The spawn made her way down the sidewalk, hair falling around her head like a dark curtain, shading her eyes from the unforgiving summer sun. She picked up the pace; the sooner she got to Uncle Matthias' house, the better. She made a quick turn, taking a short cut through several yards and an alley before finding herself in her uncle's backyard. She paused, admiring her uncle's gardening skills as she usually did, envying his beautiful yard. Gardening was an art, and her uncle took art very seriously, treating it almost as a religion rather than a hobby. Of course, one couldn't help but notice the barren crater where his roses used to be; such a shame.

She made her way to the back door, grateful when it opened as she stepped onto the back porch. She stepped into the house, immediately comforted by the cool, air-conditioned atmosphere.

"You do know all the emergency numbers and procedures, correct, Azubahiel?" the raven-haired fae asked, moving about as he looked for his car keys. Uncle Matthias was one of the few people who bothered to call her by her full name.

"Course." was the spawn's single-word reply. She'd baby-sat for him before. "You go. Will handle things. Don't worry." She waved as her uncle left, then headed to the nurseries to greet her younger siblings. What she didn't expect was that one of them would come to greet her.

The golden toddler walked out into the hallway, her gait unsteady. "Orita." she said simply, glancing around. Where had her orita gone? She looked up, a small smile forming on her face as she saw her older cousin. "'Zu!" she greeted, wobbling over as quickly as she could manage to hug the older girl around the legs. "Orita?"

'Zuba smiled, picking the toddler up. "My, my....grew." she said, chuckling. "Your daddy shopping....be back soon. Promise." Aife she liked. If she could, she'd trade a certain sister for the golden toddler any day. She walked into the red and gold nursery to check on her other relative. The little deer slept peacefully in his crib, the occasional bleat twining together with his breathing. Hm. Today's baby-sitting job seemed easier than she'd anticipated.

Aife nodded, getting the gist of what the older girl was saying. Of all of her new relatives, her 'Zu had to be the easiest to understand. "Hungwi." she said, rubbing her belly for emphasis. She'd only recently grown, so she was still suffering from a voracious appetite. Hey, growing took a lot of energy!

'Zuba smiled, turning and heading down to the kitchen. "Want?" she asked, not exactly sure what a child this age ate. Well, looks like she'd find out. She got no response from the toddler, who was busy playing with her hair and examining the two different textures, so she decided to take a guess and hope it'd work out. All kids liked peanut butter and jelly, right? She sat the toddler down before busying herself with the sandwich making.

Aife watched, curious. Food was done differently here than it had been at her previous home; it was simply amazing! They actually made everything! She toddled over, trying to look up on the counter. Hey, she wanted to watch! She gave up after a minute or so of standing on tip toe, deciding she'd rather sit on the floor and trace the texture of the linoleum with a chubby finger.

----

After few minute, the sandwich was done. "Here...." 'Zuba said, handing the little one the plate. The smile she got in return simply warmed her heart; her little cousin looked so happy over peanut paste and artificially-flavored jelly smeared on bread and smooshed together. Little kids were so easy to get along with, and usually easy to please....why couldn't they stay that way as they got older?

"We got everything?" The blonde boy asked, too busy hovering over a steaming pot of what appeared to be some kind of stew to check. Why was he asking that question right in the middle of cooking? Because it wasn't the first time he asked.

"Yes." the split girl replied, busily chopping a slab of chicken into inch-thick slices. She didn't seemed annoyed by her younger sibling's repetitive question; he just wanted to make sure they didn't have to scramble for ingredients. She couldn't very well blame him for that, now could she?

"Good. How's the chicken roll-ups coming along?" Zemel asked as he reached for the spice rack above the stove, adding in a little mint to the stew to draw out the flavor. He was smiling lightly; this was the first time him and Older Sister Azubahiel had done much of anything together, let alone cook together.

"Good. Seasoning it now." 'Zuba said, smiling lightly. She glanced over and into the pot, looking at it for a moment. "Add a pinch of brown sugar. Makes meat taste sweeter." she suggested as she busied herself. She focused on the newly sliced chicken, coating each slice with a mix of pepper, salt, garlic, and oregano. This was one of the best ideas they'd come up with yet.

Zemel smiled; why hadn't he thought of that? He added a small pinch of the brown sugar, hopefully not enough to overpower the overall taste. He wanted a savory stew, not a sweet one.

While Zemel worked on the stew, 'Zuba continued with the chicken dish. She had the chicken slices laying out in a row; one for each member of the family, including Circe and Janali. She lightly sprinkled the slices with Parmesan cheese, before adding a slice of provalone and mozzarella to each one. She then rolled them up carefully before setting them into the sizzling pan of olive oil.

The blonde boy put a lid on the stew, leaving it to simmer at about the same time 'Zuba put the last roll-up on the pan. "On to the cookies?" he asked, offering a small smile.

'Zuba smiled, shaking her head. "Go ahead. Got to watch." she said, motioning to the skillet. "Make sure it doesn't burn." She was not going to have perfectly good food go to waste just because she wanted to make cookies. She focused on the chicken, trying to distract herself as Zemel got to work on the cookies.

