Vince grinned as Olivia challenged his assertation. "It is not something one can explain in words. It is an experience in flavor that you must try for yourself." He insisted. "Do not concern yourself. We shall amend this disgrace tonight." With a teasing grin it quickly became clear that Olivia's story had sold him. Perhaps if he didn't already fully and openly trust her, he might have been suspicious, but right now he was willing to accept the possibility she had missed out on the famous street burger of Johto.
Though the thoughts of the distortion world brought mixed feelings, Vince quickly moved on to thinking of enhancing his homemade soup skills by making a stew he knew to go with the burgers. The only problem was that in order to create all this food, they needed the kitchen appliances to make it happen, which couldn't be rented and weren't worth carrying around with them everywhere. Thankfully Yue offered a solution, and Vince snorted lightly at Olivia's pun. "That was terrible." Though, the amused look on his face said that he thought otherwise.
Olivia's reaction to his teasing about her age vs her actions was quite amusing as well. "I never said that being young at heart was bad. I merely suggested that if you would like to throw the metaphorical elder card around, you need to back up such claims." He insisted with a calm but smug smile. "That is to say, you cannot have it both ways." He insisted, chuckling as she suggested how he acted like an old man. "Just as you are young at heart, perhaps I have an old soul. It does seem to balance well." He agreed. "However that is part of why I don't see you as my elder." To further prove his point, they ended up arguing about holograms. "Good to know..." Vince mused as the elgyem suggested she wouldn't use her powers for such a trivial thing. It probably shouldn't have been as much of a relief as it was, but Vince supposed the idea of mind-reading and manipulation still bothered him.
Olivia's dramatic acting for comedic effect was usually one of the quirks about her that Vince found amusing most of the time, but... Something else stirred in Vince this time as he watched her stare wistfully out to sea and softly sigh those words, something ugly, jealous, and possessive that was quickly locked away, leaving Vince slightly frazzled. He supposed it showed, because Olivia had taken notice. "Hm? Yes, why?" He smiled slightly, but it didn't meet his eyes. He relaxed a little though as they joked about Olivia giving herself a stern talking to and distracted themselves with shopping for their picnic.
The store was gigantic with everything they needed and more. "I was referring to keeping the store well stocked, but that too." He nodded with a chuckle. She had a point, if they stood there gawking and discussing store maintenance then they'd be here all day. Vince moved about the produce, gathering what might have seemed like a rather eclectic assortment of ingredients; spices, bay leaves, cilantro, ginger, lemongrass, peppercorn, scallions, soy sauce, pork belly, shrimp, mushrooms, rice, and chicken broth to name a few. "That should do it." He nodded, taking his basket to the checkout and hoping he'd remembered everything. "Normally we make the buns from scratch too, but since there are no ovens in the woods I hope you will excuse my cut corners." He suggested, gesturing to the buns they were buying. Once they were checked out, they met with Yue on the way out of the store, who allowed Vince to put his ingredients in a cooler that she had purchased before teleporting it away (presumably with their other new appliances).
Xiu Feng tilted her head curiously as Blue suggested Olivia had no wrinkly old human to cook for her. ('Really? Then who cooks her family food?') Because obviously, that was how human society worked. She knew that. ('I hope so. I'm starving and they didn't give us any of the puffy color bread things.') She huffed, unaware that Blue had lost his appetite.
Zero made note of Leon's reaction, but decided against a comment. They can go without the tapes, then. I'll still have about the same advice, he expected, brushing some of the hair out of his face. "Well to some degree, it's in the name--you'll need to coordinate with your pokemon." An easy enough place to start, he figured. "You already know how best to groom a pokemon, so now you just have to learn to groom yourself. It's little more than a performance, so you have to equally look the part as much as you can act it."
