Battle VS Ysali Dragon : in Midnight Thoughts

Grrel is sitting in a small cave on Serenia and listening to her stomach rumble

I wish Kadryn would be less busy, then she could feed me and I wouldn't have to keep running into Ysali's when I go hunting.. Perhaps I should go see if there is a Draekin about who would like to teach me how to fight.. cause I keep losing and I really want more than one win to call my own...

Raids

A dry wind blew across the sandy dunes below Grrel as she flew back to her family-clans home territory. She had enjoyed her training and fun on Serenia, but she needed some more help on controlling her magic and learning how to manipulate it more and better. And so she headed home, flying high in the bright blue sky as she lazed about on the dry winds. Keeping a wary eye out for any dragons, Grrel spotted several small figures fleeing as they carried something large in their arms. At the same moment, Grrel heard the shrill cries of anger and hatred of Drakeins. More importantly, she heard her clan’s voices, all calling out about catching thieves and protecting eggs. Alarmed, Grrel dived down towards the fleeing Magescians. If those were her clans voices than these must be the thieves!

She gathered all her magic into a huge bolt of power and loosed it at the fleeing figures carrying the large objects, figuring that the Kiandri orbs would be protected from lightning and heat because of their own inner magic and hard shells. As her bolt hit dead on and screams of pain loosed themselves form the thieves throats, Grrel screamed out her own call; one of anger and to alert her clan members to her presence and the egg thieves. She continued her dive down to the targets. As she crashed into one of the thieves, she bit down as hard as she could upon the small Oblivioite’s head. Leaving his fallen body, she turned with a vicious growl to his companions. Blood dripping from her fangs, she darted towards a thief who had turned to run away while still carrying an egg. This one was a Dovaa female and she too cried out in pain before Grrel’s sharp fangs ripped her throat out. She would allow no one to steal her clan’s eggs!
At this point more of Grrel’s clan arrived and they too joined in the slaughter. Once the bloodshed was over, the bodies stripped of anything useful and the eggs returned to the nests, Grrel was welcomed back by her family.

“You certainly showed up at a good time! We didn’t expect you to return so soon.” A large golden brown male called out, his single remaining horn dyed red with blood. This was Brassarril, the current Chief and strongest fighter in the clan. And still single, which Grrel’s mother always reminded her when she came to visit.

“I was on my way here to ask the shaman for more training. How did the thieves get so many eggs?” Grrel asked as she fastidiously scoured off the blood from her scales in the hot desert sand. While Bassarril was certainly handsome, Grrel had never considered him as anything other than Chief and a good friend, despite his efforts to court her. She wanted someone a bit more... something. She wasn't quite sure, but she knew he wasn't it. And why would she want to settle down so soon? There was a whole world to explore.

“That would be because they had several adepts along who distracted us as the small ones snuck in and stole the eggs.” A smaller female Drakein, pale yellow with orange stripes crossed by many scars, stalked up and sat possessively near the Chief. Drrilian was Grrel’s least favorite family member, always looking down on her. Grrel was amused to see that the smallest female in the clan had set her eyes on Brassarril, who was notorious for seducing large females, preferably his size.

“They’re also banding together, we’ve never had a group of multiple races attack before.” Bassarril scooted away from Drrilian, apparently he didn’t like her any more than Grrel did, which was not unusual since Drrilian tended to irritate all but the sweetest and most patient of Drakein.

“How odd. But I do know that Kadryn doesn’t see a problem with being around other rac-” Grrel began to say before Drrilian rudely interrupted her.

“Kadryn again! Serious, you need to stop talking about that thing. No one wants to hear about your stupid two-legged toy. I certainly don’t.” She hissed and stood up disgustedly, “I’m off to go help with the cleanup.” She flounced off, calling coyly back at Brassarril, “You look a bit beat up; I’m always willing to making those hurts go away.” She winked at him before vanishing behind the dunes.

“Yeah…About that, no.” He muttered and shuddered at the thought. Making a grossed out face, he looked back at Grrel, “I like hearing about her and her land; it’s interesting and it can give us an insight into possible thieves and what we can expect. Though from what you’ve told us, Kadryn is the least likely to come raiding. ShamanToki should be with the wounded fighters and healing them as best he can.” He quickly rolled in the sand to clean off some of the blood before walking towards the nesting site. He stopped and looked back over his shoulder at Grrel’s snort of amusement. “What?”

“You look ridiculous rolling about in the sand! And why do you not tell Drrilian you’re not interested?” She stood up and followed Brassarril.

