Child Journal Entry 1

Dear Journal,

My mum says that I am to keep this journal for my thoughts and feelings. I do not know what that means. But I promised her I would write in this.

My favorite things are dinosaurs. They are big and strong and really old. Mum says they do not live anymore because they are extinct. She also says that scientists still do not know why they died. I do not think they are really dead. I have seen spawn that look like dinosaurs.

My two best friends are Vali and Marii. They are both really cool. They are both boys!
Vali is silver. He has two horns that point forward. Mine point up. Vali has a long tail with a point on the end. He has three blades on each arm sort of like the spikes on my right arm. His hair is really shaggy. I have never seen his eyes. Does he have any? He has never seen cartoons before! I should invite him over one day for cartoons!
Marii looks like a fish and lizard. He looks the most like a dinosaur. He has lures that he can make glow. They are cool too! I spent the night at his house once. It was fun. There were ninjas. Marii's mum is a ninja!

Mum says that I need to dress more like a girl. I do not want to. I cannot run in dresses. They are not cool.

I want to see how fast I can run but mum says that she does not have a stopwatch. I am going to try to make her one.

So you want to sew?

Bleez was watching one of her dinosaur videos. She’d seen the thing a million times, but it was about Tyrannosaurus Rex and her favorite thing to watch. She was currently hanging upside down on the couch, reciting everything the narrator was saying in perfect sync. When the Rex came on she even roared with it. So, when Moira managed to sneak the remote away from Bleez and turn off the television, she was mid-sentence.

“’EY!” she flipped herself upright, glaring at her mother. “I.was watching.dat!” Her tail swayed back and forth in her irritation. She sank her balled up fists into the seat cushion, like that would help her case.

Moira stared at the little Wrath/Liberality spawn, her hand that held the remote too high for Bleez to reach. “I thought ya wanted to learn ‘ow to sew today, Bleez?” This mentioning of sewing perked Bleez’s attention. In a blink she was by Moira’s side, tugging on her arm, trying to drag her to the workroom where Moira did all her sewing. Moir laughed, that was easier than she expected. She tossed the remote on the couch and allowed Bleez to lead her to the sewingroom.

Once inside, Bleez took up her normal seat next to the sewing machine. She’d seen her mother sewing on countless occasions and had always wanted to learn. One day she got up the courage to ask Moira to teach her, she wanted to make cool thinks for her friends and herself, like costumes and nifty looking bags! Bleez especially wanted to make a knight’s costume for Vali and a King’s outfit for herself… maybe even a Princess Dress for Pippin. She’d heard Vali say he was his princess, though she didn’t exactly know what that meant since princesses were girls. Either way, Moira agreed; once Bleez got older and she felt she was able to hand sew.

Moira sat in her seat in front of the sewing machine. She reached under the machine and pulled out a small, green, metal lockbox. Moira smiled and handed it over to Bleez, who timidly took it and looked it over. She opened the box to find an assortment of needles and threads. She looked up from the box, to Moira. “Is.dis.mine?” she blurted. Moira smiled and nodded.

“Now, I’m going to teach you how to ‘and sew before I teach you about the sewing machine, okay?” Moira had pointed to Bleez’s sewing box and then to the sewing machine. “First, you’ll need a needle and some thread. So go a’ead and pick some out. We’re just gonna sew some scrap fabric pieces together, so you can choose whatever color thread you want.” Moira smirked, knowing exactly what color Bleez would pick up.

As expected, Bleez grabbed the kelly green thread from the box and then random pieces of scrap, green fabrics. She placed the fabric in her box on her lap and looked back to her mother for the next step.

“Take your scissors out of the box, and be careful, they’re very sharp! They need to be sharp so you can cut the thread to where it’ll go through the needle easily.” Moira picked up her thread and scissors as Bleez copied her. She snipped the thread to make more of a point, then threaded it into the needle effortlessly. Bleez made all sorts of faces as she tried to cut the thread and then slip it through the needle. Moira couldn’t help but giggle, she’d done the same when she was first learning to sew.

“Loop the thread counterclockwise over the needle and pull it through. You'll ‘ave the beginnings of a knot, but you need to guide the loop down to the fabric and tighten it. Use your finger to keep the knot in place while it tightens,” Moira instructed, then quickly added, “Do this twice!” Moira showed Bleez then helped her with her own knot.

“I’m just going to teach you a running stitch, it’ll be easier for you to learn. Bring your needle up through the fabric from the until the knot hits the fabric. Then you'll simply make a stitch to the left or right of where the thread came through. Bring the thread back up and repeat.” Moira showed Bleez by stitching two pieces of fabric together with ease. “Now go ahead an’ try.”

