Birthday Surprise

Today was a special day. It was a day she always forgot about. The day she was born. Some how it was never very important to her. Not that her parents never made a spectacle of it. Since they definitely did. She remembers her sweet sixteen like it was yesterday...

She woke up and before she knew it she was bombarded with confetti and her room was decorated with decorations of all kinds. She stretched and looked all around with a smile. Her parents were definitely going overboard, but then again this was their first sweet sixteen. Since neither of their families had ever had one for them. She yawned and slowly got out of bed. Her parents really knew how to decorate and not to mention make her feel special.

She walked over towards her desk to check her phone but to her surprise their was a box right next to it. It had rainbow shiny circles on the wrapping paper and on top It had a note on it..

Put this on and we'll see you downstairs.
love mom & dad.
P.S. Happy Birthday dear!
xoxox

"Oh my," she said excitedly as she unwrapped it carefully. Inside was the most beautiful outfit she had ever seen. It was a white lace like top with a bright pink ruffled skirt attached to it. Below that was a blue jean jacket with a white laced flower backed. She pulled it all out and squealed. It was all so gorgeous and the closer she looked she noticed the skirt even sparkled like the night sky. Right underneath it was a purse to match it almost looked like it was covered in pink diamonds and it was the shape of a cupcake. One of her favorite things in the world. She rushed to put it on and twirled in the mirror. it was perfect. She looked herself up and down so many times. Her mom had to call down to her and tell her the last piece was by the mirror.

At first she was super confused, but then she saw the beautiful leather cowgirl boots. It really was the last piece needed. She hugged them, threw them on, and rushed down stairs with her beautiful outfit complete. "Thank you Mama! Papa!" she said as she ran down the stairs and hugged them both tightly. Her sweet sixteen was off to a great start and that wasn't even close to the end or beginning. (412 words to here)

Her parents both looked at her with a smile she could never forget. They both commented on how big she'd gotten and how they can't believe how time flew by. How it felt like it was just yesterday and they were holding her in their arms. Her father called her their little angel. That was when she smelled it. "Dad are you cooking something?" she said as he quickly rushed to the stove. He grabbed the pan flipped the pancakes and then placed them on the colorful plates on the counter right next to the stove. The pancakes were super fluffy and shaped like cute animals. She watched as he then added some whipped cream topped with strawberries and bananas.

They looked amazing, and she watched as her dad placed them on the counter top table. That was when she noticed it was also decorated for her occasion with a special cup just for her. It said Birthday girl! Though that wasn't the best part, for her it was just getting to see her parents together. They were wonderful parents, but their busy schedules didn't give them much time together. Her mom was normally in Paris and her dad in places like Japan or France. Not to today though today they were here eating pancakes and smiling. Which made her so happy as she finished her meal. She jokingly said - "Whats next?" she jumped off her stool chair and was ready to go.

She really hadn't expected anything much, but her answer was met with more excitement. "Well ..." her father said jokingly, "I was thinking about an international baking event. What do you have to say about that?"

Her mouth dropped open - was he joking she had only ever dreamer about. Of course her dream was to be in it one day, but she always still wanted to see those wonderful bakers. The way they baked was like they were writing their own songs. With each whisk and whip their songs were created. She could never take her eyes away and that was just on the television watching her fathers competitions. To see it in person she couldn't even imagine as she closed her mouth she jumped up from her chair smiling. "Well what are we waiting for!? Lets go!" she said happily as she waited for her dreams to come true and maybe she'd even get to watch her dad.

Since what a lot of people in their bakery didn't know is while her dad was an amazing chief not just in title but in much more. He never really went all out in their bakery's kitchen - he just had fun. Which was while he was smiling all the time when he baked there. He even had crazy competitions with her. Like who could make the biggest treat, or the purplest, or the most on fire dessert. Crazy things that would make others believe he was just making it all up and was some crazy guy.

They just didn't know everything about him.

His competition side - there he was like he was a god of flames. He was intense and every chief seemed to want to compete against him. Even if they fell to their knees they wanted to enter his world just for a moment. One moment was what most everyone who competed against him had. Since his win lose ratio was almost non-existent.

As he told her once though cooking at home he can have fun and be himself. Where as in competition it was just that - a competition on who was the best and while he had changed in the years since she had been born. At last that's what everyone who knew him said He was still amazing the greatest chief around or so she believed anyways. After all why would someone dream to compete against him it he wasn't.

