Class Affinity Solo - Sniper

The sound of arrows flying through the air gave of an otherworldly hum. It was peaceful, unlike many of the other battlegrounds and training centers, because archery was all about focus. Some would work on their aim while moving, but most worked on muscle memory, strength training, and ensuring no distractions would take away from their goal. Astrasol found herself drawn to the activity like an art. Sure, she enjoyed the artistic exercises her mother and father encouraged her to do, but the bow and arrows were a challenge unlike anything she faced before.

It was one part physical, with her needing to strengthen her stances, her poses and her arms. She recalled early on how weak she felt after every session, her arms aching and unable to lift them more than a few inches. Aeluisol was kind enough not to mock her, but she knew her brother found it humorous. Which was what pushed her a bit, especially compared to any of the attempts she made with spellcasting and close combat. While she agreed in defending herself, the strength it took to swing a sword was not what she wanted to build.

The secondary part of archery training was mental, and it was possibly the hardest part. The focus needed to aim stationary, let alone while moving or riding on a mount, was intense. When she had built up her callouses, her muscles, and her stances, Astrasol still found herself exhausted after every single session. This exhaustion, unlike the one she dealt with whenever she had to entertain her 'friends' was satisfying. She would go to bed with a peaceful mind and a sense of accomplishment each and every day.

So, when she grew old enough to be pushed to do something, to establish her hobbies, Astrasol insisted on practicing competitive archery. To dress up in the archery outfit, to go out and build up a sweat, it was a satisfying break from the monotony of the day and a chance to focus not only on the art, but also contemplate her next steps in the socialite world.

Plus, she could trust her peers to not press too much, at least some of them.

"It seems we'll be sharing the range again, Miss Astrasol." The soft voice spoke up, resulting in the hybrid to slowly lower her bow and turn to glance to her side. The geian who was currently setting up his spot had dark skin, similar to her own, and mossy green hair. His eyes, when not cast to the side or focused ahead, were a hazy blue. The marking that she glanced whenever he changed his shirt was slowly creeping up his back, across the muscles of his shoulders in a thick geometric pattern that reminded her of the bug girls that occasionally wandered into town.

Overall, he was remarkably unremarkable, blending into the background of her life. And yet, his presence was something she couldn't quite ignore, and that alone unnerved her. Astrasol didn't care about anyone, outside of her family, so why did this shadow stick so much into her mind.

Turning her head back to focus forward as soon as he finished setting up, Astrasol lifted a gloved hand to wipe away at her brow. Her hair was pulled back tight, and the ponytail brushed against her neck from the force of her spin. She hopped he didn't notice, though when she glanced from the corner of her eye he was looking over with a polite smile.

She sighed slowly, before moving to brush her fingers against the tail of the closest arrow.

"Greetings, Geone." She replied with a nod, her voice cool and she finally turned to look at him directly, "If I didn't know any better, it would seem you always know when I'm here."

The small smile and chuckle in response, made her stomach drop in a way she wasn't quite comfortable with, and she looked away down range.

"A coincidence I'm sure. Though we have crossed paths more...it seems you're keen on developing your skills beyond the casual hobby?"

Of course, he would notice. She wasn't sure, but Astrasol suspected his family either made weapons (typical Geians) or he was in some sort of program. Based on his build, he was strong enough to be a career archer. Or on the way to one.

She smiled coyly, before grabbing her arrow and nocking it.

"I don't plan on making this a job. But I do plan on being the best I can be." She let go and the arrow hit near the middle. But not close enough, and so she went to do it once more.

The silence between the two of them lasted until they both emptied their quiver, and so they began to go and collect them. And so the conversation continued.

"You strike me more as a champion at the war of words than the war of weapons." He replied, and Astrasol rolled her eyes as she continued to collect her arrows, "Though you also seem one who isn't satisfied. I noticed every time you perfect a distance you have to go farther. It's quite impressive."

Grabbing her last arrow, Astrasol stood and spun to look up at the taller Geian, "Impressive? Is it rare for a woman to have drive to succeed? Or do you assume that we simply cannot keep up?" Glancing to where his mark was set up, Astrasol huffed before walking (or stomping) toward her own. Pushing it back to his, she gave him a cold smirk, before walking back up toward the marks, "Allow me to show you exactly how well I can keep up."

She ignored the chuckle as Geone returned, before lifting her bow and preparing to shoot. This would be difficult, but as she prepared and focused, she found herself enjoying it once more. A small smirk tilted up her cheek as she shot, watching her arrow soar and realizing once more how this was possibly, maybe, more than a simple hobby.

Growth Solo

[ Astrasol has gotten into another fight with her mother. In this self-reflection, she realizes that while they fight like cats and dogs, it's possible her mother does have her best intentions at heart, and that there must be a reason why Astrasol wishes so much to please her. ]

The house echoed as the door slammed behind Astrasol, her stomping shaking the earth as she rushed away from her home. She had the misfortune to be home when her mother arrived, possibly after a long day at work, and the criticism was not something she wanted to deal with. So after a fight that was for the ages - and one she wasn't too keen to repeat to anyone who might have asked. Thank the gods that they were far enough away from other houses for anyone to witness such a fight, as it happened more often than Astrasol would like to admit.

Yes, the anger that wrinkled her brow was not something she wanted anyone to see, as it would break up the calm, cool, and collected persona she worked so hard to show others. All her hard work, everything she focused on, was nothing in the eyes of her mother. Because she didn't want to work in a sector, because she didn't want to get her hands dirty, suddenly she was seen as lazy, worthless, and nothing. At least that's what she felt when her mother pestered her to begin looking for a job.

But why did she need to work? Her mother was well enough off that she could live comfortably, build an empire, and eventually make a name for herself. Well, that was her plan until her mother said that she either get a job or get marrried if she wanted to get the money that would be left for her and her brother.

Gods, being a woman trying to make a name in society was such a disadvantage. It was at this point she ached to be a boy like her brother, because it was just so easy to inherit money when you had a deep voice and other unmentionables.

As she finally made it to a hidden fountain shaded by the trees, Astrasol sat down with a huff. One glance at her reflection in the water had her scrubbing at her cheeks. Gods she hated her mother sometimes. Why couldn't she see all that Astrasol had accomplished. She worked hard, both in her hobbies and her interactions with others, and was well known amongst her peers. She was educated, shrewd, and if she wanted to she could accomplish anything. Well most anything.

As her anger faded slowly in the cool shade, Astrasol let her shoulders slump and the exhaustion set in. With the anger gone, she felt shame. Shame she let her anger get in her way, and shame she let her mother see her in such a way. No wonder she didn't believe in Astrasol, if all they did was fight? Often, her brother argued that their mother just pushed them to be their best, but Astrasol wondered if her mother knew what best was right.

Lifting her chin with a watery hiccup, Astrasol let the rage and sorrow fade away. Instead, determination filled her soul, and she nodded with a grim look. She'd make sure her mother saw just how wonderful and powerful she could be. She'd make her mother proud, in her own way, as her own person. It might take some time, but she was willing to fight for it to make mother proud.
