After the frigid chill of the harsh winter had left Tendaji, it seemed that most were happy to just return to their normal routines, though the normal routine didn’t seem to be what the weather had in mind. It wasn’t long before almost everywhere noticed the way that the winter air had seemed to push precipitation onto the land in its place. Rain flowed seemingly non-stop, reaching all the areas of Tendaji, even frozen Zena saw its share of rain, though the temperatures were still much too cold to support such a thing and rain turned to hail, which froze over the ground. The critters of Tendaji only wanted to seek shelter from their flooded homes and the wet downpour that surrounded them. They found their way into homes, huts, sheds, anywhere that could stay dry - and preferrably warm. 5 Kuona It was in these lonely and cold moments that Alassiel wished she was back home in her tree surrounded by loving family. She dearly missed their closeness and warmth at that moment but knew she could not return until she had fulfilled her dream. However, she did not know how much of this snow, ice, and rain she could continue to endure. The snow and ice had been bad enough, but it had been replaced by a constantly downfall of heavy rain. She could not gather food, could not practice with her trident and worst of all her mismatched housing kept falling apart and she had to keep Raysh fed, dry, and warm all at the same time. And like every morning since Alassiel had gotten stuck in this area because of the weather she awoke with the constant dripping of water droplets no her face coming down from a pin sized hole in her tent. Sighing softly, Alassiel wiped the water from her face and stood up. From the looks of it her tent had bent in a bit and a puddle of water had built up. She was going to have to make this shelter a bit steadier, at least she could get some work done today since it wasn’t currently raining. How long that would last Alassiel did not know but she was going to have to work fast. Exiting her tent, Alassiel checked on Raysh first. He was dry and quietly sleeping. Good. Alassiel gave him some dry grass which awoke him. She left his door open so he could walk around and stretch his legs. She was going to have to clean his little makeshift house. First though, she checked on her supplies. It would do her some good if she went out to scavenge a bit. Raysh had finished his breakfast and was now nibbling on some grass nearby, Alassiel pat him and grabbed her satchel to go hunt for some food. Fish would have been nice, but she would not be able to keep it since she could not dry it out in the sun. Her best bet was to go for edible roots; the water would have gorged them making them perfect to eat. The rain and snow would have stopped anything else from properly growing anwyays. Alassiel spent the better half of the morning digging up here and here. She had also been able to gather some mushrooms that thrived in the wet weather. The roots and mushrooms would dry up nicely back in her tent if she could get a fire going. Though Alassiel doubted she would be able to get one started considering her fire wood stock pile had been finished two days ago. Since the rain there was not much she would be able to do about it now but hope that the rain would clear up long enough for her to gather some wood and shelter it so it could dry. It began to drizzle just past noon; Alassiel had seen the dark cloud looming over head and arrived back at her tent just before it had started raining. Problem was she had not fixed up her tent. Throwing her satchel into the tent, Alassiel went hunting for some rope to help hold up the tent. In the rain she fixed up her tent and checked on Raysh who was sitting on the ground. His little lodge was warm since it was small and he seemed like the best heater for it. Returning to her tent, Alassiel found five Kuona curled up together in her bed. Making a face she settled down next to them to watch them. She could not leave them here, they would eat her food. Alassiel got the brilliant idea and gently picked up two of them in her hands, covered herself and tiptoed over to Raysh’s home. She dropped both of them near him and they curled closer to him seeking warmth. Ally went back and grabbed another pair and did the same to them. Raysh looked at them wondering what they were but didn’t seem to be bothered by their presence, he liked the company. Grabbing the last one, Alassiel made the final trip to Raysh’s makeshift house and gently dropped the last Kuona down. Hopefully they wouldn’t cause too much trouble until the rain settled and she could move them somewhere else. She couldn’t afford them eating Raysh’s food or her own supplies. For now though, they could stay with him.

