Gwendolyn Caspian didn’t know what to think when Maddy came home and told her about the new webcam that she purchased, but she wasn’t too surprised when she found that she had already set it up, on HER computer. Which meant that Maddy would be spending more time in her room, using her computer, and likely butting in on her gaming time (as well as possibly being there when she needed a place to return to from her nightly patrols, but she at least had the tool shed in the back to slip into if she needed to transform. Which was NOT a fun prospect for Gwen to have to deal with in the future. And her reasoning? To stay in contact with mom… and him. Gwen made it clear that she didn’t like him. He may have given her the adorable pet rat that had accompanied her to Destiny City and various places, and he may have even been his name sake, but Gwen simply did not like him. Her stepfather was very clingy to Sarah, and she didn’t like it. At all. He was also a smooth talker, able to convince not only her mom, but Maddy, into seeing things his way, but he couldn’t fool Gwen. Sarah didn’t need him; she was a strong, independent woman, and he was simply using her! For what, Gwen didn’t know what or why, but she was absolutely certain of it. She was a Caspian, not a Lionel, and she let it be known when she pressed ‘Decline’ when the prompt popped up. “I have a cell phone, and Mom can call me with that!” Gwen said aloud to Micah, the rat that had poked his head out of his igloo at the sound of her voice. The fancy rat wriggled its nose and whiskers but was, per usual, quiet, which was a smart feat considering how Gwen liked to rant. She continued to remove her uniform, bit by bit, speaking to her little furry friend while she slipped into something more comfortable. “Like I want to hit accept and it turns out to be HIM! The only Micahs I want to talk to are the fat little rat in my room, and this friend of Jett, who sounds like she’s as much of a trouble maker as you.” Again, the rat resorted to a few hiffs before moving out of his igloo and climbing up the bars, waiting eagerly for his owner to allow him out of the cage. He didn’t have to wait long, as no sooner did Gwen throw on a t-shirt, she opened the cage door and allowed the rat to crawl onto her hands. She gave him a pat on the head before setting him down on her bed, and once again her messenger chimed. “Would you like to accept video chat? NO!” Again, she declined, making sure to hit the button with even more force though she knew it wouldn’t do much of anything. It wasn’t going to make the refusal to chat any clearer to the gentleman on the other side, but it made Gwen feel better. Gwen could have used anything as an excuse to NOT talk to him, but she decided to go with the truth, and the easiest to get into. Video games! “Alright, Kingdoms of Amular, let us hope you are both loud and completely enthralling!” Gwen said with a devious grin, opening the case and putting it into her PS3, making sure that the volume would be high enough to block out the annoying chime. A girl had to have her alone time, and this was one of the rare days that she wasn’t bogged down with summer reading; like hell did a Caspain allow a good chance to go to waste! ’If Maddy wants to talk to him, then she can move the webcam to –her-computer instead. I have a kingdom to save… or something… what IS the point of this game anyway?’There was one way to find out… (word count: 672)

“So in the end, we lost anyway?”The last thing that Sailor Tsui recalled in the battle was herself charging towards General Benitoite, with nothing but red, hot anger burning within her and determination to keep her going, despite the obvious power difference between them or the spear that he held that could have easily ended her life in a single blow. Her own mortality didn’t seem to register in her own mind in the middle of a battle. Why would it have? All Tsui could focus on was enemy that stood ahead of her, and even that focus was forced away from her when he simply disappeared from sight. Had he left? Where did he go? This question remained on her mind, even when the police sirens were going on outside the building. She had stood there, staring at the spot that Benitoite used to be and merely getting a glimpse of Kallichore before a silver light rushed over them. And now, here she was on the moon, with other confused and relieved Senshi, Knights, Chibi and guardian cats around her. She felt some relief, but it was short lived. They had managed to survive, but they lost the fight. They lost horribly. And now, here they were, standing in the outskirts of a fallen kingdom, and Chibimoon’s story had entered her mind briefly. Even the sight of Queen Serenity, the Moon Queen, had not been able to remain in Tsui’s mind for long. Not when her fuku was tattered and stained with blood, blood of her enemy and comrades she failed to save. Why hadn’t Queen Serenity acted sooner? Why didn’t see save everyone? She was certain that Kallichore or Pasiphae would be looking for her, and she even caught a glimpse of Kallichore as she was moving towards the Jovians, but Tsui didn’t approach them. She couldn’t approach them. She had no right to. They spoke of having peace with the Negaverse and the Dark Mirror Court, and she had spoken up with them. Yet, she threw a punch without a second thought, and the thought of killing them had crossed her mind more than once. She even struck at Valhalla... because he was standing his moral ground and being true to his words. And she didn’t regret it. Instead, Tsui took a step back, away from the Jovians and moved further away from the others, from the Castle that they were welcomed to go to. Tsui had no interest in what laid in that castle; what use was the past to her now? Zirconia had warned them of such things, as did Lina, and she hadn’t listened then. Why should she have cared now? The truth of the Negaverse and the DMC were utterly clear in Tsui’s mind now, and Zirconia’s and Lina’s words came with a painful truth. ”There... can’t be peace with the Negaverse. Nor the Dark Mirror Court.” Tsui thought bitterly to herself, finding a spot to where she could be alone and taking a seat, to stare at the Earth below. She didn’t care for what was going on behind her, and she couldn’t dare face her comrades now. All she wanted to do was sit down and stare at the planet that she called home, a planet that the Chaos faction had a firm grip on, a planet that didn’t seem to need, or want, any of them. Her own