PERSONALITY & BACKGROUND
~Personality~
Samira is somewhat adventuresome, enjoying climbing and exploring, fond of wordplay and riddles, witty, mysterious, charming. She is mostly self-confident, but too prideful to let anyone see her get upset or cry over jibes or taunts, a never let them see you cry type type of gal. You know something has cut her to the quick if she lets anyone see her cry. Intelligent, studious with a fondness for researching subjects that interest her for however long a particular subject binge lasts, regardless of whether or not it is tied to actual schoolwork. She has some things that she keeps guarded, be it precious items or secrets, and will be evasive or defensive if those things are pressed after. Sami does not, will not, can not abide being around aggressive or overtly mean people. They frankly make her really very anxious. If someone were to start acting up, you can bet she'd be out of there, either by herself or hauling off whatever friend(s) she has with her at the time!
~Background~
Samira's parents were both avid historians and field researchers. They met and fell in love on assignment, their methods and attitudes complimenting and balancing each other. The two became partners through work before officially becoming romantic partners. As their relationship developed, talk and thought eventually turned to starting a family. The way the timing the baby fever reached a fever pitch at the beginning of October. They knew the risks, but they wanted nothing more than to have a child of their own. The two of them imbued a single stone together and waited eagerly for the stone to be ready to be awakened. When the time came, the two touched the stone to wake the child within. The result was Samira. They loved her in an instant, relieved that none of her mutations were fatal. Three eyes? They worked perfectly fine and they were beautiful! Overly long tail? Nothing they couldn't handle!
Her folks were given some time off to raise their child for a time. What a wonderful time it was! They often told her of their more memorable cases and adventures. Their tales and passion enraptured her. Before too long however, her parents were called to return to work. Being cache kids, neither of them had family to leave her with. While they both strongly considered sending Samira to the Academy, a colleague of theirs told them of a small, private boarding school that they might consider for their little girl, having a couple of kids of their own in this school. After some debate, they agreed to give it a go. After letting their daughter know of what was to happen, they had a hugely memorable day before bringing her to this private boarding school. Sami, while kind of excited at the prospect of going to school, it wasn't long before a couple of the other students began to pick at her about her mutations. She only got to attend classes for a month and a half before she was called out of class one morning. News had reached the school. There had been a terrible accident while her parents traveled, resulting in both of their deaths. Suddenly Samira was alone in the world. She shut down, not wanting to cry in front of the head of the school and the secretary. When asked if she wanted to go back to class, she had simply nodded and slid to stand on the floor. She slowly shuffled back to class, paying no mind to any of the looks she was getting. One of her tormentors was standing at the door, letting a couple of other people in. Samira's sedate pace and obviously distracted state apparently seemed like an ideal time to 'hassle' her. Her classmate slammed the door, possibly in the hope just to scare her to attention, but the door slammed on her tail as well! Sami howled in pain and in what seemed like quite a whirlwind of activity, the girl soon found herself in the nearby hospital. Her tail was broken, but they were able to fix it, without any complication. She was kept there overnight to make sure everything was alright. She broke down that night, when she was alone in that crisp, clean room. It was all just too, too much! Too trying of a day, too much pain to try to wrap her head around. She cried herself into fitful, dreamless sleep.
The little private school, without having family to send her to and without having parents or guardians to pay the tuition to keep her in school and to distance her from her tormentors, got in touch with the Academy to see about transferring her to their campus. And so, when cleared, she was sent to Asphodel Gardens to pick up her education there, her few meager possessions in tow. The only things she was walking away from the tiny private school was a very subtle knot in her tail that one could feel when they ran their hand along her tail in a certain place and her new status as an Academy orphan. Still, she had her plush that her parents gave her, a very cherished picture of the three of them together, a few clothes from home. While she still is dealing with the loss of her parents, the prospect of learning and growing in the same place they did when they were young. Samira likes to imagine where her parents might have enjoyed studying, what their favorite classes were. She is looking forward to forging her own path, pursuing her passions as her parents did.