He paused momentarily to think of a good example, but before he had an opportunity to explain in more detail, a roar erupted from deeper into the contest hall. He flinched a little when he heard the excited crowd cheering for the coordinators putting their all into each display, barely quieting down in time for the announcer to read off the scores given by each judge. There was something in it tugging at him, tempting him to look back for even a moment. But he ignored that call. "...Perhaps this isn't the best place to talk shop. Why don't we go find somewhere to eat, while everything's still open? It'd be quieter."

Rampaging Rayquaza aside, it was exciting to hear that the egg might be close to hatching. "Well if I'm not around for some reason when it hatches, you have to send me a picture so that I can find out what it is. Otherwise I'll die of suspense!" She was being a bit over-dramatic, but it really did bother her when she was left out of secrets, the latest rumors, and so on.
Leon's interest in trying contests made Isis happy. Sharing her favorite interests with other people and gushing really made the stress of her job worthwhile. Unfortunately, Isis had never really taken to the stage herself, so her advice still had a limit to it's usefulness. She really aught to try a contest or two herself, but she was somewhat shy of the spotlight. Having the attention of hundreds on her was a little overwhelming, especially when she didn't feel very.... Well, she didn't feel like she was anything special, to put it mildly. She was all for encouraging and advising other people though, and laughed off Leon's grumbling as he insisted that she not compare him to Austin. "Maybe you can see him as a rival then? In contests, of course." She certainly wasn't looking to make this love triangle a square. Besides, it seemed like Austin had someone he liked. Not that he told Isis, but she was fairly certain she wasn't his secret crush. Or at least, she really hoped not....
As they stepped into the contest hall, they found Zero who welcomed them to Lilycove. Or rather, welcomed Isis back, and welcomed Leon to the city for the first time. "Really? Oh wow. There's so much to show you! I can take you to Coordinator Culture's HQ and introduce you to some of my coworkers, we can go shopping, and the beach is right here at the edge of the city like Olivine, so you'll feel right at home!" Isis was pretty excited. She needed to track down Natasha and see if she was in office so that she could get Austin's latest performance and write an article to talk him up, as well as turn in her interview and pictures at Coco Island. Not to mention Liz was probably dying to see her.
Zero agreed to teach Leon what he knew, but Leon seemed insistent on keeping Isis close. "What??? I mean, I'm fine being back there pre-show, but you can't seriously expect me to watch from behind the scenes! I won't be able to take good pictures from backstage...." She pouted. "It's not like we're gonna start making out or anything..." She grumbled under her breath.
Zero seemed to recognize Austin's name as the person she had to interview at Coco island. "Yeah. He's been an up and coming coordinator. I'd love to borrow some of your old tapes to show him and Leon. We'll have to go rummaging around Veilstone for them at some point. How are Machina and Andreas doing?" Isis asked curiously.
Zero then suggested they talk shop over some food. Maybe that would improve Leon's mood too. People were always grumpier when they were hungry. ”Yeah, good idea. I'm starving~" Isis agreed.
Meanwhile, Atona seemed to turn a light shade of pink beneath his grey fur, as he read Fynx's next text. Thankfully the three trainers seemed too preoccupied with their own discussion to notice, and for once Atona was thankful. ✿ ❀

Which was good, because he didn't want to press further on the awkward feelings of pointless jealousy. He remained quiet on the issue, grateful when Zero suggested that they talk more about this coordinating business over some food. "Right. Yeah... food sounds good." Leon accepted the opportunity to avoid any issues that had been stirred up with him. Ren seemed disappointed that it seemed they were leaving the contest hall. The ninetales had been sitting and waiting expectantly as if he were going to be participating. Kai, however, at the mention of food, grunted and started to lead the way out. "So... uh, know any good places then?" he asked as he followed them out. If he wasn't performing, then... well, it did feel a bit odd to still be wearing the formal clothes. He allowed himself to loosen his tie, unbuttoning the topmost button of the shirt under his coat.

The silver-haired trainer tried not to drag out the topic of Leon's jealousy, though he couldn't help but narrow his gaze at Isis' mumblings in protest. She was hardly helping. Fortunately the discussion was quickly steered back to contests themselves, or rather a particular contestant, which brought the blonde back to their friends in Veilstone. "Good, last I checked," he reported. "I haven't talked to them much since I ran into Andreas back in Lumiose though."
