▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Class Choice Solo - Prentice - WC 2450 ( 8pts )
(( self note: this is after the rps with Siel. ))
“Ouch..” Nykinae dropped the arrow in her hand to the ground and released the taunt string of the bow with a sharp twang as she brought her hand to her mouth.
She’d thought the idea of being an archer was a romantic one. They always looked so regal to her. The way they held their bows and fired arrows at targets. But she kept hurting her fingers and snagging her nails on the string. By now she’d already broken three on one hand and at least one on the other. It didn’t matter how she held the bow it just didn’t work.
“Having trouble Kina?” One of the boys on the practice yard came over to check on her. Of course he looked amused by the fact that she was having issues.
Instantly she turned a glare on him. “No.” She answered sharply. Something about the fact that he was amused with her struggled irritated her. It reminded her too much of a certain hybrid boy. And anything to do with Siel absolutely annoyed her beyond belief. Even more when one considered the little brat had left without saying goodbye, which she found to be rude. “Tch..” She turned back to the bow in her hand and stared at it hard for a second.
“Let me see your hand..” The boy, known as Kaiden, said as he reached out to take her hand. Even when she tried to pull it away from him he kept hold of it and brought it close for him to inspect. He made a thoughtful sound as he took in the broken nails and sore spots.
Kina turned to fully face him now, opening her mouth to say something, but she stopped when she noticed him looking thoughtful. Did he see something wrong with her hand? Was she holding the bow string wrong? “What?” She finally asked.
“Kina.. I don’t think the bow is the best weapon for you.” Kaiden finally said as he looked up from her hand. “You are going to keep ruining your nails and your fingers will get calloused.” He let go of her hand as he considered for a second and looked around the practice yard. There were a few others using it and they all seemed to have an array of weapons with them. So he looked over each one and gave it some thought. He couldn’t see Nykinae with a sword, it just wasn’t her style.
Hearing this gave her some pause. She didn’t want to keep breaking nails. One, it hurt every time. Two, she liked having her nice long nails, all the girls envied them. Three, she enjoyed staining them different colors. She stared at her poor broken nails as Kaiden looked around.
“Ah!” Kaiden made the sound then walked away from Nykinae to collect the weapon he thought might be easier for her to use. Or at least better for her hands. It took him all of two minutes but he was back with a spear in his hands and holding it out for her to take. “Here. Try this.” His other hand was out to receive the bow since she wouldn’t be needing it.
Kina looked skeptical about the weapon he’d brought over to her. Still she handed over the bow since she was quite upset with the fact that it was the cause for her now horrible looking nails, then took the spear that was offered to her. As she held it in her hand she eyed it a bit. Her thoughts went to the hold and weight of it and she found that both were surprisingly good for her.
“So what do you think?” Kaiden asked as he leaned on the bow a bit, bending the wood just a bit with the natural curve created by the pull of the string. “Is the feel better? When you use that it shouldn’t hurt and your nails shouldn’t get in the way either.”
Her head nodded a little as she took a few steps back from the boy so that she wouldn’t hit him when she gave a test swing or two. Kina gripped the spear in one hand and swung it to the side with ease. Since it was a practice one it was made for her height. She’d need to get a bigger one as she got older to make up for the difference but it was still a nice fit. “I like it actually.” A smile formed as she switched hands and swung it the other way. The good thing about it was that she could easily switch from one hand to the other, unlike with the bow. She’d had to pick her strongest side and use that to draw the string back, now she didn’t have to do that.
Feeling the weapon out a bit more she twirled it in her hands and turned with it. It dawned on her then that if she could pick up the speed with which she twirled the spear then she could easily stop any projectile weapon that was thrown her way. At least in theory. She may have to put that to the test later on to ensure she had enough focus to do that. A grin broke out on her face at the idea of it.
Kaiden was grinning too. He’d managed to help Kina out and save her hands from further injury. Even though she was a snob to just about everyone he couldn’t help but think she was super cute. Of course her whole family was good looking. Good genes just ran in that family. Each of her siblings had a fan club or a group of other kids in the city that had crushes on them or just admired them in general. And when Kina decided someone was worth her time she was really nice to them, which made a lot of people jealous.
“I really like it.” She finally stated as she stopped spinning the spear around. Kina walked over to Kaiden and threw her arms around him in a quick hug. “Thank you.” She was excited enough to be nice and she even threw in a kiss to the boy’s cheek to show she was grateful for his help. After that she let go and moved away from him so that she could start to practice with her new weapon. She had some lost tie to make up for since she’d wasted so many weeks with the bow and had gotten nowhere.
