▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Thoughts on the way home
Solo - Blade - WC 600 ( 2pts )

“Yava. Come” She called to her familiar and patted her thigh to make sure the mainland insect was following.

Akeldama was headed home after taking an earthling child back to where they belonged. Normally she’d have insisted on stopping somewhere to get cleaned up. Take a bath. Wash off the taint of the crystal crawlers. But her mind was elsewhere. It was on the little boy she’d helped with the moss. Not really so much him as the fact that his was a child.

Kneeling down to his level and speaking to him as she had wasn’t all bad. Making sure he was safe had felt natural enough. But it was the picking him up and helping him with something so simple as collecting moss off the higher branches that got to her. Holding him up, his little body, had stirred something in her. Akel looked down at her hand, the empty one, and walked along the trail. It had almost been like when she’d first gotten Yava.

Her pure green eyes went to the side where the Maglardilla followed along at her side. He was content to scitter along the ground as he was which was a good thing since she wasn’t feeling generous enough to carry him. Not that Yava weighted a lot.

Continuing to look at her familiar she recalled the times she first had him and the training she put into him. The time to learn what he liked and didn’t like for food and weather. Even down to his bedding. She’d been patient with him then and taught him all kinds of things. He knew how to fight with her now. But the companionship was welcome. He was a treat to keep around, sometimes funny.

Would a child be the same? Was it similar to having a pet? Akel didn’t think so. Her mother certainly didn’t treat her like a pet. While Ciriet often called her a beast for something or another that she did or didn’t do, or something she forgot, she had never been treated as less. Because no matter how she looked at it Yava was a creature to her. Not a person. Akeldama imagined that having a child around would give her so much more than what her familiar could give.

Of course if she wanted to have a child then she needed to seek the blessing of Elzira for that. Hope her mother tree found it in her to gift such a blessing. Then there was the matter of Pruu. Her long time girlfriend. If she was going to seek the blessing of children then she needed to ask Pruu if she was alright with that change. If not she could be putting an end to their relationship as a whole without even realizing it. Considering the two had just moved in together she wasn’t sure if she could spring that onto Pruu just yet or not.

A sigh was heaved as she thought about it more. Her gaze moved up so that she could see where she was going and when she noticed the landmark ahead she moved off the main trail and headed deep into the trees. She needed to get out of the earthling territories before she was seen and trouble was started. Or worse; she was followed. That would be a bad turn of events if it happened. Akel would have to end her day with murder then. Or at the very least keeping a prisoner until the others could figure out what to do with them. But luckily there was no such tail on her.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ An Invitation
Solo - Blade - WC 913 ( 3pts )

Sweat dripped down her brow as well as into her small cleavage and down her back. Her training session had been intense only because she’d pushed herself so hard. Akeldama was feeling the stress of being a mother a little more now that she’d discovered Alizeh had purposefully gone off to find the earthlings. While the Elarian didn’t mind the little ones so much since they were too weak to do anything on their own she didn’t really want her little one to run off in search of them. What if something happened? What if she got lost? Not too likely since both she and Pruu had taught the girls how to navigate the woods but it still bothered her.

She felt the ache of her muscles as she moved over to the trough of water used to wash off after practice. With her spear in hand she looked at the ground in front of her with each step, not her usual head held high walk of pride but her mind was racing too much to really do that today.

“Akeldama, you pushed yourself rather hard today.” The voice of her mother reached her ears.

That wasn’t exactly who she wanted to talk to at the moment but she kept her snark to herself as she leaned her weapon against the trough and dipped both hands into the water. Cupping them she brought the liquid up and splashed her face to rinse it off. Akel did this another two times before she wiped her face clear and turned her head to look at the woman.

“Yes, and?” Was there something wrong with pushing herself? She needed to be strong and able to fight in case she needed to defend her family or village.

“Normally you only do that when something bothers you.” Her mother had made the observation a long time ago that her daughter went above and beyond when she felt stress. “Is there trouble between you and Pruu?”

