The breeze danced through the trees like a soft whisper of sand, ruffling the branches and leaves. It was a calming symphony that filled the night, occasionally the small trilling of a bug joining. Crocus enjoyed these moments, the stillness of the forest broken up by the breath of the land. He liked to imagine this was Aisha softly calling out to her children, soothing those that didn't linger at her roots. Sometimes, he would whisper back, little secrets of his day or his hopes and fears. It was a special moment he told of no one, as he didn't want anyone to discover his vulnerability.
Yet, here he was, another day high atop the trees a mile away from his home. It was a spot between his home and his training grounds, and sometime he would go here to rest or even spend the night depending on his mood. Especially when he was so worn out he couldn't manage the full trip home. As much as he appreciated all Sena and Ika had done for him, he still hated their incessant desire to push until there was no more.
Yet it worked. He was stronger, he had muscle and he was faster. Sure, he got his a** handed to him more times than not from Ika, but there was some respect there, because she never held back. And he liked to hope he gave it back just as much. He assumed Sena wouldn't keep him around if he were dead weight.
Yet there was something holding him back. He saw it in Sena's eyes, the disappointment that he still hadn't chosen the path he would follow. It was the last step for her to fully welcome him into the sisterhood, yet he couldn't decide. Amazon. Or Sacred Heart.
He knew what both of them would have liked to see. If he had magic...well that would allow them to fight with blades and magic. But until he decided, they were restricted to fight without . Even so, Sena made sure he was around to witness such training she conduced with all of her pupils, and even spent time discussing them to him alone. She wanted him to choose, but wanted to make sure his choice was his, and no one elses.
And so here he was, at the end of a branch looking out in the treeline. Soul searching.
A breeze pulled at his body and he closed his eyes, leaning his head back and letting it run across his skin. Like a caress, he imagined Aisha was attempting to sooth him.
"I feel like I'm so close to choosing, but I don't want to be wrong." He whispered into the night air.
"I don't want to limit myself by picking something that will hinder me...and this decision is so...final."
There was no response but another whisper of a breeze, and Crocus knew he wouldn't get his answer from the tree. He was no mystic, he could imagine all he wanted but Aisha was never going to speak to him. That's not how it worked, and he knew enough of that from back when he was a youngling. The great mother had her vassals, and even when his mother decided to beg for his blooming, it was through the voice of the mystic that they got the answer.
So why did he even bother coming out here and speaking to her? Was it because he believed he'd get a response? No, it was because he had no one else to speak to, and it felt like Aisha was what made sense. Even just letting his words drift across the breeze was enough to help him feel reassured with his questions.
Yet, the answer wasn't there, and he knew that it would be his choice and no one else's. That's what Sena said. That's what his mother had said. And as the breeze died down and the trees stilled, he knew that was what Aisha had said (or so he would claim if anyone asked).
It was then he remembered the first time he met Ika, when she was relaxed and leaning back. He still struggled to be as lax as her, but she was always lazed about as if the world was hers to live on. And in that moment, when she looked over at him and stated why she was an Aishan warrior, her fingers snapped and there was a flame.
Thinking of the flame once more caused his soul to ignite. The power surged for a long moment before feeling so empty that he was hollow. He wanted power. He wanted strength. He wanted to be the best warrior he could and hopefully the best there could be.
And that flame...that was what called to him. He knew it then and there that magic, the powers of a Sacred Heart, was the path he desired. It wasn't the Amazon like his mother, though he admired their speed and power. It wasn't a guardian so he could follow the steps of his other mother, though he'd probably end up with a few creatures on the side. No. It was pure, raw magic. Infused and evoked. He had his decision, his mind was set.
As he returned home, he knew he'd have to let his mother know before going to Sena. This would change everything, and he was ready to step into this phase of his journey.

[ Crocus has made his decision, and now reflects on what it means to be part of the sisterhood ]
It was a small ceremony. Nothing special really, because it wasn't special. Another sister was joining the sisterhood and pledging herself to service to Aisha. Though it wasn't a sister, it was Crocus.
He was able to travel across the sea to the isles, where he viewed the roots of Aisha for the first time (in his memory). He didn't get close, but was rushed to pledge in front of one of the younger mystics. A few had eyes on him, but once he was done they embraced him and celebrated like any other sister. His Earthling half was no more, he was considered an Aishan now, as long as he served true to the pledge he made.
Traveling home had him elated, and when he arrived to the shores his mothers were there with tears in their eyes. His Alkidike mother knew exactly what this meant, but he wasn't sure his Yaeli mother did. Either way, both were so proud they embraced him, and dragged him home for a grand meal. He still wanted to see Sena, but she was training and he was sure he'd get her congratulations tomorrow in a whole new training routine.
For now, he enjoyed the time with his mothers.
Later that night, he was back on his tree, a full belly and a smile across his cheeks. His dark eyes looked out in the distance where a storm was brewing, the clouds high up into the sky. Most likely it would miss them, but he would need to head home sooner or later. For now, he was content with the warm breeze pushing away from the isles, as if congratulating him for a job well done.
"I know that this is for me...but I want to make you proud. For blooming me and all that..." He whispered his little secrets, "I...know the honor I've been given. Being a hybrid. I wont take this for granted, mother."
The thunder began to sound so Crocus left the tree, heading home and helping his mother get the animals secure. The winds were pushing the trees but it wasn't anything big, so they were able to get things done quickly and prepare for a long night of rain. It was a normal ending to an abnormal day, but Crocus was grateful. It meant nothing major had changed. Just a shift in his focus, but his path was still set.
He was still going to train, if some different exercises, and he was still going to grow strong. He would still return home to greet his mothers, help with hunting and keeping the animals secure. He would still have his secret moments with Aisha up above the trees while the moon rose high, seeking her guidance in his own unique way. It would just be a bit different. He would fight for her, his mother and his purpose. He would fight for others like him who deserved to be strong and the chance to join. He would fight for himself too, but that was a given. After all, he was still him.
