They hadn’t gotten back to camp late, but Esmeralda was tired and had crashed when they’d gotten back to camp. They’d also decided that they were getting up early the next morning to fight a Kiandri early when they were just waking up. Esmeralda had had trouble getting up again that early before the sun had risen in the sky. She was getting old! Maybe she’d have to take it a little easier I they were going to be out really late and then getting up early in the morning. She could always nap later and certainly would it was just hard getting up at that moment.
Minerva handed her some bread and cheese with a bit of water which she slowly got through as they began their walk. Her daughter was bouncy as if she’d slept the whole night without any problems. Esmeralda though yawned and had a hard time keeping up. Maybe she should have simply let Minerva go out hunting by herself that morning, but she’d come here with the purpose of helping her and sleeping wouldn’t do Minnie any good. So she dragged her old Dovaa butt across the sand when if she wanted her eyes to close.
“Alright, I’ve found a Kiandri over there just starting to wake up, why don’t you stay here and get some rest mom?” Esmeralda yawned and Minerva waved her off. She should simply have let her sleep or something. She could hunt on her own anyways, but she did like having her mother around. Minerva stalked forward towards the Kiandri she’d chosen. A few glances told her there might be some other dragons in the area that were still asleep waiting for the sun to come up. She would have to kill this one in a single blow so it didn’t make any noise.
Esmeralda found a rock to lean on and settled herself on the ground. The sun hadn’t come up yet which meant she got to enjoy a few more cool moments. Though she could already feel the rising temperatures it hadn’t reached the point where one was sweating buckets out here in the desert. Once Esmeralda had settled, she closed her eyes. She was certain nothing would happen to Minerva anyway and she was just so sleepy. It didn’t take long for her to actually fall asleep while leaning on the rock. She never saw the Dragon waking up a few meters away from her.
Minerva saw the rising dragon that was aiming for her mother. She hadn’t reached her own Kiandri so Minerva turned around and prepared a strike. How her mother could have fallen asleep so fast was beyond her but she there the strike once she was close enough. She missed but the sound woke up her mother thankfully. Minerva finally reached the Peisio Dovaa and frowned at her. “I can’t believe you fell asleep.” She hissed at her quietly while staring the dragon down. Her mother was suppose to be the veteran here, and now they couldn’t face this dragon because it was much too large.
“We can’t fight this one.” Esmeralda said as she eyed the dragon. They could always distract it and get away. All her senses were awake now since the lightening strike had boom and woken her up in fright. “Okay we’re going to distract it and run. You ready?” Minerva nodded and then both threw a strike next to its head and then ran. The dragon chased them but Esmeralda made sure it got stuck in some mud so it couldn’t follow them any further. They made it back to camp panting and without a kill just as the sun was finally showing it’s face.
“I can’t believe you mom.” Minerva said between breaths. She stood up once she’d caught her breath and stared her mother down. “I’m going to nap.” Minerva stomped away angrily and went back into her own tent and closed it down. She’d been perfectly angled to kill the Kiandri if her mother hadn’t fallen asleep. Sighing, Minerva settled herself in her bedding and closed her eyes. She soon covered them because it was too bright for her to sleep. She heard her mom shuffling and began to feel slightly bad for yelling at her. Maybe they’d both apologize later on.
Esmeralda sighed softly. She had royally messed up and she was going to have to make it up to Minerva. Maybe work with her on her kills and be a little more active. They’d lost two kills in four days and that was not a good ratio. Not in her mind anyway. Which meant Minerva wasn’t getting any stronger and she needed to help her get stronger. Esmeralda went into her tent and settled in bed for a long and much needed nap. Maybe these early mornings and late nights were not the way they ought to try it. maybe she should just let Minerva hunt as she pleased.
