She put her hands under Alizeh’s arms and lifted her up so that she could sit her daughter on the half wall of the village. Once she was sure her little one was well balanced she moved her hands away. “Do we need to talk about your habit of leaving the boundaries?” Akel decided she had better talk to Ali now before Pruu got mad.

As she was picked up and set down she smiled at her Oma. However when the question about her new habit came up she slouched down a little. “Do we have to Oma?” She kicked her legs a little but was careful not to hit her mother with her little feet.

“Yes, I think we do. If your Mata finds out you keep going out she’s going to ground you to your room.” Possibly even wouldn’t let her out of the house without being watched like a hawk. Which she knew Ali wouldn’t like. It would mean she wouldn’t be allowed to go more than a few feet from the house. Which would affect everyone in the family.

She groaned and leaned her head back so that she would look at the sky. “I didn’t mean to go that far it just happened.” Meeting the other earthling hadn’t been in the plan. She was a nice woman though. “Miss Taijana is nice though. Mata might like her.” She said with a serious look on her face.

She half choked on that one before she laughed. “You.. you think your Mata would like to meet an earthling?” Her eyes went wide at the idea before she shook her head. “Oh no. No. I can see your Mata using her weapons first and meeting a body after.” Definitely not a good idea. For any party involved.

She giggled at the thought. Seeing Pruu go all swords on someone first then stopping to ask their name after would be a sight to see. “I won’t leave the village for a month.” She offered. Maybe if there were rules or a schedule for when she could go out and play in the woods then it wouldn’t be so bad.

She shook her head slowly. “I would rather you not leave the village at all. You can get hurt and if no one knows where you are they can’t help you.” As much as she hated that her little girl was going out she had to remember that she did it at that age too. Not clear to the earthling settlements but she didn’t always stay inside the village boundaries. “I would feel better if you took your sister or at least made sure Yava was with you. He can come back and tell me if there is an emergency.” She put her hands on her hips.

She made a face, pursing her lips up like a duck’s beak. “Mmm.. fine. I’ll ask Lu-Lu if she wants to go out and play.” She had no problems with asking her twin to go with her. It was fun when Luleta was with her. She always got to explore and look at things while her sister stood guard like a true warrior.

She slowly nodded her head. “Alright, that’s a start. But don’t go dragging your sister out to the earthling villages.” That would just make things worse. Luleta didn’t have the same curiosity that Ali did. Not to mention if Pruu knew both girls were near the earthlings she was liable to have a full blown melt down. “Your Mata is going to kill me if she even thinks I encouraged you to go near the earthlings.” She blew out a breath of air and reached up to scratch at the back of her neck.

“Why does Mata not like them?” She asked with genuine curiosity. Was there something about the earthlings she didn’t know? Were they really so bad? She put her hands on either side of her so that she could hold onto the low wall she sat on as she leaned forward. “Did they do something?”

“Uh.. not exactly sweetie.” She took a second to think about it. “We.. the first Elaria were raised by the Alkidikes that came from the mainland. They don’t like the earthlings. They are weaker than us and not really worth the attention, but they have the numbers to hurt us if they want.” That was the best way to put it. Akeldama had been raised the same way. She was supposed to be battle ready in case a threat, earthling or dretch, came to her village.

“Mm.. but you mentioned Caolan. And Esai Bunny isn’t bad. He was fun to play with.” She blinked a few times innocently. As she sat back she looked to the side and began to swing her legs again. “And some of the older alkidikes are more mean than Esai.” So how did that make any sense?

She looked at her daughter with concerned look. “Its not that easy.. we were raised that way.” Akel might see some of the good in the younger earthlings but they grew up into adults that could use weapons. They did become a threat. Maybe if they weren’t raised to hate the Elarian’s then it could be different.

“Are.. are Lu-Lu and I being raised that way?” She questioned. Would they grow up to hate the earthlings? Did that mean that she’d eventually grow up to dislike Esai? But he was fun to play with. And he was interesting too. Pretty to look at as well. His eyes glowed! And he had such dark colors, like the night sky.

When she heard her daughter ask that she paused. Were she and Pruu raising the girls to hate the earthlings? Were they helping with the hate? She didn’t think so but that didn’t mean anything. She hadn’t thought she was being raised to be a hateful person either. “No, baby girl.. Your Mata and I aren’t trying to raise you that way. We want you to be who you are and show you that you are loved.”