“I did! She just tried to flirt and say that she’d grow on me.. yick! Never…..urg.” He shook himself before continuing on, "Have you changed your mind about settling do-."

"No. Brassarril, we've gone over this before. I want to go see more of the world, eat more types of food, meet more people. Besides, you know that I don't feel that way about you.”

"Well, a guy can always hope.." He looked at her dolefully and smirked as she huffed prissily. "Oh well, one of this day’s you’ll be in the mood to settle down.”

“Don’t count on it! I want to become a Drakeinian and...” Grrel and Brassarril chatted and caught up as they slowly walked to the nest areas. She may not have looked at Brassarril as a potential mate, but she did think of him as her closest friend.

[PRP + Battle] Battle VS Firani Dragon With Kadryn: in Playing with Fire

Grrel is sitting in a small cave on Serenia and watching the Spring rain fall as she thinks of her first battle with a Firani Dragon.

I need to train more! We could have won if I'd been stronger. Kadryn certainly could have fought on....I will get stronger! But first I think I will try beating Ayrala's and Kiandri's before I go after a Firani again....

Magic Lessons with Toki

Grrel napped on the ledge outside her mother’s cave, keeping one eye open on the lookout. She’d been home for a month now and was helping her clan fight off the thieves and watch her mother’s egg clutch. Soon she’d have more brothers and sisters to cherish and defend. She heard steps and lifted her head to see who was approaching. She saw the familiar profile of her friend Brassarril.

“Shaman Toki wants to talk to you Grrel, so your mother pestered me into taking you place guarding her eggs.” He had a put upon expression as he sauntered up and lay down next to Grrel. She snorted, as if Brassarril didn’t love guarding nests; since it gave him an excuse to take a nap... but then that’s why she liked nest guarding too…

“Save it for someone who doesn’t know you Brassarril! You love napping on ledges as much as I do!” She stood and shook herself to stretch her muscles.

“Do you know what the shaman wanted to talk to me about?”

“Nah, he didn’t say.” Brassarril grinned up at her and flicked his tail at her,

“Go on! Leave me to my nap! Oh, and don’t tell the short menace where I am! She’s been really annoying lately…” He shifted about until it looked like he was fast asleep... though Grrel knew that he was only pretending, Brassarril never truly slept while guarding, since that would be inviting a thief in. She smirked and sauntered on down to the shaman’s cave. Don’t tell the short menace? As if I’d talk to that irritating Drrilian!

As Grrel entered the cave of the Shaman, she was once again struck by how majestic he was Shaman Toki, though much older than her and blind, still carried himself with confidence and grace. His frills were also impressive and Grrel was jealous of them. She wished she could have such lovely things, but she’d been born to a different line of blood in the clan than him so she had no chance at them.

“Shaman, you asked for me to come?” She asked respectfully. Toki’s head had reared once she’d entered, and his pale sightless eyes had wandered over in her direction.

“Hrm, yes I did. I’ve been thinking ever since the raid about you and your training. You’ve been of clan territory for many moons and tend to come back only sporadically.” He paused, how to say this in a way to make her understand and not get prissy and block his words…. Grrel was such a troublesome child. Curious and free, she tended to be quite lazy as well.

Thinking what Shaman?” Grrel’s tail lashed in anticipation. Was she going to learn more magic? Perhaps something to help her win against those annoying dragons?

Toki sighed. “Thinking that perhaps you need more training and that I am unable to give you it since you won’t stay here and learn. So instead, I will ram as much information into your thick skull before you leave so that hopefully you’ll remember something and be able to teach yourself more later.” He growled. “Since you won't stay where I can make sure you practice and learn, I’ll just have to hope you take something away from this session and don’t die before you come back to learn more.”

Grrel lashed her tail angrily and snorted. “I practice plenty! And I train against dragons too!”
Toki sighed, “Fighting dragons is not practicing. It’s fighting. You must first practice so that in combat you can concentrate and cast your magic without thinking. Do it instinctively. As you are now, you have to pause and think before you cast. And that is why you keep losing. Your small pauses are where they will strike and since you are in the middle of casting a spell you haven't practiced enough, they'll hit and hurt you. ” He stood up and rattled his frills.
“Come Grrel. I’ll show you several spells, then you will practice them till you fall asleep. Then tomorrow you will do the same. I may not be able to keep you practicing out there, but while you are here you will practice!”
Grrel sulkily followed him as Toki stalked from his cave to the casting area. A large sand filled ravine filled with many fallen rocks upon which to practice. She was happy to learn more, but why did Toki always make her feel inadequate and childish?

