Bad Night

Nightmares seemed to be the best way to wake him up from where he was normally waiting within Tera's mind. The nightmares were the ones that he'd lived through after all, things that Tera had been lucky enough to avoid because of the protect that Terasu offered to him back during the hell they'd lived in while enslaved in Oba. Dreams or reality he always seemed to do whatever was needed to keep Tera away from it all, even if that made Terasu into a bit of a sacrifice of sorts. It was necessary though, he was stronger then Tera was, he always had been. The boy was a weakling... and better that Terasu took the brunt of it, to keep him from being damaged in the same manner as some people had been. Better that he was left bitter and angry if it meant that Tera was left... well, as he was, naive and stupid, but happy for the most part.

Jerking forth from the nightmares that held him in their thrall for what felt like an eternity Terasu found himself in command to Tera's form, looking around the room, gasping for a breath of air. He felt smothered, as though the darkness of the moonless night was crushing him, making him unable to breath, to think, to do anything but to stare at the far wall of the room he was in. After a moment he gave a hissing sound, lifting his hands up to clutch them against his head, "Damn nightmares... and damn Tera... always leaving me to deal with everything that you find remotely uncomfortable. You think I want all of this? Do you know how much I hate you at times?" Sure, it was his job of sorts to protect him, something he wanted to do, but it didn't mean that he wouldn't complain about it constantly when he was alone. He could complain and suffer only when he was by himself, not wanting ayone to see him in such a sorry state.

Pushing himself up to his feet he moved toward the door to his room, shoving it open, and headed out of the room, down the stairs, and outside into the cool night air. It was little easier to breath out here even if he was forced to gulp in air at first to ease the ache in his lungs. He looked around for a moment, then gritted his teeth, "Bah... this is awful... I hate this feeling that comes with waking from such dreams." He muttered as he sat down on the porch, rumbling his temples. His head was aching, feeling as though it were being crushed under a boot... a sensation that Terasu actually knew from past experience.

Giving pause he looked down at his hands, then sighed, "Alright... I know that this body knows magic... how do I access it? Healing... I need to heal myself... to get rid of this damn migraine." He had no idea how to go about even starting though. He hadn't really care about learning such things, finding the healing spells to be a waste of time. Especially given that it wasn't as though Tera would even be able to use them to protect the person he was learning them for. Kyruie... he was getting married, he wasn't going to be around any longer, and they would be... alone. It was something that Terasu had thought about before, all that had mattered was keeping Tera safe. Damn Kyruie though, the pain in his backside that the man was, had all but cursed Terasu by giving him a name. Now he... wanted things for himself, to experience things for himself, and strangely he found that he also wanted... Kyruie.

A thought that the 'darker' part of Tera tried to shake off. No, no! He didn't want Kyruie! He wanted nothing to do with that man! Why would he? He was getting married after all... there really was no point in wanting for something that was beyond his reach. He wasn't a child after all, in fact he'd never had a chance to be one, so why act like one now? No, what he had to do now was shove those stupid thoughts aside, thoughts he'd of mocked Tera for having, and instead try to get some of his stupid magic to work. Giving a hiss he demanded, "Work... you worthless magic... just do what you're supposed to do and help me!" There was a flickering of power around him but instead of any sort of healing power there was instead a crackling of electricity around Terasu before a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, leaving it smoldering. He turned to glance at it, teeth gritted, "That... isn't helping my head..."

Rubbing his temples once more he leaned against the side of the house next to the still open door, dragging in a breath, "This is... such a pain... stupid magic, it's worthless..." He hadn't bothered with any of the lessons, hadn't read any of the books, the spells were very unlikely to come naturally to one like him, but it didn't mean wasn't allowed to be angry at the magic. Given that it was fairly impossible to be angry at a force of nature like magic he let it go, instead attempting a second time to grasp at the magic around him. It felt a bit like grasping at straws though... and instead of healing, this time it was a flash of fire that sprung up on that same poor tree. The tree wasn't having a very good night, but neither was Terasu, but strangely the destruction of the tree was making it feel better. It wasn't on purpose, but it was... cathartic nevertheless.

Actually, now that he was thinking about it, it did seem to be helping a little taking his pain out on that tree. A shame that he wasn't able to do it on purpose. Instead it seemed to only happen when he tried to force a different sort of magic. He wondered idly if he should be insulted by the fact that the 'good' sorts of magic didn't want to work for him. Things like healing seemed to be out of his grasp, but destructive things like lightning and fire seemed to be working well... it made sense he supposed, not as though he was the 'good' guy among the two of them.