The question about her relationship made Akel close her eyes and take a deep breath. “No, mother. Pruu and I are fine.” Unless her wife had some hidden grievance with her then there was no worries there. “Stop trying to instigate a fight.” She opened her eyes then went about cupping more water to rinse off her arms. She poured the water over then ran her hands down to wipe it off.

“Didn’t mean it like that..” She rolled her eyes at her daughter before she stepped a bit closer. “Is there something wrong with my granddaughters?” True worry reached her voice then.

She paused to think about that. There was something involving the one but she wasn’t so sure she wanted to tell her mother about it. Mostly because she could just hear the hate spewing from her mouth already. If she found out that Alizeh had made friends with an earthling then she would likely claim Akel and Pruu were horrible parents or try to ground the lot of them. Or worst case she would try to take Alizeh away. That would go over real well with Pruu. “Nothing is wrong with the girls. I just didn’t realize it was so hard being a mother.” She finally said.

“Ha! They giving you trouble are they? Now you know what I went through with you.” She seemed to relax with the answer and even nodded her head some.

“Yes, I see this. I worry when they are out of my sight and sometimes I’m not sure where they get their attitudes.” Akel gave a half grin. She definitely saw some of Pruu in both girls. Mostly Luleta. She had that confidence. Alizeh was the shy one and she wasn’t sure where she got that from. It was a cute trait though.

“They likely got their bad attitude from Pruu.” Her mother shook her head disapprovingly.

That got Akeldama to lose her smile and give her mother a look. “I didn’t say it was a bad attitude.” Her tone had dropped some. If her mother wanted to speak badly about her wife then it wouldn’t end well.

“Right. Of course not.” She must have sensed she’d crossed a line because she didn’t push any farther. “I was wondering if you and the girls, and Pruu of course, would like to come over for dinner tomorrow.” With Akel grown up and out of the house she often felt lonely. This gave her an excuse to spoil her grandchildren too. “I will make the girls’ favorite desert.”

She thought about that for a moment then gave a slow nod of her head. “I’ll run it by Pruu, make sure there are no plans I’m not aware of. She might like not having to cook for a night.” Akel did the cleaning up after meals but she didn’t really cook unless she had to. It wasn’t her best talent and usually anything she made was bland. The girls preferred when Pruu cooked anyways and she wasn’t about to make them eat something that didn’t taste amazing.

“Right. Of course. Just, let me know, will you?” She asked hopefully.

“I will mother.” Akel grabbed her spear from where she’d leaned it up against the trough then turned to walk off the practice yard. She needed to head home anyways. A full bath was in order and a change of clothes. She was sweaty and could feel the dirt clinging to her. It wasn’t a feeling she enjoyed.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Hunting Party
Solo - Blade - WC 1532 ( 5pts )

She had let Pruu know that it was her turn to go out with the hunting party so that she didn’t leave the girls alone at home. Akeldama always made sure that she and her wife weren’t on the same rotation for the village hunting party. Neither of them liked the idea of leaving their girls with the other’s mother, or their own for that matter. Once she got her stuff together she made her way to the gathering point with her spear in hand. She usually travelled lightly on these trips. A small sack of food in case it went into the night and her spear, that was it. No change of clothes or anything like that. She didn’t see the point. While she hated to be dirty she was aware there were times when it couldn’t be helped.

“Hey Akel, the girls with their mother?” One of her hunting group called out.

“Yeah. Pruu has them. She is hoping I’ll be home for dinner, so lets not take all night yeah?” She smiled at the woman as she moved past her to get to the center of the group.

“Glad you could join us.” Another said, her eyes dropping to the ground for a second as she clearly looked for something. “No Yava today?”

Akeldama laughed and shook her head. “Not today, he’s taken a liking to Alizeh so he stays to play with her.” She was starting to think her companion was just too old to be doing all this hunting all the time. He likely enjoyed the carefree playing that he got with Ali.

“Oh, been replaced have ya?” The woman jested as she moved an elbow out to bump into her playfully.

