Camelot was on patrol, as per usual. He was walking down a street that had looked like it was literally forgotten by the rest of the city, save some nameless bums curled into the darkest corners of the buildings. Litter and a heavy sense of burden and sorrow soiled the area, but Camelot was unaffected.

In fact, he was in a good mood.

His schedule was looking a little better. Work at the library had returned to a normal level, if there was such a thing, with daily returns and pick ups, check outs and ins, maintenance, meetings, and of course interactions with customers. The back up from his 'vacation' had all but been sorted at this point, and he had his volunteer assistant to thank for the ease in which he had been able to process his paper work.

He imagined without that particular help, he would have been chained to his desk for weeks, simply because it had been so disorganized and overwhelming he had not felt capable of even beginning to address it all. Once the beast of it had been tamed into ordered piles, priority lists and even some of the less important things being handled for him, it had turned out to be fairly painless.

Paper work, or computer work as the term might now be, was never his forte. Especially recently, he had become a much more hands on kind of guy. He preferred the patrons at his desk to emails and phone calls, and certainly preferred the books over print outs and processing.

But above all that, he found, he preferred patrol. Powered up as Camelot, the rest of the world melted away and the Squire of Earth could focus on a mission that would always feel impossible, and yet he found rewarding to pursue each night. It was important, not just because there were lives at stake, but because it was something he had been granted the ability to help in. It made him feel motivated, and though he felt like admitting it even silently made him a fool and an idiot, his pride remained.

He was fighting the good fight... no matter how strange it could sometimes be. Or how often it felt like he were losing more ground than he gained.

Was it really a grand idea to be out and patrolling as cats? No, probably not, but at least the two girls had had the sense to stick together and not venture out alone. Safety in numbers, or something like that. But really, they were cats, at a certain point safety became relative.

For once neither had gone out looking for a fight, having both agreed they'd spend the evening seeking out existing mirrors or locations that sorely needed them. That was a constant job for the small court of the dark mirror, and one they could do even while lacking opposable thumbs or the ability to attack beyond forehead lasers.

Still, the smaller of the two couldn't help but grumble out for what had to be the tenth time how foolish she thought the idea was, specially as they turned a corner into a rather shady part of town. "This is really not a good plan." No matter how much she complained though, she had yet to suggest or insist they turn around and go back. She knew duty, and she was loyal to their queen. They had a job to do, and being a cat didn't entirely change that.

Once again she wondered if the change was temporary or permanent. God, she hoped it wasn't the later. But every day that passed was another nail in the coffin, and if it kept up much longer she was going to have to go find Grant so the poor boy wouldn't worry over her being so terribly absent. Considering what the pair of them had gone through, she really didn't want to leave him thinking something terrible had happened to her.

It had, but at least she wasn't dead..

Then she felt it, an irritatingly familiar aura, and her tail fluffed instantly to twice it's normal size, fur raising up in angry line along her back. "Camelot!"

Just because they were cats now didn't mean they were exempt from their duty, at least not in Leto's eyes. So when she realized that they would be stuck this way at least for a while, she decided that her and Navi were going to go on patrol. Obviously they wouldn't be doing any energy draining or Senshi fighting, so they would do the next best thing: scout for areas in dire need of mirrors.

"We'll be fine," Leto muttered to Navi when she mentioned for seemed like the billionth time that this wasn't a good idea. "I doubt anyone would try and hurt a cat. And if they do? We got some forehead lasers we can use to get out of it. We'll be fine," she reiterated.

And that's when she felt the aura of a knight at the base of her neck. A line of fur stood on edge along her spine and her dark red eyes narrowed. Her paws clenched at the ground beneath them, her claws digging at the pavement.

If there was one thing she hated, it was Knights. Especially that one.

"Where are you, old man?!" She called out into the darkness.

Camelot frowned and stopped. There were voices in the air, calling to him. Angrily, as well, but he did not see or feel their sources. He looked around, knowing that there were some strange happenings going on concerning people turning into cats, and he wondered if that was what he was facing now.

When he moved a little further down the street and saw the two cats standing together, he felt a rush of pride that he had figured it out. He smiled at them, then noticed one was of a camouflage pelt and he had only ever known one senshi with camo print.

And she didn't like him very much.

The cat beside her, orange and black, reminded him of Navi now that his mind was mulling over senshi that did not like him. His smile faded a bit, but he tried to will it to remain, and for it to look natural and kind. Not nervous. They were cats, sure, but he knew the horror stories of people who owned angry cats.

"Ah... hello ladies," he said, wondering if they were still out causing trouble even though they were felines. He wasn't sure what to say, so he pointed out the stupidly obvious. "You're cats. Also, don't call me old."

The smile that met them as Camelot came into view was enough to have the bi-colored feline growling, shoulders hunching as her tail lashed irritably behind her. Why was he smiling? Did he think them cute? Harmless? If that was the case, then he was sorely mistaken.

