Sometimes it very much bothered him when there was a song stuck in his head, some catchy ditty from the radio that lodged in there, sometimes just the chorus or some snatch of melody... the songs seldom had any respect for if you actually enjoyed them or not, they just took up residence and used you to travel from one unfortunate ear to another without regard for sanity or decorum.

Tonight though he was enjoying the slight freedom of wandering the streets with the anonymity of his mask, the song which had started as a hum was now being carefully sung one phrase at a time as he recalled the successive lyrics to the best of his ability, He'd grown so accustomed to the song too that he had little difficulty continuing to draw energy when he paused in his meanderings... and could continue singing as he lined his pockets with precious 'pearls.

His voice wasn't unpleasant, soothing almost, something that did him great service when bending the ears and sometimes the thoughts of those whom he took care to converse with, though at least for now it was being applied to nothing more dangerous than a 'pop single' he had decided wasn't wholly a waste of airwaves.

Ian had to wonder about the coat. It was sort of a coolish night, but it was damp enough out that he was not upset that he had forgotten his sweatshirt. The grocery store had been chilled beyond human comfort, but walking home, it was a little sweaty.

Of course, the red-haired boy would never question a stranger. Even as the length of his stride brought him gradually closer to the humming young man in the coat walking in front of him.

... It was a really cool coat, though, he had to admit.

"H-hey," he ventured, with a shy smile, shifting the plastic bag of groceries that could not wait to the other hand so they would stop cutting off the circulation on his arm. "May I ask where you got that coat? I can't say I've seen one like it before, and it looks pretty awesome."

The Young man he addressed turned, there was more strange to his clothing than just the coat... for example the fact there was a mask that covered the lower half of his face. He slowed to match you, stopped if you did with a hint of amusement in the pale blue eyes that glanced you over as though he were reading you like the cover of a novel.

"That would take a bit of explanation I'm afraid... it's not sold in stores, just something I was 'given' you could say. I'm sure I could introduce you to the people I got it from.. .if you're interested." He offered civilly. "It can be a bit of a 'pain' to get your hands on their work though."

He gave a small smile, just made out through the fabric of his mask like something just said was amusing.

Ian had not been expecting the mask, truth be told, and he backed off slightly, looking a bit nervous. Maybe this guy was one of those convention people? Although he was fairly certain that there was neither a center nearby nor a convention actually going on.

"Ah, okay," he replied with a slight stammer. That would show him for being friendly; Ian just had to pick the weird guy to talk to.

Although the answer, he decided after a moment, was intriguing as well as perplexing. "Wait, what exactly do you mean?" the red-haired boy then inquired cautiously. Was he talking about superhero stuff? ... Or should he be watching out for himself now? Ian was fairly sure he would have enough of a chance to run away before the stranger in the mask could grab him or anything, and he saw no weapon, to his infinite relief.

Just ... be careful, get a few more answers. Maybe he would learn something else to help keep himself safe - a precious commodity in this city, it seemed.

"It's nothing..." the other said with that same tone of amusement, then reached to pull down his mask, a young face, and the smile there seemed oddly detached from the almost cold eyes, though that could have been as much their color as any true lack of warmth.

"I'm not about to jump and yell 'boo' you realize." He added amused. He'd not had a conversation like this in some time and he was enjoying himself more than a little at the edgy discomfort and persistent curiosity.

At least there were no rows of freakish teeth or anything unusual under the mask. Just a sort of peculiar smile. Ian smiled back, if nervously. Yelling 'boo' was not at all what he was afraid of. But so far, this stranger had not whipped out a pointed stick or anything to beat him up.

"You're not one of the ones from the news, are you?" he then asked, pulling his gaze away from the stranger's eyes only with great difficulty. "With the magic powers?" The red-haired boy made no specification as to whether he meant the senshi or whatever exactly the other ones were. Mostly because he was not sure yet himself how to differentiate. All the senshi he had met so far were girls, and so it stood to reason that, if one of them were a boy, he would probably not wear a little frilly skirt. As for what he might have instead, Ian could only guess. A fancy long coat?

That in turn earned a sharp laugh. "No... No I am not one of the skirted 'wonders' dancing about the city using it as their playground." He said rather carefully if a touch darkly as though he had yet unshared opinions of them that ran rather deep and passionate.

"Why... did you hope I was?" He tilted his head. "Or afraid I was..."

Ian's brows furrowed, and he switched one of his bags of groceries to the other hand, so he had one in each, before trying to decide which one was heavier. Not that a quart of milk would likely be useful for more than one swing but ... on the other hand, maybe an exploding milk carton could make a pretty decent distraction.

He tried not to look like he was preparing for trouble, though. Not terribly difficult, since, when it came to combat, Ian really did not know what he was doing. But, if this was not going to get violent, he would not be the one to start something.

"I was just curious," he replied, then frowned. "Life has gotten very strange, being only vaguely aware of whatever battle is going on here, but still getting dragged into it every now and then." The boy paused, then asked, "What is this all about? With the ones in skirts and then ... whomever you are?" He could only assume that this stranger with the awesome coat was on the same side as the crazy woman who had attacked him.