The rest of the day Grrel found herself relentlessly drilled over and over again in spells she barely knew and sometimes Toki would switch it up and make her practice the spells he’d already taught her earlier.
When she faltered and became tired and depleted of magic, Toki would then show her how to do it, casually casting the spells she struggled with as he moved like lightning about the fallen rocks. His blindness seemed to not slow him down at all, and he always hit his target. Then, while she ate to replenish her strength and magic, Toki came over and demonstrated how to do each one, in what situations she should do what, and what spells to use against what opponents. He was determined that Grrel would be taught enough so that if she only took one thing away from this lesson, it would lead her to all the others as she practiced and experimented on her own. Each of the spells had something in common with the other, and while her mind may not remember, in a tight spot, he was sure her body would and she’d be able to react on instinct to escape of win.

Next time, Toki thought, I’ll talk to her about her hated towards the bondeds. They are not all stolen, but some are saved and other eggs are given freely. She needs to learn more than just magic to survive, she needs to learn to accept others, their differences, and open her mind a bit. As it is, I don’t think she’ll do well when confronted with bondeds that love their Magescian. I just hope she doesn’t try to attack hem all, though knowing her, she probably already has. Toki sighed as he sensed Grrel stagger off into the cool night. She had the ability to be a shaman, but not the mind nor heart of one. Where was he to find his apprentice so that he could pass on his knowledge and duties?

[PRP] Curiosity

Grrel is sitting in a small cave on Serenia and enjoying a Spring Sunset as she thinks back over the days events.

Perhaps I may have become friends with this little girl, but she seems to want to bond.. does she not understand that the bond is slavery? That it steals our children from us and forces them to forever be dumb and restrained? Her mind is an agile one, and she is as full of questions as I am... If only I could get her to understand that the bond is not a good thing, then I could have her as a friend...

That small red headed Orderite is very quiet and respectful. For all the thieves and stupid two leggers out there, I do believe that there are some decent ones that I don't mind living with..

What are they doing?

It was a warm and sunny day in Serenia, and a group of Orderites, young mages and their families from what Grrel could see, had come and set up camp a day walk from Grrel’s cave. Curious as to why they were here and wary that they had come to drive her off, she decided to watch them.

Grrel was out lurking in the forest's deep green shrubbery as she watched a bunch of young orderites gathering up grass and leaves. What were they up to? She knew that Kadryn had some herbs for cooking, but those smelled strongly and tasted good raw... these were just plain old leaves and grass that she walked on every day! They were up to something... they had to be!

So she stalked them, following them through their trip deeper into the forest. How strange that these little ones were out without a guide. While this area was relatively free of Dragons, Grrel had run into some viscous Hastars and knew they were dangerous.... Perhaps these little ones were foolish in their belief that they were invincible; she knew that when she was younger she thought she could take on the whole world! Or maybe.. maybe they were here for a reason and they needed these plants. She'd seen a few look up and around whenever a snap of a branch or a sudden silence happened. They were out here in the wilds.. who knew what could happen to little boys and girls?

Grrel grinned evilly. She knew.. and perhaps she should teach them a lesson in not venturing into the wilds unarmed... A kindness they probably wouldn't appreciate, but at least she wouldn't kill and eat them like the Hastars that lived near here!

She suddenly charged forward into the group, roaring and flaring her wings to create huge gusts of wind and she summoned harmless lightning to lash out and hit near the children. She laughed as they screamed and then fled back towards their camp where the adults were. Disappointed that only one had dropped her basket and left anything behind, Grrel saw that most of it was just regular grass.. though there was this one sprig that seemed different, it held a power in it that she could feel. How odd.... She could have to take this to Shaman Toki and see what he made of it...

One her way back to her cave, she laughed to herself, silly kids! To go unarmed into the wilds and leave the adults to far away to help! Pity it was only plants they had and no metal or gems for Grrel to take. She suddenly stopped as she realized what a stupid thing she’d done. Hopefully no skilled trackers where in that group or they might really try to drive her off! Well, at least she hadn’t hurt the children… if she’d done that they really would hunt her down. But perhaps the adults would think that the kids were telling lies and they’d seen a Hastar and not a Drakein… Hmm, but there was that burn mark from the lightning bolt…
Grrel shrugged, oh well, what was done was done. And if they hunted her down, she’d fight back! She was a shaman in training after all! She could defend herself!