"I thought I felt a strange power flickering through in the air, and here I find you." Came a voice that was familiar to Terasu even though he hadn't worked with her all that much. Tera's teacher, the older Matorian woman. She came to stand before Terasu, hands resting on her hips, starring for a long moment. She nodded and said, "It really is something interesting, isn't it? The fact that you can do what he cannot." Tera couldn't seem to grasp the more dangerous spells, sticking to healing and supportive magic, and a couple elemental spells. This entity though, he was able to use electricity and fire innately, making him as interesting as her other student.

Giving him a smile the woman said, "Come along, dear. You needn't wake the entire neighborhood with your antics. How about you come with me to my place, we can talk, and I can see about that headache of yours." An invitation that Terasu was only too happy to take her up on. Not only would she help him to take care of his headache but it would also get him out of the house. Not as though he wanted to stay here forever after all. Breaks from Tera's parents, the father especially, was always welcome.

A Strange Visitor

Hiss? It was a sound that Tera didn't recognize and had him looking around the area that he was sitting in. He was still at his teacher's house, after a lesson that had spanned from morning until evening, and he was exhausted. He'd been ready to just lay there in the grassy garden and sleep when he'd heard that hiss and then it was as though he was completely awake again, "Hello?" He called out, wondering what the hiss had been. Some sort of animal, perhaps? Pushing up to his feet, one magical tome clutched to his chest, he started to look around the area, "Is someone there?" What was it? A perzi, perhaps? He knew that they were known to hiss... but he'd never heard one hiss out such a long, drawn out hiss before. Those hisses tended to be a quick sound, one that was just meant to warn others not to mess with them or get in their way... but this was a different hiss. It didn't really even sound as though it was threatening or angry, as though the one making the sound was just... talkative?

"Where are you? Do you want to show yourself?" He called out, something that had the voice in his head giving a sound like a sigh, warning him that he shouldn't be playing with stray animals. He could get killed by the thing... so why would want to go and play with it?! A comment that Tera knew was a smart one but it didn't stop him from seeking out the hissing entity. As though the thing knew that Tera was looking for it there was a moment of silence before there was the sound of plants shifting nearby, drawing the attention of Tera toward the nearby patch of sweet smelling flowers.

Hurrying over toward the sound he leaned over to look into the flowers to try to find whatever it was that was making all the noise. It took a moment before he was able to spot the creature that was hiding out in the flowers. It was nearly as brightly colored as the flowers themselves, which had caused him to nearly miss the beast, and he might have were it not for the fact that it had lifted its head up. Tera's eyes met those of the serpent before him before he gave a bit of a smile, "Hello there." He said, giving a smile as he drew back a little bit so as not to be within striking range, "You're a rather beautiful beast, aren't you? Not something from around here either... what are you?" He asked in a curious manner.

The serpent gave a hiss, as though answering. It was something that made Tera smile just a bit, "I see. Hmm... I've never seen anything like you before." Which really wasn't saying all that much, was it? He really didn't get out all that much, not able to sneak out as much as he would like of late. It was as though his mother was getting better at keeping an eye on him, as though she somehow knew about his desire to move out. He wondered if it were due to all of his sneaking out or if it was because of his father? The man had never made it a secret that he didn't want him around and Tera wanted nothing more then to make the man happy by just leaving the house. His mother wouldn't be happy with him vanishing, would she? These days the only place that he was allow to go was to his teacher's house to work on his training, something he knew was due to his father's influence. The man wanted him out of the house after all.

Shifting so that he was sitting down in front of the serpent that was watching him he gave a smile, "You're really pretty, huh? Sparkly like the jewelry that the rich women in Oba wore." He'd seen a lot of them when he was younger and he had a feeling that those sorts of women would likely be a fan of this creature, wanting to wear one draped around their necks like so much living jewelry. Giving a little wiggle he said, "I want to wear you like a necklace!" A comment that had the voice in the back of his mind yelling at him about how stupid an idea that was, that the serpent was going to bite his head off if he tried to do something so stupid!

The yelling in the back of his mind was enough to actually cause a bit of a headache, making Tera lift a hand to rub at his temples, "Ow... ow..." He squeaked out before he set to casting a low level healing spell on himself to help to ease the headache. It was something that had the voice growling now. So you can do that? Why can't I manage those damn spells? The voice was quite demanding and displeased, not seeming as though it were at all pleased with the fact that Tera could conjure healing magics as though they were nothing but he couldn't. He could only call upon the most violent of magics, which was grating. The headache caused by the yelling in his head subsided and he felt a bit better. Once more able to concentrate he turned his attention to the serpent once more.

"Sorry about that... I get headaches from time to time..." He murmured to the beast. It was a bit of an bother, having to deal with the headaches on top of the black outs, and various other issues that he had. Still, those things aside, and the loss of Kyruie aside as well, he couldn't say he was that bad off. How little he knew the voice in his head muttered. Something that caused Tera to give momentary pause before turning his attention back to the serpent once more.