Bleez pulled the needle through the fabric, immediately pricking her finger with the needle. Her jerk caused her sewing box to fall on the floor. She looked furious as her things scattered across the floor and her finger began to bleed. Moira jumped to her feet, placing her little project to the side.

She knelt next to Bleez, humming to get the child to calm down. She took hold of injured finger and held it still. “Now, now, it’s not that bad, hon. Just calm down and I’ll got get you a band-aid.” Moira stood and took off to the bathroom to get the first aid kit.

Bleez sucked on her finger, glaring at her needle that lay on the floor. She huffed, letting the air escape through the fanged side of her mouth. Despite her anger, she picked the needle and the fabric back up. She took her injured finger out her mouth and looked at it. It was bleeding still, but not much, she pricked it pretty good.

She sat back down and tried to stitch again, this time careful to keep her fingers out of the way. She managed to sew an entire side together when Moira came back with a band-aid and a cotton swab. Bleez looked up and showed her mother what she’d done. It wasn’t perfect, none of the stitch lines were even by any standards, but the pieces were staying together at least. And, there happened to a few little dots of red all over the fabric.

Moira blinked and slowly walked over to the spawn. “Lemme see yer finger.” Bleez held it out and Moira dabbed it with the swab. The child hissed at the stinging feeling of the antiseptic, jerking back a little. Moira held her finger firmly and wrapped the band-aid around it.

“Mum, did.I do.okay?” Bleez held her fabric up again.

“Oh, yes, very well for your first try, dear.” Moira smiled sweetly to the girl. “You’ll just need more practice an’ you’ll be better’n me even!”

Bleez beamed at this and couldn’t wait to get back at it.

Can a Black Thumb be Green Too?

Bleez looked at the plant, obviously bored of his activity already, even though her and her mother, Moira, had just started. Moira was trying to teach Bleez the finer points of growing award-winning flowers. Bleez couldn’t care less. Plants were boring; they just sat there and looked “pretty.” The only good thing about plants, in Bleez’s mind, was that they were green.

Moira tied another iris to the wooden stake she had stuck in the ground. “This will insure the plant will grow nice an’ straight,” Moira explained to Bleez. Bleez’s only reaction was to give a grunt. At least she was halfway listening, right? Moira looked at the Wrath/Liberality spawn, who was now lying flat on her back in the cool grass. “Don’t ya want to know about what I do? And ‘ow to grow flowers of your own so you can give ‘em to your friends?” Bleez gave an indecisive sigh and continued staring up at the slowly drifting clouds. Moira needed to think of something quick if she was going to get the girl’s attention back.

A long, silent moment passed between the two as Moira tried to think of a suitable method of getting Bleez’s interest in the subject again. She tried to remember how her mother had gotten her interested in gardening. Her own flower! Moira snapped her gloved finger, setting down a pair of shears she’d had. She spun to face Bleez, a broad smile on her face. Bleez looked at her quizzically; she had bolted up-right when her mother had made the muffled snap.

“What if we get you your own plant to take care of?” Moira blurted out, excited at her own idea.

Her excitement, however, faltered when Bleez didn’t mirror her mother’s enthusiasm. She just sat there with a blank expression on her face, “Huh?”

“When I finish what I’m doing here, how ‘bout we go to the flower shop and get you a flower all your own?”

“’Kay,” Bleez shrugged, a lazy tone to her voice.

~*~

Moira held Bleez’s hand as they walked into the humid greenhouse. Bleez was all too apathetic about the whole situation. She’d rather be at home, reading one of her many dinosaur books. Oppositely, Moira was ecstatic. It was like placing a kid in a toy store and telling them to go and have fun.

Moira’s grip on Bleez’s hand loosened until gravity pulled the child’s [currently unresponsive] arm down to hand by her side. “Okay, ‘un, go ahead and find yourself a flower. I’ll be right ‘ere, speaking with Mrs. McKinney.” Moira smiled warmly down at Bleez, who could not return the gesture.

Bleez mumbled something unintelligible and shuffled off. The normally quick, active spawn dragged her bare feet as she aimlessly wandered around the building. She had been rendered into a shell of her hyperactive self by the sheer boredom of this task. As she moved through the greenhouse, she would occasionally glance up, her gaze affixed to the floor, otherwise. There were too many boring flowers that all smelled weird here. Not to mention, there were bugs too, and not the cool ones [like mantises] either. This wasn’t any fun at all!

