Back Alley Potions

Solo word minimum is 750, RP post minimum is 7
Magical potions are a bit of a risk in Tendaji, believe it or not. It might be because most are used to working with natural items, or that many potions don't always have their intended effects. Some of the more dubious ones have been rumored to cause scales to grow, or blindness. So if you pass by someone in a back alley saying they have a potion to help you grow two feet taller, it's often better to look the other way.
Or is it?
What would you find if you looked over at what they had to sell? Is it really all that strange? Or maybe you'll find a fun hidden gem worth taking home.

[ Crocus 1 ]
Crocus was taking a long overdue supply break at a local Aishan village. It was smaller than most, but considering he was so far out with his hunt, it was difficult to get to any of the major ones. Either way, what he needed could easily be found anywhere, so he wasn't too concerned. It was really just making sure he was able to get the business, and considering this settlement appeared to have a mix of Aishans, Earthlings, and their hybrids, he wasn't too concerned after all.
That being said, he made an effort to ignore any stares, as not many were used to such sights of a Yaeli hybrid walking through the jungle. Sighing, he quickly pushed his way through toward the meager market, ready to get this over with and get back to his camp and his training.

Mayra whistled a tune as she walked through the village. She had just finished up her morning training routine and the sweat was still shining on her body as she rounded the corner to the market. She wanted to buy one of the new protein drinks she had seen some of the other alkidike talking about the other day and bet it would work fine on her sore muscles. Something about making it with dried maglardilla shells but whatever, if it worked it worked.
She rubbed her shoulder and took a quick peek at the stalls, trying to pinpoint which one she needed to be at.

As he approached the market, Crocus couldn't help but notice the calls of the vendors. They shouted out for all the standard items - both meats and weapons or tools. Many he knew by name, or at least apperance, but occasionally a few would wander into town to try to make a name for themselves, or sell their exotic wares to the unsuspecting patron.
Crocus always made an effort to avoid those vendors, especially the ones who claimed to have a magical solution never before seen. He had heard enough complaining from the victims to know it was nothing more than a pretty name for the same old trinket.
Yet, he found himself catching sight of a new vendor who had foods from across Tendaji. The spices were always a safe bet, and he wandered closer to see what was available.

Mayra closed the gap between herself and the vendor she thought she was probably looking for. There was already someone else there. A large man, he was very tan and dark. It was odd seeing someone of his stature in the village, she had to assume he was part alkidike, same as her. "Yo." She called out to the couple of people at the stall. She didn't really pay much mind to keeping quiet. "I hear you have a powder for an after-training drink?" She asked out.

Crocus paused at the cry of someone behind him, his ear twitching at her question as he turned to look at her speculatively. A hybrid, much like himself, but clearly of the shifter variety. He was used to seeing them, enough that her silver hair and soft blue eyes were nothing out of sorts for him. Though he did wonder if she shifted at night, not many Aishan hybrids had that capability from what he could tell. The poor ones with white skin always burned up thanks to that.
Casually, as casually as his bulk would allow, he moved closer to hear the response. A drink to help with training would put an edge on things. He gave a nod toward Mayra if/when she notices him.

The Aishan stall owner, seeing herself approached by not one, but two hybrids, grinned a sharp toothy smile. It was hard to tell what was behind her eyes, but she put her sales face on and scooped up some unknown liquid vial into her hands.
"Oh, I may have what you are looking for, but two proud Sisters such as yourselves might be interested in more rare of a find than that." She started, swirling the pitcher sized bottle between her hands. "This, this is special. Restores your muscles, and boosts your strength. Crafted by those closest to the mystics themselves." She whispered.
Mayra cocked an eyebrow at the woman, not sure what she was expecting. The other man at the stall was also hybrid, though she didn't quite know with what. Leaf? Fire? She nodded her head back to him and crossed her arms. "Stronger?" She echoed. It sounded too good to be true.

Crocus' sharp eyes narrowed at the grin, mostly because of the threat it tickled up his spine. But he pushed it down, used to such actions and relaxed his shoulders at her sales face that smoothed over. This was not a threat, but a vendor. Maybe he was still a bit spooked from his recent adventure.
His brow arched at the sickly sweet tone as he watched the bottle move in an almost hypnotizing pattern.
"I didn't know sisters crafted such brews..." He grumbled, glancing toward Mayra as she asked her own question.

Mayra watched the vendor as she prepped two small thimbles with some of the potion. “Try it if you don’t believe me.” She offered.
Mayra wasn’t one to turn down something free, and if it made her stronger, the better. “Down the hole, right?” She asked the male hybrid before she downed her shot.

Not one to back down, Crocus reached forward and took the thimble, taking it and quickly downing it as Mayra did as well. He wasn't one to back down, and as he swallowed it he kept his expression calm.
"When will we know it works?" He asked critically.

Mayra smacked her lips, trying to search her body for any change. Without much feeling she shrugged her shoulders and waited on the vendor’s answers.
“The amount you had, you should feel something in a matter of minutes. It works fast.” She leaned in closer, seeming to be waiting on the results.
Mayra stretched her shoulders, popped her back, bounced on her feet lightly, trying to see if she felt something, anything at all before she was bored and turned to the hybrid beside her. “Alright, only one way to know for sure. We should contest.” She held her arm out for him to grab. If the potion increased their strength, an arm wrestle would do the trick.

Crocus found himself impatent, and right before he was about to snap at the man for the mistake, the woman next to him offered a challenge of strength. His brows raised, before a smirk crossed his face as he realized what she was issuing.
Cracking his knuckles and rolling his shoulder, he nodded once as his smirk grew snake like.
"Not sure if this is fair, but I'm game." He said with confidence, taking her arm and preparing for the challenge.

Mayra grabbed the hybrid's hand and braced herself against the vendor's table, ready for the challenge. She flexed her muscles and pushed against the man's hand with the all too familiar feeling of the pull and tension of her body pulling strength where she needed it to go. She did feel stronger. How much so, she couldn't say though.
Unfortunately for her, the other aishan seemed to get better results from the potion

It seems his short bulk suited him yet again. Crocus did have to strain, but he kept his face serious enough to show that it wasn't enough for him to be a challenge. Plus he was competitive and proud, which meant as soon as she dropped her hand and was out, he dropped his own and let out a cheer. Grinning and pumping his arms like a dolt, he turned back to Mayra with a nod.
"Well done." He added friendly enough, before turning toward the vendor and narrowed his eyes, "Though I'm not sure how strong that really made me..."
Ultimately, he decided not to purchase such things, as they left a weird aftertaste in his mouth and he didn't want to feel weaker when they wore off. Shrugging toward Mayra, he wondered if she would decide differently.

Mayra scoffed when her hand was sent backwards into the table. "Well, I think it's fair to say this potion doesn't work." She rubbed at her nose with her thumb. "What a rip off."
With a shrug of her shoulders she threw her hands behind her head and gave the other hybrid a side eye. "Maybe I'll see you around sometime. We can have a real test of strength, not with some botched fix-all."
She threw the hybrid a cocky wink before walking away.