The creature was on the move once more, though not all that far from Tera. Instead it was seemingly slithering circles around him now, watching him, seemingly learning about him. The creature moved to coil up beside Tera, hissing, the end of his tail rattling a bit. It seemed at a glance that the creature was used to people. Was it someone's pet, perhaps? Was it lost? Poor thing... laying back in the grass, using his magical tome as a pillow he looked over at serpent, giving it a smile, "You can stay with me for a while if you like. At least until your person comes back."

Stupid Tournament!

Tera had sort of buried himself in his magical studies, wanting nothing more then to lose himself for a while. He wanted to work on getting better with his healing magic and trying to get over the strange block that he had when it came to what his teacher referred to as the more 'wild' elements. While he was getting better with his healing powers the others still seemed to elude him. He couldn't quite wrap his mind around it but his teacher told him that he shouldn't stress over it. Even as she said those words though he felt as though he were missing something crucial, as if she knew something that he didn't, something that she didn't want to tell him. He couldn't help but to think for a moment on something that he didn't want to think about, something that instead he did his best to ignore, the fact that he was starting to really consider that there was something... someone... within his mind that wasn't him.

A thought that he shoved aside, not wanting to think about it, instead turning his attention to his book, one hand reaching over to pet the serpent that was coiled up next to him. The creature, a female keldari that he'd dubbed as 'Breezy' was still there with him and she had been for a few days now. It seemed as though there wasn't anyone looking for the beast per say making him wonder how exactly she'd gotten into his teacher's garden. The beast was something that was supposed to be living on the island of Yael and yet somehow it had ended up in Matori. Had it decided to swim here? Did it sneak aboard a ship that had come from the toxic island? Or was it something else more dire. He'd heard that they were being smuggled off the island and that some of them had escaped, maybe that was what had happened? It would be sad to think that the poor snake might have been stolen away from someone on the toxic island. If that were the case though he'd take good care of her.

As the door to the backyard opened up he turned his head, spotting his teacher and her son Jraie coming out, a paper in his hand. The young swordsman was going over what he had in hand with his mother, but whatever it was that was going on she wasn't having any of it. Tilting his head to one side he listened in to what was going on, trying to hear what they were saying despite them being a little ways from him.

"Jraie, I understand the desire to test yourself but I don't feel that your training has come along far enough for you to risk yourself in a tournament." She was saying. The word tournament caused a curious look to appear on his face. There was a tournament going on? A fighting one from the sounds of it... but it seemed as though Miss Azania didn't feel as though he should go. It wasn't something that held any interested for Tera since he wasn't a swordsman. He'd had the chance for learning such a thing but he'd decided to skip the opportunity the voice in the back of his head mocked him.

Turning back to his magical tome he was about to go back to it when Jraie said in an irritated manner, "The only reason you won't let me got is because the King of Oba is the one that is holding the tournament! Just because our people had issues in the past doesn't mean that I shouldn't be able to test my skills against everyone else that is entering!" Words that caused Tera to go stock still, turning again as the voice in his head seemed to be growling with anger over that claim. It was something that had his vision swimming a bit as Tera got to his feet, stumbling forward as though not even under his own power as he reached out to grab the paper from Jraie, reading it over.

Both Azania and Jriae turned to look at the magic user who was starring at the form in his hands, his entire body shaking violently... and then the paper burst into flames, instantly becoming ash in his hands. Jerking his head up Terasu demanded in an angry tone of voice, "What in the name of Nessat's beard is this?! A tournament? Some sort of celebration being held by those monsters?! As though anyone should trust such a thing! They are likely just planning on gathering everyone up so that they can kill them." He spat out, his overwhelming hatred for the Obans, his master in particular, rising up in him. It was stupid, beyond stupid, that people would actually fall for such a thing... they would actually go to Oba? They would actually trust the king as if his words meant anything. They were all bastards! Why would anyone want to celebrate with them?!

Azania looked to Jraie, then back to Terasu, stepping forward so that she could envelope the raging young man in her arms, dragging his form close to hers and held him even as he struggled against her calming aura, "It's alright now, Terasu... you're no longer in Oba, no longer with your master, and you don't have to go there everyone again. You can stay right here with us, where you're safe."

Terasu set to struggling in her grasp, "Others are going... why would they go? They must know what the Obans really are? As though the offer of glory and money could ever erase the awful things they have done!" He raged, trying to pulled away from her but found himself bumping into Jraie who also wrapped an arm around him, helping to hold him in place. It took an unknown amount of time for the pair to calm the raging Terasu. All of his anger and energy expended he ended up slipping back into Tera's mind once more and Tera ended up in a sleeping, shivering ball in the arms of his teacher while Jriae set to cleaning up the mess that his wildly raging magic had caused to the garden.