She rolled her eyes in response to the joke but lightly pushed back at the elbow that jarred her. “Uh huh, have you seen my beautiful daughter? She could replace you too. Better watch it.” Akeldama grinned as she continued on a few more steps to just left of the center of the gathered group.

“Keep bragging about your daughter and mine might scoop her up. Delleni collects beautiful things you know.” A third woman in the group said.

Akel pointed at her with a semi-serious look. “You keep that daughter of yours away from Ali. I can’t promise Lu won’t beat her up.” It was well known among the group that Luleta was protective of her shy sister. Everyone thought it was cute.

The whole group chuckled together before they turned toward their leader as she approached. She wore a very stern expression and seemed like the no nonsense type. She put a hand on the hilt of her sword at her side then leveled her gaze at Akeldama. “That’s enough of that.” From there her gaze went to the rest of the women gathered. “We all know if anyone gets to scoop Akel’s daughter up it will be my Laurel.” A grin finally broke out on her face and she seemed to relax. “Alright ladies, our goal is thirty pounds of meat. I don’t care if its all in one or split up between kills. We need to get enough.”

There was a collective nod as orders were given out and once everything was ready they all set out. Akel was part of the middle guard who was to pay attention to the left side. As they all traveled together it was clear to tell that there were no prey close to the village. Mostly because of the noise. There was too much going on inside for any animal to stay close by. The farther out they got the quieter it got. Some thought it was eerie but Akeldama always thought it was serene. She often took the girls out so they could see the forest and learn how to navigate. It wasn’t until a few hours of walking that they found prey.

Thankfully what they did find was more than enough to meet their quota. Each of the women in the party seemed relieved to know that if they could bag this one then they could go home and spend the night in their beds. It wasn’t that they were weak and couldn’t tolerate the ground or being exposed to the elements, it was that each of them had a significant other waiting at home and most had daughters as well. Being home every night was a gift they had gotten used to and craved.

When they moved to change positions slightly, allowing for their bow user to get into perfect alignment, all the women seemed to hold their breath. The bow string was pulled tight and the arrow was lined up perfectly ready to set loose. Then the sound of a breaking twig spooked the beast. As the hunter released the arrow the beast moved. The arrow whizzed past them and made them run. None of the women had moved, there was another animal out there walking close.

Their target bounded through the trees, streaking past them. Akeldama looked ahead of the beast and saw a clearing in the trees. If they kept going then she’d have a clear shot. So she moved, she ran the short distance to get ahead of the animal then readied her spear. One breath passed before she arched back then slung her weapon forward. The long shaft of the spear sailed through the air, the end leaving the reach of her hand completely. The whole of it seemed to keep perfectly straight as it sailed through the air, sharp tip aimed at empty air. Another breath passed and the animal didn’t change direction. It didn’t see the spear flying out to meet it at the intersection. A third breath and both collided together.

The head of her spear buried itself deeply into the neck of the beast and it fell violently to the ground, feet going into the air and tumbling over its head. When it finally stopped moving her spear end was in the air, a flag to let others know it had been claimed.

“Nice shot Akeldama!” The mother of Delleni said with admiration.

“Indeed. You got it right in the neck and didn’t ruin the meat.” The leader moved forward and placed her hand on Akel’s shoulder to show her approval before she moved forward to go collect the animal.

Akeldama followed after her. After all, she needed to collect her spear since she only had the one. The whole of the hunting party descended upon the prey that had been taken down and found that it was completely dead, no extra work needed to be done. In fact the force behind the spear had made it almost go through the neck to the other side. Akel grabbed hold of the shaft of her weapon then put a foot on the beast’s neck to stabilize it before she pulled it out with a wet sucking sound.

“Thanks to Akeldama we get to go home tonight ladies. Lets get this bad boy strung up and head home.” Their leader motioned for one of them to get long branches while another she motioned for some rope.

Overall it took the group another fifteen minutes to get the beast ready for transport but once it was they lifted it up and began the walk home. It would still be a few hours but none seemed to mind. This time Akeldama was in the back of the group as the rear guard. She was basically security against any other beast who thought they could attack and get a quick meal. Not many felt so brave but it never hurt to be on the look out.