Ian winced visibly as his shoulder twinged a little, as though in warning. He no longer needed the sling, but the joint was hardly as good as new.

He didn't offer a name, at least not at first, but he did offer an amused hand with the groceries. "Those look heavy...do you need help?" He offered looking friendly enough for someone who was probably on the same side as 'that woman.'...at least he was more polite?...so far.

"Sorry to hear you've been dragged into it, people do get... over... enthusiastic at times." He said with a heavy sarcasm weighing in on the words 'enthusiastic', he sounded frankly disapproving. "DO you really want to know what's going on? Or will you just assume that I'm spouting the company line at you?" He offered at last.

"Not right now, thank you," Ian responded politely, shaking his head and frowning warily. He was still not eager to get within arm's reach of the stranger, even if it was reassuring that there were still no weapons involved yet.

The stranger's next words intrigued him, and the red-haired boy glanced over again. He considered a moment, then replied, "Tell me, please. I can judge for myself."

"Senshi took a good number of my friends...held them for roughly....two weeks while we scoured the city searching for any sign of where they were being held. During that time they... tortured many of them for names of friends... family members, I'm sure there were more questions they can't remember but that they might have answered...." he trailed off, his eyes narrowed.

"Burned them, broke bones, beat them...more, a few of them they killed, one... they cut to pieces by bits of glass, I saved one that they had been leaving to be devoured by rats...it's amazing the damage rodentia can do, cut throats... other, profound brutalities drawn out past even the greatest stretch of understanding. So...no, I am not a senshi, I want nothing to do with them, their queen, their so called kindness and their two faced propaganda... how is that for a start." He gave a mirthless smile.

"...not all of them know about it it seems, minions, little propaganda hand puppets kept in the dark as false paragons of 'virtue' till they try and kick your head in, civilian or not."

He had no idea in truth if the beating he had taken before being inducted was senshi or Nega, but that wasn't the point just now was it.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 26, 2011 10:38 am

Ian looked understandably perturbed at the description of torture, and nodded slowly. It was certainly unlike what he had heard of them so far, though that had also been limited. And also widely varied, really. Buildings were constantly destroyed, it seemed, in whatever war this was between the Negaverse and the Senshi, and it seemed quite logical for the media to deem one or both groups as terrorists. But Ian had long wondered if that had all been accidental - magic powers being unleashed in a closed space, and all that.

But ... there was no way to call this sort of thing accidental.

The red-haired boy wanted to dismiss this as propaganda, as well. Especially since the boy in the long coat in mask had already essentially dared him to only think it his 'company line'. Of course both sides would try to win the unsuspecting populace over to their cause.

But the best weapon Ian could have right now was information. This one seemed apologetic that he had been injured; perhaps his innocence in this whole war could offer him a sheen of protection to ask at least a few more questions.

Licking his lips, he opened his mouth, pondered an extra moment, then inquired, "So you're not really concerned with us ... normal people, then?" Ian gestured with one bag of groceries straight ahead on the sidewalk and added, "Walk with me, please."

"That... would depend what you mean by concerned." He said with a small if careful shrug. "Except for the uniform... I don't think of myself as 'not' general." He paused at that word for reasons unknown, a small spark in his eye..."Normal...sorry." He shrugged. He walked by your side, casual and unaffected.

"I think... the senshi are a... disorganized rabble, I have... seen, how very different they are from us." He said his eyes narrowed thoughtfully remembering the days of star seeds, how much brighter they were than those of your day to day humanity. "I've seen... scraps of a history long since forgotten, I can't even ask you to believe... it would sound to ridiculous if I hadn't been there. All of this would...being snatched briefly off this -world- by one of them... " He shook his head and looked just for a moment, troubled before the 'mask' snapped back into place like he was playing poker with his emotions. "It's..." he waved a hand trying to look casual, though it was perhaps less effective after that brief show.

"If I could show the world I would...I'd show them everything I have seen and let them decide, far better than words to let people decide on their own from what people -want- them to see. But who would believe... who would -ever- believe." He shook his head and a flicker of a frown appeared again and vanished.

The boy slowed, watching the stranger carefully as he spoke. Information was still good, he maintained, but that did not guarantee that what the boy in the coat offered made terribly much sense. Still, Ian took it in for now, nodding politely as he did so, and figured that, the more he gathered, the easier it would be to puzzle through it all. Magic powers and monsters were already strange enough, but this fellow seemed touched by something, no doubt. Ian felt a a hesitant sympathy for him in that regard.

"So your goal is ... to try to spread whatever it is you have seen?" he asked, after the blue-haired boy's frown had come and gone. "Not necessarily to attack those of us with no powers?" Ian chewed his lip. "I mean, who is it who keeps putting people in the hospital? Is it the monsters?" He paused a moment, then queried a bit more quietly, "Or do people just keep getting in the way of the battles between you and the senshi?"

"Some of all of us... Monsters, senshi...and Us...some of the civilians try and get involved without... joining. its not... a good idea." He shook his head firmly, like a teacher scolding a student.

"There have been... others too, they try and blame us for -everything- though I can swear on most anything you like that we were NOT the ones who put half the city to sleep... nor was it the monsters, leaves very few candidates really... "

He gave a small shrug.