homecoming
When the forest began to feel familiar, Alassiel let out a breath of relief. Even after all this time away from home, she knew she could never get lost among the trees here. All she could hope for now was that her family was still okay, that`s why she`d returned and she intended to see it through. She didn`t know how her family would take it with her return, perhaps they never expected her to return to begin with. She knew her younger siblings would all be happy to see her, older siblings she didn`t know. Ah well, too late to turn around now.
And then she was staring up at her family tree. Her heart fluttered momentarily before she approached the tree and tied up Raysh, she`d be back with help from her siblings once she`d announced her return. Now she had to climb up, they`d know someone was coming once she was half way up from the sound of branches holding her weight. Alassiel grabbed the first branch and pulled herself up surprised at how she had much less difficulty than before. Traveling and working her arms with the spear had paid out after all that was rather nice.
Soon enough a head popped from the branches and spotted her, a smile grew on her brothers lips.
“It’s Alassiel!!! Alassiel’s returned!” His yelled echoed throughout the tree and soon enough it came alive.
As Alassiel reached the top first platform she was greeted by a sea of faces. Younger siblings gathered around her and older ones smiled from the back, some had had children in her absence, others were visibly bearing children. All of her siblings had grown up but she picked up the youngest in her arms as she was pulled into a hug by one family member and then another. Then her father was dragging him to her and Alassiel couldn’t hold the tears back any longer.
“It’s good to have you home child.” He said softly before releasing her. Alassiel offered him a small smile and turned to face her mother. She had aged, but quite well. She too pulled her into a long hug.
“So happy to have you back home Alassiel.” She whispered softly.
“I’m happy to be home.” Her mother released her. “I have a familiar downstairs who needs attending if anyone wants to fetch my things and bring him up.” A couple of siblings began to race down and then she heard Raysh’s surprised noise.
“Come, we have much to discuss.” Her mother pulled her along up and into the family space they all shared. She was seated, given a bowl of food and drink and then everyone gathered around her. “You left so quickly, barely a word to anyone. The elders told us you’d gone off on your own. Alassiel, why didn’t you tell anyone? You left in the middle of a snow storm!”
“I know, I know. I just couldn’t delay any longer. I apologize, I really do. I had to make my own way into the world and I couldn’t do that staying here.” While her family wasn’t living in Ast, they were far too close to it than she liked. “The snow slowed me down but only briefly before I made it to Sol.” Alassiel had never seen so many shifters in one place; it had been great and amazing to see it after being around Ast so much. It had also been the perfect place to collect a few more items for her journey, things that she had thought she hadn’t a need for but proved valuable out in the wild.
“Then I moved on to Tale. I went to Year and went cross all of Tale to get to Isd. I wanted to go to Matori but also visit Zena and Sauti before I did.” She hadn’t heard of the rumors yet and Alassiel had thought she’d make it to all of the places that she wanted before she returned home. “Tale is pretty, not quite like home but still very pretty and interesting.” There had been plenty to see and do while she’d been there, but she hadn’t lingered there very long, Sauti waited.
“Of course my next stop was Sauti, Dernd to be exact. Didn’t stay there very long, moved on to Iory soon enough before I made the trek to Mez. I ran into some merchants on my way there about the Alkidikes. I just couldn’t continue on, I had to come back and make sure everyone was safe.” Alassiel put her arm around her younger brother and pulled him in. “It was a long way getting back but I made it back and I’m going to be here for a little while.” Until she was sure things had settled down again.
“Well we’re happy to have you back you know that.”
“I know. I just wish I wasn’t returning… Well on such bad news. I ran into some Alkidikes journeying back here. It seems things progressively got worst the closer I got home. Will you be moving?” Her parents sighted.
“We have no choice, need to move and reach a larger Shifter settlement so we aren’t out in the open alone. We’ve been slowly preparing the tree; making sure things are on lock down and such. The top floors have all been cleaned and covered; we should be along in a few days time.”
“Alright well I’m going to be here and I’m going to help as much as I can.” It looked like Alassiel had arrived just in time. She was going to make sure to accelerate the rhythm so they could get out sooner rather than later.