words at the meeting were coming back to haunt her now, and it hurt to hear how incredibly naive, insensitive... foolishly idealistic she had sounded. Her own words echoed throughout her mind, and Tsui never cried often. Except for this night. This night, she cried at the sight of a page being ripped to shreds, at the sight of many dying, being twisted and corrupted against their will. And now she cried because she was wrong. There couldn’t be peace now between either side. She was wrong to think so. And because of that, many were dead. Many would have family members that would never know the truth of their child’s or loved one’s disappearance. Tears streamed down her face, and she lowered her head, hoping that the silence would not carry her sobs to the rest of them. She didn’t want them to see how young, how truly pathetic she looked right now. She failed to save anyone this evening, and she failed to stick true to her own code of peace when the time came. And now, she failed at being able to accept her failure with enough pride to approach any of them, even after the fighting was over. ”There can’t be peace now. There can’t. I’m sorry.” Tsui thought to herself, doing nothing to stop the tears but trying to keep the sobs soft and to herself. She clenched her blood stained hands into fists, and continued to cry, even when Queen Serenity had sent them all away. It may have been a wasted opportunity for the Tiger Senshi, but now, she truly didn’t care. All she wanted to do was cry. And cry in solitude. She’d deal with the rest of the world later... for now, she simply cried. (Word Count: 863)

Gwendolyn Caspian was still sore. So very, very sore. And to say that her pride was still tender was a gross understatement, as she hadn’t really ventured out of her room, as either Gwen or her Senshi alter-ego Sailor Tsui ever since the attack and it wasn’t just recovering from the physical wounds that she had suffered. Everything seemed to have gotten so complicated in the past few weeks, and Gwen thought she had it figured out. Then the meeting happened, and then, the ambush. Now, she was back to understanding and knowing nothing about her Senshi alter-ego and her duties or goals… again. So, she surrendered the alter-ego for awhile, at least until she could move around from point A to point B without groaning like a wounded animal. However, it was her wounded pride that kept Gwen a shut in throughout the rest of the week. She didn’t want to do anything. She didn’t want to draw, or play her video games, or even call anyone, family, friends or anything of the like. And the worst part was that she couldn’t pinpoint why. She thought she had handled the fight considerably well, and while her ego was rather big, she usually could accept when she was wrong about something. But this was something different. It wasn’t being wrong on a school test or something stupid as a fandom or casual talk. Because she was wrong, Senshi and Pages had died, and that was kept Gwen under her blankets, even as she could hear her sister climbing up the stairs. And it wasn’t just being wrong and their deaths that tore at her conscious, but the fact that when it came to fight the members of Chaos or seek peace with them, as she had been advocating, she had thrown a punch without hesitation the moment they attacked, and though brief, there was still the thought of outright killing them that was present in her mind. Still present in her mind. The click of the lights did nothing for Gwen as she had already surrendered deeper under the blankets, but she couldn’t pretend to ignore Maddy’s shout, the only warning before someone came jumping onto her bed. “Get up, lazy butt! Get up, get up!” Gwen moaned and grabbed the blankets before her sister could think to pull them off, and she hid back a pained hiss as her sides and legs were still sore from the fight. “Don’t wanna.” “But it’s your birthday! And not just ANY birthday!” Maddy said triumphantly, grabbing the blankets and practically ripping it out of Gwen’s fingers before she had the chance to latch on. With the way that she was acting, one would think that it was Maddy’s birthday, and Gwen tried to keep her bitterness to herself, as well as her surprise. She had completely forgotten what day it was, much less what month! “It’s your Sweet Sixteen! Do you know what that means?” “I finally get to drink?” Gwen replied back with some snark, a hint of her old self shining through but only for a moment before she actually crawled closer to Maddy’s lap. She took her sister by surprise when she rested her head on her thigh and she made sure to put on the biggest smile she could muster as to not worry her sister anymore than she already had for her to be acting like this. “Or maybe I can finally get a license and drive away?” “Ha ha, very funny. But that means that your big sister is going to smother you with all the love and affection that she can muster, as well as throw you the biggest party that she can! I even got cake and ice cream!” Maddy didn’t fight the affection, relaxing into the hold and stroking Gwen’s hair as though she were a cat. Maddy hadn’t said anything but Gwen knew she worried her with her sudden reclusive nature, and this was merely an excuse to draw her out. “You have any friends that you want to invite?” “A few, but… they’re busy.” Gwen said, then mentally, to herself. ”Or Senshi… assuming they weren’t killed or corrupted in the battle…”Then, a thought came to her mind, and Gwen gave her sister’s stomach a poke. “We haven’t been to the zoo in awhile. Can we go there?” “It’s YOUR birthday, you chose what we do!” Maddy said with a kind smile, and she found a way to wriggle herself out from under Gwen’s head without completely dropping her on the floor as she left the room. “You can even bring Micah with you, just promise me you won’t pull him out and cause a riot or something? I doubt the police will allow that excuse to fly.” Gwen replied with a nod and a smile of her own, this one more genuine and true, and she lingered on the bed for a few moments more before willing herself to sit up. It was painful, but she was certain that she’d be able to walk it off. To think, her whole ordeal with the ambush had almost made her forget about her birthday… she scoffed, jumping to her feet and giving her body a stretch. They had already taken away the lives of her fellow Senshi and pages, had damaged her pride and made her a fool to the others. But they will NOT take away this girl’s Sweet Sixteen birthday!