Kaiden stood there with wide eyes and a gaping jaw. Not only had he helped Kina find a good fit in weapons but she’d just kissed his cheek! His free hand came up to touch the very same cheek as he watched her walk away. “Y-yeah.. No problem.” He stuttered at first and even though he knew she was no longer paying attention he didn’t really care.
-----------
Some weeks after getting a spear in her hand Kina was once more on the practice field, this time with an instructor. Sweat covered her in a thin layer and she was breathing a bit heavily but she didn’t seem to care too much about that. Right now she was holding her spear with both hands off to the right side as she kept the stance she’d been told to.
Hilde, the warrior woman who had agreed to teach her the spear, walked around her with a walking stick in hand. She looked over Kina’s form with a critical eye and paused to adjust her student. Using the walking stick she gently tapped the girl on the calf. “Move this up just a bit, you’re too wide and I can easily push you over.” She said softly.
Kina looked down but did as she was told, shifting her weight so that she could bring her leg forward a little bit. “Like this?” She asked just to be sure she hadn’t gone too far forward. Looking up she found the face of her instructor and looked for any sign that she’d not understood.
The woman tilted her head to look at her student again then nodded. “Yes. That is better.” She walked around again, coming back to the front of the girl she was training. Using the walking stick she put it in front of her and leaned on it with both arms crossed over the top of it. “Now, bend your knees until it feels like you are sitting in a chair. I want you to hold that pose until you can’t.” It was a good way to build up the girl’s muscles and stamina without making her too bulky to do the maneuvers that she wanted to accomplish.
“Right.” Nykinae did as she was told and bent her knees until she was low enough to sit in a chair but it was a bit awkward with her legs spread out for a good base. It made the muscles in her thighs burn some. She was familiar with the feeling but it still hurt after a while.
While Kina was practicing there was a small crowd of youth gathered at the edges of the practice yard watching. Most were boys but there were a few girls mixed in as well. All admirers of the girl. Hilde looked over at the crowd and couldn’t help but see that they all had a dreamy look to them. She shook her head and rolled her eyes. At least they all managed to stay out of the way. If they were loud, distracting, or in the way of her student then she might have something to say. As it was she couldn’t prevent them from coming to watch the girl practice. “How long do you think you can hold that pose?” She asked as she brought her gaze back to Kina.
With a small grunt of effort she looked at her teacher and debated. “Uh.. maybe another few minutes. We’ve been at this for a few hours already so my legs are kinda sore.” She’d thought that the spear would only use her arms but she was quickly learning that her legs needed to be strengthened too. If she was going to have a good base upon which to do her moves then she needed to have a strong body overall. “Maybe less.. My legs are starting to shake.” She could feel the strain in her thighs really starting to make her legs shake.
Hilde nodded her head at Kina and simled. “Alright, that’s better than what I thought I’d get out of you after the long practice.” She lifted her weight up off the walking stick and grabbed it with one hand so that it didn’t fall to the ground. “So I think we might be able to start the early morning runs. We can get those in every day and then practice before lunch.” They already had the daily practice going before lunch so adding something to the schedule wasn’t that big of a deal. At least not in her mind. “Also.. You need to tie your hair back. I know you pride yourself on your looks but I’ve told you that it gets in your way when you make quick turns. What will you do when it blocks your view in a fight?” It could cause her to lose a fight which was Hilde’s main concern. It may be a life or death fight.
As she listened to her teacher she could feel the fatigue of her muscles really setting in and eventually she grunted one last time before her legs gave out completely. Kina fell onto her butt and gave a squeak as she winced. “Right.. Morning run..” A groan escaped her at the thought of it. Then there was the bit about her hair. She didn’t want to put her hair up since she liked it so much, but perhaps she could experiment with some style and find something that kept it out of her way but still showed off how long and pretty it was. “Can we not do the morning run tomorrow? I think I need to soak my muscles tonight.” She half pleaded.
Hilde blinked as her student fell over then laughed heartily when she asked if they could skip the morning run for the next day. “Yeah, that’s fine kiddo.” She nodded her head then moved so that she could extend her hand down to help the girl up off the ground. “Come on. I’ll walk you home. I want to let your parents know about the morning runs so they don’t think you’re sneaking out in the wee hours to see some boy.”