Unfortunately, the allure tugging at Zero through the threshold continued to persist, hoping to coax him in despite having regained his bearings. He couldn't think straight in front of that; so a bit of food was in order, he figured. And everyone seemed enthused by the prospect, none more than the azure alligator that couldn't get out of the contest hall fast enough. The young man couldn't help but laugh at the sight, following Kai out the door as Leon prompted for a destination.
"Well, as interested as I am in seeing where Kai would lead us, I know a few places." He took a moment to think before deciding on a place, taking them down Lilycove's streets and well away from the loving cheers of the contest hall. A few minute's walk took them to a small, cozy little restaurant, a mixture of pizzeria and general bakery. "How's this? It's a little small, but it's good people and good food. We probably missed the dinner crowd by this hour."

✿ ❀ Isis paled a little to hear that Zero had run into Andreas recently. Alone. Without Machina. "O-oh...? And... How did that go...?" Isis knew that Andreas had a penchant to exert her power and dominance without Machina there. Even then, sometimes it seemed Machina couldn't do anything to stop her. Zero seemed fine though. "She actually texted me recently, mentioning that you had gotten your eighth badge and suggesting we celebrate~ Congrats on that, by the way! Was that why she met you in Lumiose?"
Though Isis was excited to learn some coordinating advice from the master himself, Zero suggested they find a place to eat since it'd be quieter. Not to mention, Isis only realized how hungry she was when Zero mentioned the idea of food. Even Leon in his strangely (in Isis' opinion) grumpy mood couldn't say no to that, asking if Zero knew any good places. Amusingly, Kai was already out the door, likely following his nose in the pursuit of any food he could get his claws on. Isis giggled along with Zero at the gator's behavior and followed everyone out of the hall. "Always trust a gator's nose." Isis nodded sagely when Zero joked about being tempted to follow Kai. However, the white haired male had other, more direct suggestions, such as a local Italian pizzeria and bakery.
The smell walking in was especially mouth watering, with the aroma of freshly baked bread and spices. "Mmm~ Tony's is great. You have good taste. The gals from CC and I came here a lot for Friday night pizza after work." Isis' eyes shone with nostalgia from the memories. "Yeah, coming at odd hours is the best because then you get things fresh out of the oven. I mean, you get that normally, but since there's no crowd it's like... Fresher I guess? I dunno." Seeing as they weren't going to stay at the contest hall, Leon had to return Ren, who was being pretty stubborn about wanting to stay. He'd have to make it up to the Ninetales later, but now wasn't the best time to jump into coordinating. Especially since it was apparent there were parts of it that he was unaware of.
Kai was the first to start leading the way out and away from the contest hall, eager to eat once food was mentioned. The entire group found it amusing, though the gator certainly didn't know the area as well as Isis or Zero. "Yeah, but I have a feeling he'd be just as likely to lead the way to a dumpster." Leon chuckled, watching as the big blue reptile sniffed the air, but stayed relatively close to the group.
It didn't take them too long before finding a local Italian pizzeria and bakery. "It certainly smells good. You can never really go wrong with pizza." the lifeguard commented, following the two to a corner booth, where Isis sat down between the two guys. Kai sat on the floor at the end of the booth, looking expectantly over at the trainers as they looked over the menu. "Is this place okay with having pokemon out? Wouldn't want to cause any trouble, heh..." Leon asked, reaching over to pat Kai's neck. If it wasn't allowed, he'd give in and return Kai to his ball. The gator can get fed later at the pokemon center. Besides, pizza probably wasn't the best idea to feed Kai.

Reese and company departed the train station quietly. Despite having an ample amount of time to plan his next course of action. Reese just couldn’t shake the discomfort his little romp to the dream world had caused; trying to reason it out just made him more and more agitated. It’d been far too real for him to just shrug off as just a moment of childish weakness.