Growth Solo: Moving Out

(( Given everything that is going on with him of late Tera has decided that he wants to strike out on his own. He wants to find a home of his own, a path of his own, and new friends. It's a scary prospect starting all over but he feels it's for the best now that his friend is betrothed to get married. ))

Of late Tera had been for the most part either on his own or with his magic teacher, though his mind often seemed to wander to thoughts of Kyruie. He knew that the man was already taken, betrothed to a woman that Tera was sure was a nice one. The two of them were meant to be together and yet at the same time he couldn't get him out of his mind. Any thoughts or outward complaints to himself about the issue were met with a stern resistance from that voice in the back of his head. It always told him that Kyruie was an idiot, that Tera shouldn't worry about him, but the arguments didn't seem as strong of late. It was as though that part him, whatever it was, seemed to not be as violently opposed to being around Kyruie any longer. Not that it mattered.

Looking up from the tome sitting in his lap he looked forward, toward the sea that was stretch out in front of him, and gave a sigh. No matter how much he thought about his friend it really didn't matter, did it? Kyruie was meant for someone else, he would be married to her soon, would have a brood of children with her most likely, and Tera would always be... alone. At least as alone as one could be with such a vocal voice in their head.

Of late he'd started to really realize that the voice was more then just his conscience trying to get him to do various things. No... it wasn't just of late, but for a while now. It was due to the black outs especially. He'd go to sleep one place and wake up in another some distance away. Any time he set out even remotely in the direction of Oba he'd then find himself coming to someone deeper into Matori. Even that gathering that was held in Oba had been denied to him by those black outs. He'd meant to go there, to see what was going on, to learn in detail about the the dangers plaguing the area and yet that wasn't an option. The trip had been denied to him and he was forced back home again.

Add to that the way that his father was always looking at him, as though he were some sort of monster. There was so much stacking up these days between the animosity from his father, the loss of Kyruie, and what felt like the loss of control of his own self. So many things that made Tera feel so far out of control that he might as well be back in Oba under the control of his master. A thought that caused him to suddenly be stricken with a rather painful headache. Lifting his hands up he grasped his head, giving a hiss between his teeth, and set to work casting a healing spell to try to ease the pain. Once the spell started to take hold he muttered, "Sorry... sorry... that was uncalled for..." Muttered words that were followed by the voice in his head muttering that they were 'very uncalled for'.

No... going back wasn't really an option. Not only because such things as the 'relationship' between master and servant had been abolished but because that was foolish. He wasn't meant to back track, he was meant to go forward with his life. He needed to become his own person and he was starting to think that meant being on his own. At least as on his own as possible. Closing his magical tome on fire magic, one of those magics he found impossible to grasp, he set it aside and drew his knees to his chest. After wrapping his arms around them, head resting on his knees, he looked out over the water with a bit of a sigh.

"I should try to forge my own path." He'd taken up healing magic because he'd wanted to be useful to Kyruie, he wanted to help him to feel better where he could, but he was no longer needed. He knew that Kyruie's wife would be the one to take care of him, to make him happy, and that meant that he really needed to find a new path. Not only that but he wanted to get out of here. To no longer live under the roof that belonged to his parents, to escape from his father's dark glare, and to move on. If he got his own place then he could come and go as he wanted, he could visit his teacher on his own time, and otherwise try to find his own place in the world. He had no idea where that place might be but it had exist, right?

Giving a little sigh he shifted his position so that he was sitting cross legged, "I think it's time." He muttered, getting approval from the voice in his head as he set to work packing his tomes back into his bag. He'd go home, get his things pack up, and he'd leave. He was sure that his father would only be too happy to see him go... and then he'd go to talk to his teacher. She might have an idea where he could look for a place. One that was preferably still near enough where he could visit her but far enough away that he wasn't too close to his parents' home. There had to be a place like that.

Once he was moved out he could start work on learning what he wanted to do with himself, with his powers, and maybe he'd... sighing he muttered, "Maybe... I will find someone else..." Someone who wasn't Kyruie. Just the thought of it made his heart hurt and caused even that voice in his head to go completely silent. It hurt so much thinking about it but at the same time it was for the best. As he pushed to his feet, putting slinging his pack over his shoulder he said, "I refuse to be anyone's mistress." A sentiment the voice wholeheartedly agreed with.

With that he moved to gather up Breeze who was coiled up in the sun, letting the keldari drape herself over his shoulders, before he headed for home. Giving her a pat on the head he said, "At least I still have you, right?" She couldn't talk and she wasn't really cuddly, but at least it was better then nothing.