“Well for now you can rest, I’m sure you haven’t had an as comfortable bed as the one here in w while?” Her mother stood up, pushing a few of the young siblings out.
“That is true.” Alassiel stod and stretched out a bit.
“You can nap while we make dinner.” The shifter girl made her way to her old bedroom and settled into bed. With a yawn, Alassiel shifted until she found a comfortable spot and closed her eyes. Soon enough she felt some of her younger siblings coming for an afternoon nap settle on her back and stomach and then stilled to sleep.
It felt good to be back home.

New addition
Her family was safe, that`s all that mattered to Alassiel right this moment.
The shifter had taken up a position on a low branch from a tree and she watched her surroundings with sad eyes. The forest floor was completely tramped down bare of any grass. Tree stumps, from trees cut down to make room for those that did not live atop them, littered the muddy ground. It was not a pretty sight but at least all the bodies of the deceased had been picked up and given a proper burial. Those who had been injured had been carried to the healer tents where they were worked on day and night. Her own stitches and bruises reminded her all too well of her own time within those very tents.
Shifting, Alassiel lowered herself so she laid across the branch on her stomach. There were still quite a few Earthlings left behind, too many if one asked her but they didn`t bother her as much as these so called Yael did. They didn`t look like any proper Earthling she`d ever laid eyes on, their eyes glowed too and that couldn`t be normal could it? Every time she saw one it sent chills down her back and she just didn’t like them. There was something not normal about them and Alassiel was not going to stick around and find out what it was.
“Alassiel”
Looking down, she spotted one of her younger brothers waving at her from below. Alassiel briefly wondered how he’d found her and why he was so far home.
“Mom wants to see you before we leave.”
“I’ll be there in a sec.” He took off running into the woods.
Sighing softly because she had been quite comfortable where she was, Alassiel slowly made her way down the tree to the ground. It was time to head to where her parents were hiding and then maybe be back on the road? Alassiel wasn’t sure anymore, she feared for the safety of her family but she still wanted to go out and explore. She was going to have to make a choice at some point, but she wouldn’t rush the decision. Or maybe wait a few months with family just to make sure they were safe and well in their home again, yes perhaps just a few months was the sensible thing to do. Whatever the case, she was going to enjoy the time with her family.
Grabbing her spear and pack, Alassiel made her way towards the exit of the camp. Her parents had set up camp not too far from the military base just to be safe.
“Hey!”
“EXCUSE ME MISS YOU WITH THE SPEAR TRYING TO STEAL MY SNAPTROTTER!”
Alassiel paused and turned around to see a man running towards her with his arms flailing. He was Matori, a little chubbier than most she had seen which meant he was not someone who participated in fighting. By the time he’d reached her the poor man was out of breath, bent over hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath. Alassiel had no idea what he would want with her; she had certainly not tried stealing any Snaptrotters. The man’s breath finally settled and he pointed an accusatory finger at her which Alassiel only narrowed her eyes at.
“Can I help you?”
“Yes,” he breathed, “you have my snaptrotter.”
“I have no such thing sir; I think I would have noticed if I’d taken your snaptrotter.” Alassiel was annoyed; she didn’t have time for his.
“In your bag.”
“I can assure you,” Alassiel said with a tone of voice that showed how displeased she was. “That I don’t have anything in my bag.”
“Open it and see then or I am calling a guard.”
Insulted, Alassiel didn’t move before finally shrugging the pack off her shoulders and dropping it on the ground. She huffed angrily as she opened it up and put her hand in. Teeth bite onto her hand and Alassiel yelled pulling her hand out so fast to cradle it against her chest.
“See I told you! I make a living selling these; I think I know when one of them is missing!”
Taking a look inside again, Alassiel laid eyes on a baby snaptrotter on his back feet wiggling in the air.
“You sell these?”
“That I do.”
“Well I’d like to buy this one from you.”
“Are you serious?”