He hated it.
His pokemon didn't miss the tension he was radiating as he continued to mull over the dreams instead of the now. Jaxston tossed a side-eye from time to time, strolling a good foot back from his trainer. Ginger gave her own looks from time to time, keeping a steady pace. Only Quixote was oblivious, happily toddling back and forth across the road as they walked, taking in the new sights, and shoving his face in every bush or flower patch they crossed. It was a very pretty place to the Axew.
'So fu- where am I?' Reese snarled to himself. He was here to mess up a contest, right? So why was he so busy worrying about dreams and dead people? Now was the time to focus on a plan. How would he do it? Were there even contests going on right now? The town was on the quiet side right now. Maybe he was too late?
The best way to find out was to check. Meandering over, he found a town map and looked. It’d been a while since he’d visited Lilycove and all and he certainly wasn’t the type to commit the location of the contest hall to memory. It wasn’t hard; he scooped Quixote up to assure the pokemon didn’t run off and gave a jerk of his head for the other two to follow.
It’d been enough years and yet the hall had hardly changed. Still a massive testimony to people who thought parading pokemon around like beauty pageant pawns with a strong scent of perfumes that made his features twist in disgust.
He hated it.
Reese stepped through the doors, casually glancing around. There were only a few people in the place and by the sound of it, nothing was going on. So, he was too late? He huffed. Well, there would always be a contest happening, he just needed to find a time. Fortunately, the place made it easy to know when the next prima donnas would take to the stage with an electronic bulletin board.
There was another set in an hour, a 'cool' contest that would probably be anything but. As he mulled over whether such a small fry competition was worth his time, the young man couldn’t help but overhear a nearby conversation between two trainers. Something about… a hunt? Stars… wishing stars? What was that? His eyes remained on the board, but his focus shifted to eavesdropping to the convo between the two young women.
"… Yeah, they call them wishing stars! They’re a big phenomenon in Galar."
"Really? What, is it just space rocks?"
"No, no! These are special. They say if you gather enough in one place, something amazing could happen!"
"Like what? A wish?"
"I don’t know! But it’s interesting right? I might investigate it… I could use a wish!"
Huh. Wishing stars? That sounded stupid. But also… interesting. Reese huffed, turning away from the board, heading out from the hall. He wasn’t going to waste time lingering there for the next hour. Instead, he made for the pokemon center for a bite to eat and take stock of what tools he had for wrecking a contest.
... And maybe, see if there was some more information on this wishing star business.

"I did." Vince smiled proudly at his retort. There was no way she didn't see that coming, and yet Olivia had walked into that one so easily. She must have been distracted. He couldn't imagine why. Nope, not a clue. "Besides, I'm pretty sure the ghosts get free reign over who they haunt and how long." He added.
What he wasn't expecting was her sheepishly giddy reaction to his heartfelt confession. It threw him off, but strangely enough her flippancy, while a little frustrating, also helped make the situation feel... Lighter. He had unconsciously been so tense after talking things over. The moment Olivia started laughing, it flustered him but also helped him relax. She had a way of making everything feel less heavy on his heart. Arceus knew he needed to lighten up more and Olivia did it so easily. It was one of the many things he loved about her. He knew she wasn't as naive as she acted, and yet she still faced the world with a smile on her face.
He would do so much to protect that smile.
Vince simply nodded in agreement as Olivia summarized his thoughts on writing poems. She had the right idea it seemed. Still... He would consider her suggestion. He knew part of his problem was that he let things build up until he felt like he was going to explode. Even if they weren't public, maybe he could write down his feelings on paper, just to help him vent everything he was feeling and thinking.
