_Time for Adjustment_ SOLO ~ Ian alone
It had been some months since his shoulder injury at the hands of the Negaverse, and it still bothered Ian sometimes, but weekly tai chi lessons had done wonders nonetheless. Truthfully, Ian had wanted to take some sort of martial art for quite a while, but had never really gotten around to it, in that way that some people who resolve for New Years to diet never "get around to it". Part of him just figured that he was not cut out for physical prowess, and had moved on an accepted it, not-so-grudgingly pursuing other hobbies like chess on the internet and reading exceedingly thick history books. But injury rehab provided enough of an excuse for Ian to give the slow, steady martial art a try, leaving him wondering why he had not started sooner.
The combat application of it was not lost on him, either. Periodically during lessons, Ian found himself wishing that he might have a chance to test out one of the moves that his teachers made look so easy. Mister Wu, the Taiwanese teacher, expounded regularly on the power of qi and knowing out to control it, which made Ian feel more confident that, in spite of it being such a low-impact technique, he could still use some of what he learned in battle if he ever found himself fighting again.
Of course, he really did not want to fight at all except to defend himself. Ian's recent discovery that he was, actually, a Knight somewhere inside only compounded his conflicted feelings. Between the tai chi finally strengthening muscles that were not required for ChessNuts play, and discovering an inner power, the red-haired boy felt stronger. It just also worried him that now he would be called upon to get into fights. He had wanted to be able to take care of himself, and wished to be able to watch out for others like his old self, but Ian had imagined senshi magic that he could throw from a distance. There was a reason he liked being the wizard or the sage in video games - he had difficulty identifying with the fighters who wanted to risk life and limb jumping into melee.
And Red Cliff's feather duster just ... baffled him. What was he supposed to do with it? A sword or spear made a lot more sense, or even a shield like Camelot carried. Ian had gone through the course book for higher levels of tai chi classes, and the lessons with weapons sounded like a good place to start, but feather dusters were not exactly the same as the war fans that he had seen in some martial arts. He was fairly sure the class would mostly be in swords anyway, and he was not sure if the duster could be weilded the same way. It certainly did not have a cutting edge like a jian or a dao.
He only hoped he would have some time to experiment, preferably without threat of further serious injury in the process.
As always, Ian would have to rely up on his intelligence to get accustomed to al of this crazy space battle stuff. Fear of the physical nature of it was the biggest obstacle for right now. Tai chi could only help, but the red-haired boy still wished he had some guide or tutor for the adjustment.
And after what happened with Camelot the day he had awakened, asking him just felt ... awkward.
He would just have to venture into another discomfort zone and go out and meet people.