His greeting earned him a rather sharp sniff, and other angry growl rolled up and out the darker cat's mouth. Dislike radiating off her like waves of heat in the desert.

It seemed as though he was every bit the fool she had last known him to be as he pointed out the obvious, and she would have rolled her eyes had he not insisted on correction her leader on calling him old. It actually made her laugh, and the angry posture she'd been maintaining relaxed almost in full. "Are you kidding?" She snorted, raising up on all four paws to walk a few steps closer. "You are old." Her tone was condescending. "You're probably old enough to be my father."

She hadn't forgotten what had happened the last time they'd come face to face, and Navi kept a wary eye on the gem glittering at the top of the knight's shield. She had no plans on being on the receiving end of that attack again.

Her fur remained raised along her spine as she crouched low to the ground to prowl towards him. That stupid smile on his stupid face making her all the more angry as she made her way to him.

"Whoa we're cats? No way! When the ******** did that happen!?" Leto's voice was irritated and dripping with sarcasm.

Her ears flattened against her head when she finally approached him and did a few circles around his legs. She sniffed at him and then took a few tiny steps backwards, deep in thought.

Now how the hell were two cats supposed to go about in taking on a Knight?

"Well, yes, I am probably that old, but that's not saying much. You're, what, twelve?"

So Camelot was getting a little snippy. It was an infinitely sore spot that everyone insisted on rubbing all day, every day. Or maybe he was just sensitive. He looked at the first cat, and then the other, thinking that his chances of helping them think he was not a bad guy were going out the window.

"Alright, alright, this is already out of hand," Camelot said, shaking his head and trying to reign in all their snipping. He looked at Leto as she walked around him.

"You two aren't really thinking we're going to fight, are you? I mean. I have a hard enough time trying to fight you when you're just children, let alone if you're a little animal."

He frowned. Anyway if someone saw a knight kicking a kitty it would be terrible. He was an animal person, even when they were people.

Apparently she'd finally managed to strike a nerve, it made the girl smile, though being a cat, the expression probably sat a little differently. It withered away rather quickly as he called her own age into question, and her tail gave an irritated slash. "Did I look twelve to you? Did I feel twelve in your arms?" She snorted, sinking down to sit on her haunches.

"A hard time?" A roll of bitter laughter erupted from the bi-colored cat, and she pressed a paw to her chest. "Really? It didn't feel like you were having a hard time the last time when you summoned that damn crystal." It hadn't occurred to the dark senshi that his hurting her had mostly been an accident, and why should it? They were enemies. For all she knew the old man was a liar, and that made the most sense all thing considering.

She rose back to her feet, stalking slowly forward. "We're not children, and don't you dare go and sell us short just because we're cats." Colorful fur lifted along the ridge of her spine.

He'd beat her before, but she hadn't been expecting the blast from the crystal. She knew about it now, and Leto was there with her. They might be cats now, but they had speed and agility on their side, not to mention claws. They knew to avoid that damn shield of his. Really, their chances weren't as low as he assumed them to be.

Leto stared at him, the expression on her face switching from angry to dumbfounded. "Twelve? Seriously? Are you that delusional? The disgusting White Moon may have kids running around in fukus fighting this war, but the Dark Mirrors would never stoop to that level."

She suspiciously eyed the crystal on his shield when she finally stopped circling him.

"Didn't seem to have such a hard time blasting my friend here with your crystal and sending her back to me hurt."

She was mentally cursing her paws for not being hands that she could slap him with yet again. For some reason she really enjoyed slapping this guy.

Camelot bit on his lower lip.

What was he going to say? Oh, sorry, I didn't know it was going to do that to you? But hey, you seem fine now, right, so no harm no foul. Except no, that wasn't it at all. He imagined that would just infuriate them further. And they looked like two very angry cats already.

Camelot was quickly realizing he only liked cats when they were happy.

And he wasn't too excited to fight them. Punching cats? That would literally make him the worst man on the planet, he was pretty sure. Though, they both already seemed to think he was, so he wouldn't be losing much ground there.

"Now, now, that crystal thing was an accident," he tried, knowing that it wouldn't go well, "I didn't know what it would do and thought it would... just... push her back... anyway, I really don't want to hurt either of you, as cats or as kids." He would not let up on that fact, though. Whether they liked it or not, they were just children. He took a risk and stooped so he was nearer to them, trying to look as passive and friendly as he could.

"I just want to help you."

The older knight bit his lip, and Navi's eyes narrowed. He looked guilty, was it for hurting her? If so, she wasn't really sure how to feel about it. Happy perhaps, but really the only thing that came to mind was how spineless he seemed to be.

He injures her, plays it off like he hadn't meant to, and maybe he didn't, but he easily could have used it as threat. She wasn't keen on being on the receiving end of that blast again, but it didn't seem as though he was any keener to use it again. So what was to keep Navi and Leto from continuing to hunt him until they eventually just killed him?