The walk to get some dessert helped them re-establish a little sense of normalcy. Or, rather, he tried. The moment Vince tried to encourage Olivia to pick out whatever she wanted, she subtly teased him for his choice of words. At first, she just laughed, but when she repeated it a second time, he couldn't help feeling a little stupid. "Is that not the idiom?" He asked, probably getting more concerned about this than he needed to. Thankfully, by the time their desserts arrived, the topic shifted to their travel plans. Olivia agreed to get in one last stop to Sky Pillar before they returned to Kalos for their next gym battle. "I know..." Vince agreed with a sheepish chuckle. It had been too long since their last badge. They were probably prepared enough for the next one, but they seemed to keep getting pulled off course. That was probably his fault.
Finishing up and returning to camp, the two trainers tended to some new pokemon before turning in for the night. Vince smiled a little as Olivia reciprocated his sentiments. And yet... He couldn't say if there would be another time to camp like this. As they tried to fall asleep, Vince couldn't help but play his conversation with Ducky over and over in his mind. As soon as we get our next badge in Kalos, I'm leaving her. At the time, he had been so resolved to this solution, and the goal of getting their third badge seemed like a much more distant and lofty goal. Now? It felt like they were quickly approaching that moment. Maybe that was why he wanted to draw this time out, desperately find other things for them to do. He didn't want to hold himself to that promise. He didn't want to leave Olivia. But... It was for the best... Wasn't it?
That was why he couldn't allow himself to start a relationship that he knew would be short lived. Vince glanced over at Olivia's sleeping bag, the fires of their camp dying down to mere glowing embers. She was probably fast asleep now. Vince, as tired as he was, couldn't seem to fall asleep. He was afraid that if he closed his eyes, he would wake up and Olivia would be gone. Maybe because he knew that eventually, that would have to be the case. So for now, maybe he could just... Watch over her.
Little did Vince know that Yue was awake. She wouldn't break her word and pry, but she could still feel his overwhelming emotions, hear his loud surface thoughts, worries, concerns. She wanted to badly to talk to him, but... She knew that wouldn't go over well. So instead, she slowly eased his mind to sleep. If he was going to Sky Pillar tomorrow, he needed to sleep and think clearly just in case he was there.

The next morning, Vince woke up, surprised that he had managed to fall asleep at all, but he was grateful for the rest and the fact that, unlike his fears had worried about, Olivia was still sound asleep in the sleeping bag across from his. Once they had packed up, the two made their way back to Lilycove. ”From here, we could use our pokemon to surf to Mossdeep, take a break, and then continue the journey to Sky Pillar.” Vince explained, pointing out the path on his Xtransceiver map as per Yue's directions. ”But... You know. We don't have to make a mad dash there. We could always see what Mossdeep has to offer. I hear there's a space station there. Or the Cave of Origin in Sootopolis is supposed to have a lot of history....” He was grasping at straws, drawing this trip out even though he knew he'd already pushed it farther than he should. They really needed to wrap things up here and start heading back to Kalos before their pokemon grew disobedient. And yet... He couldn't help himself.
”Yue said that there were dangerous pokemon at Sky Pillar. As long as we don't disturb them, I think it should be fine, but... I'm admittedly a little nervous. I certainly don't want to put you in danger.” He explained, though that wasn't his real reason for his nerves. ”I know it'd probably be smarter to get a few more badges first, but... We've already come so far. Might as well use the time we have here while we're here, right?” He suggested. "What's the rush? You can always come back later. Sky Pillar isn't going anywhere." Yue chuckled, trying a little too hard to act casual. However, given how flighty she was on the topic before, if Vince didn't know any better, he could have sworn Yue didn't want them going to Sky Pillar. Not only that, but she was urging them back to Kalos, which he absolutely didn't want. He squinted at the strange psychic. "It just... Takes so long to travel. And we're right here...." He said tensely.
What are you doing? Vince asked in his mind. I'm just making suggestions to the most logical route. What are you doing? Yue retorted. Well stop. You've been acting strange ever since I brought up Sky Pillar and I don't like it, so either tell me what's wrong or cut it out. Vince snapped. Yue hesitated and backed down. He was right. She needed to stop trying to meddle. This confrontation needed to happen, as much as she dreaded it.