Akel kept her eyes out and looked both left and right while she made sure to listen as well. So far there was nothing that even sparked her interest as far as an ambush went. Every so often she would check behind them to make sure they weren’t being followed by a curious beastie either.

“My daughter has been thinking about taking up the spear, Akeldama, do you think you can teach her?” A member of the hunting party glanced back at her. “With an arm like yours, I would know she’s got a good mentor.”

The thought of her being the person in charge of teaching the next generation was a bit strange. Sure she taught her own daughters but that was a mother’s job. To be in charge of someone else’s children was a bit odd. At least to her.

“There are other spear users in the village. Surely one of them would be a better fit.” She tried to gently put the task in someone elses hands.

“There are, but I’ve not seen any of them make a kill like this.” She patted the beast on the rump as it hung upside down as it was carried. “You damned near got a clean cut through the neck.” The tone of admiration in her voice was obvious.

“I will think about it, but I make no promises.” It was the best she could offer. Becoming a mentor to another child was a decision she wanted to run past Pruu.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ A Letter
Solo - Blade - WC 902 ( 3pts )

Akel really hadn’t been too sure about things when she had suggested that Pruu try to find her sister. Would she be found? Would she be okay? How would she deal with the fall out of a bad answer? Could she even deal with such an outcome? Thankfully it had turned out to work in her favor. Or rather, their favor. Pruu had found her and had even gotten a letter back. A happy one too. It meant that Pyrrha was alive and doing alright, at least on paper.

After that it seemed the two went back and forth with letters often, sometimes including gifts from the girls or for the girls. Which was nice for all parties involved. Akeldama had thought it wonderful that the girls had gotten to hear about their aunt but also from their aunt. It was pure joy to see their little faces light up when the post arrived and they saw a letter from her. This time, before the girls sent out their next package, Akeldama sat down to put her own words to paper. She had some things to share with Pyrrha as well.

As she held the pen in her hand she stared at the blank paper for a second. What did she say? Well, no she knew what she wanted to say she just didn't know how to start it. A deep breath in and she tried to sort out her thoughts. After another moment she finally put her hand to paper and started to write.

Pyrrha,

I am so glad to hear that you are doing well. Pruu has told me that you have been writing back and forth. The girls are so excited to send you things too. So its my turn now.

Sorry that you found out about them through a letter. Surprise? Does it still count as a surprise? Pruu says that our little Alizeh reminds her of you sometimes. Luleta is her fiercest defender. Watching the two of them can instantly put a smile on your face. You should see your sister with them. I fear her dreads will turn grey very soon with how much she worries.

Not too long before she wrote to you for the first time our girls were outside playing. I was by the door with my spear and Pruu was inside cooking. The girls made a fuss about the falling stars in the sky and she came out with a cooking knife. Completely ignored that I was there. It was cute to see her ready to face some unknown threat with a little knife.

I have been thinking about asking your sister if she is ready for more but I worry about her beautiful hair. Do you think she’d mind a change in color? Perhaps I will pop the question after our travel plans.

There are two beads included with this letter. The girls made them for you. They couldn’t agree on a necklace, a bracelet, or earrings, so I figured we’d let you decide for yourself.

I’ll stop rambling now. You don’t have to write me back but I wanted to let you know it’s not just Pruu and the girls who think about you and consider you family.

Akeldama

She finished the letter with her signature and set the pen down to the side with a small click as it hit the desk. As she leaned back she let her eyes scan over it carefully, reading each word she'd written. She wanted to make sure she hadn’t made a mistake. Not that she was a perfectionist but she didn’t want Pyrrha to have any trouble with reading it or to think she didn't know how to spell. Once she had double checked it she waited for the ink to dry then folded it so that she could seal it. The beads that were mentioned in the letter were put in as well. Carefully to make sure they didn't just roll out.