Zemel nodded before getting to work. They didn't have time to make regular cookies, like sugar or chocolate chip. But, he did see a pretty cool recipe for no-bake cookies he'd been itching to try... He went to the cabinets, gathering some cocoa powder, oatmeal, and a few other components before getting to the rather-messy task of actually making the cookies.

----

"Hurry! They're gonna be in here any minute!" Zemel said, scrambling to assemble the dinner plates like he'd seen the chef's do on Food Network. Unfortunately, it wasn't turning out like on television, where every plate was picture-perfect. No, in fact, none of them were, but they didn't have time to fix it.

'Zuba merely answered him with a nod, running the plates from the counter to the table that sat in the kitchen. Mother would be in here any minute to get started on dinner; she could be coming any minute. Just as she sat the last plate onto the table top, the kitchen door opened. Her and Zemel looked up, one of them offering a small smile while the other was beaming.

"Surprise!"

Neither of them had though about how much of a mess they'd made of Mother's kitchen. Whoops.

Say what?

'Zuba gets a small dose of the dreaded mood swings, and ends up hurting one of her friends! And then runs away? Lordy, 'Zu, you sure know how to get into trouble.

The girl bolted down the sidewalk, the rubber soles of her Converses slapping the pavement as she ran. She couldn't believe what she'd judt done....how could she? True, what Vincent said was untrue...but it didn't merit the punishment she'd just doled out. And the thing was...'Zuba had no idea why'd she done it. One minute she was fine, the next.... It was like someone flipped a switch. She didn't mean to get that angry, really, she didn't....

But she had. And she'd hurt Vinny. And now...now she was running. She wasn't sure where she was going, or why....but she had to get away. Had to go. Had to run. She ran and ran until her legs ached, threatening to give out. She leaned against a building, her hands on her knees for balance as she tried to catch her breath. She looked up glancing around her surroundings. Where...where was she? Great. Not only did she beat up someone whom she thought of as a brother, then run away; now she was lost. She sighed, pushing away from the wall as she started to head back the way she came. Maybe she could find her way home? She couldn't have gone too far, right?

She stopped after walking a few blocks, looking up. *Please....please tell me that's not what I think it is...* she thought, silently hoping and wishing. Unfortunately, it was exactly what she thought it was: rain. It started as a fine mist, but quickly developed into the good-old heavy, raining cats and dogs kind of rain. Lucky her. The water plastered her hair around her head, and only took a few minutes to completely soak her hoodie, causing it to cling to her body. Her headwing folding in close to her head in a futile attempt to stay dry.

New plan. Instead of finding her way home, time to find shelter from the rain. Her eyes glanced around at her unfamiliar surroundings, landing on a nearby park. It was a lot smaller than the one she usually went to, and the upkeep of it wasn't as good. But, it had a jungle gym with a platform and a roof. Perfect. She raced over, trying to ignore the throbbing in her calves as she quickly scaled the ladded, climbing onto the wooden, sharpie-marked platform. She drew her knees up to her chest, wringing the water from her hair and hoodie as best as she could. This was great...just great.

A small sniffle came from the girl as she gave her knees a tight hug, burying her split face in her arms. She wanted to go home! Mother was probably furious with her now... she'd be lucky if Mother even let her come back home. Especially after what she did to poor Vincent. Vincent....she hoped the boy was okay. She was a horrible person for attacking him like that, simply horrible. She hugged her knees tighter, her hair falling forward to hide her face as the tears started to fall.

She would have had some inward complaints about her current situation, about being cold and wet, lost and huddled at a dingy old park, but... she honestly felt she deserved this. She deserved every bit of this. She wiped at her eyes to dry away the tears, forgetting that her sleeve was already wet. "Want to go home..." she muttered softly to the rain drops falling around her. "Want to apologize..." She leaned back against the railing, closing her eyes.

Maybe if she went to sleep, she'd wake up back in her room to find out this was all just a bad dream. Yeah, that had to be it... She curled up on the damp platform, drawing her hood up over head before drifting off to sleep.

The split little hybrid awoke to the bright light of the mid-morning sun and a crick in her neck and back. She stood up on the platform, stretching and popping her joints in an attempt to get rid of the stiffness. Her hoodie and hair was still damp from the day before, much to her dismay. So, it wasn't just a bad dream. She sighed, leaning against the railing.... and quickly jumping away when it swayed outward. She frowned, then glanced out at the empty, dilapidated park. What was she going to do now?

Her body made that decision for her, her stomach growling and gurgling out its request for food. Okay, looks like finding food was first on her agenda. Not what she had in mind, but... She climbed down from the platform, making her way out of the park. She noted it's location; if she couldn't find her way back home, she'd sleep here again. She ignored the mud that lay around her previous shelter, doing her best to walk through it without losing a shoe. The mud gripped at her feet, as if trying to suck her under like quicksand.