Her birthday was turning out to be amazing, and just seeing her parents here. Happy, and so excited about a day they had welcomed a new face into their family. Her. While her family was crazy and always flying off somewhere. She was so happy this was the family she was born into.

As She waited for her parents to join her she smiled brighter than ever and then exited the door. Off onto the next part of her amazing birthday.

The road to a Dream come true....

They had taken a little detour on the way to the competition, but it wasn't a long one. Her dad had to stop for his tools he'd need for the match. Normally most bakers would have their butlers or help do it for them. Though he wasn't really like that.

Since they didn't have any butlers or staff in the house. Sometimes they'd have a cleaning service come by, though not often. He always told her that it was much more fun doing it yourself. Since you might have a favorite color tool or something you want that's out of the norm and someone might forget.

She used to laugh at the color part, but she kinda understood now. Since color was a huge part of everything a baker does. Be it golden or rainbow each dessert has their own color or design.

Mainly though she was so excited to watch not only her father, but the other bakers who worked their way up. Since the competition they were going to was once a year. Each baker had to compete in qualifiers.

Some qualifiers that she had read about were simple one on ones with three judges. They would judge based on taste, quality, and overall togetherness of the dessert. On rare occasions there would be ties, though she hadn't heard of any in years. Since two rivals were competing and they both made amazing high quality desserts that were on the same exceedingly high bar. In that case the exception was made to let both continue. Reason being they would probably never have an outcome in that battle, but if they went against future challenges their skills would tested. When her theory was they really just wanted to see where they could go and where they could truly reach too.

Now that wasn't the only qualifier they also had team bake offs as she liked to call them. This normally happened at schools or places where teams could be formed. Though on occasion they did team cook offs with randomly selected teams. They would separate bakers in to set teams and give them a week to get to know each other and train. Once the week was up they would be given a time and place. There they would find out their challenges.

Now it wasn't as simple as baking in a bakery or simple restaurant. Some times you would bake off individually, but be allowed the help others just like you were in a kitchen. Other times you would have to work together from all different walks of life and create a dessert that could blow the judges mind. Something creative and taste perfection.

Either way everyone here had worked really had to get there. Even her father. Now there was only one difference with him. Being the winner of the previous year he didn't have to compete until the challenge and could have taken it easy.

He didn't though he started from the bottom like all the other bakers. Went through all the same trials and tasks. He wanted to earn it, no matter if he won or not. Doesn't mean he should get a free pass. She honestly felt the same way and knew that one day when that was her. She would do the same.

Since every baker needs to work the same if they want the same outcome and the joy of their hard work paying off. Sure it meant he was away for a time, but she knew no matter where he was she was always right with him. After all no matter how far apart family is - their also always that much closer. Since they steal your heart and your mind at least hers did. Not just because they were always traveling, but because she knew they were a family that loved each other and cared so much about each other from whatever distance.

As they approached the competition ground competing entrance she could see all bakers unloading their wares. Some out of giant buses and others just small and compact that were able to be taken in cars trunks. As they pulled up to the side entrance their limo driver pulled up and stopped. He got out to open the door and her father exited first. As he got out he reached for her mothers hand and once she got out and smiled at him. her mother stood right next to him and then he said "Come on my princess," as he reached for her's as well.

She was so excited as she nodded and said "Yes papa" and grabbed his hand. She felt like a princess in that moment too. Especially when she saw that smile on her dad's face.

As they finished the driver closed the door and headed towards the trunk. He opened it and stepped out of the way. Allowing her father to grab his cases of supplies and tools. She watched as she saw him grab things and quickly rushed to his side. "Can I help papa?" she asked excitedly. She knew it was her birthday but she didn't care she still wanted to help as much as she could.

He laughed and nodded. "Sure I'll let you carry my specialist one." With that he reached in and pulled out a case with her and her mothers names engraved on the front. It was small like a steal game carrying case, but she knew with how he was handling it. It meant the world to him. As she grabbed it carefully she smiled so brightly, "Yay! I'll carry it carefully I promise papa!" She said happily as she then went back towards her mother and waited for him to get everything he needed unloaded.

After that was finished he had a few cases in his hands and arms and a few the event crew were taking in for him. He came right next to his family and they walked in the doors that were only for finalists. So many people said hi to her father as they walked in and even a few to her mother who knew her as the top model she was. She was so in awe. It was amazing. The place was so elegant it was like they were walking through the palace of a castle. Only the best for the finalists she assumed. After all. They had all worked very hard to get here and winning this she had heard would make the m the champion baker of the world.