They made her smile as she thought about them and how she'd gotten them. Akel had caught the girls with them and when she’d asked them what they were doing the pair of them lit up with excitement. Each of them had finished each others sentences in a hurry to tell her that they were for their aunt. It had made her laugh and shake her head but she agreed to include them in the next post out. At first she'd thought about just having Pruu put them in with her letter but then Akel got the idea that she should write to Pyrrha as well. It would be nice for her to know that she was thought of by more than just her sister.

Now she moved to put her letter with the others that were to go out. She wanted to make sure that hers wasn’t left behind otherwise it would have been a waste of time and a great disappointment to the girls if their beads didn’t make it. Akel didn’t want to disappoint her daughters in any way. She patted the small stack that was to be given to the post courier and smiled to herself. Pyrrha would be getting quite the haul next time. At least she wouldn’t be bored for a good bit. The thought of Pyrrha being over run with all the mail made her chuckle. It was certainly an entertaining idea.

▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ✧✧✧ Test Run
Solo - Blade - WC 750 ( 2pts )

Since she had a plan in mind that she wanted to see through she needed to visit Elzira before she set out. She didn’t want to venture out into the world of skiddish earthlings without seeing her Mother Tree. She needed Elzira’s blessing and protection for this mission, or maybe wanted was a better word for it. Normally a simple prayer from the house or on her way to a hunt was fine but today she wanted to be more personal. Usually she was just going into the woods to gather herbs or hunt for food or even just to get some training in. This time she was going to set foot into the very settlements of the earthlings. She was going to be among them, in the thick of their civilization. Akel felt a bit nervous if she was being honest. If things went wrong it would be just her. She would have no backup and no one would be coming to her rescue if it got ugly. That wasn’t really a bad thing, it kept the others out of danger too but it left her without the help she might need.

As she approached Elzira she felt a calmness work its way over her slowly the closer she got. A smile and Akeldama looked up at the tree with a warmth that only happened when one saw their mom. She was still beautiful just like when Akel was little and used to come visit Elzira often. And she was thankful that her mother tree was still able to produce blooms. Where would they be if Elzira couldn’t or stopped forever? Alizeh and Luleta wouldn’t be there. Akel couldn’t even imagine life without her daughters now. Or without a younger generation to run around in their village. It might be a bit too quiet then.

“Elzira, I would like your protection for what I am about to do now. It would be very helpful to me and my family.” She started off. “I plan to visit an earthling settlement soon. I need to know how safe it is to travel among them.” If her wife was truly set on seeing her sister again then it would need to be done. The sooner the better in her opinion. She didn’t think Pyrrha would come back to their village. Not after she finally got free. “I need to do this for Pruu. It will help her a lot.” Akeldama would do just about anything for her partner. “I think it will be good for our girls too. They can meet their aunt.” She smiled more softly now. “I don’t want them to grow up not knowing Pyrrha.” It would be a shame and a loss they wouldn’t even know they had.

“If I can make sure the earthlings are no threat to my family then we can go and visit her, wherever she is. It will help everyone grow.” Pruu wouldn’t have the guilt anymore, the girls would have a blast getting to know their slightly odd aunt, and Akel would get to see the smiles on all their faces. “Its just a visit though, I promise we will come back. I do not wish to live away from your reach, Elzira.” And she truly didn’t. Akel was a proud Elarian and she wanted to stay close to her Mother Tree. A small trip out wouldn’t impede on that pride.

“Help me make this happen for Pruu and the girls. Please.” She gave her last plea to Elzira before she nodded her head and turned on her heel to leave. She needed to get going before the sun reached its peak. She would need all the daylight she could to navigate the woods and then she wanted plenty of daylight left while she was among the earthlings. Staying there in the dark wasn’t an option she was willing to work with. Her goal was to get there quicky, take time to assess the threat level, then come home. Hopefully all before Pruu figured it out and started to worry for no reason.

She had her weapon with her and rations to eat in case things went bad but other than that she took nothing else. Akel took Yava with her as well. Since she couldn’t very well tell one of the other sisters where she was going she needed a backup in case she needed to get word home. Yava knew the way home and he was good at carrying messages.