After a few minutes of struggling, she managed to make her way to the nice, non-muddy street. Now....how was she going to get food? She had no idea where she was, and no money to pay for food. She couldn't steal any, because to be honest, she kinda stood out in a crowd. What to do, what to do? She started walking, trying to ignore the rumbling in her stomach. She glanced around for anything that looked like it might have food, but was greeted with only cold, corporate skyscrapers and rundown apartment complexes. Luck was not in her favor, apparently.

*It doesn't matter, anyways.* she thought to herself, sighing as she trekked down the unfamiliar sidewalk. This was all probably part of her punishment, anyhow, so she deserved it. She probably- Her train of thought was suddenly interrupted as a car swerved, intentially hitting a puddle and splashing her with the dirty, muddy, oil-laced water it had held. She froze before slowly wiping her face off with her sleeve. Okay, she was a horrible, horrible person, but did she honestly deserve that? Laughter could be heard, a slowly fading sound as the car drove off, leaving the preteen to stand there in shock.

She kept walking through the maze of concrete buildings, the unforgiving sun beating down on her as it reached its midday position. Her stomach was now even more vocal, it's demanding grumble almost a roar. Her head hurt as well; not a good sign. Oh, what she wouldn't give for-

"'Zuba?"

'Zuba looked up as the pale, ebony-haired man rushed over to her. Uncle Matthias? Her lips moved, as if to speak, though no sound came out. The fae stopped in front of her, and she could vaguely make out the words "you okay" from a long line of speech. Tears filled her golden green eyes, and she suddenly launched herself at the adult, hugging him tightly.

Matthias blinked, surprised. She'd gone from looking blank to a total emotional mess in the blink of an eye. Ugh, teenagers. Or, in this case, preteens. He hugged her before lifting her up, cradling her in his arms like one might a small child. "Shh....it is okay, Azubahiel. It is okay now." he murmured, gently petting her hair.

Azubahiel clung to him, afraid this might just be a dream and he might disappear on her. "'M sorry, 'm sorry..." she mumbled between slowly stopping sobs. She rested her head against him, sniffling.

"It is okay now, Azubahiel. You are safe now." the fae said softly, hugging her gently. "Come now; let us get you home. Your mother will be glad to see you."

"Home..." 'Zuba murmured, fresh tears welling at her eyes before the crying came back with a vengeance.

Dear Diary;

It's been....eventful, to say the least, these past few days. I hurt Vincent.... and pretty badly, at that. I did not mean to; I did not mean to get that mad or to hurt him like that. And then, I got all weepy and, good gods, what is going on with me? I am not used to my emotions coming in surges like that... If I would have been thinking clearly, I never would have hit Vincent...or cried the entire way home and then some.

Mother says that it is a part of growing up, these "mood swings" as she called them. What. The. Hell. I would rather stay a child, then. At least as a child, I'm level headed. Ugh. Well, Mother and I had a talk over lunch when I got back...well, after I stopped bawling my eyes out. I guess I hurt Vincent worse then I thought; he had a concussion and had to go out to the hospital. I must be a horrible person for doing that to one of my best friends.

Anyways, Mother says I should go apologize. I told her I would...but I am putting it off. Between you and me...I am afraid to. I am sure he must hate me now; I would not blame him if he did. His mother must be furious with me.... she has every right to be. It will be rather awkward, but I will keep my word. Eventually.

I know I should go as soon as possible, but.... It is complicated. I am working on an apology card for him. Hopefully, we can still be friends. I do not deserve his friendship, but one can hope, right? Besides, my drawing sucks. I would not be surprised if he took insult to it as opposed to seeing it as an apology. Curse my lack of artistic skills.

Sister Nataya came to talk with me while I was drawing. She was worried too, and wanted to make sure I was okay. I do not see why they all worry about someone like me; I am not worthy of it. Sister looks tired; she has been sleeping quite a lot lately. We do not know what is wrong. Mother speculates that this may be a sign that she is about to grow. I would not know; I was adopted after Sister grew the last time.

I do not seem to be in much trouble, which varies quite differently from my previous prediction. Apparently, Mother was more worried then mad. She does not seem to notice that I failed to buy the groceries she required. I'll get them as soon as everyone stops hovering over me like a moth to a light bulb.

After that...after that, I do believe I will go see Vincent. Well, maybe. Maybe I should wait, and bake him cookies or something. That way, maybe the treats can make up for the poorly created artwork. Maybe; my cooking isn't that good, especially compared to Little Brother's.

I would go see Vincent now, but...perhaps it would be a good idea to visit when his mother isn't there. I have heard the phrase "hell hath no fury like a pissed mother", and I would rather not risk my life trying to deliver a crappy drawing and sub-par cooking, thank you very much. Perhaps I could have Zemel find out when she will be gone for me...I would ask Ginger, but frankly, I do not trust the little witch.

I must be going now; since the drawing is finished, I shall move on to deciding what to cook and talking with Zemel. Hopefully, everything will work out. Though, some how, I highly doubt that. Mother would call this pessimism; I call being realistic.

- 'Zuba

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)
