Rayna had watched with alarm as her team's insurmountable lead was made surmountable as Team Puffs halved the remaining amount of runs needed to at least tie the ball game. She could hear the crowd hooting and hollering at at times the very raucous meowing of the cats that had attended the charity event.

That made her smile. Gripping her bat tightly Rayna swung a few times as she wasn't up to bat yet just to get a feel of what she needed to do once more. As the batter in front of her hit the ball but had the Puffs infield crew do an excellent job of getting her out at first Rayna accepted the high-five from Ming-Na before taking her own place in the batter's box. Visually distracted for a moment Rayna missed the first pitch and could hear a groan from the crowd. 'Next one, no matter what, it's out of the infield,' her mantra repeated as she scuffed her shoes into the dirt and took a ready stance again.

And here came the ball. Rayna's tongue peeked out from the corner of her mouth as she brought the bat around in a hard swing and felt the resulting smack of wood against ball and dropped the bat before running to first base. It seemed as if her swing had even more power though as she was soon rounding second and stopping at third base. Cupping her hands to her mouth she shouted to the next batter, "C'mon Rob, hit me in!"

They needed to make up those three runs. They could still win this!
Jackie wasted no time in getting bat and helmet to get out there into the white chalk box. Three was manageable! They just needed to get on base!


But this pitcher had a WICKED spin on that ball or something, because despite modest aims and hopes and tries for a fast grounder, the ball came off Hayworths bat high and in the infield for an easy catch. Easy out. One down, with a frown.

Jackie had no luck, if they were relying on luck. Maria wrung white knuckles nervously on the bat handle while giving a nod to the teammate passing back into the dugout. Someone had to get one base.
Just on. Nothing special.
Swing and a miss.
Just on base, that wasn't hard. Just hit the ball.

Even a bunt. Did bunting work in the high-arc of slowpitch?

That was three. Two outs.

The Battle was fierce, but at the end of 7 innings, the Stuffs held onto their rally lead, winning the game! Everyone was welcomed to keep their shirts and hats as mementos, team photos were taken to be emailed out and put up on social media platforms. All money collected at the concession stand was donated to the charities that supported the event. Many cats were fawned on. One or two may even have found forever homes.

A hearty thank you to everyone who was willing to give this rp a go~ Your participation was wonderful, and my apologies that it wasn’t as smooth as a more accomplished, experienced eventer may have been able to provide. But away from mushy stuff, and to the crown token raffle. Those who signed up to do the rolling on the teams were marked as eligible, without penalties for missed posts given the failure on the host’s part to keep it smooth to original projections. Those who bowed out have been removed.