All the while as they walked he just smiled and was so kind to everyone no matter who they were. A few saw her and whispered that - they had heard of his daughter but never seen her before. They all seemed to whisper and wonder if that's who she was, but none dared to ask. They all seemed to fascinated with her father and what his plans were.
That ended though as he reached the door with his name above it. Someone opened the door for them and they walked in. After that door closed they heard nothing, not anything but their own footsteps it was as if they all just disappeared.

Her father let out a sigh and set his cases down. The room was like a fairy tale. It had a table with silk table clothes and fancy china. Amazing gourmet food on side tables. Even the most amazing furniture she had ever seen.

She was so happy as she walked to her father and handed him his special case. which he promptly put in the safe on the edge of room. She didn't know what it was but whatever it was she knew it was special to him or he never would have put their names on it.

She then danced around the room. "Papa this is amazing!" She said out-loud not able to contain her excitement any longer.
He smiled towards and said, "Anything for my princess."
"Oh and before I forget. I even had them prepare some special food for you and those gifts at the edge underneath the table are all yours." he said as she quickly rushed over to the table. He was right there was a ton of her favorite foods. Even pizza!

She was so excited and happy. That she almost forgot about the presents as she noticed the wrapping out of the corner of her eye.

She rushed over to them like a kid on sugar, and hugged each one as she brought it to the couch. She put them all on the table in front of the couch and then sat on the couch waiting for her parents to join her. Before she began to open them.

That was until she heard the voice on the speakers above them say, "5 minutes till all attendees must be prepared to compete."

She watched as her fathers face drooped a bit. "I'm sorry - looks like these will have to wait a until after I'm sorry princess..." he said kinda sad like.

She jumped off the couch and raced over to her father. She then jumped on him, hugged him, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "No worries papa! I can't wait to cheer you on!" she said happily as he gave her a hug in return before she went over to her mother.

She and her mother wished her father good luck and exited the door. Right as the one minute rang. They headed to their seat out in the arena, or well special area for the last years winners guest. And she waited in awe as the lights the dimmed and her heart raced as she waited for the bell to ring. As she heard it she knew the show was just about to start and she had front row pass. Though not only that but she would finally see the fire king her father truly was.

SOLO

Today was the day she would watch her father compete in the baking finals. He was one of two contestants who had beaten hundreds out to be the best. She already knew her father was the best in town and country. Though now this competition would allow her to say he was the best in the world.

She was sad she couldn't be there with him today, though it didn't stop her from turning the competition on every television in the bakery. Not one person even minded, since her father had the whole town rooting for him.

Though as she waited for the competition to begin she heard the bell ding on the oven. Ding ding ding. She quickly rushed towards the back with her blonde ponytail swishing in the air as she threw on her oven mitts. Then she grabbed the handle and reached her gloved hands inward to pull out the most perfect-looking cupcakes. They smelled just delicious she thought as she set the on the cooling racks. She aimed every day to be as exceptional as a baker as her father was. She wanted her baking to bring smiles to everyone in their community and even those in our countries.

As she set the cupcakes down to cool, she took off her mitts and hung them next to the oven. Then she exited the kitchen doors and went to see how all the customers were doing. The walk of the temporary owner she called it, after all her father had said that until he got back she was in charge and he wanted her to show him what that meant.

Amigar arrived at the first table and she remembered them right away. Harold and his wife Sophie, are the kindest people you could ever meet. They had been in love practically all their lives, but she wouldn't give in to his charms and refused to date him. Though she said he was so persistent she finally caved and here they were married for decades. One day she hoped she could find someone like they had found each other, but she quickly shook her head and smiled. She needed to remember why she was here.

Amigar greeted them and asked how they liked they liked their pastries. He just smiled, but his wife jumped on the conversation and explained they loved them as usual but were really here to watch her father compete. They said they were here to cheer him on and they wanted her to know that she was running the place beautifully.

Just hearing that made her filled with happiness she was so thankful for the wonderful customers. She smiled and said she appreciated their support and she was so happy they were here. She told them to feel free to stay as long as they needed since they were always welcome here. With that, she said her goodbyes, got lots of hugs, and moved forward with her day.

That was when she heard the television say the competition was beginning, she turned around and her eyes lit up like the fourth of July. It was all about to begin and this could be the change not only for her father but also for their whole life.