“Of course I am.” Digging her hand into her bag, Alssiel grabbed the baby snaptrotter in one hand to remove him and secured him against her hip while her other hand went in and brought out a small pouch. She opened the pouch and showed the man what was inside. They were all small precious stones she’d collected in her travels to the other provinces of Tendaji. “These all come from different places, places you’ve probably never been to. I am sure they are worth quite a bit and more than enough payment for this baby.”
The man seemed to mull over his options, but his eyes never left the shiny stones. With his finger he moved a few of the stones inside to get a look at the others beneath and then he nodded his head, his mind was set.
“I’ll take them.” Alassiel smiled and closed the bag to hand it to him. “This was a good, deal, have a nice day.”
The Shifter woman watched the man walk away with his stones and so she took the time to get a good look at her new addition.
“Raysh is going to be so angry that I’ve replaced him!” She chuckled, “but now little one you need a good name.” Alassiel stood up and kept the baby in her arms, he settled down easily in her arms. “I think I’m going to name you Ryhga. Sounds a bit like Raysh but I’m horrible at names.” She whispered quietly. Perhaps this is what she had been waiting for, she could stay until Ryhga was old enough to carry her and then she’d be out traveling.

Alassiel arrived back at the temporary home where her family were staying that evening; she was quick to climb up the tree towards the lights that had been left on. She was starving and was hoping to get a nice warm meal after all the fighting and just relaxing with family. It just so happened that one of her siblings spotted her and quickly made her way over to the branch Alassiel had just reached.
“Alassiel, father is hurt, where have you been?” There was anger in her sisters voice, but Alassiel was rather shocked by the news that her father was injured.
“What how?” Her sister motioned for her to follow her and they continued their climb, this time at a much faster pace.
“Some of the Alkidikes that ran away passed through, they shoved Alakia to the ground when they thought she was in their way. Father took it as an offense and went after them. He was out numbered and got stabbed in the ribs. You should have been here Alassiel, you should have been here to fight.” Her sister turned to give her an accusatory look before they finally reached the main platform where the family had gathered around their father.
“Father…” Alassiel moved towards him, he had been laid down atop blankets and his wound had been taken care of. When she reached him she kneeled and gripped his hand. He turned to look at her. “I am so sorry I wasn’t here father, I should have been and I wasn’t.” She was a disappointment; she should have known that until things had truly quieted down her family wouldn’t be safe. She should have been here. Alassiel wanted to punch something; she wanted to hurt whoever had done this to her father. She was going to find them and…
“Alassiel, I know that look,” he coughed. “Don’t do anything you’ll regret. I will live, now go rest up. It’s late.” Ally felt a hand on her shoulder and turned to see her mother motioning for her to come with her. She squeezed her father’s hand one last time before getting up and following her mother. What kind of elder daughter was she if she couldn’t protect the family? She was a complete failure not only to herself but her parents and siblings. She was supposed to be showing them the way of things and couldn’t even get that right.
Her mother led her up several branches before they reached the kitchen like area where the family cooked their meals. She sat Alassiel down and went over to the pot over a fire and poured some warm soup into a wooden bowl. She went back to Ally and handed her the soup before sitting down herself.
“You know you can’t blame yourself for this Ally.”
“I should have been there. I took up arms for this kind of thing. It’s my job to be here for you.”
“No one is perfect, you will make errors, we all do. You shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.”
The Shifter didn’t respond, she still felt it was her job, no her duty to protect her family and she had failed. Her mother gave her a pat on the shoulder before leaving Alassiel to her food. Now that she had a mount she would train harder, become better, and would not disappoint her family again. She would stay home and it would take whatever amount of time it took before she had mastered her art. Alassiel finished her food and headed up towards the top of the tree to get a better view of the stars.