"Oh, whoops!" She hissed, sarcasm and posture making an absolute mockery of his admission. "Just some little accident, like split milk?" Mmm, milk... Wait. Stop that!

The fur along her spine lifted again, and dark claws curled into the pavement as he once again referred to them as kids. "We. Are. Not. Children!" They were young, but they were adults by law, and they were certainly old enough to fight in this stupid war.

She was close to him when he stooped low, and once again the dark senshi had to wonder where this man's brains were. No wonder he was so loyal to the ******** White Moon Court, he was a mindless pawn. "Oh do you? Like you helped me last time, or the time before that?" Hazel eyes narrowed into furious slits. "I think not"

The attack was sudden and without warning. Navi bowed her head, squared her tiny shoulders, and fired the laser from the black star on her forehead. She was aiming for his heart.

"I thought we made it pretty clear that we don't want, or need, your help? ******** Knights..." Leto was speaking through clenched teeth as she practically shot daggers at Camelot via her eyes.

When Navi used her laser, Leto bounded at him from his side and launched herself at his face, claws extended. Her plan was to swipe, digging her claws into the flesh of his face and maybe at some point sink her teeth into him. She wasn't ready for her laser just yet. -Just- in case he decided to use his damn crystal again, she was saving her laser for later.

This time however, there were no hot tears of anger stinging her eyes.

This time, she was attacking without remorse.

Damn her being a cat.

Camelot very nearly smiled when Navi got distracted by thoughts of milk. They were much nicer when they were acting like cats, but he knew that wasn't likely to last. They weren't cats, he told himself, they were still very dangerous senshi that hated him.

Could not forget that last part.

Not hard to keep in mind, really, when his efforts to make some kind of show of peace and trust were taken for an opening and the attack came. Fur and lasers and claws were all he knew for a second, and he let out a strangled yelp as the laser slammed into his upper chest, armor ringing, and he was thrown off balance.

"Wait, wait!" he yelped as a cat glomped onto his face and he yelped in pain as her claws dug into his skin. The one spot he did not have any kind of defense, armor, chain mail or even fabric, and she had to aim for it. He reached up on instinct and grabbed the back of her neck with one hand, and pulled at her paws with the other.

Cats were damned fast, but at least they were small and light. Doing the only thing he could think of in his moment of panic, he threw one cat at the other, scrambling to his feet and wobbling. He looked where his armor was sizzling, but it didn't look like there was any lasting damage.

Still, the whole thing had caught him by surprise. Kind of. He knew he shouldn't have gotten so close to them, and now he had learned that lesson the hard way. He watched them tensely, shield up.

Was he going to have to run from cats? Was that better than being forced hurting them? He wasn't supposed to be a man of pride, but he knew they would hold it over him for eternity, as their confrontation would not end here. So what was worse? Giving them a reason to think he was a coward or giving them more reason to hate him?
PostPosted: Fri Dec 02, 2011 2:11 pm

The yelp was satisfying, as was the sizzle of the laser as it struck the armor covering his chest, and the bi-colored cat let out a cry of triumph, features gone feral. She was grinning as she bounced forward a step or two, proud of her captain and the assault she was making on the old man's face.

She hoped those dark claws stung.

The dark seated glee was terribly short lived though. Camelot got a hold of Leto by the scruff and before either cat could do much to react, he had flung the camouflaged feline in Navi's direction.

There was time to move, a split second to duck out of the way and get to safety, but Navi instead stood her ground and braced. Cushioning Leto's fall so the other DMC wouldn't get hurt. The impact hit a little harder then Navi anticipated, and the wind rushed from her lungs in a startled gasp before she and the other cat both rolled across the concrete.

Her voice was was a touch strained as she rose back to her feet, tail lashing wildly behind her. "Throwing cats now? You really are a heartless b*****d."

There was nothing sweeter to Leto's ears than the yelp that came from Camelot when Navi's laser hit him square in the chest. No wait... That was a lie. The sound of him asking her to wait as she attached herself to hit face via claws was just a little bit sweeter. Until of course he grabbed her by the scruff and that satisfied feeling disappeared.

All four of her long kitty legs shot out in front of her as she grasped for something to latch onto. She flailed for the brief moment that he held her. Then she was tossed aside like she was nothing and slammed into Navi much harder than she expected. She slowly pushed herself back up onto all fours, headbutting Navi gently in the nook of her neck in apology for hitting her so hard and as thanks for softening her fall.

And then her attention was turned back to Camelot. Leto was breathing heavily, both from the fall and from unbridled anger. Her tail whipped back and forth in the air as she lowered her front half, her back-end high in the air and her camoflaged fur raised all over her body.

With a strained look of concentration, Leto's own star shot it's laser at Camelot.