Kina took the offered hand and heaved herself back up onto her feet. Once there she reached back to dust herself off. Between the sweat and dirt she really needed a bath. “Gods I feel so disgusting after practice..” She whined. When her teacher laughed again she looked at the woman with a serious look. “Its not funny. This is gross… how do you deal with this?” She motioned to herself in general, the sweat, the dirt, the exhaustion. Kina hated it but it was necessary to reach her goal.
“Don’t worry kiddo, you’ll get used to it in a few years.” Of course there would be much complaining before then and it was all for Hilde to listen to. As much as that amused her. “We could always add in a post training swim to help rinse you off.” She gave a devilish grin to her student. The woman knew how much Kina liked the ocean and all that sand that got in her hair when she swam in it.
“Don’t you even..” Kina warned. A deep breath and she started to walk slowly on shaky legs toward the exit of the practice yard. Since it was surrounded by a wooden fence she walked toward the gate. She didn’t have the strength to just hop over it today.
“What? Are you regretting wanting to become a melee hunter?” Hilde chuckled as she asked the question. Despite all the complaining her student did she never expressed a desire to give up or change to something else. The woman actually admired the determination such a girly girl had for it.
“Not even a little bit.” She gave a side glance to her instructor and smiled. “I owe someone a very good beating when I see him again and I plan to deliver.” Kina looked forward then and lifted her chin high, free hand coming up as she tucked it up under her long hair and pushed it back. Her signature hair flip to say she was done with a conversation.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A Snobs Colors SOLO - Prentice - WC 641 ( 2pts )
“You know if you weren’t so stuck up about things people would like you more.” Came the sharp words meant to hurt Kina’s feelings.
Nykinae simply looked at the Matori girl in front of her with her arms crossed over her chest. The hybrid gave a lazy blink of her eyes. She’d heard all of it and more before. She wasn’t nice. She was a snob. She thought too highly of herself. Blah, blah, blah. Kina wasn’t going to change the way she thought. It wasn’t her fault she had standards and the people around her barely met them.
When the girl got closer to her and moved her hand so that she could poke Kina in the shoulder, seeing as her chest wasn’t open to the rude gesture, Kina arched a brow at her. The first poke went unacknowledged, the second caused Kina to look down at the girl’s hand, but the third was swatted away.
“What? Too good to be touched by a lowly peasant?” The sneer came from the girl.
Her friends were behind her nodding along, pushing the girl to go farther and say something more. Nykinae simply stood her ground and watched them all. It seemed more than one had a grievance against her.
“You think you’re so high and mighty. You're not even a pure blood.” The Matori girl spat at her. “I wouldn’t even let my stupid cousin date someone like you.”
“Yeah!” Another girl shouted.
Finally Kina rolled her eyes and moved her hands from being folded over her chest to one being propped up on her hip while the other hung by her side. “Is that what this is about? The fact that your cousin has a crush on me?”
“No. We’re just tired of how you act. You treat people badly and expect them to do what you say all the time.” The girl mimicked Kina and put her hands on her hips.
“I see..” She nodded her head as if in understanding. “Well then, if that is the case then tell everyone else to stop listening to me. I’m not forcing anyone to do as I say. They have the free will to say no or not listen. If they listen to me then its of their own free will.” Her shoulders lifted with that.
In her eyes it was true. People had free will and didn’t need to listen to her. If they did then it was their own problem or fault. Kina wasn’t about to change who she was or how she acted simply because others didn’t like it. Then she might not like herself and that just wouldn’t do. Nykinae liked who she was. And there was at least one person out there that liked her how she was too.
“As to your comment about me not being a pure blood, that’s true. I am proudly a hybrid. I think the mix of my parents created beautiful hybrids. That could be why me and my siblings have so many admirers.” Here Kina smirked at the girl.
In truth she figured the whole issue had something to do with someone having a crush on her and the girls not liking it because they liked that person instead. It was well known that Kina didn’t date anyone that wasn’t worthy and so far she’d not yet found someone she felt she could spend her time with. She also didn’t like when her siblings showed an interest in someone she didn’t think was worth it either. Though she was a bit more understanding if her siblings showed they genuinely liked the person.