She still couldn’t believe what had happened and was already planning tomorrow’s day. With her father unable to hold the family together, her older siblings would step in. Problem was they had their own children and such to worry about too. Her mother would be busy packing and keeping the younger children in line. Which meant Alassiel had to take up the mantle for her father. It was going to be tough, she knew that but she was up for the challenge. She felt the need to redeem herself after what had happened and she was going to prove herself better than this.
There was some shuffling and a head appeared, one of her older siblings had joined Alassiel.
“You know we can’t let this slide… Not after everything that happened.”
“I know…” Alassiel sighed.
“We have to go after them.”
“You mean I have to go after them, none of you can fight.” She didn’t expect any of her siblings to join her.
“You know what I mean.”
“So why aren’t you going after them?”
“Because I need to be here and protect you,” didn’t she know Alassiel had wanted to chase down those who had hurt her father? She had been seething about this whole thing since she’d known about it! “I can’t just go out and find them. Leaves you all vulnerable.”
Her sister sighed.
“Ally, go. Go find them. We’ll be fine. If you don’t go out now you’ll never catch up.”
It didn’t take much convincing for Alassiel. She was flying down that tree and trying to get to the middle ground so she could grab her things and start tracking down those who had done this. She heard people calling her name when she grabbed her things but didn’t reply to them before she was on the run again to get to the ground. She had a small idea on where they had been headed and went with that idea first. Being out in the dark probably wasn’t the best idea but Alassiel was determined. She knew her way from here.
It took Alassiel a lot longer than she had expected to reach the next little village where refugees had hidden. Many were already asleep when she arrived but Alassiel found some of the guards that had stayed up for protection and went over to the first one she saw.
“Excuse me,” she tapped him lightly on the shoulder and he turned towards her. “Listen, I’m looking for a small group of Alkidikes that may have moved through here. Seen them?”
“You missed them by a few hours, nasty little angry bunch they were. We kicked them out as soon as we could. I think they said something about making their own way towards their banishment.” Alassiel sighed and thanked the man. She had to try to catch up to them, she couldn’t’ stand by, not after everything that had happened. She was going to have to travel all night.
The Shifter was on the move again, travelling in the darkness under the stars to try and catch up to the group. They could have lied to the guards about where they were going, she didn’t know and it angered her. It was worth a try, Alassiel wasn’t going to just give up. She wanted them to hurt like her father had hurt and she wasn’t going to stop until they did. Her anger fueled her and she didn’t take many breaks, if she did they were short ones so that she didn’t stop for too long.
Alassiel reached the next village just as the sun was breaking through the darkness. She was exhausted, sleep tugged at her, and she was really hoping to find the Akidikes. The village was just waking up, Alassiel went to the first merchant she spotted.
“So sorry to disturb you. Do you know if any Alkidikes have stayed in the village over night?”
“I’m afraid not. They woke up quite a few people last night when they arrived but were gone just as quickly.”
“Alright thank you.”
Alassiel rubbed her face, she couldn’t continue. Her body was telling her she needed sleep and her family was still back home probably wondering where shed run off too. Leaving the village, Alassiel searched for a place to rest and began to make herself comfortable in the trees. Her priority was keeping her family safe at this point. She’d left with little to no supplies and hadn’t slept which meant she was putting herself and her family in danger. She was unable to forgive the Alkidikes, not after all of this. She had met a few who were nice, that she might have considered friends but no more.
No more would she tolerate their presence, she wanted revenge for everything. She vowed that she would never befriend an Akidike and would not let anyone forget what they had done. Where she went she would spread word of what they were really like. They would pay. Alassiel just had to give it time. She would perfect her skills and she would wait. These Alkidikes would show up again one day and she would be ready to take them on and bring them down. They would feel her wrath by the end of her lance. Grumbling Alassiel settled herself for sleep.
