, not yet at least.

Camping wasn't something Castille was familiar with. The concept of staying in one place for as long as possible was more of a good hide and seek strategy than a lame way to try and I've an advantage. So when Nate moved from his spot to another and she lost sight of him, she stayed behind that wall, peering through a hole larger than her head. She wanted to shout something, try to get him to respond. But she knew he wouldn't. He would use it to find her! Still...

There was another barrel not far from where she couched. It wa standing next to a second fallen one. Maybe she could trick him. Her leg muscles tensed, an she readied herself for a sprint.

"Hey that shot was cheap!" she shouted and then bee lined it for the two barrel.

"Cheap? I haven't shown you cheap yet!" He called back on instinct, not worrying about being found, it seemed. Or just not thinking about it. Boasting always came before personal safety, it seemed.

Not the smartest idea, but this was Nate. He wasn't the smartest guy.

Lifting his gun, he saw her as she emerged from behind the wall, and opened fire on the path in front of her. He was half standing behind the hay bale now, his upper body visible but only because he was unloading his shots at Castille and he knew she couldn't fire at him right away if she was running.

Well, he thought he knew that anyway.

But at least he knew the basic rules for fighting. He had to aim for where she was going, not where she was or had been, if he wanted to hit her while she was no the move.

He actually answered! She looked over her shoulder just in time to see him appear from behind a hay bale and start shooting her. The first one hit her leg, and second pellet exploding against the side of the chest plate. She shouted, a swear mixed in with laughter. Skidding to a halt behind the fallen barrel was a bit extreme. Once hidden, Castille did a mental check. The pain from the ball that hit her leg wasn't bad at all, and now that she had been hit once, it wasn't such a frightening thing. Now the adrenaline was spiking.

This was a new feeling. In all the games of volleyball she had played, she had never felt this kind of excitement. Her competitive nature kicked in, and her eyes narrowed. She knew where he was now. Every old war movie and battle scene she had seen rose up in her mind. That was all the experience she had with this sort of situation.

Castille crawled to the standing barrel and rose up behind it, pointing her paintball gun to where Nate was. She fired a few shots when she saw him, laughing. This was so much fun!

Nate had to admit, he was having a lot of fun. He liked shooting at her, for one thing, though that was more a primal thing that let him vent his hunter instincts without actually killing anyone or anything.

That was a part of himself he had not really explored. While he was all about trouble, about causing pain and kicking a**, he had not yet crossed that line. The one into killer, warrior, a soldier willing to do anything. If he would or not, however, was still a mystery. He certainly seemed capable of it, but maybe the chance to choose had not presented itself.

He wasn't thinking about that right now, anyway.

No, the fun he was having now was tied to just hanging out with someone he could have a good time with, who got him and understood that he was an a** hole but stuck around anyway. He told himself he didn't have many friends, but then when moments like this happened he almost realized how lucky he was.

Almost.

Her shots rang out and he felt the paint pellet smack into his shoulder before he had even moved to duck. She had changed her position and was shooting higher, so he ducked down for cover. He heard the hay making soft sounds as the pellets struck it. He needed to move again. taking a chance, he darted forward, aiming for a barrel that was closer to the one she was hiding behind.

Castille was having fun too. This kind of fun was completely different than what she was used to. Her friends liked to sit around, talk a lot, share funny stories. They liked to wander around town and window shop. But this was unique. The only thing she could equate it to was playing volleyball. The anticipation, and thoughts, the nerves were all similar to volleyball games. But this was unique because she wasn't playing her team mates, or an opponent. She was with a friend that didn't mind that she was super talkative, or that she wasn't a huge fighter. Nate was willing to hang out with her even though she was almost the complete opposite of him.

A triumphant grin crossed her face when his shoulder bloomed with paint. The grin stuck to her mouth as he moved toward her. He was getting closer! She fired toward him, forgetting completely that she should probably move away from Nate and his advancing paintball gun.

Nate didn't like any of those things that Castille's other friends were so fond of. The chances of him window shopping were lower than the chances of him freely offering someone a compliment. He did not do well when he was bored, either, and standing around or just talking were basically what he used as textbook examples of thoroughly and utterly boring wastes of time.

No, he'd rather waste his time and have fun doing it.

Now there was a difference between standing around talking, and doing something fun while allowing talking to happen. He didn't mind that she was talkative, because she was also willing to take risks, try new things, and maybe get into trouble if he was on his game.

She was a member of the few, the proud, the elite. The people Nate actually liked, as people, and as friends. Not that this status made him treat them particularly better, but there was at least a little difference.

Nate took the chance and charged her. It meant getting shot, sure, but he could also unleash a torrent of his own paintballs, which flew at an impressive rate and were aimed reasonably well considering the amount of practice he had.

"Better run, Red!" he yelled with a laugh.