“Now if you are done, I have things to do and places to be.” Kina reached up with her limp hand and flung her hair back over her shoulder, dismissing the girl and the conversation, before walking away.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Learning a New Trick SOLO - Prentice - WC 978 ( 3pts )
“Ahaha!” The laughter of the warrior woman named Hilde rang out as she grabbed at her gut and doubled over.
She was busy laughing at her protege for the slip up she’d done. Kina had been trying to master a complicated move as of lately and it wasn’t going so well. It wasn’t a practical move, not one she’d be able to use in a fight all that often if at all but she was determined to be able to move her spear in the specific way. It also resulted in her smacking her own self in the face with the shaft of the spear.
In fact, Kina was currently rubbing her nose and forehead after being hit in the face for the fourth time. With a loud groan she rolled her eyes to the side to look over at her trainer with a slightly miffed look on her face.
“Miss Hilde, stop laughing at me. It wasn’t even that funny.” The hybrid girl complained.
“Oh! Oh no. It was hilarious.” The older woman was now standing upright again but she still had tears in her eyes and was trying to get her laughter under control. She didn’t meant to upset her student but there was only so much she could do to hold in her laugh.
“Ugh! Miss Hilde!” Kina stomped her right foot at the woman as she gripped her spear tightly in one hand. “You’re supposed to be helping me not laughing at my pain.”
“Oh, I can do both.” Hilde reassured her as she finally moved so that she could assist Kina with how she was howling the spear. “Here. Move your hands.” As she spoke she guided Kina’s hands to the correct position on the shaft of the weapon. “If you keep this hold while moving it then you shouldn’t get all tied up at the middle and end up smacking yourself in the face.” She nodded her head at the end.
“If you’re sure then I’ll try again.” Nykinae took a deep breath and nodded to her mentor so that the woman would move away from her and out of the line of fire.
Once Hilde was out of the way then Kina started to move her weapon again. She swung it wide to left and brought it down in a big swoop so that the bladed head would barely skim across the sand at her feet. As it popped back up she brought it in front of her and did the same to the left. To her it had looked like butterfly wings when she’d seen the move performed by someone else. Then when it was in front of her she spun it in a large circle, cycling the blade down then up a few times. When she was sure she had the right hold on it then she tossed the weapon into the air and watched it. She had to get her timing right in order to catch it. The spear tumbled end over end in the air and as it came back down Kina finally caught it without being smacked in the face by it.
A loud squeal left her as she accomplished the move without further injury. “Miss Hilde! I did it!” The teen bounced up and down where she stood holding onto her spear like it was her life line. A huge grin spread over her face as she felt the pride course through her at completing something through hard work.
“That you did. Now get real good at that and I can teach you how to time a kick in between tossing and catching it.” Hilde grinned back at her. There was always pride in her eyes when she taught Nykinae.
The girl had been rough around the edges and she sure came off as self-centered but after spending years training her and getting to know the girl as well as she did she understood where her outlook came from. Kina simply wanted to keep her siblings safe. Mostly from bullying. She’d seen more than a few hybrids get picked on and she knew she and her siblings were hybrids. So she made it seem like everyone else was beneath them as a means to protect them from harsh words. Kina took on the role of the snob so that all the bad words were for her. Her triplet brother was nice and helpful compared to her. Her triplet sister was kind and caring compared to her. Her little sister was so energetic and playful compared to her. Her little brother was fun and approachable compared to her. Hilde had heard the other kids speak when they thought no one else was listening.
She’d also kept her eyes on Kina to see if she was affected by it all. In truth her student didn’t show outward signs of caring about herself. (Something that worried the older woman but she left it be.) Instead she seemed perfectly fine with how things were so long as her siblings were happy.
“Thanks Miss Hilde.” Kina’s words broke through Hilde’s thoughts.
“Of course.” She nodded agained. “I think this calls for celebration. How about we call it a day and you can go home and relax.”
“Really?”
“Sure. I’ll push you twice as hard tomorrow to make up for it.” Hilde chuckled.
“Ugh, I knew there was a catch.” Kina shook her head but smiled all the same. She voiced complaints but her tone was never serious and she always did as she was told. Training hard was never a bother to her if it meant she’d be able to use her chosen weapon the right way. “I’ll see you tomorrow Miss Hilde.” Kina waved goodbye and turned to head off the field.
Hilde watched her go for a little while longer before she turned to head her own way.
(( This just shows how Kina puts forth the effort to learn new skills with her spear. It shows her progress in her chosen class and dedication she has despite it being physical work that makes her sweat. ))