She would never let anyone forget who the Akidikes really are.Reflection I never really fleshed out 2 more negative traits for Alassiel and so I wanted to do a solo that would help me distinguish those two missing traits. As it just so happens, perfectionist and vindictive are what seemed to fit best with her. Perfectionist: If a job is worth doing then it’s worth doing well, in fact there is no reason to produce anything but the best of your ability. That being said, if Alassiel does something and it doesn't live up to her standards she will be extremely hard on herself over it all. Group projects for example, are a complete nightmare because she'll ask you to restart until she's satisfied it's perfect and sometimes she'll even do it for you! Vindictive: When someone wrongs Alassiel or someone she deeply cares for, there will be no mercy for them. She will go out of her way to make the person who wronged her feel remorse about what they did. She is not below petty insults or dragging the persons name through the mud. Once the person apologizes, and she feels it is sincere, it will take her a while to not be mad at them, but at least she isn't going out of her way to punish them.

M O N S T E R S ? Monsters? With the recently discovered Yaeli, the land of Tendaji has been abuzz with talk and gossip about their new neighbors. They're odd, they're strange and skittish, their eyes glow - but that can't possibly be true most say - the word on the street is that they're starting to leave their island. Those that had met the Yaeli know that it's an odd thing to hear. They were terrified of the outsiders, why would they leave their safe villages... Rumors are filling the toxic island where the Alkidikes extremists were banished along with the Matron. Rumors of monsters clawing their way out of the earth with oil black skin and glowing evil eyes that are even weirder than the strange monsters that landed upon their shores just one year ago. The Yaeli say that their gaze can steal the soul of any person dumb enough to get too close and they're vicious beings trying to take their children. These rumors have reached the main land as well, mostly through the few Yaeli that have decided they would rather face the scary but similar earthling races than to have to find out what the terrifying monsters want with them and their land. Is there any truth to these rumors or are the Yaelian's seeing things? Alassiel slowly scratched the top of Ryhga’s head. He’d just got done playing in the water and had decided to cuddle up to her and sunbathe for a bit and of course he had demanded to be pet with his head on her legs. She didn’t mind complying with him as long as it was with the hand that didn’t have the tattoo. She’d gotten it done about a week ago and it was still feeling a bit sore, hindering her movements and training. The man who had gotten it done though had said it wouldn’t take more than 2 weeks before she had her full movements back. Her father had survived and was slowly but surely healing. The doctors had said it would take a while for him to recover but he would eventually minus a few years of his old age. The family had returned to their home, it had been safe and unused thankfully still hidden in the trees. They’d spent the following week making small repairs and getting their tree home back in order. That’s when the rumors had started to circulate, or at least whispers when people thought no one was looking. Some of her siblings had brought back news when they went into town for supplies. In all honest, Alassiel didn’t care that there were now Yaeli that existed. She felt bad that they now had to deal with the banished Alkidikes. She knew that the Alkidikes would want to take over Yaeli and she wouldn’t be surprised if someone told her that the Yaeli had died out or been enslaved. The Yaeli would have to start fighting back and growing a backbone if they wanted to survive the invasion. Perhaps the glowing eyes would be enough to keep the Alkidikes in check. Or they would get used to the Earthlings since she was also hearing that they were coming to the mainland. Perhaps the most disturbing rumor that Alassiel had heard of however were these monsters that were propping up around springing forth from within the earth itself. Black skin and glowing eyes.... Did everything in Yaeli have glowing eyes? Alassiel had never met one, but if things started have glowing eyes here then they knew that the toxic Yaeli were to be blamed. As long as they were peaceful Alassiel wasn’t going to have an issue with them. She was going to be keeping her eyes and ears open. if there were signs that people got sick she wanted to know. Or there was a possibility that the Yaeli were simply completely and utterly insane. They couldn’t ask the banished Alkidikes to know if they had seen anything, but the Yaeli also couldn’t be taken at face value. Monsters weren’t propping up on the mainland, so what made Yaeli so special? And what made is toxic? Those were good questions and would be left unanswered for quite some time. If anyone was going to ask Alassiel to go to yaeli or step foot there, she had a very firm no for them. Not until they knew if it was safe for them to go over there. Until then however, Alassiel needed to prepare for her next trip. She was leaving her home again and would make it to Matori this time. Hopefully another war wasn’t going to break out and make her run back again. She’d never get to see the world if that was the case. Her family was also faring quite well without her, most of the siblings who had been children when she’d gone were a lot older now. They all shared responsibilities and she didn’t think her parents would have any more children. They’d topped off at 9 and that was good enough for them. “Alright let’s get going back home, the suns about to go down.” The snaptrotter made a low rumble in his throat but got up anyways. He was still growing, she would probably be able to ride him in a year or so. Which meant she was still going to have to do everything by walking but he’d be able to carry things around. He was also much better company than her Aldabuk. She’d leave Raysh with her family, they could use him for larger supply runs and such since their father wouldn’t be able to help that carrying things around. It was a good deal for all of them and she knew that she couldn’t find a better home for him than with her family.

