Gathering Resolve

"My pride it bruised, my body battered; I don't like defeat."

Shifting about on the bed, Lydia managed to crawl beneath the covers as she watched Quinn leaving her room. She tried for a smile, but she suspected perhaps the expression had fallen short. She was tired, and she was sore. Besides, Quinn had already turned her back to slip quietly through the door, closing it behind her. Pulling her blankets up to her chin, Lydia curled an arm around a familiar stuffed turtle and listened to the sound of foot steps fading down the hallway.

She was thankful for Quinn, for so many things, but in that moment she was thankful for the other girl's similar views. Defeat was painful, not just on a physical level, but Lydia's pride had taken a serious bruising, and instead of needless coddling the veteran senshi had offered something much sweeter. Revenge. Cold and sweet. It seemed a ruthless endeavor, pointless and petty, but Quinn understood, and that had been one of the reason Navi had been drawn to the other girl in the first place. They would hunt the knights, uselessly loyal fools, and they would unleash their anger and fury upon that branch of the white moon, because the senshi were supposed to be off limits to them.

Thought out in that light it did sound heartless and cold, but there was a certain simplicity that appealed to the red head. Vengeance had never really appealed to her before she'd spent her time in the surrounding, but nothing in her life prior had ever warranted it. Now? She craved the chance to make those that had wronged her pay.

By now she had noticed a little piece of her self had twisted, and some tiny part of her morality, or perhaps just a fragment of sanity. She wondered if she mourned the lose, but the fact that she wondered at all was proof enough that she didn't.

She couldn't afford to be squeamish or weak, not anymore. This was only the beginning, and she'd barely scratched the surface of the things she'd be forced to endure and experience. She was hurt, but it was nothing to the state she'd found Quinn in weeks before, and there was a part of her that knew, deep down, that things could and would get a lot worse. They would all have to face dangerous foes and very real threat of injury or death.

Sighing, Lydia hugged the stuffed animal a little tighter to her chest. She didn't fear what lie ahead, but she couldn't simply blunder on as she had been. She needed to be stronger, smarter. Just better. It was time to stop playing around and get serious.

Dinner is Served

"Why are we CATS?!?"

Lydia has agreed to fix dinner for Veer as deal, and she's roped Quinn into helping, but before either girl can so much as lift a pan they find themselves in completely unfamiliar territory.

It's Not Funny!

"Despite the laughter and teasing, I'll seek comfort in your arms."

Still stuck as a cat, Navi goes searching for Chaonis in the hopes of finding some level of comfort and safety in his arms. That's not all she finds though.

Fluffy Death Match of Cute

"You again? Cats or not, we will make you suffer."

Navi and Leto, still cats, go out to scout for good places for mirrors, and run into a familiar squire while they're out.

I... Don't Like You

"I think I made an awful mistake."

Navi runs into Alberio, and even as a cat she's struck with the desire to extract revenge for her battered team mate. Unfortunately, Leto and the swan had already worked things out, and Navi's good intentions might have just ruined a plan in motion.

Shady Grove

"Human again, I'm so relieved I could cry."

She was happy to have fingers again. Hell, she was happy to be a human again! Being a cat hadn't been terrible, not really. Annoying, scary at time, but certainly not unbearable. The thought of being stuck that way indefinitely though? That had been panic inducing. Not just for herself, but she knew for a fact her roommate had thought the same. At least they'd had each other throughout the whole of the ordeal, and Navi had also managed to seek some measure of comfort from Chaonis. He could be insensitive, but in his own way he had managed to calm the poor dark mirror senshi's nerves, if only for a little while. Vaguely she wondered how others, however many there might have been, dealt with what was happening to them. Especially the civilians. Anyone not familiar with hidden war or the players on either side. At least Lydia and Quinn had known about Mauvians, they had something to go by.

Dwelling wasn't worth her time though, and as she lifted her cello from the case on the floor she could be nothing but happy that the whole ordeal was done with. There were so many things she had missed in that short time, things she'd taken for granted, and her music had been one of them.

The wood was cold, polished and smooth, and Lydia trailed her hand along the finely curved edge, admiring the expert craftsmanship, before settling the instrument between her knees, neck bracing against her shoulder. The bow was resting beside her on the bed, and she picked it up, positioning it in her hand so the neat hairs were facing the taunt lines of the string. Tapping it against them just to hear the faint sing of the fragmented notes as she considered what song to play.

It didn't take her long to decide. It never did, not when she didn't have sheet music to study or a specific song in mind.

With a peaceful smile she rested her bow against the strings, fingertips pressing into tight lengths, and began to play. Dragging the fine hairs along to coax the deep, honied notes from the instrument. It was a mournful sound, the cello's range was low, but the song itself wasn't sad. Thoughtful perhaps, but something in the melody saved it from being tragic and instead the notes painted a serene picture. It was a little folk, it's cords speaking of age, but Lydia adored it.

"Peaches in the summer time,
Apples in the fall.
If I can't have the girl I love,
I don't want none at all.

Shady grove, My little love
Shady grove I know
Shady grove my little love,
I'm bound for the shady grove."

I Don't Trust Fate Alone

"My Grant is now a part of my Court. I'm Trilled, and yet, cannot shake this feeling of unease."

After tucking Grant away in her bed for the night, Lydia had taken a seat at her computer desk and opened her laptop, and ended up just staring blankly at the log in screen. Exhaustion had hit when they'd returned home with Grendal through the mirror, but as soon as the cat had taken his leave(Although Navi had offered him a place to stay) and things had calmed down, her mind had startled running circles around itself. Not surprising really, considering everything that'd happened in the last few hours, but all she really wanted was to get some sleep. Clearly though, her thoughts weren't going to allow that.

There were things in the medicine cabinet she could have taken to help, but.. Although Virtus had healed her more serious wounds, she was still sore, and moving didn't sound appealing in the least.

So she sat, legs drawn up to her chest, and tried in vain to calm the whirlwind of thoughts that were plaguing her. Grant was at the center, of course, how could he not be. She never would have imagined her sweet boy as a soldier in this world, but clearly she'd been wrong. She should have been proud, and she was, but now that she had time to really absorb everything that had gone on fear had invaded her stomach and settled like a hard knot. Grant was no fighter. Understatement of the year... Lydia had never met a more peaceful individual. Yet, fate had thrown them a curve ball.

Pale lips pursed, the lower bud dimpling under the press of her teeth, as she turned to watch him sleeping. She could keep him safe, for now. Insist on going on patrol with him, and request she be the one to oversee the majority of his training. Leto would probably allow it, but Ares... Lydia wasn't sure, but it was certainly worth asking.

She bit her lip harder, arms circling around her legs tightly. She could keep him safe for now, but once his training was finished he was going to have to go off on his own. Knowing him as well as she did, she simply couldn't see him entering a battle situation and coming out of it well. He wasn't weak, physically, but he wouldn't even think to fight, not even to defend himself, and that was the scariest part.

That had to change. It was the only way Lydia could see to keep her dear Grant alive and well. It wasn't going to be easy, but she was going to have to make him realize that there were others out there that wanted them dead, and he couldn't stand idly by and let himself be taken out. He meant too much to her for him to simply roll over in die. Surely that would get through him. Not his own demise, but the effect it would have on Lydia.

Staring at him, he looked so peaceful. With a sigh the pale girl unfolded her legs and got to her feet. Tonight they would rest, tomorrow would be the start of Grant's training.