With that, Vince turned his attention back to Olivia. "If we go to Mossdeep, we could use our pokemon to surf, or we could probably find a boat. But from Mossdeep to Sky Pillar, we'll probably need to use our pokemon. What do you think?" He asked curiously.

Why was it that the pokemon center was always the epicenter of information? Reese had to wonder what would happen if they all just closed one day; what would trainers do? Learn how to provide medical assistance on their own? Talk to one another for information? Cry?
It was a weird thought, but he didn’t care. So long as he could continue to take advantage of them like any other plebe, he was fine. It just so happened that there was a wealth of information on the ‘wishing star’ situation he’d overheard. It was much the same, but with a twist. Apparently, people were actively looking for folks to collect the things for prizes? He wasn’t one for work, but this sounded up his alley.
Snatching a pamphlet that doubled as a map, Reese looked it over. This thing would take him all over the world, across every region to places he’d never even heard of. That’d be a bit of traveling and… ugh, he couldn’t stand the thought of being on train after train for something like this. But maybe there was something else.
It took him about half an hour of snooping and listening before Reese found his golden ticket. He walked from the pokemon center, flipping the snatched flying pager in the air and catching it. Its trainer wouldn’t miss it. Much. Or at least when he did, Reese intended to be miles away. Slamming the button to call his flight, he eyed the map again. He supposed the best place to start was right there in Hoenn. He knew the places here at least.
Much as he wasn’t a scavenger, the idea that this might give him the time he needed to think about his course of actions in the contest field. His gaze shifted to his pokemon, snatching up Quixote once more (why had he not returned them to their pokeballs was anyone’s guess) as he made for the outskirts of town. One of the spots was Shoal Cave, an easy walk. He didn’t want to be using the pager just yet, after all there was just a little bit of tinkering that needed to be done before that…

Morning aches and residue sleepiness faded away by the time they arrived in Lilycove, and Olivia looked about the port city with fresh eyes, and boundless energy; though the conversation from last night weighed in the back of her mind, it was far too nice of a day to dwell on it, so the back of her mind it would stay. Leaning her head in Vince's direction, the pinkette looked down at his Xtransceiver as he charted out a path for them. "Mm." She hummed thoughtfully, careful to keep her eyes on map. "You're right, but the opposite is also true: we don't need to rush to visit everything, Hoenn isn't going anywhere. In fact, if we just head straight to Sky Pillar, we can make a list of places to visit next time we vacation here." There was also the fact that she needed to return to Kalos sooner, rather than later.
Her suggestion made, Olivia turned her attention back to the city. In the early morning only a few people filled the streets, and from where she stood she could just barely make out the sound of the ocean, along with the cries of Wingulls; it was serene. She hip-checked Vince with a snort, before pulling ahead and taking the lead. "You're worried about putting me in danger? What about you? Or your pokemon?" Turning herself around so that she could walk backwards, Olivia pointed the muzzle of her finger gun directly at his chest. "Haven't I told you before? I can take care of myself," she reminded, putting away her 'gun'. She agreed though, it would have been smarter to visit when they had a few more badges under their belts, and their pokemon were stronger, but they'd be cautious. But, at the same time... Thoughts taking a backseat, Olivia eyed both Vince and Yue with an eyebrow quirked. "It's our last place on the list before we head back; in this case, we're going big and going home," she joked. "Besides, we'll make sure to be careful, right Vince? Remain vigilant, stay away from areas that wild pokemon would usually be around in. All that good stuff."
Even with the potential danger, she was still excited to go; a place like Sky Pillar sounded like photographic goldmine. Though, the notion that this would be their last big destination, before they had to have a discussion on inevitable departure plans, from Hoenn and each other, had to take place wasn't lost on her either. "Let's take a boat," Olivia suggested, getting out of her head just in time to hear Vince's question. "We'll be able to sit and relax. Plus, we don't want to tire our pokemon out with multiple trips." Plus, there'd most likely be food to they could buy aboard, even if they were just snacks, and they hadn't eaten breakfast yet.