This time, parting with family had been much easier than the first time. Alassiel didn’t want to leave but she knew it was time to go and she’d even given her final goodbye to Raysh who didn’t seem perturbed by the fact that his old owner was leaving behind. Alassiel figured Ryhga probably scared him more than anything else. Patting the snaptrotter Alassiel waved up to her family and began her trek through the forest. She was planning on making very few pit stops on her way to Matori and she wasn’t going to let anyone get in her way this time.
The first day passed by without any incidents. Alassiel stopped in Sol for a bit of rest and food, making sure she had enough packed to keep on going and then left. Usually she would have lingered but her goal was to reach Matori in three days which meant she had to move efficiently and us her time wisely. Alassiel left after a small caravan of Matori who she had overheard were going back to their home land as well. She decided to follow them since their pace matched hers but did not join them. Though it was hard not to notice a few of them glancing back and seeing her follow them.
The second day Alassiel also stopped in Serr. She was ready before them but decided to let them go first and let herself have a small leisurely walk I the market place before leaving.
“Were you planning on joining us at some point Shifter?” Came a voice from behind her and Alassiel turned to come face to face with a handsome Matori, one from the caravan.
“So I’ve been caught,” she said slowly trying to gauge his reaction. He gave her a large smile and patted her.
“If you want to join us all you have to do is ask pretty lady,” he winked at her and pointed to her tattoos. “Nice tats.” He dipped his head and began to walk away but Alassiel stopped him.
“Wait, I could use the company.” He smiled at her.
“Then come along, we’re leaving.” Alassiel quickened her pace to match his and followed him through the marketplace. They chatted in soft voices and he told her his name was Z’ren and that he’d been traveling all over but Matori held his heart and he had felt homesick so decided to return with a few of his friends.
“So you finally brought back that creepy Shifter girl following us!”
“That’s Adair, he’s a complete goofy. That over there, the twins are Devan and Deyl. I don’t see Ethnir, but he’s usually late so he’ll catch up whenever he can,” they all gave her a small wave. “This is Alassiel guys, be nice. She’s a feisty little lady.” He winked at her. “You can put your stuff on the caravan and then we’re going get going.” He gave a nod of finality and then left her to do as she pleased while he went to speak with the twins.
Ethnir did indeed come back late but made it on just before they had left the village. The group argued on when they would each Matori but came to the conclusion that it would at least take a day and a half before they got to any settlement. Z’ren told her they were headed for his hometown if she wanted to come with them she was more than welcomed to. Alassiel had seen no problem with it and agreed, she rather liked their company anyways. A few tried to flirt with her but Z’ren all deflected heir advances on her and stayed by her side.
Evening came and out camping they went, setting up their makeshift homes and then settling by the fire with some fish. Alassiel was happy to finally be out of the dessert heat. Z’ren grabbed his fish and came over to sit next to Ally.
“So tell me about your tattoo. What does it represent?” Alasiel glanced at her arm.
“Well, you know shifters change colors, you’ve seen me do it right?”
“Yes, I do quite enjoy your darker tones.” He murmured quietly.