In her amblings she managed to come across a table with weird little plants on it. She didn’t take much interest in them at first glance, but as her eyes came to rest on a plant that looked more like a mouth, her curiosity caught her up. She moved closer to the table, confused by what this was. It was all green, except for the center, which was pink. The pink area was surrounded by a row of several green “teeth.” Bleez tilted her head at the plant. It was a plant, right? It wasn’t moving and it was in the greenhouse, so it must be a plant.

Bleez was so focused on the plant that she failed to notice a tiny fly as it buzzed around her. It wasn’t until it landed on the pink of the plant that she saw it… for a split second. In a blink, the plant’s “mouth” had completely closed around the insect. “Whoa!” Bleez mouth silently.

She lifted her clawed hand slowly and gingerly poked the center of an opened “mouth.” She quickly jerked it back, expecting it to snap on her finger. When nothing happened, she gently lifted the plant by the shallow pot it was set in. She brought the plant closer to her face and a giant smile formed as she studied the plant.

In another moment she was standing next to Moira, the plant lifted as high as she could reach. “I.want.dis.one!” she blared. Moira and Mrs. McKinney blinked at the sudden appearance and noise created by Bleez.

Moira was the first to recover, more accustomed to Bleez’s speed than Mrs. McKinney was. “Hon, dat’s not really a flower,” she tried to calmly explain to the girl. “That’s a Venus Fly Trap.” Bleez’s face began to glow red with anger at this. Moira went over the entire situation in her head quickly. This was a completely different result than what she’d expected, but Bleez did have a plant. “Okay, okay, you can ‘ave the plant.” She turned to Mrs. McKinney, “Do you ‘ave any books on Venus Fly Trap care? I ‘ave never even thought of caring for one before.”

The older woman nodded and bent down to retrieve a little pamphlet on caring for the plant. When she raised; she blew a thin layer of dust off the book, handing it to Bleez. “There ya go, sweety.” She turned to Moira, “That’ll be $3, dearie.” Moira handed her the money, relieved that the plant was very cheap.

~*~

Bleez sat the plant in the sun on the counter. “Mum, Jaws.needs lots.o’.light.”

“Jaws?” Moira asked, amused that Bleez had named the plant.

“Yup, and.he’ll eat.flies,spiders,an’.crickets.” She listed them off as she counted on her fingers. She had read the entire book several times on the way home while Jaws was tucked safely in her lap. “But.he don’t.need ta.eat.but once.a.month.” Bleez climbed onto the counter to put the plant in the window, so it’d get more light. She then turned the tap-purifier on on the sink faucet. “’e.needs clean.water.too!” She filled a glass and poured enough water into the little dish to keep the topsoil moist. “Dere! All.’appy!” She sat triumphant, smiling at her little plant.

Moira smiled, it seemed Bleez was already learning how to properly care for the plant, even though she’d only had it for a short time. She was happy Bleez was excited to have Jaws.

It would be on a Saturday that you open your mail box (if you have one) and notice there is a rather thick envelope stuffed in there. There is no postage stamp and a very vague return address. But you recognize the font and the company's name. 'Seven of Seven Inc' scrawled in majestic font across the upper left hand corner. As you open it, you may strangely find yourself drawn to the letter, there is a mass of notes inside. They read as follows:

Letter
Congratulations! You have managed to succeed in raising your child. (IE: Not killing him or her or getting killed yourself. Haha we kid of course.) We would like an update from you on the following:

Guardians Name:
Child's Name:
Sin:
Virtue:
Gender:
Current Attitude:
Likes:
Dislikes:
Any abnormal growths: (if any, example: Feathers molting, horns growing larger, scars )
Current hair style:
Current clothing preferences:
Dominant celestial trait: (The sin or virtue)

Please summarize in your own words how difficult or easy it was taking care of your child. Did you manage to care for them in a kindly fashion? Or were you forced to discipline them?
As well do not be alarmed if you suddenly find your child achieving a massive growth spurt in the next little while. We are finding that the children from our facility have strange growing patterns and are rather unpredictable. Although please let us know if anything unexpected occurs.

Sincerely the technicians from Seven of Seven Inc.

Ps. Please just leave your letter back in your mail box one you have completed it our courier will pick it up.

Thank you.

You would notice the letter seems overly friendly...strange since the scientist were so ...cold before.

(Just take the from Guardians name to Dominant Celestial trait and pm it to the mule, the summarization doesn't have to be long just have fun with it.)
