Since yesterday had been quite a hit or mis, Esmerlada had decided to return to camp and give Minerva a bit more information on Kiandri dragons. Specifically, the best time to find and easily dispose of them. She couldn`t believe that she was giving out that type of information but Minerva was her daughter, her only one and she could make an exception for her. In any case, they sat around the fire as Esmeralda gave a lecture on the dragons. Minerva was for the most part quiet, listening and soaking up the information she was giving her from what she could see. Good.
They`d decided not to go out again the next day but wait for the cool evening when the Kiandri would be asleep waiting for the warmth of the sun to wake them up. That was the best plan they`d come up with. Hunting dragons at night was maybe a bit trickier and certainly a lot more dangerous but if they did it properly it would be a fruitful night. The next day was spent in the shade simply relaxing and talking and a bit of napping so that they were full of energy for the night.
“Alright mom you ready to get going? The sun is going down.” Her mother nodded and followed next to Minerva as they went hunting. She’d never hunted out in the dark and didn’t have any plans to so sun down had been the best option for them. They quickly made their way to what she called the hunting ground; it was where most of the Kiandri dragons gathered and where she stalked her next prey. He was a medium sized dragon who was starting to get sluggish from the warmth of the sun leaving him. Minerva looked back to her mother with a smile.
Esmeralda nodded and hung back again, she wasn’t going to get involved in this one either. Her eyes instead were on the surrounding area to make sure nothing else would pounce on Minerva as she went for the kill. She didn’t seem to see anything wrong for the time being, but the sun was going down and there were more and more growing shadows so it was hard to tell what was alive and what was inanimate. Something did catch her eye though, but Esme wasn’t sure and she squinted. Her eyes returned briefly on Minerva and then back on the shadow.
Minerva had no eyes for her environment; she made her sweep and hadn’t found anything so she went forth with her attack. She gathered a strike and then threw it towards the dragon. She hit her mark and shook up the dragon that got up and roared in pain. Now she had its attention, she prepared another strike but not before avoiding the lightning bolt headed her way. She rolled and threw her own which missed; Minerva narrowed her eyes and got closer to the dragon. Her next strike she would aim for the heart of the dragon and end this quickly.
As the fight began Esmeralda kept her eyes on her daughter but something in the corner of her eye keep bothering her. The Peiosio Dovaa decided to get closer slowly, that’s when she spotted the danger and broke out into a run gathering to throw at the dragon. It distracted it enough so that it turned on her and Esmeralda froze, staring the Kiandri down. Minerva had downed the dragon and was now turning its attention on the new Kiandri. Good she wouldn’t have to kill it with her own hands. The dragon glanced from one Dovaa to the other unsure now about it’s odds.
Minerva threw one last lightning bolt and hit the dragon square in the chest sending it down. She got closer and threw another one to end the dragon quickly and picked up the orb. She’d seen some movement off the side and she turned to be faced with another Kiandri. Though this one wasn’t too sure it wanted to take them on. It turned around and ran throwing lightening at them to make sure they didn’t follow it. Minerva only looked at it and then went to her mother. “Are you okay?” Her mom didn’t look hurt or upset so that was good.
“I’m fine. Caught that one good and early.” That dragon thought it could have ambushed Minerva but it had been sorely wrong. Esmeralda pat her daughter on the shoulder gently. “You need to be more observant of your surroundings. I won’t always be around to watch your back for you.” Maybe Minerva had fallen into a sense of security because she was there watching her, but still it was a pattern that Esme did not want repeated. “Time to head back to camp.” They were going to be out here for a couple more days at this rate. It wasn’t unpleasant.