“Well my family lives close to the sea; we provide fish for the few other families living close by and trade with other villages. It is why I use a trident and why I wanted a snaptrotter. In any case, the two fishes circling each other represent that part of my family and my Shifter moon and sun phases.”
“It’s very beautiful.” Z’ren gently touched the fishes, his fingers tracing the wave son her arms. The whole thing sent shivers down Alassiels back.
“Okay you love birds, quit it or go someplace else!” Z’ren chuckled, Alassiel reddened but no more of the subject was brought up.
They went to bed soon after dinner and were up early. Today they would reach Matori and head for Setal. Z’ren spend the day weaving, a skill Alassiel was surprised to see him have but a talent he decided to share with her. They weaved together silently on the side of the caravan as it was pulled along, the Shifter was happy and content. Matori was interesting, the little group headed right up to as close to the water as they could and from there headed towards Setal. Alassiel watched as Ryhga went to play in the water, splashing along as he followed the caravan.
It wasn’t until night time that they reached Setal, no one had wanted to camp out though a few had gotten a bit of sleep in the caravan itself Ally included.
“We’re here,” Z’ren whispered into her ear as he gently woke her up. Alassiel yawned, stretched and looked around. The village was nice, but she had no idea where to go from there.
“Do you have a place to stay for the night Ally?” Z’ren jumped off the caravan and grabbed his things.
“Not really.”
“If you like you’re more than welcomed in my home.”
“I don’t want to inconvenience you or anything.”
“You’re not an inconvenience, come on.” Grabbing her things, Alassiel got off the caravan and gave her final goodbyes to the group before following Z’ren back to his home. It was quite a small place, Alassiel wasn’t sure how or where they were going to be able to sleep together in such a place.
“You can have the hammock, it’ll take the ground. I know you must be a tired from travelling.”
“Are you leaving?”
“Going for a good swim actually.”
“Can I join you?”
“Well, if you don’t mind seeing my naked body then come along.” Z’ren chuckled when he saw her blush and left the little hut to make his way towards the water. Alassiel didn’t really mind, so calling Ryhga, she went after him.
“Everyone’s sleeping at this time, but the moon makes it so you can see everything in the ocean perfectly well,” Z’ren said as he glanced at Alassiel and grabbed her hand. “Night time is my favorite time, especially these last couple of days.”
Once they reached the beach, Z’ren began to undress and tru to his word he got completely naked before heading into the ocean. Rhyga followed in after him, the snaptrotter feeling quite at home back in Matori waters.
“Come on!” Z’ren called before disappearing under the waves. Alassiel wasn’t sure about getting undress in front of him, but seeing him under the water she hurried to get undressed and jumped into the cool waters. Z’ren popped back up and swam over to her.
“It’s so cold!”
“It rains a lot, but just let your body get used to it.” Coming closer, Z’ren grabbed onto Alassiel and pulled her up against him.
“What are you doing?” Alassiel whispered, feeling her cheeks blush.
“Keeping you warm,” he breathed next to her ear. Alassiel dropped her arms over his shoulders and he pulled her in even closer so they fit snuggling against each other. “You’re so pretty.” He nosed her gently. Ally knew what was coming next and let him kiss her. She’d never been kissed before but it felt like fire was running through her veins.
One thing led to another and Alassiel found herself waking up the next morning completely naked snuggled up to Z’ren on the beach with Rhyga keeping watch. The sun was just starting to come up and was warming up her body, not that she had needed anymore warming up.
“Good morning beautiful, hungry?” Z’ren grinned at her and kissed her.
“Yes I am,” Alassiel chuckled. Z’ren pulled her close to him and sighed softly. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing, I wish I could stay like this forever, but if we stay naked here all day someone is bound to notice.” Both of them started laughing before Z’ren finally got up and fetched their clothing. “Breakfast is on me.” He winked at her and waited until she was dressed before linking his hand in hers. Alassiel didn’t know how long she would be here for or how long this… thing would last with Z’ren but she was going to enjoy it to its fullest.
