Deadly Secret

Minerva had an arranged meeting with Marcus by her mother. Through all the hustle and bustle of fixing the city, Marcus was meeting with her so she could hand him the orbs. When her mother had told her she did not believe, wondering why the leader of the Dovaa would seek to see her even if he must have been extremely busy. Her mother had reassured her, even saying that she would accompany her if she wanted it. Minerva had refused, she wanted to prove to everyone that she was strong and while she loved her mother she no longer needed her. Not at her age anyway.

Granted, better to bother Marcus than Drako. Her mother had never spoken ill of the Oblivionite leader, after all Minerva was half Oblivionite and if she so wished it she could go to Souldul. Esmeralda supported her daughter in whatever it was she did, unless it was dangerous but the Peisio knew how to feel out for the dangerous situations thankfully quite well. However, Minerva had sought out other opinions on the leader and all had nothing nice to say about him. So she’d decided it was safer to stick to the Dovaa, they’d been good to her so far.

Sitting outside the large office, Minerva swung her legs under her chair. She’d gotten there right on time, but had waited over an hour so far. People around her hurriedly came in and out of the office and from time to time she would catch a glimpse of the leader. He looked tired, but so did everyone else. Even her mother seemed exhausted and out of life, something Minerva had never seen before. Finally though, the traffic died down and a young woman from the Friani clan came to seek her out. “You can go in now.”

Minerva jumped off her chair and followed the woman inside. The office was a mess, papers and maps sprawled across every surface, books were piled into corners and charts hung limply on the walls. Marcus had his back to her but turned when the door was closed behind her softly.

“Welcome Minerva, I am Marcus.” He offered her a weak smile.

“Thank you for seeing me.”

“I rarely see people alone to give me orbs now a day, not with the Mara attack.”

“I know, I don’t want to be a bother.”

“You’re mother sacrificed a great deal to get me this audience with you. Any idea why?”

“Not a clue sir.” And she really didn’t know why her mother had gone through the trouble.

“I think she loves you very much to have arranged this.” He smiled at her knowingly, as if he was sharing a secret he had with her mother.

“I’ll take the orbs now.” He held out his hand towards her.

Minerva moved and handed him the two Kiandri orbs she’d gotten before retreating back.

“Kiandri suits you.” He said. “Thank you for coming. I apologize we couldn’t speak for very long, many matters need my attention.”

“I understand.” Minerva turned around and walked out. She had a weird feeling something had just happened but she wasn’t sure what.
